Gillyanne & Jeremy answer more questions about classical vocal technique versus musical theatre vocal technique.Which is best, should you teach either or both, what do you teach students at different ages?Great questions submitted from our listeners too:How can I make "So In Love" stop sounding like Puccini?Do you teach a 16 year old classical AND musical theatre or choose one? With a new young MT student do you focus on legit or belting?Gillyanne talks about her PhD research into different genres, and Jeremy has a gentle rant about style, why the notes between F4 and F5 are vital, and vibrato.Mentioned in the podcast: Singing and the Actor - the definitive book on musical theatre vocal training, now in its 23rd year https://amzn.to/3T7dCcQSuccessful Singing Auditions book - An excellent guide to the whole horrible process (The Singer Magazine) https://amzn.to/422XU6PVocal Process Teacher Accreditation interview playlist - see what our Accredited Teachers have to say about the Accreditation Programme https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYDwxiBt-MOXNxCmRALabELj1fJGtVD_PWebinar 4 Finding the YOU in every song. NBC Bandstand - aired August 24, 1956 - Featuring Claude Thornhill's band with So In Love. Bert Parks is host. Bert Parks' Bandstand was a daytime radio show based on the the Big Band sound. Radio audiences kept it on for years, but a TV version, called "NBC Bandstand" which was also simulcast on the NBC Radio network, didn't do as well. The show debuted July 30, 1956 and had its last broadcast on November 23 of that year. It was replaced by a new show called "The Price is Right".

Canadian documentary filmmaker Alan Zweig (Vinyl, I, Curmudgeon, When Jews Were Funny) brings us an album of understated, fluid funk with a subtle-but-potent message: 'There's No Place Like America Today' by Curtis Mayfield. Released in 1975 on Mayfield's own Curtom Records, it's a stunning, sophisticated - and sadly overlooked - chronicle of austere times by a true master of his craft. The appealingly danceable music of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, or OMD, as the trailblazing synth-driven electronic band came to be known, has delighted and charmed listeners for decades. They formed in the late 1970's, greatly inspired by Kraftwerk, and with influences ranging from CAN to Barry White. Their string of breakout hits stretched through the 1980's, like "Electricity," "Tesla Girls," & "So In Love," while their song, "If You Leave," written specifically for the John Hughes film, Pretty In Pink, was also a huge hit. The unusual OMD blend is one of melody and melancholia, created with keyboards, synths, sexy saxophone, and drums, while never straying too far from the dance club and pop radio. The band reformed in 2006, and with the 2017 release of their third album, The Punishment of Luxury, Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys - OMD - performed in-studio. (From the Archives, 2017.)

Shawn Mendes posted a photo on Instagram that is having a lot of people wonder, why? The photo is of him and his girlfriend Camila Cabello and he is kissing her foot. He captioned it saying “I kiss your foot cuz I love you”. We are not sure what Shawn expected the reaction to be to this photo but it definitely got a reaction! Meghan Trainer and her husband Daryl Sabara have welcomed their first child! The two of them have a baby boy that they named Riley. Really missed the opportunity to name their son Junie after Daryl's Spy Kids character. Meghan posted a photo on her Instagram saying “This sweet baby boy's due date was today on Valentine's Day We got to meet him Monday, Feb 8th! We are SO IN LOVE. Thank you @darylsabara for the best Valentine's gift ever! Welcome to the world Riley!” With the release of the Britney Spears documentary in the US, a lot of people have been calling for the cancellation of Justin Timberlake. There were comments he made about Britney Spears in interviews that were viewed as inappropriate Justin Timberlake has since released an apology statement. In the statement he said, “The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It's designed this way. As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn't recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to even benefit from others being pulled down again.” Ariana Grande blessed us with a remix of her song 34 + 35 with two huge stars Doja Cat and Megan The Stallion. They released a music video for the song on Friday that showed