This one won't help you much; it's a gem in its own right!Luckily, we have Anne-Laure to clear things up, in just a few minutes, what you need to remember about it! Little hints: it has something to do with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR, formerly PPWD, for Directive). The “Green Dot” is the 5th audio clip of the “Certifications Spotlight: Truths and Traps” series. This episode is very short and incisive. However, like the others, it unravels the mysteries behind one of the logos you find on the packaging. Let's equip you with knowledge and critical thinking to decipher:its meaning, its application, its grey areas, and its pros and cons.Spoiler alert: Anne-Laure will be back for the next two episodes, where we'll dive into the Triman logo and the Möbius logo, one after the other!HERE ARE THE RECOMMENDED RESOURCES The European Directive 94/62/EC: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document/EPRS_BRI(2022)734698EPR organisms mentioned:in France, there are 2 organisms: Leko and Citeo.in Quebec, you have Éco Entreprises Québec and, in the rest of Canada, you will find Multi-Material Stewardship Western or Circular Materials.WHERE TO FIND ANNE-LAURE BULLIFFON?Her LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/albulliffon/Albumine, in France: https://albumine.fr/Profil'Pack, in Canada: https://profilpackaging.com/ABOUT ANNE-LAURE BULLIFFON FROM ALBUMINEAs an entrepreneur committed to  ecological change, Anne-Laure founded PROFIL'PACK in Montreal in 2013  and ALBUMINE in Chambéry, France, in 2020.On both sides of the Atlantic, the two  agencies share a common mission: to enable food and cosmetics  manufacturers to rethink their packaging systems in order to include  their products in the virtuous circle of the circular economy, to reduce  waste and ecological impacts. Thanks to of her dual Franco-Quebec  culture, she is keen to put her expertise and network of  multidisciplinary collaborators in Canada and France to good use by  creating a bridge of resources and innovation between the two countries.  Anne-Laure is convinced that collective intelligence and access to  innovation are the keys to a successful ecological transition.Anne-Laure graduated from ESIREIMS in  2005 with a master's degree in packaging engineering. Automate every step in your product creation proces so you can focus on real creativity. Every step along the way of creating a piece of code and eventually an integrated product can be automated. The creation of the (embedded) code itself is the creative part but all the rest: let's automate! Together with Richard van de Laarschot (chief solution architect quality assurance at Capgemini Engineering) we explore how smart we can make hyper automation. A good message: Be aware not to fall in the bias trap that with a hyper automated production pipeline we find out that the developer working on the most complex parts is responsible for the most defects. For hundreds of years, man has been the greatest destroyer of the planet. As the highest being on the food chain, our impact on the environment is the greatest contributor to the loss of species worldwide. Breeding grounds are being destroyed and access to resources is diminishing due to industrial and residential development, logging, crop farming, livestock grazing, mining, road and dam building and pesticide use. All of this in the name of progress. This topic is one that really hits me where I live. Nothing angers me more than a chemical spill that kills countless animals and has long lasting effects on their habitats. I'm going to talk about three instances where greed, human error and indifference caused permanent damage to huge swaths of land and ocean. I'm going to talk about the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Chernobyl nuclear incident and the Palestine, Ohio train derailment. These aren't the only three chemical spills that have ruined countless miles of habitat and cost thousands of animals their lives, but these are hallmarks of what can happen when companies and their employees cut corners and refuse to follow the rules. Wie man mit diesen Risiken umgehen kann, darüber spreche ich heute mit Dr. Alexandra Paulus von der Stiftung Neue Verantwortung, die kürzlich darüber eine Studie geschrieben hat Shownotes Alexandra Paulus bei der Stiftung Neue Verantwortung, https://www.stiftung-nv.de/de/person/dr-alexandra-paulus-elternzeit Government's Role in Increasing Software Supply Chain Security, https://www.stiftung-nv.de/sites/default/files/governments_role_in_increasing_software_supply_chain_security.pdf NIS 2 directive, https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/de/document/EPRS_BRI(2021)689333 EU Cyber Resilience Act, https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/cyber-resilience-act Improving the Nation's Cybersecurity: NIST's Responsibilities Under the May 2021 Executive Order, https://www.nist.gov/itl/executive-order-14028-improving-nations-cybersecurity ‘The Internet Is on Fire', A vulnerability in the Log4j logging framework has security teams scrambling to put in a fix, https://www.wired.com/story/log4j-flaw-hacking-internet/ Conti ransomware uses Log4j bug to hack VMware vCenter servers, https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/conti-ransomware-uses-log4j-bug-to-hack-vmware-vcenter-servers/ Exploring a crypto-mining campaign which used the Log4j vulnerability, https://de.darktrace.com/blog/exploring-a-crypto-mining-campaign-which-used-the-log-4j-vulnerability Percepticon, Folge 24 Solarwinds, https://percepticon.de/2021/01/24-solarwinds-hack-invite-sven-herpig/ Kaseya supply chain attack impacts more than 1,000 companies, https://www.techrepublic.com/article/kaseya-supply-chain-attack-impacts-more-than-1000-companies/ Supply chain cyberattack with possible links to North Korea could have thousands of victims globally, https://cyberscoop.com/3cx-hack-supply-chain-north-korea/ Percepticon, Folge 22 Security by design /invite Dennis Stolp, https://percepticon.de/2020/12/22-security-by-design-invite-dennis-stolp/ Chinese Hackers Targeted Global Firms Via Supply Chain, https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/chinese-hackers-targeted-firms/ BSI IT-Sicherheitskennzeichen, https://www.bsi.bund.de/DE/Themen/Unternehmen-und-Organisationen/IT-Sicherheitskennzeichen/fuer-Hersteller/IT-SiK-fuer-hersteller_node.html MSC Label Debatte., https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/26/blue-ticked-off-the-controversy-over-the-msc-fish-ecolabel XKCD Comic “Dependency”, https://xkcd.com/2347/ National Telecommunications and Information Association, https://ntia.gov/page/software-bill-materials Verfahren gegen Lilith Wittmann eingestellt – weil CDU connect ungeschützt war, https://www.heise.de/news/Verfahren-gegen-Lilith-Wittmann-eingestellt-weil-CDU-connect-ungeschuetzt-war-6194222.html Governance von 0-Day-Schwachstellen in der deutschen Cyber-Sicherheitspolitik SWP-Studie 2019, https://www.swp-berlin.org/en/publication/governance-von-0-day-schwachstellen OECD, Encouraging vulnerability treatment, https://www.oecd.org/digital/encouraging-vulnerability-treatment.pdf Atlantic Council,

