This week on Brands of the Week, Donny Deutsch and Lou Pellegrino break down the brands, trends, and cultural shifts shaping the marketplace right now — from functional beverages to nostalgia economics. Topics include: the explosive rise of mood drinks and non-alcoholic, THC-free botanical beverages; why 50-year-old song catalogs (Queen, Springsteen, Dylan) are outselling contemporary music as investment assets; the return of communal live TV watching through sports and events like the World Cup and Love Island; Anthony Bourdain's posthumous resurgence in food and travel culture ahead of the new biopic "Tony"; luxury car buyers trading down to mainstream brands as tech gaps close; Arizona State's new bachelor's degree in content creation and influencer marketing; Starbucks' banana bread latte replacing pumpkin spice as its next big seasonal flavor; the decline of the bathtub in modern home renovation; United Airlines' frequent flyer program being worth more than the airline itself; the death of paper checks in the age of Venmo and Zelle; and the rise of JOMO (the joy of missing out) culture. Plus, ICE approval ratings drop among independents, and why America is having fewer twins. You landwalkers call our mostly aquatic planet Earth. Your record-keeping is similarly questionable. This month, I am introducing you to some of the creatures you seem to have misplaced. Today, let's talk about the Aukiris — Aukiris frigidorum. Some centuries ago, a colony of auks looked at the sky, looked at the water, and made a decision the rest of us have been quietly admiring ever since. The wings did not disappear. They simply retired from flying and took up a more practical line of work.
Toxins, plasma exchange, and the detox conversation nobody's having correctly — Dr. Paul Savage joins the show to break down what's actually driving chronic disease in America. Paul went from 300-pound ER doctor to building 70 wellness centers, then walked away from all of it in 2022 when he realized toxin levels in his patients had outpaced everything traditional detox tools could handle. He moved his family to Brazil, co-authored Avoiding Toxins: Reducing Your Toxic Exposure, and built MD Lifespan around one core idea: you can't out-supplement a toxic load this heavy — you have to remove it directly. In this conversation, Freddie and Paul get into: The "bathtub theory" — why turning off the spigot matters more than trying to drain faster How therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) actually works, step by step The four worst toxin categories: plastics, forever chemicals (PFAS), mold, and pesticides/herbicides Why symptoms — not toxin panels alone — are the real yardstick Neurocognitive and immune biomarkers as the clearest signal that TPE is working Peptides, nutrients, and immunoglobulins as part of MD Lifespan's broader protocol Why insurance doesn't cover this yet, and what would need to change Long story long, if you've ever felt like you're doing everything right and still can't shake fatigue, brain fog, or inflammation, this episode gives you a framework for asking a different question. Big love, everybody. 2:13 — What got Paul into medicine 7:17 — Turning point: doctor warns Paul about his health trajectory 8:20 — Paul's transformation and opening a men's health practice 11:46 — Realizing toxic burden was becoming overwhelming 12:40 — Freddie's framework for detox and daily non-negotiables 14:49 — The book Avoiding Toxins, Reducing Your Toxic Exposure 17:00 — "Bathtub theory" of toxic burden 18:21 — How to measure toxic burden 20:41 — Vibrant America testing and PFAS add-on 22:23 — Toxins, inflammation, and chronic disease 24:24 — Purposefulness, gratitude, and social connection 25:32 — Introducing plasma exchange 27:45 — MD Lifespan origin story 29:36 — Why traditional detox methods were no longer enough 32:07 — What total plasma exchange looks like 34:28 — Plasma donation vs. total plasma exchange 44:46 — Toxins linked to chronic disease burden 47:55 — The "junk car park" receptor analogy 50:00 — GLP-1, rapid weight loss, and toxin mobilization 51:26 — Measuring success and biomarkers 53:11 — Neurocognitive improvements after treatment 54:52 — Five tenets of health and detoxification 58:14 — Mission to reduce costs and reach insurance coverage 63:07 — Closing message: learn to avoid toxins, get tested Connect with MD Lifespan: https://mdlifespan.com/ Download the Avoiding Toxins Guide for Free: https://mdlifespan.com/plasma-exchange-guides/avoiding-toxins-guidebook/ Upgrade Your Wellness: LightPathLED: https://lightpathled.pxf.io/c/3438432/2059835/25794 Code: beautifullybroken Explore the new FDA Cleared Aurawell PEMF: Book A Call Silver Biotics Wound Healing Gel: https://bit.ly/3JnxyDD 30% off with Code: BEAUTIFULLYBROKEN MaxGen Labs: https://maxgenlabs.com/BEAUTIFULLYBROKEN CONNECT WITH FREDDIEWork with Me: https://www.beautifullybroken.world/biological-blueprintWebsite and Store: (http://www.beautifullybroken.world) Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/freddie.kimmelYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@beautifullybrokenworld Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. History professor Rodney Wilson recently discovered that two purported “bathtubs” dug up in Farmington in the 1970s are not bathtubs at all, but rare (and massive) bronze planters from the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. An instructor of history and political science at Mineral Area College, Wilson embarked on his own investigation to trace how these artifacts went from sitting in the German Court of Honor in the fair's Palace of Varied Industries to an out-of-the-way antique store in Park Hills. Wilson also shares what he's learned about Gustav Lind, the man who created them.

