The point of maintenance mode is to give you time and space to take a REAL break. Not a vacation where you're checking your email or you're stuck on your laptop kind of break. But a real, genuine break. That step back can feel kinda scary. It might feel like you're standing at a precipice, trying to figure out if you'll trip and fall over the edge, or if it's just a tiny step down to a solid surface. That step means that you have to trust that the systems you've built and the team you've trained can handle whatever comes up. That's the goal, to allow you to be able to take a break from your business without breaking your business. And what does that look like in a real business? To go through the process to prepare for maintenance mode, build the systems, and then trust them to work and step away? That's what we're talking about today.Claire Pelletreau is a Facebook and Instagram ad expert and conversion optimization expert. Claire also LOVES talking about money–profit, loss, the whole shebang. She asks her guests how much they charge–and how much they earn–on her show, the Get Paid Podcast.Claire recently took a break from her business while on maternity leave for several months. She knew it was coming, so she prepared, she planned and she got her business ready to operate in maintenance mode. And then she walked away. For months. During a pandemic. We review the platforms available on the market monthly (through a combination of client feedback, test events and demos). There's no platform which is an ‘all in one' or ‘all inclusive' solution when it comes to virtual event platforms. Bear in mind, most virtual event platforms were originally live event apps or software. Covid19 accelerated many platforms to pivot into creating virtual event solutions. In the long run, this seems to be a smart move as hybrid events are likely to become standard (especially if you understand how to monetize hybrid events and maximise global audience reach).

Learn Claire’s “why” and what drives her to help others.  She shares her story of going from her stable job to starting her own business. Additionally we dive into strengths.  What are the things you do really well? Often healthcare systems have you do a job in a certain way with no leeway.  You may have certain strengths that you cannot express because the job won’t let you, i.e. you need to do what is required!   Why force yourself to do things you don’t like or you’re not good at?  These things made her decide to leave the hospital.  It felt taboo to leave her “good” job because she wanted more, but in the end it was the best decision she ever made. To share her story and a lot of lessons along the way, we’re hosting a 3-part series the first 3 Tuesdays in September.   The 3 part series will include:  How Claire created her own wellness business using her strengths, starting with group classes How to do neuro wellness assessments for your clients that DON’T feel like physical therapy evaluations How to expand in your income streams by taking programs online, doing 1:1 wellness sessions, and expanding your programs beyond exercise  After joining this series you will: Think about your career differently - what is possible in the world, not just what should you do? Understand that it is possible to build a business you love that helps you pay off your loans sooner than you thought Understand the math to make the switch from full time employment to your own gig And more! Join us for the webinar series starting Sept 1st for the next 3 Tuesdays at 5:30 pm PST / 8:30 pm EST https://www.neurocollaborative.com/wellness-webinar Anti-racist action: practice saying something when you see or hear something wrong.  Not just referring to issues of race but other stuff too.  Practice speaking up even though it makes you uncomfortable.  Stand by what you know is right so others are free to do the same.  Calling out vs calling in.

In today’s conversation we discuss a whole range of topics, including: - How Claire’s upbringing helped shape her career and how her parents instilled certain qualities and values that have helped her become the leader she is today - How she managed to secure leadership roles at two social media giants, one including Snapchat where she received an offer while pregnant and joined 2 weeks before the birth of her 2nd child - Plus, Claire’s first-hand experience of climbing the ranks in the largely male-dominated tech industry and what tech businesses can do to help promote diversity and inclusion Claire is one of the most inspiring and high profile female leaders in Tech and was an absolute joy to interview. She gave a truly honest and candid insight into her career and shared so many insightful pieces of advice – so whether you’re a job seeker, an aspiring GM or a leader in Tech, there is something for everyone in this episode. Claire Pelletreau is a Facebook + Instagram ads expert and host of the the Get Paid Podcast. I discovered Claire back in 2015 when I had just started my business and started to figure out that there was this whole world of online entrepreneurs helping each other learn what they needed to learn to actually get traction and grow their businesses online. I came across her in Becca Tracey’s Uncaged Lifers Facebook Group, saw that she taught Facebook Ads and I immediately picked up her Absolute Facebook Ads course. Not only is she a Facebook Ads expert who runs ads for her clients and teaches her students how to run successful ad campaigns for their clients, she also has a podcast called Get Paid, where she gets into the nitty gritty with some of your favorite online entrepreneurs to find out exactly what it takes to run their businesses online. What I’ve always loved about Claire is that she’s real, she’s honest, vulnerable and she tells it like it is - and I really gravitate toward