In this episode, we'll focus on one organisation that has become a pillar of the modern European security order: the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, or OSCE. The OSCE lacks the legal powers and the resources needed to live up to its ambition of becoming a platform for pan-European/trans-Atlantic cooperation. But OSCE agreements, such as the Vienna Document, help to promote military transparency, and election observation missions have advanced democratic reforms in several countries. http://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)696190 https://youtu.be/Ux-MUyB_jzs Source: © European Union - EP

In the European Union, 78 % of native flora and 84 % of crops are either partially or fully dependent on insects for pollination. But significant pollinator loss has been documented over time across the EU. According to the European Red List of Bees, around 9 % of all bee species are threatened in the EU. In this episode, we'll talk about the key role pollinators play in nature, the threats they face and EU action to protect them. http://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)696175 https://youtu.be/igbDomuXBUA Source: © European Union - EP

Over the past two decades, the European Union (EU) has been entrusted with a growing number of objectives and responsibilities. However, ensuring financing of related activities through the EU budget has often proven problematic, as this has long been capped at around 1 % of the Union's gross national income (GNI). During the preparation of the post-2020 EU multiannual financial framework (MFF), climate action, migration and border management were identified among the emerging priorities that required increased joint action and funding. http://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)690586 https://youtu.be/URWEBGtfF0I Source: © European Union - EP

In December 2020, the European Commission published a proposal for a regulation on contestable and fair markets in the digital sector, otherwise referred to as the digital markets act (DMA). The proposed legislation lays down harmonised rules aimed at regulating the behaviour of digital platforms acting as gatekeepers between business users and their customers in the European Union. This approach entails a shift from ex-post anti-trust intervention to ex-ante regulation, and would enshrine within EU law a set of ex-ante rules that would radically change how large digital platforms are allowed to operate in the EU. While there seems to be strong support for this approach in the EU, a number of issues regarding the designation of gatekeepers, the design of ex-ante obligations and prohibitions, and enforcement mechanisms have already been raised. http://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)690589 https://youtu.be/1p6vZsVQP6o Source: © European Union - EP

Serbia and Kosovo have both declared their intention to join the EU. However, despite some initial successes, such as the Brussels Agreement of 2013, the dialogue facilitated by the EU and initiated in 2011 has stalled. The reasons for the very limited results are multiple, ranging from the internal political situation in both countries, to ambiguous and asymmetrical expectations of the normalisation agreement. Currently, the most sensitive issue, the setting-up of the association/community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo, agreed in 2013, shows that the challenges are rooted deeply in history and have a much broader regional context. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)689371 https://youtu.be/VAfRu0DlMks Source: © European Union - EP

What is a smart village? The concept implies the participation of local people in improving their economic, social or environmental conditions, cooperation with other communities, social innovation and the development of smart village strategies. This concept is gaining traction on the rural development agenda, coinciding with the ongoing reform of the common agricultural policy (CAP). A key element of this reform will be a new delivery model based on each Member State developing a CAP strategic plan. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)689349 https://youtu.be/5LL7seLyMTM Source: © European Union - EP

Racial and ethnic minorities face discrimination and its consequences on a daily basis. The exact scale of the problem is hard to gauge owing to a lack of data and general under-reporting of racist incidents. The pandemic has seen a major increase in reports of racist and xenophobic incidents, however, while racial and ethnic minority groups have been disproportionately affected by the crisis, with higher death and infection rates. Although since 2000 the European Union has introduced legislation to combat racial and xenophobic discrimination, the problem persists, with the need for new measures recently highlighted by the global Black Lives Matter protests. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)690525 https://youtu.be/hEr0w6t_cwc Source: © European Union - EP

The dramatic consequences of climate change and environmental degradation have brought the need for a more sustainable economy to the top of the agenda. Transforming the EU economy to make it more sustainable requires large investments, especially for enabling a green and low-carbon transition. Given that the public sector alone cannot cover this financial need, solutions have been sought to bring the private sector on board. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)679081 https://youtu.be/VUrVv9Ud-7o Source: © European Union - EP

International law imposes an obligation to render assistance to persons and ships in distress at sea, which must be provided regardless of the persons' nationality or status or the circumstances in which they are found. Nevertheless, over the last couple of years, the Mediterranean Sea has been the backdrop for the largest number of casualties and missing people. One solution, proposed by academics, could be the harmonisation of the fragmented legal regime for maritime interceptions. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document.html?reference=EPRS_BRI(2021)659442 https://youtu.be/AHIZAuPJ2g8 Source: © European Union - EP

Covering nearly one third of the land surface of the globe, forests make a wide range of direct and indirect contributions to human well-being. Home to most of the world's terrestrial biodiversity, they also play an essential role in climate change mitigation, removing about a quarter of the CO2 that human activities add to the atmosphere. Worldwide, millions of hectares of forests and other types of vegetation burn every year.
