My guest today is Confidence and Mental Performance Coach, Shay Haddow! A few weeks ago, I was a guest on Shay's podcast, The Alpha Girl Confidence Podcast, and now it's her turn to take the hot seat. Shay, like many of us, found her passion for mental training through her own personal struggles as an athlete. Shay talks openly about tearing her ACL at the age of 12, reckoning with that physical and emotional trauma at such a young age, and going on to grapple with her confidence as a player until she reached a boiling point her junior year. Now, Shay is a badass coach who has dedicated herself to helping female athletes strengthen their self-belief to play and live confidently. Her keystone program is a 4 month group coaching program for middle school and high school female athletes. Building her business from the ground up, Shay is open about experiencing burnout as a business owner, and what it took for her to move through it and come out better on the other side. I really admire Shay for being so open about her ups and downs as a business owner. She tells the class about the pillars of her core program, “Beyond the Athlete”. [5:10] Shay shares how the question, “Raise your hand if you feel the pressure to be perfect all the time” creates space for athletes to feel connected. [6:28] After tearing her ACL at the age of 12, everything changed. Shay talks about dealing with trauma, pressure, and anxiety at a young age and her decision to turn it all around with mindset work. [10:34] What effect does taking RESPONSIBILITY have on a struggling athlete? Shay explains how it impacted her life and how she sees it change the lives of the kids she coaches. [16:06] Lindsey invites questions from the class. Betsy asks, “What is the ideal age to start mental training?” Billie asks, “Do you have trouble getting kids to accept responsibility because parents are playing the blame game?” [20:51] Shay peels back the curtain on her business, and gets into some details about how she structures her business. [25:20] Shay experienced severe burnout. With a small shift to her sales process, she moved through burnout and found alignment. [30:45] From “push marketing” to “pull marketing”, Shay explains how everything shifted as soon as her mindset shifted. In her words, “If I put out good content, if I do good work, if I help people, the right people will come into my space”. [34:19] Shay believes in letting her intuition be her guide. My guest today is Confidence and Mental Performance Coach, Shay Haddow! A few weeks ago, I was a guest on Shay's podcast, The Alpha Girl Confidence Podcast, and now it's her turn to take the hot seat.   Shay, like many of us, found her passion for mental training through her own personal struggles as an athlete. Shay talks openly about tearing her ACL at the age of 12, reckoning with that physical and emotional trauma at such a young age, and going on to grapple with her confidence as a player until she reached a boiling point her junior year.    Now, Shay is a badass coach who has dedicated herself to helping female athletes strengthen their self-belief to play and live confidently. Her keystone program is a 4 month group coaching program for middle school and high school female athletes.  Building her business from the ground up, Shay is open about experiencing burnout as a business owner, and what it took for her to move through it and come out better on the other side.   I really admire Shay for being so open about her ups and downs as a business owner. This week on the show, Anthony is sitting down with Casey Jacox,  a devoted father, husband, coach, friend, and business leader who strives to lead by example through authenticity and positivity. Casey has over 20 years of sales and business experience where he left his company as the all-time leading salesperson, and today, he's sharing how adversity shaped his success.    Adversity has helped Casey build a foundation for success in many aspects of his life. From his perspective, it's how you learn and grow. In school, Casey was a quarterback who found himself competing for the starting job. He invested months of every ounce of hard work he had in his body. When it finally paid off and he got the starting position, it led to him winning Most Outstanding Quarterback at a college camp, which resulted in serious recruiting attention and intention. The stars had aligned until his senior year when, in the last game of preseason, he broke his foot. The QB that replaced him found massive success while Casey sat and watched. He was feeling sorry for himself and was dealing with massive shame. That lesson taught him the importance of asking for help to overcome adversity. At that moment, his coach offered him an offensive coordinator role. Clarity, purpose, and meaning flooded in and shaped him in his personal and professional life.    That same lesson led him to being a top sales leader at his company and prepared him for the similar flop and adversity that comes in the professional space. As a sales leader, consider ‘how do I get them to where they want to go?'  In his personal life, it applies to parenting--all because adversity builds motivation and education. From a dad's perspective, Casey sees adversity as a massive learning moment.    The ability to hold 10 years at the top of sales in his company came from the mentality that anything and everything could be taken away at any moment (sound familiar?). You are only as good as your last rep. Casey never wanted to be the person who burnt out. It took an intense amount of consistency, clarity of goals, purpose, and coachability. Have the basic mindset of treating others the way you want to be treated. Enter the office with a servant mindset. Set expectations, focus on listening, and document everything. Check your ego at the door and have patience in the process. Don't let the house fall over while you build it.     Employees work with “what's in it for me” on their minds. As a sales leader, bridging that came is as simple as this: You are what you allow. Humility plus vulnerability equals leadership. Do not be afraid to ask for help, feedback, or advice from the people you manage. No one is good without practice, and practicing on your clients isn't the move. Sometimes you have to believe in the call that your coach calls--sales is the same way. Encourage those you manage to prepare. Create a learning environment where you ‘watch film' to get better.    