WTF are we even talking about? Mike and Kyle do their best to wade through a conversation about soccer (yeah, yeah, you might call it football, but the word “soccer” is actually British), including the history of soccer; FIFA; the ban on women's soccer; homophobic soccer fans; the 2026 World Cup; the World Cups in Qatar, Russia, and Saudi Arabia; homophobic chants at soccer games; and women and non-binary league teams. Alright, welcome back to Žižek & So On. This week continues our NEW SERIES on the systematic aspects of Žižek's thought & we're taking a look at the work of philosopher Berta M. Pérez focusing on her essay “The Courage to Hold onto a Paradox” and her book The Dialectical Gaze: Hegel with Žižek. Why does every apparently coherent order depend on an excluded element? WTF is the transcendental turn? Along the way we return to some of Žižek's key examples: Lévi-Strauss's divided village, Hegel's monarch as the empty point of decision, & the strange loop of subject and substance. The European Graduate School are running a Leading Thinkers Course on Slavoj Žižek and I know a lot of our listeners are attending the course which is exciting and a big thanks to all of you who have been reaching out to us over the course of the series so far! The course runs for ten weeks or so with Frank Ruda, Mladen Dolar, Adrian Johnston, Robert Pfaller, Zahi Zalloua, Dany Nobus, Alenka Zupančič, Berta Perez, and at the end Žižek…on…himself….so we're going to be doing these episodes alongside the course.Up next we stay with Žižek's Hegel, but move from Pérez's account of the Dialectical Gaze to the early Žižek of The Most Sublime Hysteric with Frank Ruda.See you in Paris,Ž&…

We're back with some more Gilmore Girls! Join us in this journey on social media - @gilmorethemerrierpod. ABOUT: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) Longtime friends Lorelai and Sookie have their first fight when Lorelai decides that their shared dream of opening an inn is doomed to failure. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) November 20, 2001 | The WB CAST & CREW OF: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore BRAN'S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 8) SYNOPSIS It's Friday night dinner, and Rory agrees to pose for a painting. Apparently it's a family tradition, despite the fact that Lorelai's portrait was never finished. The next day, Lorelai is chatting with Luke about business. Apparently he's a big business boy. She and Sookie want to make the leap and open their own inn. They're still early in the process, trying to figure out how to buy that property she found with Luke's ex, Rachel. Taylor is shocked when he walks up to Luke's and sees police tape and a chalk outline on the ground. WTF is that about?! Lorelai and Sookie find out that the owner of the property is the sweet old lady who runs the bakery, Fran. They go talk to her, but she says she can't sell it. It's the last thing she has left, and she just can't let it go. Taylor calls the police, and they come down and are like, “We have no idea what this is.” Taylor says, “I've got a dead body outside my store!” The cop replies, “No, everyone is accounted for. It must just be a prank.” That's when Rory, who has just walked up to the growing crowd, sees Jess looking on with a smirk. That darn prankster. The owner of the Independence Inn is in town! Mia lovessss Lorelai and Rory, and they spend the day together. After hanging out with Mia, Lorelai begins to feel bad about potentially leaving both Mia and the inn. Taylor figures out that Jess was behind the prank, so they throw an emergency town meeting to discuss what to do about him. They conveniently forget to tell Luke, but he walks in anyway and gives the whole town a piece of his mind. After the meeting, Lorelai finally tells Mia about her plans, and Mia handles it great. So great, in fact, that Mia reveals she wants to sell the inn. This causes one of Lorelai's classic overthinking freakouts. She tells Sookie they should just press pause on the inn idea. It's never going to work out. Then she really lays into Sookie: you're too disorganized, you're not ready, this is a mess. Sookie storms off. Rory bumps into Jess and tells him that he's making Luke's life harder. The whole town is coming down on Luke because of him, and it's not fair. Jess is like, “Yeah, but did you think it was funny?” They start getting a little flirty when Dean suddenly appears. Jess is like, “Oh... boyfriend? You didn't mention that.” Awkwarddddd. Lorelai and Rory show up for Friday night dinner, and Emily proudly unveils the new painting. But Lorelai is still in a bad mood. She tells her mom what's going on—how Mia came back into town and completely threw her off. And, surprisingly, that throws Emily off too. Lorelai starts to feel really bad about her freakout. She realizes she was just overwhelmed by everything they were trying to do. After talking it over with Luke, she goes to apologize to Sookie. Emily shows up at the inn to meet Mia. She tells her she wishes she had encouraged Lorelai to come home. But also... “Do you happen to have any pictures?” The episode ends at Luke's. Rory watches as Luke realizes that Jess secretly fixed the toaster. The two of them share