Christian Lundgaard might have parked his car in victory lane this past weekend at Road America, but he had an epic journey to get there. Our resident open wheeler Conor Day was in Elkhart Lake taking in the action, and he's back on Speed Street this week to recap the race. He and Producer Bobby discuss Christian's lap one contact with Scott Dixon, his heroic drive through the field, Alex Palou's pit road trouble and Marcus Armstrong's tragic engine failure. Also, silly season is ramping up as Felix Rosenqvist announces that he won't be returning to Meyer Shank Racing in 2027. Road America's runner-up finisher David Malukas joins the show to speak on his great performance in 2026 and his time so far with Team Penske. David reflects on a difficult second place finish at this year's Indianapolis 500, and how he's learning a lot from his Penske teammates Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin. Finally, David looks ahead to the rest of the year and what he can do to continue his strong performance and chase down Alex Palou for the championship. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this week's episode of Insurance Town, I had the privilege of sitting down with my good friend Kelly Smith.Kelly is one of those people who has truly lived the insurance industry from every angle. She grew up in a family agency, spent time at the front desk, worked in personal lines, commercial lines, agency operations, underwriting, carrier sales, and now helps independent agencies grow through her work with FirstChoice. What I loved about this conversation is that Kelly's story is not just about insurance. It is about curiosity, hard work, education, family, leadership, and finding your place in an industry that can open a lot of doors if you are willing to keep learning. We talked about what it was like growing up in an independent agency, hiding under desks, messing with paper files, and learning the business from the inside out. Kelly shared how that agency background gave her a completely different perspective when she moved to the carrier side. She understood the urgency agents feel because she had sat in that seat herself. We also talked about her passion for education. Kelly shared a powerful story about being homeschooled, feeling behind academically when she started college, and how that experience fueled her desire to keep learning. Since then, she has earned multiple designations, completed her CPCU, and recently finished her MBA in insurance. The best insurance professionals don't just master one job. They learn the entire ecosystem. Kelly's career took her from an independent agency to the carrier side and now to helping agencies grow through a network. Each step gave her a new perspective that made her more valuable. Whether it's earning a designation, volunteering with an association, mentoring others, or simply staying curious, investing in your education compounds over time. Your next opportunity often comes from something you're willing to learn today. One of my favorite parts of the episode was our conversation about the next generation. Kelly's daughter recently attended risk management camp at App State, and we talked about how important it is to show young people that this industry is bigger than home and auto insurance. There are opportunities in sales, underwriting, claims, marketing, leadership, technology, agency ownership, and so much more.Kelly also shared what it means to be recognized as one of Insurance Business America's Rising Stars. Her humility really came through in this part of the conversation. She talked about being grateful for the opportunities she has had, but also wanting her story to encourage others, especially women and young professionals, to see what is possible in this business.00:00 Welcome 02:35 Born Into Insurance 06:00 Agency vs. Carrier: Seeing Both Sides 09:10 Can We Attract the Next Generation? 12:20 From Homeschool to MBA 17:45 Why Education Creates Opportunity 23:45 Leadership Through Service 26:00 Becoming an Insurance Rising Star 30:15 Helping Independent Agencies Grow 31:45 The Truth About Insurance Networks 35:45 Connect with Kelly 36:50 Sponsors & ClosingIf you're looking for one of the most innovative events in the insurance industry, check out Insurance Fest, hosted by Insurance Business America. You built a firm because you wanted freedom — so why does it feel like you're more trapped than ever?If you're a solo or small-firm attorney caught between doing work you love and running a business nobody taught you how to manage, this one's for you.Criminal defense attorney Monica Ishak launched The Ishak Law Firm in Palm Beach County with no client base, no playbook, and a laptop that barely worked. She and Coach Gary Miles talk honestly about what it took to go from breaking even at $10K a month to more than doubling her revenue — and why the hardest part wasn't the business. It was learning to stop being her own worst critic, ask for help, and see herself as a firm owner instead of a solo practitioner just getting by. Whether you're thinking about going out on your own or you're in the thick of it, Monica's story is both a mirror and a roadmap.Key Takeaways:Recognize that fear of putting yourself out there — not lack of skill — is often what keeps a new firm from growingReframe your perceived weaknesses (youth, gender, non-traditional background) as the very things that differentiate youInvest in coaching and mentorship before you think you're ready — waiting until crisis hits costs more than starting earlyShift your identity from "lawyer who owns a business" to "business owner who practices law" — it changes every decision you makeBuild your referral network through genuine relationships, not just marketing spend — the work that energizes you often produces the best resultsGive yourself the same grace you'd give a colleague — showing up imperfect still beats not showing upMonica Ishak is a criminal defense attorney, firm founder, Super Lawyers Rising Star, and co-host of Come Back with a Warrant. Her perspective matters because she's living the journey most attorney-entrepreneurs are either starting or stuck in the middle of — and she's candid about all of it. Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Big names are leaving TNA and the timing feels messy, so we sit down and talk it through the only way we know how: honestly, with context, and with a little chaos along the way. We react to the latest TNA shakeups, what it can signal when creative voices disappear, and why wrestling promotions can stumble when the people calling the shots don't truly understand the wrestling business. From there, we open it up to the live chat and let the audience steer. We swap stories from the road, talk about giveaways and the very real sticker shock of shipping merch in 2025, and answer questions about who we've worked with and what we remember most. Teddy shares memories of riding with Brian Pillman and Tom Zink, and we get into those little human details that never show up in highlight reels but tell you everything about the era.We also dig into what still makes a wrestler feel like a star today. LA Knight comes up fast, and we break down why microphone skills, confidence, and simple character work still matter even in an age where everyone can “go” in the ring. The conversation drifts into movies and storytelling, including why Jaws remains a masterclass in clear stakes and suspense and why wrestling works best when it stays simple and good. We close with radio talk, voice work, and how being yourself is often the best gimmick you'll ever have.If you enjoy straight-shooting wrestling talk with real stories and a live-room vibe, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave us a review. What do you think is really happening in TNA right now?Send us Fan Mail

This episode is a unique blend of sports analysis and British charm, as the speaker chats with Giants Insider Susan Slusser about the latest developments in the world of baseball. From the Giants' surprising comeback to the potential trades that could shape their future, this conversation has something for every baseball fan. Susan Slusser joins the show from England, where she's waiting in line for a Paul Weller concert with her friends. But don't worry, she's still got her finger on the pulse of the Giants, and she shares her insights on the team's recent performance. The conversation covers everything from Bryce Eldridge's impressive grand slam to the potential trade of Logan Webb. With her trademark bluntness, Susan shares her thoughts on the Giants' current situation and what it might mean for their future. One of the highlights of the episode is Susan's discussion of Matt Chapman's resurgence, which has been a topic of much debate among fans. She also talks about the emergence of Dylan Smith, a young player who's been making waves in the Giants' bullpen. And, of course, no episode would be complete without some fun conversation about music - in this case, the classic tunes of Simon and Garfunkel. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Most people think the biggest risk in buying a business is overpaying. It's not. It's signing an LOI you don't fully understand. Moving fast because someone on the internet told you speed wins. Then finding yourself thirty, forty thousand dollars deep into a deal that was never going to close the way you structured it. Eric Hsu has seen it happen more times than he can count. Over 160 closed deals as an M&A attorney who exclusively represents buyers. And the pattern almost always starts at the LOI - that document most first-time buyers treat like a formality. AI can hand you twenty questions to ask a seller. It can flag risk, validate numbers, model theory. It's genuinely useful. And genuinely dangerous when you don't know what you're actually looking at. Because AI can't read why a seller gets vague about their Google Ads account in a way that means something. It can't tell you that annual subscription revenue the seller just collected isn't really theirs yet - and your client inherits every obligation to fulfil it. It doesn't understand deal psychology. It can't sit across from someone who built their business over thirty years and feel where the resistance is coming from. That's pattern recognition. That's what 160 closed deals actually buys you. In this episode, Jaryd and Eric pull apart exactly where AI helps, where it quietly misleads you, and where it has no business making the call. You'll learn: Why the LOI is the single most expensive legal mistake first-time buyers make - and what stress-testing one actually looks like before you sign The working capital trap that kills deals mid-diligence and leaves buyers choosing between injecting $100K cash or walking away with nothing How SBA lending rules have shifted since mid-2025 - and why brokers now favour cash buyers who show up lender-ready from day one What AI genuinely cannot replicate: pattern recognition, human behaviour, and the deal empathy that holds negotiations together The holdco structure Eric recommends for portfolio buyers - when to set it up, why before your first SBA close, and what it actually costs Why integrity issues during diligence are non-negotiable walk-aways - and the dating analogy that explains exactly why The glue of the deal is the relationship. The trust. The ability to get both sides on a call and actually work something out. AI can model the numbers. It can't do that.