them hanging out by indoor pool and ordering room service. Actress Kerri Washington seemed to have a bit of FOMO about the entire thing. She tweeted tagging Ariana, Megan and Doja saying “if there is a 34+35 remix to the remix…I am available! Just wanted to throw that out there.” Articles by John R. We had the pleasure of interviewing Danny Goo and JoJo Centineo Zoom video! DANNY GOO is a rising star amidst a new generation of artists who transcend genre. His charming vocals blend plainspoken emotional vulnerability with intimate minimalist R&B indie pop. There’s something both otherworldly and immediately relatable about the atmosphere the Dallas, Texas native conjures. A sprinkling of jangly shoegazing guitars might drip over breezy lo-fi laptop beats. Choruses soar or beguile at a more enchanting pace. DANNY wears his heart on his sleeve in every song, assembling a sonic diary across songs like “Still Dreaming,” “Falling,” and “6 AM.”When Central Track chose “Purple” as their Song Of The Day, they found DANNY’s music “possesses the earmarks of alternative R&B while embodying a nexus of emo, cloud rap, and dream pop,” making special note of his mix of pop-punk delivery and vintage R&B melodies.DANNY’s debut EP for Atoned Music is a six-song confessional detailing the rise and fall of a romantic relationship. Produced by longtime collaborator JoJo Centineo, Feel For You is a dreamy mishmash of classic pop-rock and neo-soul destined for year-end lists, club sets, and radio alike. “Bad Company,” “Blue,” “Better Off” and the rest of the tracks serve as musical catharsis for DANNY, with universal sentiments that will ring familiar to anyone who has ever felt heartache.Listeners who have discovered Danny via SoundCloud, Emo Nite, festivals and on bills with Emotional Xan, Boyfriendz, and Sleye are the same dedicated listeners drawn to artists like gnash, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and Lil Lotus, who guests on the Feel For You track “So In Love.”DANNY would look at home at Height Ashbury in the sixties, in Seattle in the nineties, or Manchester at the peak of the Stone Roses, and his personal Spotify mixes blend Mac Miller, BROCKHAMPTON, and twenty one pilots. From a very young age, DANNY immersed himself in the sights and sounds of different musical communities, falling in love with music festivals where the diverse and eclectic lineups are united by honesty and authenticity. The energy and hooks of Warped Tour acts like All American Rejects, the passionate delivery of pop-punk revivalists The Story So Far, and the confessional balladry of Frank Ocean all have a place in Danny’s music.Seamlessly blending seemingly disparate genres into a smooth, intimate, and broad reaching sound that’s as vibrant and dynamic as it is unique, DANNY GOO is on a mission to spread peace, love and positivity. It’s a mission as old as time itself, broadcast through a fresh but timeless lens.We want to hear from you! Party Favorz is back with volume 3 of the Ultimate Eurodance Collection, which features the biggest Eurodance tracks of the late 80's through the 90's. It's only in this particular series that a song like "Barbie Girl" by Aqua could be even remotely considered a classic. I've always detested this song, yet here we are. The same could be said for anything Vengaboys because all of their tracks were virtually identical. They utilized the same Ibiza beat that was hot at the time, and maintained few innocuous lyrics, but were catchy as hell. It's this formula that propelled them to the top of the dance charts and many pop charts across the globe. I stuck with "We Like To Party," which went on to be the theme song for Six Flags and "Boom Boom Boom" and left out the annoying "Up and Down." They had several earlier hits but those three are what crossed-over in the North America. Another track that follows the same formula is "Better Off Alone," which actually spoke to me. I was head over heels in love with this guy named Pete at the time. We had a bitter split and when I'd hear that song, it felt like I was a sympathetic character in some John Hughes 80's flick. Some of these songs border on trance with Fragma's "Toca's Miracle" leading the way from the early millennium. N-Trance's massive "Set You Free" was an introduction to Drum & Bass with a bit of Freestyle and Trance thrown in making this song really stand out. Duke's "So In Love" is a massive house music staple with overtones of Eurodance but is nevertheless a personal