OR maybe you are looking for a place away from kids and responsibilities where nothing else but the words in front of you are vying for your attention.  If any of these apply, then a Silent Book Club might be for you.  Silent Book Club began in 2012 and is, according to their mission statement, a “global community of readers, with more than 1500 chapters in 54 countries around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather in public at bars, cafes, bookstores, libraries, and online to read together in quiet camaraderie.”     This week we chat with Brittany Brar, the leader of a local chapter of the Silent Book Club in Louisville, Kentucky.  Brittany started the local chapter here in 2019, right before the pandemic with 5 people.  She was new in town and didn't know where to find a booklcub to join.  Now the group has over 2000 members of their FB group and as many as 60 people have shown up to their monthly meetings. Brittany talks to us about how people have developed a new sense of community, when a powerpoint presentation can be regarded as fun, and her go-to  genres   After our chat with Brittany, we will give you our recommendations for big honking books that meet not only your reading but also strength training goals.    Books Mentioned In This Episode: 1- Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe   2- The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman   3- Monsters: A Fan's Dilemma by Claire Dederer   4- Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera   5- The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson   6- Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson   7- That's Not My Name by Megan Lally   8- Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry   9- It by Stephen King   10- Leviathan Wakes by SA Corey (592 pages)    11-The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (704 pages)    12- Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin (944 pages) 13- Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett  (976 pages)    14- Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver (546 pages)    15- When the World Tips Over by Jandy Nelson (528 pages)   16- East of Eden by John Steinbeck (601 pages)   17- A Five Star Read Recommended By Fellow Book Lover Kim Wells @the_salty_islander - A Home for Friendless Women by Kelly E. This recording from March 22, 2024. Abstract Dark Academia (DA), as a genre, is an offshoot of academic fiction that has become prominent over the last decade. After defining DA and exploring its roots, I dive into Intertextuality to ask why modern authors have chosen DA as their genre of choice as they reimagine elements of classic works. The works I chose to analyze are The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (2005), which exists in connection with Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897); Conversion by Katherine Howe (2014), which exists in connection with The Crucible by Arthur Miller (1953); Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth (2020), which exists in connection with The Story of Mary MacLane, alternatively titled I Await the Devil's Coming by Mary MacLane (1902); and The Society for Soulless Girls by Laura Steven (2022), which exists in connection with Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886). Authors give myths breaths of new life century after century, and works that have asked pointed questions of society and their readers often stay around long enough for new, younger readers to ask those same questions of their own changing societal contexts by building on the existing classical works. DA gives a structured power setting that can be treated as a sandbox of sorts for enquiring minds on how new people and places have altered responses to questions that have been asked again and again in literature. About the Presenter Laurel M. Stevens completed her undergraduate in English at Westminster College where she first delved into fantasy studies with Tolkien. Her masters coursework at Signum focused on Imaginative Literature and has allowed her to explore fantasy at greater depths and introduced her to areas of studies such as adaptation and Dark Academia. She reads and reviews heavily in modern fantasy and science fiction, yet remains interested in a wide range of literature. Folge direkt herunterladen