In this episode, we dive into the turbulent history of the French Revolution to examine Jacques-Louis David's iconic painting, The Death of Marat. We explore how the artist intentionally manipulated a brutal assassination scene to craft a highly effective piece of political propaganda. By contrasting the ugly reality of Marat's murder with the serene beauty of the final artwork, our discussion unpacks the complex relationship between violence and aesthetic experience. We debate whether sanitizing history through art creates a meaningful symbol or dangerously misleads the public. Join us for a compelling conversation about the hidden motives behind this masterpiece and the enduring power of visual manipulation.

Or perhaps you’ll be more persuaded by another phenomenon, the C-drama, once you’ve heard @tritney’s take on the Chinese romance boom that has finally hit America. (Of course, she brings her starter-pack picks for anyone who wants to see some of the best eye-acting in action.) Then: Sanjana assigns Tyler Sherry Thomas's Private Arrangements, and Tyler becomes a full historical-romance advocate, one devastating "you breathe, and I'll know it's you" line at a time. Get your tickets here. The Bloomsday Festival runs from 11th–16th June, with screenings hosted at the historic James Joyce Centre and the Irish Film Institute (IFI).About Ulysses, New York An Introduction with Director Caveh Zahedi Ulysses, New York is an ambitious 24-part adaptation of James Joyce's Ulysses by Caveh Zahedi, an American autobiographical filmmaker known for his self-reflexive and formally adventurous approach to cinema. His feature films include Autobiographical Filmmaker Seeks Camera-Friendly Companion (2025), The Sheik and I (2012), I Am a Sex Addict (2005), In the Bathtub of the World (2001), I Don't Hate Las Vegas Anymore (1994), and A Little Stiff (1991). He is also the creator of the web series The Show About the Show and the writer/host of the podcast 365 Stories I Want To Tell You Before We Both Die.With Ulysses, New York, Zahedi attempts to do to Joyce's Ulysses what Joyce did to Homer's The Odyssey: transpose a canonical work into a new time, place and form. The events of 16 June 1904 in Dublin are reimagined as taking place on 16 June 2022 in New York City, on the centenary of the novel's publication. Following eight actors performing in a Bloomsday stage production of Ulysses, the film moves between Joyce's chapters onstage and the corresponding hours of the actors' real day. This special presentation features a work-in-progress version of the introductory episode, followed by a discussion with Zahedi on the challenges of adapting Joyce.Bloomsday Film FestivalIreland's most literary film festival was established as a celebration of cinema, literature, and artistic innovation, inspired by the far-reaching influence of Ireland's father of modernism, James Joyce. The festival is presented in partnership with the Bloomsday Festival and the James Joyce Centre, and runs from 11–16 June, with screenings hosted at the historic James Joyce Centre and the Irish Film Institute (IFI). Continuing its annual traditions, the festival marks the birthday of W.B. Yeats on 13 June with a curated programme of poetry and literature-inspired short films. On 14 June, in keeping with Joyce's radical and experimental spirit, the programme showcases a selection of innovative experimental films. The following day, 15 June, celebrates the anniversary of the publication of Dubliners with screenings of Joycean short films and adaptations of Dublin-based stories.Alongside its cinematic programme, the Bloomsday Film Festival presents a diverse range of events, including director Q&As, workshops, musical performances, and poetry readings. At its core, the festival is committed to fostering artistic innovation - championing filmmakers who forge their own paths and create work that pushes the boundaries of the medium, in the same pioneering spirit that defined Joyce's literary legacy.Check out the programme & get tickets at www.bloomsdayfestival.ie.Over the years, the podcast has featured acclaimed guests such as Phyllida Lloyd, Lenny Abrahamson, M. Night