favorite, thus its inclusion. Rozalla's "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) and Billy Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms" are a natural fit here even if the latter was naturally house. I've also included the early Abigail classic remakes of "Losing My Religion" and "Constant Craving," which were on a small label imprint but had a massive impact by bridging commercial Trance and Eurodance with familiar songs originally sung by other artists (REM and K.D. Lang). Speaking of which, no set would be complete without the epic Bonnie Tyler classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Nicki French who transformed the powerful ballad into a massive floor-filler combining elements of Hi-NRG and Eurodance. Equally, Livin' Joy's "Dreamer" and "Don't Stop Movin'" (the latter featured here) effectively combined house music and Eurodance for crossover appeal from the dancefloor to radio. There's a lot of happy memories to unpack in volume 3 and there shouldn't be anything that you aren't already intimately familiar with. PARTY FAVORZ ANNUAL FUNDRAISER I want to give a MASSIVE shout out to Anthony S., Glenn A., and Raul G. for their much needed donations. Still, that leaves me short $175. Folks, you don't need to donate a massive amount of money to help Party Favorz reach our goal of $500. The recommended amounts when you land on the donation page are just that. There's a box at the end that allows you to enter ANY AMOUNT of your choosing and that you can afford. I realize that not everyone is a walking ATM and definitely appreciate the support I receive from subscriptions but there's just not enough money there for me to cover my annual hosting costs. If all you can afford is $5 — I'll happily accept it. Whatever it takes to help me keep Party Favorz going for at least another year. I promise, you won't be disappointed. I'll be back tomorrow with the 4th and final installment of the Ultimate Eurodance Collection. Until then...ENJOY! Starting off with the quintessential Eurodance hit, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, this compilation will take you back to the time when catchy lyrics and infectious beats were all the rage. Regardless of personal opinions about its merits, there's no denying the impact this track had on the Eurodance scene. Similarly, tracks from Vengaboys, like "We Like To Party" and "Boom Boom Boom," encapsulated the era's sound with their distinct Ibiza beat and memorable hooks, earning their place on both dance and pop charts globally. This collection also includes Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone," a track that perfectly captured the spirit of late 90s heartache against a backdrop of pulsating beats. With its undeniable Eurodance and Techno influences, this track became a comforting anthem for many during times of emotional turmoil. Moving slightly into the realm of Trance, we have the early millennium hit "Toca's Miracle" by Fragma, and N-Trance's genre-bending "Set You Free," blending Drum & Bass, Freestyle, and Trance. Duke's "So In Love," a significant house music staple with Eurodance elements, is also a noteworthy inclusion in this volume. Tracks like Rozalla's "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" and Billie Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms" offer a seamless blend of House and Eurodance, demonstrating the genre's versatility. Abigail's remakes of "Losing My Religion" and "Constant Craving" further illustrate this fusion, combining familiar tunes with a Eurodance and Trance twist for an enticing dancefloor experience. No Eurodance compilation would be complete without Nicki French's dancefloor-filling rendition of Bonnie Tyler's classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart," an exceptional blend of Hi-NRG and Eurodance. Likewise, Livin' Joy's hits "Dreamer" and "Don't Stop Movin'," provide a winning fusion of House and Eurodance. With the third volume of the Ultimate Eurodance Collection, dive into the nostalgic memories of the 90s Eurodance and Techno era, filled with classic tunes that transcended genre boundaries. Stay tuned for the final installment of this journey, and as always... ENJOY! Album : The Ultimate Eurodance Collection vol. 3 Genre : Euro-dance, Hi-NRG, Techno Year : 2020 Total Time : 01:52:30 1. Matthew Phillips is an accomplished musician AND producer who's NOT too good for the Dusty Futon! This homegrown San Diegan has already made a name for himself (HIS