Behind the recently published article: Tariffs – now what for trade shows, this episode's guest, media and events entrepreneur Dr Baris Onay, is a bit of a coup. Referencing the impact of international sanctions on Russia in 2014 from first-hand experience, Baris looks at what to expect, and what might actually happen, as a result of the restless canon of US tariffs.  Hosted by Adam Parry, Baris moves from the “cataclysmic potential” for people selling goods to the States, and the China question, to strategy advice for US and non-US organisers. While these sanctions are clearly not nailed on, Baris highlights the crucial role for one-to-one buyers' programmes, content, and technology, meantime. Dr Baris Onay's take on the tariff's is clued up, on point, and this is an invaluable conversation for the events industry.   To keep up to date with all the news, subscribe for free here. Could they, should they, come back? Asked for his most impactful event ‘moment', Enrico details the gamut of emotion he felt watching U2 at The Sphere in Las Vegas, going on to amplify the value of shared experience, the ritual and spirituality, the sense of belonging, in events. Ultimately, Campbell's/Incentli's goal is to make partnerships as easy as they can be, making him a perfect fit with this episode.   Across some 45 minutes of chat, host/Event Tech Live co-founder, Adam Parry, and Jeff Campbell dig down into the integration equation, with the equally successful and ‘agnostic' Incentli a perfect case in point.   A clued-up collaboration – typical of the Event Tech Talks series - they talk imposter syndrome, tech stacks, connecting LMS to ecommerce platforms, driving attendee stickiness through partnerships and the energy from collaboration.     From the difference between online learning and virtual events, timeframes and a useful burger parallel – the calendar year is bottom of the bun, events ‘the pickle' – right through to what integration actually means, it's all here.

We’re going on a digital trip. No, not some 90’s rave style trip, but one that takes people on a journey to a destination…Yes, we’re talking destination marketing. It’s not something I’m used to talking about, but I met Sabrina a few weeks ago on a session myself, Dahlia el Gazaar and Adam Parry were “hosting” on the new kid on the block, Clubhouse. We were talking all things eventtech and marketing, but Sabrina mentioned something that caught my attention… Stavanger in Norway. I’d only been to Norway a few times and each of those times centered around my trip to Stavanger, so I was keen to speak to someone else who was working on a project of how to promote not only this awesome destination, but seeing how they did things differently. So no, it’s not just another zoom call, not just another walk through, not just another VIP box and definitely not another video on safari around the destination where you’d see better quality content if you tuned in to blue planet. We hear how Heidi Legein, The Mice Guru, pulled together a micro community that Sabrina was part of and how they delivered a digital trip to participants to experience Stavanger and all it has to offer through a digital experience. We cover;- how to find ways to intangibly market a destination- what a truly immersive virtual experience looks like - what goes into creating such an experience- what does it cost – production quality is crucial - being visible in your community Pulling from my recent episode with Dahlia, Sabrina reiterated that collaboration is key in building your microtribe and that when you work together towards a common goal you can create great experiences. Working together, you are stronger. Any event organizer or destination should listen to this episode to hear how this team pulled together to create an awesome digital experience. In this episode, we welcome two podcasters from 60MW, Ben Ford and Chris Jellyman, who each put out a myriad of shows and content. Ben has been a musician since age 15, playing the guitar. He used to play in a band in the London area and still write and plays songs. He got involved with podcasting when he stumbled across Chris on Twitter. Chris's story begins with a show called, The Same Coin. The video game podcast lasted for several years before running it's course. But, as one door shuts, another opens. Chris joined with the podcast 60MW, then called 60 Minutes With. One of the first shows Chris and Ben do is the video game show, The ABCs of Gaming, where they are joined by Adam Parry. Ben is also part of the ClintCast, where he and podcast owner, Dave Robinson, break down the films of Clint Eastwood in release order. After months of discussion, Ben also launched a new show under the 60MW label called, The ABC's of Fording Ahead. It is a show based on how to stay positive in a challenging world. He is teamed up with Chris Jellyman once again and the newly added Alan Sanders from our own podcast. Chris has other shows as well. He co-hosts the Spotlight Reflection shows with Adam Parry. It is a show where they look back and films (or TV shows) they loved as kids and see if they still hold up today. He also does the Entertainment Show with Dave Robinson, where they look at the latest moves, TV shows and documentaries they've been watching. Chris and Alan have also launched a new limited series under the Soundcheck music shows, breaking down their thoughts on Metallica's discography, in release order. Movies/Streaming: Walt is working his way through season 3 of, "Yellowstone," and loves it and cannot recommend it enough. He also think fans of the wit and snark of the Airplane movies should checkout the Netflix series, "Medical Police." Ben says he will always default to some classics when he needs a laugh, such as, "Fawlty Towers," and, "Friday Night Dinner." He just started season one of, "Ozark," and really likes it, though admits it's a heavy show. Chris is starting season 6 of, "Bosch," and season 5 of, "Brooklyn Nine-nine." He also recommends, "Justified," and, "Santa Clarita Diet." Alan just started season one of, "Yellowstone," and finished season six of, "Bosch." Reading: Chris recommends two books he just recently completed: "Bond on Bond," by Roger Moore and, "Can't Hurt Me," by David Goggins. Listening: Walt just started listening to The Marine Corps Movie Minute podcast. Their first season they are breaking down the Clint Eastwood flick, "Heartbreak Ridge." Ben loves a lot of crime-related podcasts and recommends True Crime All the Time. He is also listening to Under Consoletation, a show looking back at a video game television show, one episode at a time. Chris likes to listen to Alan's weekly Saturday radio show, "Waking Up with Alan," and sometimes the following show, "BK on the Air." He is listening to the audio book, "Thanks alot, Mr. Kibblewhite," by Roger Daltry of The Who. Alan recommends everyone should subscribe and listen to 60MW. He also does a big shout-out to the podcast, Radio Labyrinth.

Inside Events Podcast, hosted by Megan Powers; Episode #6 - “The Present & Future of Event Technology" with Adam Parry of Event Industry News and Brian Fanzo. In the first half of this show our host Megan Powers, from Powers of Marketing, discussed news with millennial pager-wearing keynote speaker and tech evangelist Brian Fanzo of iSocialFanz.  Megan and Brian discussed the growth of meetings and events, particularly growth that was discussed and made evident at IBTM World in Barcelona last month. At a time where the potential for virtual events is more possible than ever before, the demand to meet in person is very strong… partially sparked by newer generations. Also discussed in news was a retail show called Shoptalk, which is making the move to have every session speaker and keynote be a WOMAN at their 2020 show. This isn’t a permanent move, but makes a statement that more women need to be at the front of the room, and it shouldn’t be an afterthought, but purposeful. Megan and Brian round-out news discussing two very innovative technologies that can be used to help both event organizers and exhibitors to be more successful. Our guest Adam Parry has strongly put event technology in the UK and beyond at the forefront in the meetings and events industry. Not only is he a co-founder of a media company, but also of the only technology show dedicated to event tech in that part of the world. We discussed the evolution of the Event Tech Awards and Event Tech Live… and how innovation in technology has slowed - what Megan refers to the “elephant in the room.” Adam has very interesting insights as to why event tech is in a slow-down, and what that means for attendees and the industry at-large. Adam and Brian are kindred spirits on the tech front, which makes for an incredibly thought-provoking conversation.