a smile. Uh oh. Bomani Jones is joined by Spencer Hall for a Time Machine Tuesday edition of The Right Time to revisit some of the most chaotic, controversial, and unforgettable WTF moments in World Cup history. Bo and Spencer break down Diego Maradona's infamous “Hand of God” goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, the geopolitical weight behind Argentina vs. England, and why Maradona followed one of soccer's most blatant acts of cheating with one of the greatest goals the sport has ever seen. Then, they jump to the 2006 World Cup Final and Zinedine Zidane's stunning headbutt against Italy, discussing how trash talk, pressure, and Italian defensive dark arts helped create one of the most shocking exits in sports history. Plus, Bo and Spencer look ahead to the 2026 World Cup in North America, from brutal summer heat to public transportation problems, stadium naming chaos, and why international fans may not be ready for how big — and inconvenient — the United States really is. Ned and Meg discuss the phenomenon of decision fatigue as it relates to dinnertime. It's a cruel trick that at the end of a day of decisions, one still must decide what to have for dinner, and at a time when one is most incapable of making choices. Is this a cultural disease? Is this why we have restaurant delivery from horrible companies who are bottoming out our economy? Also, crab parasites, WTF. Thanks for listening, wash your hands, don't be a dick.
We’re back with a new Insanity Check episode Kriss & Ro are joined by Justin. We ended up switching the main focus of today’s show because of the latest news about the US Government slapping export controls on the latest Anthropic model. A true case of “WTF did you think was going to happen?” Checking in on the resident Spurs fan to see how he’s doing and feeling US Government tells Anthropic it can’t release it’s new model to foreign nationals basically forcing the company to pull access This situation is entirely Anthropic’s fault for going around for months talking about how “dangerous” Mythos was A.I. companies got in bed with the US Government because they thought they could control government officials and get what they want. Instead they’re realizing they just made a deal with loan sharks backed by the mob Not to be left out and showing they’ve learned no lesson, OpenAI is trying to pull the “China is doing it” narrative to explain away why so many people hate data centers Justin hasn’t been following the Cheyenne Bryant debacle and well… Grifters are always going to Grift Guest: Ro & Justin @bookblerd.bsky.social @ljay90.bsky.social Like what you hear? We're back from the break room to discuss the second installment of this shitshow known as the Summer House Reunion. In Part 2, Shelly and I get into: WTF happened in that break room? Amanda and West's off-stage debrief sent chills down our spine. Baby voices. Fishing for reassurance. West coaching her like a PR handler. HUH??Is West Wilson a Companion Robot? The manchild said barely four sentences on stage, nodded along to Dara calling him out??, and then went home to yap with false BDE on his podcast. What IS West's strategy here?Amanda's post-Summer House reality check. Lost brand deals, a swimwear collab that's likely dunzo, and fully tied to a brand she said was never really fully invested in. What does the path "back" even look like — and does staying with West make it impossible? The Kyle and Amanda deep dive. Were they ever truly in love, or were they business partners who stayed together for the show? We unpack four years of no intimacy, the cheating admissions, Kyle's deflection Olympics, and what on earth did they think therapy was for?The "Carl's a Mess" ad moment. Was it harmless fun or did Amanda have a point? Also — did everyone forget about her Buffalo Wild Wings ad throwing shade at Kyle??? Because we didn't.Dara's speech. 10/10. No notes. What we need from Part 3: Andy asking Amanda and West to name what they actually like about each other. The Ben and Amanda Italy commentary that flew by way too fast. Jesse getting more airtime. Just a few things on our wishlist! We are SAT for Part 3 and cannot wait to see who gets asked back... filming starts next month! P.S. We get into convos like this inside POPCORN CLUB, my free monthly movie + TV debrief meetup. Next one is Weds June 10th at 11am EST to go IN on the three part Summer House Reunion. The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix had more penalties than overtakes, and we're not exaggerating. Pit-lane speeding chaos, Gasly's lost podium, Russell's drive-through farce and Antonelli's fifth win in a row, all unpacked. In this episode, Tom and Chris work through a Monaco GP defined by the stewards: the pit-lane speeding saga that caught five drivers by fractions of a km/h, why Tom thinks Hülkenberg's hairpin penalty was completely wrong, Mercedes' communication meltdown over Russell's penalty, and Cadillac throwing away their first-ever points. Plus Hadjar's debut podium, Racing Bulls' best-ever day, the Brembo brake row, and a look ahead to Spain. ❤️ Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/backofthegrid
Gravity - The Digital Agency Power Up : Weekly shows for digital marketing agency owners.