people like that because I’ve made every mistake you can possibly make in trying to grow my business - especially when it comes to Facebook Ads - and what I find inspiring about Claire is that she’s made all the mistakes too, and she’s super successful because of it. And so as I’ve had more and more guests on this podcast to talk about their business journeys, what I’ve realized is that mistakes are a prerequisite for success. Not a single person that I’ve talked to, myself and Claire included, just nailed it right from the start. If you’re not out there trying things, underpricing yourself, and being nervous on consultation calls and launching products to crickets and screwing up your tech, you’re probably not learning, and you’re not growing. And we continue to make mistakes, and I think Claire already knows this, but what’s really changed for me is how I think about them. It’s what I make those mistakes and failures mean. So I’m really excited for you to hear my conversation with Claire about her business evolution and how you can get started using Facebook Ads in your business in a really effective way. Claire White – Flourishing with White Ink Calligraphy   In this episode, Angela and Claire discuss: How Claire began her Calligraphy business and how she got started in the industry. How Claire balances her intellectual side and creative side with the type of work she’s doing as a lawyer and as a calligrapher. What an invitation suite means and what the different options look like (i.e. outer envelopes, inner envelopes, spot calligraphy, etc.) Challenges that Claire faces in the industry and her business and what she has learned from those experiences. Tips, tricks, and things to know when working with a calligrapher. Key Takeaways: Calligraphy is an art. Every calligrapher’s hand is different. They may be able to do something similar, but it will never be identical to someone else’s. It doesn’t have to be expensive to get gorgeous calligraphy. There are ways to save costs, but still get the glamour that you want from your wedding. The first wedding anniversary is paper, you can do creative things with calligraphy as an option (i.e. having your wedding vows written out and framed). Don’t get overwhelmed with social media. Pick one platform, post regularly, and it does work.     "Other than wedding calligraphy, I’m always looking for ways to continue serving my clients." — Claire White    Connect with Angela Proffitt Client & Communication Specialist:   Get your free wedding website at https://www.zola.com/angelaproffitt Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/angelaproffitt/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AngelaProffittLLC/ Website: www.AngelaProffitt.com Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/aproffitt/ YouTube: Angela Proffitt Twitter: @AngelaProffitt_ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/angelaproffittLLC/ Book: The Power of 3 P’s & Gems Unveiled & Every Entrepreneur’s MUST Have Apps & 47 Tips for Planning a Wedding & Wedding and Event Floor Plans (Volume 1, 2, 3)     Connect with Claire White: Facebook:  White Ink Calligraphy Website:  www.WhiteInkCalligraphy.com Email:  Claire@WhiteInkCalligraphy.com Instagram: @whiteinkcalligraphy Front Door Wreath Contest: Application         Show notes by show producer: Chelsea Taylor-Sturkie   Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. This week is International Nurses Week culminating in International Nurses Day on Saturday May 12th, the date on which Florence Nightingale was born. To celebrate this, my special guest this week is an intensive care nurse, Claire Davies. Claire is my wife. To me, she is intelligent, caring, kind and compassionate, as both a nurse and a person. So after struggling for a while with the choice of who I should have as my first nurse guest on the podcast, it gradually became obvious that it should be Claire. Claire began as an intensive care nurse back in 1999 as a Critical Care Course student at the Alfred Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in Melbourne. After rising to become an Associate Nurse Unit Manager there a few years later, Claire took time off to rear our 2 beautiful daughters before reestablishing herself as a Critical Care Liaison Nurse at the Epworth Hospital, also in Melbourne. Whilst Claire is definitely an excellent nurse, with a keen focus on developing healthy and valuable nurse-doctor relationships which place the patient’s needs above anything else, she is also the long-suffering partner of an intensivist, me. This gives Claire the perfect perspective to talk about being an intensivist’s partner, something we do towards the end of this conversation. We also talk about: Her career journey What is it like being an intensive care nurse The dynamic and challenging environment of an ICU The characteristics of good intensive care doctors An instance where she confronted an intensivist about how she felt intimidated by him The aim to bring everything back to being about the patient Communication between ICU doctors and nurses How nurses are good at pattern recognition How important decisiveness is Respecting and not unfairly judging prior clinical decisions Drug and other types of errors An interesting tale of one of her patients falling out of bed How Claire felt in the period afterwards and how she dealt with it Communicating in family meetings, including the use of silence Prioritising rest to bring her best self to work Some other wellness habits including eating well, exercise and yoga Seeing the drinking of water as an important goal during a shift The “funny jokes” intensivists often tell on their ward rounds Her thoughts to help intensivists be more connected to their partners and families Her interest in a more focused acknowledgement of death in the ICU when it happens My genuine hope with this podcast is to inspire and empower you to bring your best self to work and to consider adopting some of the habits and behaviours my guests give their perspectives on, with the ultimate purpose of improving outcomes for all of our patients. Shadowlight: Transformation, Healing, Activism, Mental Health, Mindset, Spirituality, Biohacking, Trauma, Personal Growth

