In this episode Steph shares a fresh and raw experience where she made an expensive and painful mistake in her business. Although this wound is still fresh we step into the power of owning our mistakes and using them to propel us into protecting ourselves and our customers from them in the future. As always we manage to find the humour in our struggles and use it to step out of the shame spiral and into some solutions aligned with our hearts and neurological diversities. How Steph managed to quickly exit the shame spiral and her epiphany around bringing in outside help. We share about the shift in negative self-talk that comes when you accept your own weaknesses without judgement. How going through these hard lessons and owning your part in them allows you build things into your life that protect you from them in the future. A random segue all about my cute puppy and her impact on my life in the studio. There’s a big movement in our culture today regarding body positivity and self-love. On a broad scale, things are changing. Clothing brands are removing retouched images from their ad campaigns, the entertainment industry is casting a wider range of body shapes and sizes, and social media influencers are beginning to take the emphasis away from the highlight reel and instead focusing on what’s real and authentic.  But changing the conversation around body positivity is no easy feat. While things are shifting across the board, there are still so many people who define their worth by the number on the scale and are focused on their perceived flaws and insecurities. Steph Gaudreau has one of the most influential voices in this space. Her personal story is an incredible testimony of overcoming negative self-talk and breaking free from an unhealthy relationship with food, exercise, and body image.  Today you’re going to hear Steph’s journey through navigating and changing her relationship with her body. You’re also going to learn some of the insights and philosophies that Steph uses to help women embrace their bodies, proudly take up space in the world, and to wear the shorts.  In this episode you’ll discover: The power of challenging your negative self-talk. Why the scale is not a good measurement of health or success.   How Steph transformed her relationship with food and fitness.  What it means to wear the shorts.  The struggles Steph faced while naming her book.  What it means to move with intention.  The difference between loving your body and embracing your body.  What drove Steph to shift her career from recipes to a four-pillar health philosophy.  How to fit exercise into your lifestyle, and not vice-versa.  The importance of having gratitude for your body. Two different types of muscle growth, and how they work.  The main pillars of the Core 4 (and how they can help you become happier!) What mindset encompasses, and why changing it can be so difficult.  The importance of having a purpose outside of yourself. Why shifting the focus away from yourself can help you grow.  The power of giving an honest compliment. Steph used to work at SpaceX and NASA... It's Steph's 1 year anniversary since she quit her job working as a rocket scientist. We also chat about... Steph's strategy to reach FI How she acquired her property in Greece Getting over the fear of going to Europe What she currently spends her time on Her side hustles organising money workshops Enjoy this chat with Steph, and please subscribe to us in iTunes if you enjoyed it! Show notes and links from today's episode Blog: The Money Muse Steph on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Gold City Ventures How they paid off $200,000 in debt in 5 years | Mr. and Mrs. rich & REGULAR Article: For These Women, a FIRE That Burns Too Male and Too White Requirements to become an accredited investor Mad Fientist Etsy Shop: The Swag Elephant Book: Broke Millennial Key takeaways from our chat with Steph 1 - The risk in buying a property overseas Steph was born in Greece but moved at the age of 3. She didn't meet her dad until she was 20, and that's when she was introduced to the concept of building villas and renting them out to tourists during the summer. So she started saving all the money from her job to allocate it to building a villa, and hiring her Dad as a property manager. Steph explains that there was a huge risk in this, and she decided to take a year off to see the villa get built and get to know her Dad. In the end it all worked out - she was willing to take the risk to maximise the return. 2 - How Steph decides what to do with her time It wasn't easy for Steph to quit, she first took on a part time contract before completely quitting. She then immediately took some barre classes, got a dog, volunteered at a pet shelter and finally had time to do all the things she wanted to do. Now she works at a co working space and runs a few side hustles including setting up events, financial coaching and talking about investing. She's realised that now that she's FI, she has the time to pursue activities that have a bigger impact. 