Most leaders I speak with aren't struggling because they lack skill or experience. They're struggling because when things shift - when the market moves, the strategy stalls, or something just stops feeling right - they don't have a reliable process for navigating that moment well. They wing it. Or they freeze. Or they fall back on what worked last time, even when last time no longer applies. This conversation with Danielle Sprouls cuts right to that gap.Danielle spent over 25 years in commercial real estate, has a background in law, and has been involved in over $20 billion in transactions. Today she's the founder of Unscripted Pivots, an executive coaching and advisory firm, and the author of WTF: Women That Flourish. Her second book, The PIVOT Advantage, is out soon - and in this episode, she walks us through the framework that sits at the heart of it.Three areas we explored...✳️ Reframing disruption before you respond to it - Danielle's WTF framework redefines what's happening before you act on it: Where to Focus, Wake That Flame, Wisdom Through Failure. When you change the language, you change the experience.✳️ The PIVOT Advantage framework - a five-step decision sequence (Pause, Identify, Vet, Outreach, Test) that takes a leader from chaos to clarity without skipping the steps that most people rush past.✳️ The identity work behind operational change - Danielle's observation that most pivots get hired as operational problems but are almost always rooted in identity. You have to treat the person moving through the shift, not just the shift itself.Danielle's amplifiers...✳️ Reframe what's happening - when something disrupts your autopilot, stop and ask whether this is happening to you or for you. The opportunity is often buried in the disruption itself.✳️ Run a 24-hour self-audit - when you're being indecisive, take time to assess what not making a change is costing you - energy, relationships, confidence - not just money.✳️ Use the PIVOT sequence - Pause, Identify, Vet, Outreach, Test. Apply it to any decision under pressure. The steps are simple. The discipline to follow them is where the real work lives.Danielle's website and her book WTF: Women That Flourish. When The PIVOT Advantage lands, she'll be back. Keep an eye out for that one.If this episode gave you something useful, the best thing you can do is follow or subscribe so you don't miss what's coming next.Timestamps00:00 - Introduction00:32 - Welcome and show overview01:47 - Danielle Sproles - background and introduction03:04 - Unscripted Pivots, the WTF book, and what Danielle does today04:03 - Pivoting from commercial real estate - what makes it work05:43 - Selective restraint - why saying yes means saying no07:12 - Moments of impact and why most pivots go badly08:49 - Reframing disruption before you act on it09:58 - The PIVOT Advantage framework introduced13:07 - Why pause leads to paralysis without a deadline15:05 - Pause as strategy, not stillness16:55 - Types of pivots - operational, identity, and existential17:55 - Why the identity work is always at the heart of it20:04 - The competitive advantage of a decision process21:01 - Applying PIVOT to solo businesses and personal decisions22:58 - Outreach as perspective, not weakness25:12 - Asking for help is a gift, not a burden28:02 - Asking better questions - the I in PIVOT29:51 - Full walkthrough of the PIVOT framework33:18 - Strategy as a series of decisions, not a fixed plan35:34 - Fear as a signal, not an obstacle38:21 - Overcoming fear of public speaking - Danielle's own story40:25 - Skydiving, saying yes, and being willing to be a beginner42:00 - Danielle's three amplifiers43:39 - Closing and where to find Danielle----Get your copy of my Personal Brand Business BlueprintIt's the FREE roadmap to starting, scaling or just fixing your expert business.www.amplifyme.agency/roadmap----Subscribe to my Youtube!! Jeff and Phil welcome back comedian, writer, podcaster, and sister in rice Jenny Yang to catch up, kick off the summer, and spread the word about her Good Egg Immigrant Grocery Store Standup Comedy Tour, in which she jokes about growing up as a "good" immigrant kid, the importance of food to our cultures, and her own failed fertility journey. Jenny shares about the personal struggles that led her towards her first standup special and a nonprofit comedy tour benefitting immigrants rights organizations -- performed in immigrant grocery stores around the country. We're talking durian, bok choy, air conditioning, bad lighting, and Jenny's jokes. Also: The Good, The Bad, and The WTF of Jenny's fertility journey.