Shyamalan, John Boorman, Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrell, Aisha Tyler, Colm Meaney, Paul Reiser, Niamh Algar, David Freyne, Ciarán Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, John Crowley, Niamh Algar, Gene Stupnitsky, and Terence Davies, alongside many of the most influential voices working in film and television today. So make sure to subscribe and listen back! Repairing stucco can be maddening, especially if there’s a leak and you need to color match etc. Back to all things roofing and the best material to use when replacing a 22-year-old torch-down one, or bitumen. Before she was Kate Winslet, Lee Miller was a groundbreaking surrealist photography artist and photojournalist. You probably know the famous photograph of her in Hitler's abandoned bathtub, washing the mud from Dachau off, hours after she had witnessed (and photographed) the liberation of the concentration camp. Join Hannah and Nicola for Season 4 (we're back, baby!) as they discuss how a model from Poughkeepsie became a war correspondent for fashion magazine Vogue and ended up taking some of the most important photos of the Holocaust. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and any First Nations listeners today. Sovereignty was never ceded. This episode contains mentions of sexual abuse and rape, suicide, atrocities committed by the Nazis in WWII, the Holocaust, and surrealist art. Listener discretion is advised. In waters that are "just right" across America, you can find colorful, unfamiliar fish living on the edge. Embark on a weird treasure hunt with Katrina, Guy, and guest Matt Miller from The Nature Conservancy to learn about Central American Convict Cichlids in Idaho to feral fancy guppies in George Washington's Bathtub and Jack Dempsey Cichlids in South Dakota. We explore American's bizarre relationship with certain fish, as well as tips for travel to and fishing hot springs. Unfortunately, this isn't a fairy tale: we also learn how introducing unwanted aquarium pets into hot springs puts our own unique native fish at risk.
This week, the Bad Dads wade deep into "The Bathtub" to review Benh Zeitlin's indie darling Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012). Facing off against apocalyptic floods, giant prehistoric boars (Aurochs), and the harsh realities of off-the-grid poverty, six-year-old Hushpuppy carries this movie on her tiny shoulders. What We CoveredFlood Week: Topical weather discussions, recent storms, and impending doom. The Bathtub: Exploring the feral, off-the-grid community south of the Louisiana levee and the metaphor of the melting ice caps.Parenting 101: Wink's extremely tough-love (and questionable) approach to raising six-year-old Hushpuppy.Cat Food Stew & Aurochs: Cooking with blowtorches and the symbolic approach of giant prehistoric boars. The Verdicts: Magical realism masterpiece or something else? We debate the non-professional cast and the intense cinematography. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. NASA has unveiled the fully assembled Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope — one of the most powerful observatories ever built — with a launch as early as fall 2026. Researchers at Caltech have published striking evidence of an ancient Martian ocean, identifying a planet-wide 'bathtub ring' coastal shelf in the northern hemisphere. The FAA has formally grounded Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket following an official mishap classification after Sunday's failed satellite deployment. NASA's SPHEREx space telescope has delivered its first published science, mapping interstellar ice and organic molecules across the Milky Way in 102 infrared colours. New research warns that even habitable-zone exoplanets may not be truly habitable without sufficient water to maintain their carbon cycles. And a new study reveals that spaceflight doesn't just change astronauts' bodies — it changes their brains in ways that can linger long after they return to Earth.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/astronomy-daily-space-news-updates--5648921/support.Sponsor Details:Ensure your online privacy by using NordVPN.