name) by performing at KAABOO, Coachella, and a massive European Discovery tour! Spicy Kim has stalked him for MONTHS trying to get him on...and our schedules finally matched up. His music has already been featured in an award winning movie at Sundance...and he hasn't released an album! It's all singles and debuts here on The Dusty Futon, even thought Tim Pyles of 91X got to him first (as usual)... Matthew started young with his concert pianist Grandma recognizing his talent for picking out melodies and getting him into music quickly. His love for women got him into guitar, and his love for music got him writing. Thanks to a myriad of influences from nearly every genre he developed his own unique sound. From there, it continues to pick up steam until BAM! You hit a brick wall the moment you run into SAY YES by Two Kings feat. the Queen. This shit is like the Staple Sisters went to house heaven and sprinkled disco dust on all the believers down below. No strangers to the scene, Two Kings consist of the legendary Jamie Lewis, who frankly needs no introduction and Fabulous Keys another veteran stalwart that you may be more familiar with the folks he's worked with (Chaka Khan, Sheila E., James Brown) than the actual man himself. Throw into this mix Swiss made soul singer TANJA DANKNER and you got yourself a recipe that even Julia Child couldn't have concocted. If this song is any indication of how well they work together, Party Favorz is EAGERLY awaiting their album SAY YES to drop in early January, which will include a solid mixture of chill grooves, deep house, and funky house music. Another favorite veteran around here is the incredible Mark Picchiotti who is introducing us to Chicago's Rufus Proffit. Trust. This leads me to the 70s disco classic SPANK by Ron Louis Smith. Originally performed by Jimmy “Bo” Horne back in the day, Ron actually wrote the song and brings it back to us with his vocals in what can only be described as PURE FUNK. While Jimmy's excellent version had that classic “Sunshine” sound, Ron casts it in the era in which it was originally written. This is definitely a get up off your ass floor stomper! Jay takes this monologue and wraps it around pure house bliss adding another gold star to his burgeoning catalog. The House Sessions wouldn't be true to itself if I didn't include two re-worked 90s house classics. So, I worked in Ruffneck and Yavahn's EVERYBODY BE SOMEBODY and the Nightcrawlers PUSH THE FEELING ON, which have been updated for today's floors. Now, folks, I don't care how you bend it, stretch it or tweak it, cause you ain't NEVER gonna break it. These songs are as good now as when they were originally being served up back in the day. Another goto song at the moment is the super deep and funky GO ALL NIGHT by Gorgan City and the always fabulous Jennifer Hudson. This song IS THE SHIT and one of two Jennifer has out at the moment. Watch out of the fabulous Freemason's mix of this song as well. Clearly getting a big push by Gorgan City's label, I fully expect even bigger things for this song. I wanted to close the set out with Kiesza's latest NO ENEMIES, but the full-length remixes aren't scheduled for release until November 24th so we'll just have to settle for the MASSIVE Jax Jones rework of Duke Dumont's WON'T LOOK BACK. I know, I know violins, please. It's like, okay twist my arm, I'll drop it in (as if I needed any coercion) LOL. That's what I got going on for your weekend.

! Danny Boy Stewart a.k.a Danny Boy, knows pain. In the space of ten years he went from being a promising pubescent vocalist from the west side of Chicago, to a man who'd seen the heights of industry success on the grandest stage available. Signed to Death Row Records in 1994, Danny debuted his soulful vocals on the Murder Was The Case Soundtrack with the R&B charter “Come When I Call.” Danny Boy toured with Norman Connors in 2009 and Norman boasts “He is my ace in the hole at my live shows. He's like a young Peabo Bryson and Donny Hathaway all in one.” Danny Boy appears on the album with a track entitled “You Take My Breath Away”, a song on which Danny shows off his dexterous tenor voice. Most recently Danny Boy was featured on Death Row's 2009 sampler with a track entitled “Do What You Do”. He also appeared on Death Row's Ultimate Collection box set with the tracks “Rock, Roll & Bounce”, “So In Love”, & “Caught Up In The Game”. Everything Danny has done up until now have been preparing him for this very moment…..”It's About Time…”!