You know that horrible, sinking feeling when you realize… "Wait. I built this. I asked for this. And it's actually not sustainable for me to keep going like this." That's what this episode is about. In today's conversation, I'm walking you through the very real, very human process of realizing your business isn't built for the long haul and what it actually looks like to hold yourself through money dips, ego death, and restructuring everything so it finally feels aligned. We dive into: The grief of letting go of the old version of your business (even if it "worked" on paper) How to navigate disappointment, shame, and "WTF did I even invest all that money for?" spirals Why you don't have to burn it all down to create something sustainable Practical ways to adjust your offers, capacity, and income without abandoning yourself The very unsexy truth about seasons of breaking even, operating at a loss, or getting a job to support your long-term vision Future-tripping in a good way: how I held the vision for my comeback while everything looked like a pullback If you're in a season where your nervous system is tapped, your bank account feels crunchy, and you're questioning everything you've built… this episode will feel like a deep exhale and a loving "you're not crazy, you're evolving." Press play when you're ready to feel less alone, more normalized, and way more powerful in the season you're in even if it's not your sexiest, sparkliest one. DOCKET ALERTS: Kash Patel brings UFC to FBI. WTF??? A federal judge in Maryland issued a TRO blocking the construction of an ICE detention facility without first undertaking the legally required environmental impact assessment. The Trump administration filed an "emergency" petition to the Supreme Court demanding that it be allowed to immediately deport 350,000 Haitians who have enjoyed Temporary Protected Status for decades. It insists an earlier shadow docket ruling allowing it to deport Venezuelan TPS holders is precedential. An amicus brief from 175 former judges points out that shadow docket orders are definitionally non-precedential. The USDA is teaming up with Robert Kennedy and his team of freaks at Health and Human Services to Make America Healthy Again … by shaming poor people for their food choices. SNAP recipients sued in DC to block a "pilot" program to allow states to restrict food benefits to exclude sugary foods. MAIN SHOW: DOGE destroyed the National Endowment for the Humanities in three weeks last spring. We wrote about it on the blog, and discussed the ongoing litigation. Turns out, the DOGE dudes are pissed that the plaintiffs released video of them smirking their way through depositions. On Monday, in the middle of trial, the Trump administration tried to blow up the antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster. This leaves the 40 states which joined the suit as co-plaintiffs in the lurch. Judge Arun Subramanian has ordered the parties to huddle up and see if they can't negotiate a settlement. Will the case go forward next week without the lead plaintiff? And Andrew has an extended exploration of Trump's plan to use a little known federal agency called the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to get oil tankers to cross the Strait of Hormuz. The DFC has released a plan (or at least, concepts of a plan) to reinsure insurance companies that issue war riders. Which might help if insurance companies were refusing to issue policies to ships at sea – except that insurance companies are still underwriting as many marine policies as ever. It's just that it costs more now, because of the war. Plus for subscribers, we'll break down the bar complaint against fan favorite Ed Martin.