After losing her mom at eighteen years old and her dad at twenty-five, Claire Bidwell Smith devoted her entire life to grief work—to finding connection, meaning, love, and light amongst loss and grief. She is an author, a grief therapist, and a speaker; she hosts workshops and is a book coach; and, her most important title of all, she is the mom to two beautiful little girls (with another baby on the way!). Claire so beautifully and gracefully marries the shadow and the light in her life and in the lives of others. In fact, Claire’s first book, Rules of Inheritance, profoundly touched my life. It was the first memoir I read after my mother died. I found Rules while engaging in one of my favorite past times—strolling the aisles of a bookstore. It practically leapt off of the shelf and into my hands, and as soon as I read the description in the back I knew that was by no accident. I devoured her book in a day. Sobbed. And read it again. I saw so much of myself in her and I felt so much less alone (which is the beauty of memoirs). I am personally so grateful that Claire has chosen to share her light with the world, and I am so excited to share her and her light with you all!   IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT:  How memoirs can make you feel less alone in grief (and in life) Her journey towards becoming a grief therapist Why the five stages of grief are misunderstood—what can go, and what is missing How grief never really goes away, but instead changes How the love and light in life is closely related to the loss and grief in life How Claire’s experience with a psychic medium led her into researching the afterlife and writing her second book Why it is important to feel connected to your loved ones even after they have passed How Claire speaks to her children about death Plus much more…   RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Mentioned: Claire’s Online Grief Course Dr. Elizabeth Ross’s Five Stages of Grief The Tibetan Book of the Dead Edgar Allan Poe—The Raven Caitlin Doughty—Smoke Gets In Your Eyes John Kabat-Zinn—Full Catastrophe Living John Kabat-Zinn—Wherever You Go, There You Are   Connect with Claire: Website: https://clairebidwellsmith.com/ Instagram: @clairebidwellsmith Facebook:  Claire Bidwell Smith Twitter: @clairebidwell    QUOTES  “After my mom died, when I was eighteen, I didn’t know anyone who had been through anything like that and I just felt like I was surrounded by my peers, who were living a pretty normal life, going to college and, you know, away from home for the first time and my world felt really different.”   “A lot of people struggle within the five stages of grief because they’re trying to make them work and they don’t really work.”   “That’s the surprising thing about grief—it can really come back when you aren’t expecting it.”   “The psychic mediums were amazing; they were really incredible. I had some experiences that completely changed my views of everything, and I had some experiences that were total bullshit—there was nothing good about it and you could tell the person was a charlatan. It was fascinating.”   “The sense that people got when they felt connected to their loved one, it was phenomenal to see and I was like, I don’t give a fuck if it’s real.”   “If you could pick any scenario to happen when you die, what would you want it to be?”   LET’S CONNECT Website: www.bryannadee.com Instagram: @bryanna_dee Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bryannadee Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/bryannadee/

An interest in health and fitness may begin with a desire to look good on the outside, but most of us stick with sport because of the internal benefits—the sense of aliveness and vitality, the feeling of strength and connection to our bodies and the world around us. Training gives us a few hours away from our busy lives, and if we’re lucky, it allows us to be fully present. Now imagine turning those few hours of escape into a few days, a few weeks, or even a year! What would it be like to leave the modern world and spend time in the wild, developing a deep connection with yourself and the earth? Claire Dunn was living a typical fast-paced, urban lifestyle. Working as a lobbyist and environmental activist in a high-pressure, highly political environment, she longed for the opportunity to get closer to the wilderness she was fighting for and explore the human-nature connection. Starting in 2010, Claire spent a year in the wild, and that experience became the subject of her subsequent memoir, My Year Without Matches: Escaping the City in Search of the Wild. A trained Vision Quest guide, Claire offers rewilding workshops and retreats as well as personal mentoring for people seeking a greater sense of connection. She is a regular contributor to publications such as The Sydney Morning Herald, Huffington Post, and The Newcastle Herald. Today Claire shares the inspiration for her year in the wilderness, explaining her preparation and the structure of the experience. She walks us through a typical day in the bush, sharing the skills she practiced, what diet and exercise looked like, and her core practice of wandering. Claire discusses her struggle to readjust to the modern world and her commitment to helping others find connection to themselves, others and the earth. Listen in for Claire’s insight on being versus doing, and learn to pursue rewilding in your own backyard.
