This week we are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. Captain Content reminds us that a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. We dive into some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members along with, Offshoots which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Neurotic Outsiders – “Nasty Ho” from Neurotic Outsiders (1996)Thrasher – “Bad Boys” from Thrasher (1985)Heavy Bones – “4:AM T-M” from Heavy Bones (1991)Ultra Bomb – “Time To Burn” from Time To Burn (2022)Saints Of The Underground - “Tomorrow Never Comes” from Love The Sin, Hate The Sinner (2008)Mad Season – “Lifeless Dead” from Above (1995)Far Corporation – “Stairway To Heaven” from Division One (1985)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Join us in the Electric Fishbowl for the first episode of 2024 with our guest Thom Hazaert, acclaimed musician, author/writer, and music executive. He was co-founder and president of Corporate Punishment Records and currently runs THC: MUSIC, a management firm and label. With David Ellefson, he relaunched legendary metal label Combat Records, as part of EMP Label Group.[1][2][3] Hazaert's work was also influential in the early advent of lifestyle street and viral marketing among rock acts,[4] as an independent consultant for record labels including Flip Records, Interscope Records, Warner Bros. Records, Hollywood Records, Jive Records, and as co-founder of Total Assault Street Teams. Coupled with Thom's big personality and opinions we talk all things rock and metal, then and now including Dave Mustaine's controversial comment about ticket prices. We reflect a bit on FishFest Iv in 2023 and look on to overcoming the stigma of mental health challenges in the music industry. We introduce two new band on the Nashville metal scene - Glasswalker, Weapon of Choice and Dead Runes Iron Song.

The Pipeman interviews David Ellefson. Pipeman loves the song Deaths of Disappear. Trying to get 4 guys from all over to do a video for every song is hard enough. Any time David could be in a room with guys creating is preferred. There's an energy playing in the room together. They were cutting the record for Lucid; David was playing bass. They all flew out to LA to work in the drummer's studio. When making records it's a conversation that last forever. Young musicians should get into the same room and create. Young people always drive the future of music. A lot of composing is digitally done. Rock bands do still exist. Hence why David made an alternative pop rock album. The Lucid is very much a covid record. It was mainly created during that time. This record allowed them to be in the room together to create and record. Pipeman gets the 80s and 90s vibes that isn't around right now. The Raven is the ultimate in doing remote. Most drummers have come from the jazz scene. Then they moved to a more rock. Gar Samulelson had that and how he transitioned to metal genre. Megadeth are very contracted riffs. They spent everyday and a lot of time perfecting the music. Its cool the Fat Opera 3 is on Combat Records. When the opportunity came up to re-launch that label that was where David wanted to do it. Combat Records was the house Megadeth built. Dwellers are a movie. David did a cameo in the movie. His part was in Springfield Illinois. Drew has great humor. To help produce the film was an honor. El álbum incluía tres canciones escritas por el ex guitarrista Robb Flynn ("Chalice Of Blood", "Forbidden Evil" y "As Good As Dead").

Megadeth's David Ellefson, Jeff Scott Soto and Sword's Rick Hughes tell road stories (from March 2021)     PLUS -- For Immediate Release March 23, 2021 Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and Sons of Apollo vocalist Jeff Scott Soto have been collaborating on some new material recently under the moniker ELLEFSON-SOTO. The Ellefson-Soto version of the Riot classic “Swords & Tequila” released via Ellefson’s Combat Records on www.ellefsonmusic.bandcamp.com and across all digital streaming outlets. The song was originally featured on the 1981 Riot LP Fire Down Under (Elektra). The play through video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/gSDqHiQk0QY The track was produced by David Ellefson & Andy Martongelli, mixed by Alessio Garavello in Wembley, England and mastered by Maor Appelbaum in Los Angeles, CA. The video is directed by Elia Turra for Fisheye Studio in Verona, Italy. The ELLEFSON-SOTO recording lineup includes: David Ellefson- Bass Jeff Scott Soto- Lead Vocals Andy Martongelli- Lead & Rhythm Guitars Paolo Caridi- Drums *Featuring Rick Hughes- Lead Vocals (Swords & Tequila) Says Ellefson, “Jeff and I have been friends for so many years that it’s great to finally collaborate on some material together. He has such a distinctive voice and perfect style for some new ideas my guitarist Andy Martongelli (Ellefson) and I have been composing. We are excited about the progress of it all and thought this would be a perfect time to give a little sneak preview. “ Jeff adds, “As COVID-19 became a big negative around the globe, it actually offered many artists a chance to finally collaborate with one another that might have never happened otherwise…as I have known David for many years, I knew from our other efforts outside of our day jobs that we could come up with some badass jams…and here we are, letting you in on our cool little secret!”. As for the choice of cover song Ellefson reminisced, “The first time I ever heard of Riot was on the Castle Donington Monters of Rock album from 1980. For me, they were the USA representatives during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. And, “Swords & Tequila”, along with the entire Fire Down Under album for that matter, show the band delivering it’s rowdy and high energy rock n roll like no other band in the USA was doing at that time. So, it is an honor to offer them much deserved reverence, as well as a reminiscent tribute to the mighty Guy Speranza, who fronted the band like a god during that period. Soto adds, “What can I say? This was a classic metal track from Riot that we all knew growing up, when David brought up that we should cover it I was thrilled. But when we added Rick Hughes from the band Sword onto it, it truly came to life! 40 years after its release, we hope you dig this new version we built for you!” Vocalist Rick Hughes is the founding front man of the iconic Quebec Power Metal group SWORD. The Canadian quartet formed in 1981 and have released a string of metal classics including their eponymous 1984 Aquarias Records debut Metalized which has been esteemed by fans and musicians alike including the likes of Metallica, Megadeth, Motorhead and many more. Hughes explains, “To me, music has always been the best medicine and that is why in this time of not being able to perform with live musicians in front of a live audience, I was more than happy to participate in this camaraderie of seasoned musicians.” Sword’s latest album In Kommand is now available via Combat Records. More new tracks from Ellefson-Soto are in the works with release details to be announced. Riot formed in New York City in 1975 and has produced a long list of classic hard rock albums for Victor Entertainment, Capitol & Elektra Records as well as re-issues by Metal Blade Records. Guy Speranza was a founding member and vocalist for the group and sang on the early albums Rock City (1977), Narita (1979) and Fire Down Under (1981). He was then succeeded by Rhett Forrester in 1982. Speranza passed away in 2003 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 47. Riot has since undergone several member and lineup changes but still remains active under the new name of RIOT V. Help support the show. Al año siguiente lanzaron el álbum recopilatorio Fate - The Best of Death.

