Join us for Shakespeare Summer! When most of us hear the name “Shakespeare,” we probably think back to a high school classroom, fluorescent lights buzzing overhead, while we struggled through Romeo and Juliet line by line—“wherefore art thou” and all that. But here's the truth: Shakespeare was never meant to be dissected like a frog under a microscope. His work, in fact, was never meant to be read AT ALL. He meant for his plays to be experienced. To be performed, seen, heard, and felt.We tend to think of Shakespeare as a school subject. Or that we should read it as part of a rich literature curriculum in order for our children to be well-versed academically. While Shakespeare's plays are part of a rich literary heritage, I want to make a case today that Shakespeare is not a subject at all. It's not a thing you “should” do in your homeschool to have well-educated kids. Today, I want to talk about why experiencing Shakespeare with your kids might be one of the most joyful things you ever do together. And one of my very favorite people, Ken Ludwig, celebrated playwright, fellow Shakespeare nerd, and author of How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare, joins me to help me make my case.In this episode, you'll hear: What traditional classrooms often get wrong when introducing ShakespeareWhy Ken recommends having kids start with reciting and memorizing passages How Shakespeare provides an entry to point to learning and loving complex languageLearn more about Sarah Mackenzie:Read-Aloud RevivalWaxwing BooksSubscribe to the NewsletterFind the rest of the show notes: readaloudrevival.com/shakespeare-is-not-school

DESIGN YOUR FAMILY'S UNIQUE HOMESCHOOL THAT YOU'LL LOVE! https://littlebylittlehomeschool.com/blueprint Homeschooling is about way more than school academics. It's creating a relationship that welcomes open dialogue and discussion about anything and everything. One of those topics should be our bodies and how we can take care of them well. And that includes our pelvic floor. Today's guest is Jenn Lormand of Tighten Your Tinkler and we are specifically focusing on sharing all about pelvic floor health with your daughter. Many of us weren't taught about this and had to quickly learn after a health crisis or bothersome symptoms. Our goal in this episode is to equip you with some actionable information so that you can begin to teach your daughter how to be proactive in her health. If you're feeling that familiar weight of disappointment about what didn't get accomplished this year, you're not alone. In this episode of the Art of Homeschooling, I discuss why shifting our focus toward what did happen strengthens the learning, builds connections, and creates positive momentum in our homeschools. When we celebrate progress, our brains release dopamine, which strengthens neural pathways and cements learning in ways that help reinforce the learning. You've accomplished more than you realize. What do submarines and science fair projects have in common? They both require strategy, patience, and a solid sense of humor. In our latest episode of Homeschool Talks, HSLDA President Jim Mason dives deep (pun fully intended) with Rear Admiral James Waters about being a homeschool father while navigating a high-stakes military career. This episode features: • Why Admiral Waters and his wife chose homeschooling for their kids, even with a life full of relocations and duty stations • What the military taught him about leadership and how those lessons show up at the kitchen table • Real opportunities for homeschool grads in the military (hint: it's more than marching and mess halls) • How military service can open unexpected doors for careers, education, and personal growth Whether you're a homeschool parent, a student weighing post-grad options, or just love a good sea story—this episode delivers insight and inspiration! “I am so grateful that my wife and I chose to homeschool our kids. And I am really excited that there continues to be a flourishing culture of homeschooling. I encourage you to keep the United States Navy in mind. As you're thinking about options—as your children graduate from high school—college is great, but it's not the only choice. The trades, the military—I would keep the military in mind because it can lead to all these other options later in life.”—Rear Admiral James Waters

What happens when you choose to step away from mainstream expectations and reclaim your family's destiny? Mary Wainwright's journey from conventional life to intentional living offers a roadmap for those feeling trapped in industrial systems.Mary returns to share insights from her new book "Taking Back My Life," which chronicles her radical transformation across every aspect of family living. She takes us through the stark contrast between her traumatic hospital birth and her subsequent empowering home births, revealing how this experience catalyzed her entire lifestyle shift. Rather than presenting her choices as the "right way," Mary simply illuminates alternatives many families never consider. The conversation explores how modern society has systematically disconnected us from fundamental knowledge in just one or two generations. From growing food to understanding natural remedies, we've surrendered our self-sufficiency to systems that often prioritize profit over wellbeing. Mary shares practical steps anyone can take - starting a small garden, learning to make bone broth, or questioning medical interventions - that gradually build toward greater independence.Perhaps most powerful is Mary's reflection on community building. She describes creating a "tribe" where families barter skills, share resources, and collectively raise children. This interdependence makes sustainable living not just possible but deeply fulfilling, addressing the isolation that drove many women away from traditional roles decades ago.The conversation continually returns to fear as the controlling mechanism that keeps us compliant within industrial systems. By recognizing this pattern and making intentional choices about time, education, health, and community, Mary demonstrates how families can create lives aligned with their deepest values rather than external expectations. Her parting question resonates: "Are you living the life you want your children to replicate?"Ready to reclaim aspects of your family's life? You can have all the Montessori knowledge. The shelf. The printables. The golden beads. But if you skip this one skill? Your homeschool won't thrive. In this episode, Aubrey and David reveal the most essential—and most overlooked—skill in Montessori homeschooling: observation. Not lesson planning. Not curriculum shopping. Observation. You'll learn why focusing on how to teach matters more than what to teach. When you observe first and teach second, your homeschool shifts from chaos to clarity. You stop second-guessing. Your child feels seen. And every lesson lands exactly when they're ready for it.This is part 3 in our series on The Montessori Homeschool Blueprint.