3 - Not everything has to be tracked Steph does not identify as frugal or non-frugal; she's somewhere in the middle. She lives in Seattle and spends around $4k a month. Her priorities are education and health, and she is willing to spend money on things she finds important. She says that unlike others who reach FI, she did not really track her journey, but relied on her property in Greece to help her get where she wanted to be. What is Steph up to now?  She recently decided that diet doesn't need to be limited to a label, and is finding a new definition of nutrition as a holistic nutrition coach.  She has a book coming out next year that covers her four pillars: Eat nourishing foods, Strengthen your body Recharge your energy, and Get your mindset right .  We barely scratched the surface of Steph's wheelhouse.  As a business person and brand, I am inspired by the work she does. Topics Discussed in the Podcast  Importance of transparency and vulnerability online Why body type can make fitting into a sport feel hard How to focus on being healthy, not smaller Changing habits is about adding in healthier foods, not restriction How Steph grew comfortable and shifted her identity and business Steph's Four Key Pillars for Health  Listen Now Links Harder to Kill Radio: Steph's podcast StephGaudreau.com Steph's Instagram Support the Show If you would like to support the growth my show, I'd love your contribution on.  Patreon.  The current production of this free show is primarily supported out of my own pocket and a small portion is covered through the donations on Patreon. It’s not often that you meet someone like Steph Gaudreau. After leaving a comfy job teaching high school science to pursue her passions in health and fitness, she’s one of the rare individuals who set out to reinvent themselves after you’d think that it was too late. That’s the big issue. It’s the thinking involved that hinders so many of us. Steph didn’t make the leap without having fear. She didn’t take a huge risk knowing exactly what was going to happen. Fear was there, uncertainty was there, but she made the decision to do it anyway. All of the changes in our lives start with a decision. It’s up to us to take control of our thinking and make the necessary adjustments we want to see in our lives. Whether it’s in our health, career, relationships, or anything else, it’s within our power to make the shifts necessary. And one of the interesting things Steph believes is that getting physically strong will make you mentally strong as well. Today you’re going to learn exactly what she means by that plus a whole lot more. Steph runs several powerhouse health and fitness platforms. She created the ridiculously popular website StupidEasyPaleo.com where she shares recipes and other health-related info, she’s a bestselling author, and she also runs the the chart-topping podcast Harder to Kill Radio. Today you’re going to hear about Steph’s story and how she made the transition from the conventional classroom to teaching online (and all over the world). You’re also going to learn some of the key insights that has enabled Steph to be so successful in helping other people, as well what her person fitness regimen looks like so you can see what keeps her fit, strong, and huge inspiration to others. In this episode you'll discover: What drove Steph Gaudreau to leave her 10+ year job as a science teacher to start a solo career promoting health and fitness. How certain body types lend themselves towards better performance in certain sports. Why Steph no longer obsesses about the way her body looks (this is powerful!) How doing what you love will help to change your inner dialogue/inner critic. Why your body’s form will follow the function that’s required of it. Why the exercise that you do transfers over into other areas of your life. How your personality gains strength through lifting weights. What crazy good numbers Steph has achieved on her favorite power lifts. Why deadlifting is important for reversing and preventing back problems. How Steph’s exercise program has changed over time and what it looks like today. Why being “harder to kill” is a compelling drive to get healthier. Why food is a “gateway” to a healthier overall lifestyle. Items mentioned in this episode include: Onnit.com/Model

Stephanie Trick “has come to practically dominate the stride piano field,” notes reviewer Jack Rummel. Harlem stride piano, which developed in the 1920s and ‘30s, is an orchestral style of two handed piano playing that not only swings, but is also technically demanding and exciting to watch. Louis Mazetier, a respected interpreter of this genre, writes in the Bulletin of the Hot Club of France that she has “won the esteem of specialists in the genre with wonderful interpretations of stride classics.” Stephanie frequently performs with her husband, acclaimed pianist Paolo Alderighi, making arrangements of songs from the Swing Era in a four-hands piano duo. In 2014, they played for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. Stephanie was the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Kobe-Breda Jazz Friendship Award, and has performed in many parts of the United States as well as in Europe in a variety of venues.