Connie's motivational quote for today is by – Elizabeth Kostova, “It's funny; in this era of email and voice mail and all those things that even I did not grow up with, a plain old paper letter takes on amazing intimacy.  It's funny when I teach my clients about sales and I share how we didn't have computers or calendar systems.  We used the old-fashioned paper and pen for note taking, a paper calendar, and my favorite, a tickler or follow-up system that used notes on index cards that I placed in pendaflex files of January – December and 1-31 Days.   On the flip side, this handwritten framework allowed me to become very personal, very quickly with my prospect and clients, because handwritten notes and follow-up letters helped me stand out because I could personalize every correspondence! So are you thinking, what the heck is she talking about?  Handwritten correspondence in our digital world?    YouTube: https://youtu.be/vSVh5HU-YqA   About Rick Elmore:   Rick is an entrepreneur, sales, and marketing expert, and former college and professional football athlete. She's already re-read the first novel, PLAINSONG, and is now into EVENTIDE. In biblio adventures, we had a great time at Soho Press's dinner celebrating two of their authors: Ramona Emerson (SHUTTER, coming out in August) and Marcie Rendon (SINISTER GRAVES, the third book in the Sue Grafton Award-nominated crime series set in the 1970s in the Red River Valley and featuring 19-year-old Cash Blackbear, an Ojibwe woman (pubbing in October). The event was held at Chef Sherry Pocknett's world-famous Sly Fox Den Too indigenous restaurant in Charlestown, Rhode Island. We had the great privilege of talking with award winning, legendary audiobook narrator SIMON VANCE. Kirsty Manning's lush dual timeline stories, dealing with family secrets and female friendships in international settings, have drawn favorable comparison with blockbuster authors like Penny Vincenzi. Her latest book, The French Gift, is a tale of loyalty and betrayal in World War II Germany and Paris today. It is based on the true story of an iconic French Resistance fighter and won't disappoint. I hope it won't distract too much - it's only in a few places that we get wobbly..... But now, here's Kirsty: Introducing author Kirsty Manning Jenny Wheeler: Hello there, Kirsty and welcome to the show. It's so good to have you with us. Kirsty Manning: Hello. Thanks for having me. Jenny Wheeler: You are talking this morning from the Macedon Ranges in Victoria, a place made famous by the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock. Kirsty Manning: Yes, it was, and of course it was a novel before that. I live right on the northern faces of Mt Macedon, in an old chestnut grove, and you can see Hanging Rock sometimes from my house. I'm surrounded by gumtrees, and if you walk up the hill a bit further from where I am, you can look right across to the valley and Hanging Rock peers up from the valley floor. It is very mystical and magical. Braemar College is just around the corner from my house and my kids went there in their early high school career. (Editor note: Braemar College is believed by some to be the model for the school in the novel. Novelist Joan Lindsay attended the girl's boarding school near Mount Macedon, then named Clyde College,) Jenny Wheeler: It sounds like a wonderful place to be set as a writer. Kirsty Manning: Yes, it is. It's private and quiet and very beautiful. A lovely place to spend your day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzfiGzHDJE0 Female friendships & family secrets Jenny Wheeler: We are talking about your fourth novel, The French Gift, but they have all got a very similar feeling. You have set yourself a tradition of lush dual timeline stories with an international reach, dealing with family secrets and female friendships. This is literature you have been drawn to yourself, isn't it? Kirsty Manning: Yes, it is. When I started to write, people said write what you love and what you are feeling at the time. A book that really captivated me when I was at university was Possession by A. S. Byatt. That was set in multiple timeframes. Later on, Geraldine Brooks' People of the Book, which traces the Haggadah through the ages. I thought about the way those books and that plot unfolded. Elizabeth Kostova is another one, toing and froing between history past to present. I was drawn to those stories. I have always loved historical fiction and when it cam...

This episode of The Live Your Dreams Awake featuring our conversation with Bri Seeley is an embodiment of what our show is about, living your dreams awake and letting the magic happen in your lives. Bri has made a name in the fashion industry, winning awards here and there, been in the LA Fashion Week and has dressed the likes of Toni Braxton, but soon felt that she wasn't fulfilled. It took several nudges for her to listen and follow where the universe is wanting to take her. Now she is happier selling service than a product. She has also written a book titled, Permission to Leap: The Six-Phase Journey to Bring Your Vision to Life which is a guide to entrepreneurs on building and growing their one of a kind business.  Listen as she shares her journey to become a sought-after growth strategist and entrepreneur coach.  Enjoy! REMEMBER - "Even the mundane can be super loud." This week's Feng Shui tip is to clear and unblock your drains. Do you have blocked drains? This can represent blocked emotions in your life but also feel very stucked. So it's time to go around and make sure that all of your drains are very clear to release and let go of anything that's feeling stuck in your life but also you to move forward with ease and flow. HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT WE COVER DURING THIS EPISODE: Bri’s introduction of self and her thoughts on entrepreneurialism. What were the signs as early as childhood that she will make a name in the fashion industry? How did the universe give her a clear sign to walk away from all the glitz and glamour? (...How she felt it wasn’t fun anymore?)   The little pivots from L.A. to New York and now to Tulsa, Oklahoma. (All of these moves were not planned.)   Trusting the universe, her spiritual awakening. The book she wrote, Permission to Leap: The Six-Phase Journey to Bring Your Vision to Life.   LINKS & RESOURCES:  Free meditation guide to step into success from Patricia Lohan The Book - Permission to Leap: The Six-Phase Journey to Bring Your Vision to Life by Bri Seeley The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova   CONNECT WITH BRI SEELEY: Website  Instagram Join the Unapologetic Entrepreneur Posee   CONNECT WITH PATRICIA: Website Instagram Facebook Group QUOTES: "Entrepreneurialism is as much of a personal journey as it is a business journey." "You have to grow yourself in order then grow  your business." "My fashion business was like my training wheels for this business." "I am much happier selling service now than a product." "We're not conditioned to look at those signs." "Life isn't just meant to feel that way, we are not supposed to be crying and upset all the time." "The universe will communicate with us in whatever way we want it to." "Even the mundane can be super loud."  "There's so much magic available when we can drop the stories and drop the expectations." "Our heart holds the key to possibilities. Our brain is really like 'what is' and 'what has been'."

The Vampyre (John William Polidori)The Skeleton Court, or The Vampire Mistress (Elizabeth Caroline Grey) Varney the Vampire (James Malcolm Rymer) Carmilla (Sheridan LeFanu) Drácula (Bram Stoker)Vampire of the CoastThe Vampire (Robert Vignola) Nosferatu, una sinfonía de horror (F.