What if everything we've been taught about Earth's geological timeline is dramatically wrong? In this eye-opening episode of Refining Rhetoric, host Robert interviews Dr. Jeff Miller, a biomechanical engineer with a PhD from Auburn University who specializes in creation science. Key topics covered: · Dr. Miller's research on hypo-gene speleogenesis showing caves form rapidly through rising acidic waters during the flood · The discovery of soft tissue in dinosaur fossils challenging conventional dating methods · Why carbon dating actually supports young Earth theories rather than contradicting them · The "reproducibility crisis" affecting over 50% of published scientific research · How leading cosmologists acknowledge the universe appears "tailor-made" for humans · Educational opportunities through Dr. Miller's "Flooded" book and hands-on programs in Arizona studying geological evidence Dr. Miller shares how scientific evidence increasingly supports Biblical accounts like the global flood, offering compelling alternatives to conventional geological and evolutionary theories. What happens when your homeschool plan goes on the road—literally? Today, I'm joined by second-generation homeschooler and seasoned moving pro, Adrienne Denison, to talk about schooling through cross-country moves, starting over in a new place, and making sure your curriculum doesn't get lost between boxes of Legos and winter coats.Adrienne unpacks (pun absolutely intended) the lessons she's learned navigating three major moves in just six months, transitioning her four kids through pivotal school years—and why she's so passionate about not letting perfect get in the way of done. As a CC (Classical Conversations) family and longtime Autopilot user, Adrienne shares her best tactical tips for planning, packing, downsizing, and keeping your school system humming even when life's upside down.If you've ever wondered how to homeschool when your schedule and address are both a moving target, this episode is full of honest encouragement, practical hacks, and permission to let some things go so you can say yes to connection, community, and new beginnings (even if it means doing math on the trampoline). What You'll Learn About Homeschooling While MovingHow Adrienne survived three “mini-moves” in one big cross-country adventureHer secret for never losing track of curriculum (even with boxes everywhere)What to toss, keep, or give away—and why purging was actually a blessingWhy Adrienne doesn't mind letting academics take a back seat after a big moveHow using Homeschool on Autopilot helped her keep everyone on track (and sane)Tips for banking “school days” early and freeing up time for finding new friendsWhy supporting your family's emotional needs is just as critical as checking boxes—and yes, you have permission to lamentAdrienne's best hack for organizing books, prepping for high school, and making your next move smoother (even if it's just down the street)Links and Resources From Today's ShowPut Your Homeschool Year on AutopilotConsistency BootcampClassical ConversationsMagic Number SchoolingDark Clouds, Deep Mercy (book on lamenting)Homeschool Better Together CommunityFor full show notes and a transcript of today's episode, head to pambarnhill.com/hsbt38

Visit us at shapedbydog.com Can you really stop a dog from chasing deer or anything else without an e-collar? Yes, and I'm sharing how. There's an ongoing commentary that it's impossible to train certain dogs, especially those with high prey drive, to come when called using only reinforcement-based methods. Now, those of us who are reinforcement-based trainers know that it's absolutely possible. The secret lies in understanding the Canine Predatory Motor Sequence. Rather than trying to stop dogs at the end of the sequence when it's way too late, we focus on the early stages and what we want our dogs to do. In this episode, you'll hear: • Why some say reinforcement-based training alone can't stop high prey drive dogs. • How the canine predatory motor sequence works and why it matters for your dog's behavior • Why suppressing behavior isn't training, and what I do instead. • The three common ways people deal with behavior problems and which one really works. • How I use predatory redirection to interrupt chase drive. • A real-life example of Prophet ignoring deer just 15 feet away. • How we changed Tater Salad's behavior using relationship-building games. • Special opportunity to join my Home School the Dog program. • Why head halters can act like emergency brakes when you need them. • How I redirect Kim's rescue dog Waffles from distractions to focus back to me and what you can take away from it. Join us for Shakespeare Summer! Why should we read the classics? So many of us want to read and enjoy them, but we don't want to spend our precious free time feeling like we're incompetent because we just don't get it or that the internet has completely ruined our brains (is this just me?).This winter in RAR Premium, we did a whole retreat about falling in love with your reading life again, and today I'm sharing one of those sessions, called How to Read Classics (and Actually Enjoy Them). RAR Community Manager Kelsey Murphy and I talk all about how to find your way into the classics and *really* begin to relish them. Most of this translates to reading classics with your kids, but this session really is for you. We want you to discover the fun and enjoyment in classic literature because it makes your life richer and better. It also makes you a more peaceful and joy-filled mama to those sweet kids of yours. In this episode, you'll hear: Helpful entry points to reading the classics How to approach classics as an invitation to learning and enjoyment (not like homework)Why watching the movie first will not get your Homeschool Mama card revoked (we promise!)Learn more about Sarah Mackenzie:Read-Aloud RevivalWaxwing BooksSubscribe to the NewsletterFind the rest of the show notes at: readaloudrevival.com/read-the-classics