Adversity can often snap someone back into reality and growth. Early in his career, Casey experienced a situation where he was given direction that resulted in him losing an account he had been working on. In that moment, he was faced with a divergence--he could sit in negative energy, or use it to propel him to his next client and make it his best yet. Failing is authentic and can lead to better things.    Casey's book WIN the RELATIONSHIP, not the DEAL: Six Common Sense Strategies to Succeed in Life & Business breaks down what it takes to truly catapult your commissions. In sales, he was consistently exceeded all goals, and finished #1 in his company Nationally for 9 years prior to taking the roll of President of Client Strategy and Partnerships.  Now, Casey turned his passion to coach and help others into his consulting business (Winning The Relationship, LLC), where he aims to help sales professional simplify the sales process, and win more relationships.  As the host of the Quarterback DadCast, he interviews everyday working dads, stay at home dads, as well as the most successful dads within their industries to build a community of fathers looking to support one another. So, this episode is your chance to learn about me - your host of The QB DadCast.   For those who don't know me that well, I thought this would be a great opportunity to allow Ty control of the microphone and ask me the questions.  As I mentioned in episode 1, Ty is my college teammate and the man responsible for lighting the fire to get the podcast off the ground!Ty asks me questions about my life as a dad but also dives into my relationship with my father.  You get to learn about the challenges of how my wife and I have supported him with his dementia while still working hard to be the best dad I can be.  This is a very vulnerable episode for me and I hope it inspires others to open up and talk about challenges and diseases that we all might face one day.As hard as this journey has been to support my dad, I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I've learned more about myself and also have grown and matured in ways that helped me become a better father and husband, too.  What is very ironic is that this episode is being released on my father's birthday, completely unplanned!   Happy Birthday, Dad! I love you.

After spending 20 years at Kforce where he became the all-time leading sales professional, Casey has launched Winning the Relationship, LLC and is working on publishing a book as well as starting a podcast for fathers, The Quarterback Dad Cast.SHOW NOTESBackground-Casey, Founder of Winning the Relationship, previously spent 20 years with Kforce as their all-time leading sales professional. His upcoming projects include publishing his book, Win the Relationship - Not the Deal, and his new podcast, The Quarterback Dad Cast.Bro Culture-Casey credits many things for steering him away from bro culture, but one of the most important was his role in football where it's easiest to simply enter the game humble. This mindset has bled over into other facets of his life like his sales career.Setting Boundaries-After having his first child, he realized he needed more flexibility in his schedule and asked to work from 7am-4pm, fully shutting down from 5:15-7:15pm to be with family, and then coming back online to finish.-By setting these boundaries he was able to be his best in his personal life, which in turn allowed him to be more focused and dedicated while at work.Single Employer-Sticking with a single employer is almost unheard of, but Casey put in 20 years at Kforce for a multitude of reasons including loving the company culture, benefits, large accounts, leadership, colleagues, and customers.Being a Pusher-It can be difficult to know how to get the best out of your team, but he advises asking questions and really knowing what their goals are so that you can remind them of what they want to accomplish.-It doesn't just end at that, be mindful that everyone has bad days, and be able to forgive as well as show that you trust them.Building Relationships-Being a good leader and building positive relationships is about making everyone feel like they are a part of the team and giving them the opportunity to try something they haven't been given the chance to do before.Diversity and Inclusion-Diversity and inclusion was a big topic focused on at a leadership event Casey attended and after this discussion made him so much more self-aware. He walked away with a better understanding and perspective of what other people have gone through and his own privilege.Income and Marriage-Income as a sales professional isn't steady. Some years are better than others and that can affect a relationship. But Casey's wife has always been frugal and they came to the conclusion early on that they were going to always live below their means.-He advises to never feel like you've arrived, because there is always something to be learned.Therapy and Failure-You don't need a podcast to have deep and meaningful discussions. Find the opportunities to have those conversations with people that are going through similar things.-So many people only talk about their successes, not what they're scared of or where they're vulnerable, but in reality talking about those things with someone is what builds a stronger bond. Make everything competitive. Time everything. Small groups and lots of stations Games Girls get to take 2 free throws at end of practice - If they make 1, they get to run 1 lap. If they make 2 they get to pick someone to run with them (including parents on the sideline.) If they miss both, they have to dribble around with their off hand until drill is over. Then take the girls who make both free throws and put the pressure on them, say 'there is 2 seconds left, you need to make 2 free throws to win the game.' They only get to do this if the girls gave great effort during practice Mental toughness It comes down to believing in the kids you coach, and making sure they understand you believe in them Culture Everyone needs to do their role. Coaches coach. Players play. Parents cheer. Umpires make the calls. When everyone stays in their role, everything works well. Step out of your role, and trouble starts. Captains and leadership Captains lead stretching and conversation Teach them to be organized and communicate well Rewards and recognition Words of the week - keep the focus on the importance of everyone's role - Then give an award at the end of the week on who best embodied that characteristic Connecting with and impacting kids Kevin worked with a young man who was struggling to throw, and 2 years later watching his progress is really exciting. The one that got away Casey played on a team, and they came out flat, and lost. You must be prepared for every game.