Brand new epsoide out now Dead By Wednesday New Single SOS out Now   DEAD BY WEDNESDAY is: Steve Alvarez - Vocals Opus - Drums Mike Modeste - Bass Dave Sharpe - Guitar       Connecticut-based metal band DEAD BY WEDNESDAY has revealed a video for the crushing new track “S.O.S.,” the first single to feature new vocalist Steve Alvarez.   The video, directed by Alex Vazquez/AVArtdigital, is available today, exclusively via Metal Insider at https://www.metalinsider.net/video/video-premiere-dead-by-wednesday-s-o-s. The single is also available now at DEAD BY WEDNESDAY's Bandcamp page at https://deadbywednesday.bandcamp.com/track/s-o-s.    “S.O.S” is a throwback to the angst-ridden roots of early DEAD BY WEDNESDAY releases like Democracy is Dead and The Killing Project while channeling the today's frustration with the state of the world. “We are legitimately pissed,” says drummer Opus. “Frustrations are high for musicians, as well as most people around the world, and we use our music as an outlet. That's why it really sounds angry - because we are! We've also come to realize who we are as a band during this unwanted time off, so we went deep and heavy! It's fast, lean and mean - perfect for the times.”   With the current struggles as not only Americans but as humans of this world, the message of “S.O.S.” encapsulates the general outcry for help from all people. With both money and the media running the world, DEAD BY WEDNESDAY felt a message needed to be sent to the people that this is a turning point in history.   “'S.O.S.' also shows brotherhood among different races,” Opus says. “It has a strong message. I believe this tune will not only attract a whole new audience, but I also feel like this will please some of the old school DEAD BY WEDNESDAY fans as well.”   “S.O.S.” was produced and mastered by Nick Bellmore (Dee Snider, Jasta) at Dexter's Lab Studios, Milford, CT.   Established in 2006, DEAD BY WEDNESDAY quickly caught the attention of Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, who went on to release their debut through his Stillborn Records label. The band has released one EP and four full-length albums, including Darkest of Angels (EMP Label Group), which featured an impressive list of guest vocalists. The quartet's latest release, the self-titled Dead By Wednesday, was released last year via the newly revamped Combat Records, a division of EMP.    Opus and guitarist Dave Sharpe, who also serve as touring members of Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson's solo band, will once again join forces with Ellefson for three “End of Days 2020” festival dates with Saliva, A Killer's Confession, The Crowned and many more.   End of Days 2020 dates: Friday, October 30 – San Antonio, TX @ Sunset Station Saturday, October 31 – Slidell, LA @ Brown's Village Plaza Sunday, November 1 – Seabrook, TX @ Barge 295   DEAD BY WEDNESDAY online: www.deadbywednesday.com www.facebook.com/deadbywednesday www.twitter.com/deadbywednesday www.instagram.com/deadbywednesday www.youtube.com/DBWtv       I really enjoyed SOS  I feel that it has a Five Finger Death Punch , Bad Wolves meets Sepultura Vibe. John Morris AKA Ducats of That Metal Station (Who is also the Co-Owner along with Metal Mike of TMS) was awesome enough to come on the show and tell us of his adventures and misadventures and even crazier experiences in the music industry! John informs us how he got his foot in the door by becoming an intern for Combat Records, which eventually led to him being hired by Senior Vice President of A&R for Roadrunner Records, Monte Conner, to manage the very first US tour for the legendary Sepultura! During this whole time Ducats was a Road Manager for Death, the previously mentioned Sepultura, as well as Faith Or Fear and a host of others. He was also a Tour manager for Ultimate Revenge 2, served as Road crew for a ton of other bands/artist and was a stage hand / manager for legendary L'Amour music venue in Brooklyn, New York! The tales that John told us are brutally honest and unfiltered just like the man himself and totally hilarious! We had so much fun doing this episode that Ducats has agreed to come back because he has a TON more stories to tell! I recently had the opportunity to have an awesome conversation with Coke Finlay from old school UK thrash band Virus about the upcoming Combat Records release of their new album Evilution Apocalypse,  which marks their first full length album in 32 years. Coke was kind enough to indulge me in my questions about the band's history (some of it rocky), his take on the music scene, what he's been doing since the last album, and some recent controversy surrounding some of the band's former members.  We also get a sneak peek at the title track off their new album, so be sure to check this one out and give their Facebook Page a like!