The human brain works very hard behind the scenes even in the most mundane aspects of daily life, like enjoying a nice day or determining the meaning of chit-chat with a friend. Ferreting out the basis and structures of our brain's labor is the domain of Daniel Yon, a psychologist and neuroscientists and director of the Uncertainty Lab at Birkbeck, University of London. In this Social Science Bites podcast, Yon - author of the 2025 book A Trick of the Mind: How the Brain Invents Your Reality -- details for interviewer David Edmonds why he feels that just as science itself represents a solid - but not "bullet-proof" way of interpreting the natural world, science also well describes how the brain itself does the same. "I think that at the heart of what I think science and the brain share is this preoccupation with building theories and models based on the data that you've gathered and using those theories to make sense of the world around you. That's a very powerful way to make sense of things," he explains, before adding the caveat, "but it also means that once you start to build your theories and paradigms, they can become the filter and the lens through which everything else gets seen." Yon's scholarship has earned him a number of honors, such as the Experimental Psychology Society's EPS Prize and the Janet Taylor Spence Award from the Association for Psychological Science. He has also been named a Rising Star by the Cognitive Neuroscience Society and received a mid-career fellowship by the British Academy.

We welcome Emmy Award-Winning sports television host, Laura Rutledge, for a raw and inspiring conversation about the journey behind the success. Before becoming one of the most recognizable faces in sports media, Laura was on a path that she never thought would end up landing her a sideline view of sports' biggest arenas from NFL to College Football to The Masters. In a deeply personal revelation, Laura opens up about the sacrifices, grief, fear of losing her career after becoming a mom, and the relentless work it takes to show up for both family and purpose. A powerful reminder that strength isn't just what you achieve — it's what you overcome. Laura shares the emotional decision of becoming a mother while fearing it could slow down — or even ruin — the career she worked so hard to build. Reflecting on her recent years, she opens up about the real fear and even disappointment of finding out about her first pregnancy and how that single experience changed her mindset and course of life forever. She talks candidly about balancing ambition with family, overcoming doubt, handling loss, and redefining success beyond titles and television. Laura explains the support of her long-time husband, breaking the mold and attacking life differently than most couples, Laura opens up on the challenges of having a high profile career, while trying to raise kids away from the spotlight and stay true to her roots. Although her younger years were shaped by a competitive nature- performing ballet overseas, winning Miss Florida in 2012 and developing a deep love of Gator pride attending Florida University, Laura discovered her true calling and the love of her in life, in an unexpected turn. Laura opens up about meeting her husband, Josh early in life and building a relationship while navigating the uncertainty of a rising career in sports broadcasting. She reflects on breaking into a male-dominated industry, earning respect in sports media, and the pressure that came with constantly proving herself on the biggest stages. This is a powerful conversation about ambition, sacrifice, motherhood, love, and pure authenticity you don't want to miss. And from our Pivot Family to yours-Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there who consistently show up with unconditional love and praying for those who may be missing their moms today, we see you and send you strength.
