Lance reviews a recent report about generational wealth transfers, and notes that his kids get NOTHING. Wednesday's CPI report was seemingly the last hurdle for the Fed to cut interest rates. With the CPI index matching Wall Street forecasts, the Fed Funds futures market now implies a 97% chance the Fed will cut rates next Wednesday. The data was OK but elicits fears that the downward price progress has stalled. Lance & Michael discuss the precarious premise behind Microsystem's Bitcoin strategy, what makes for value, and what happens when there's no more buyers. How did the Hunt Brothers' silver gambit differ from Microsystems Bitcoin bid? CPI Recap: Inflation is sticky at current levels because that's where the growth is. Plowing through the final, lame duck weeks of the Biden presidency; there are still some Federal Covid Stimulus funds to be distributed to states, keeping inflation fires stoked. What's happening with Canada and the rest of the world? Economic growth attracts capital; next year may hold surprises for the bullish crowd. Bitcoin is the epitome of The Greater Fool Theory. In this episode of the Pizza Marketplace Podcast, host Mandy Detwiler, editor of Pizza Marketplace, talks to Brandon Hunt and Zane Hunt, brothers who launched Via 313 in Austin, Texas.Zane said he and his brother were raised in the Detroit, and grew up eating square pizza, now known as Detroit-style pizza."You thinking about where we're at right now in 2024 with the hyper gentrification of pizza," he said. "Back then, there was just round and square pizza. Round pizza could have been a number of different things. Square pizza could have been a number of different things, whether its was a sheet-pan pizza from an Italian bakery or Grandma-style pizza, and then we had Detroit with the caramelized edges."It took the brothers traveling to different parts of the country to realize that they were fortunate to have different styles of pizza in Detroit.Zane moved to Austin in 2009 with his wife and kids and sought out pizza like he had at home "and we realized quickly it didn't exist," he said.Zane and Brandon began examining what it would look like if they started their own pizza brand in Austin. They wanted to bring Detroit-style pizza to Austin, and used a recipe they were both comfortable with. It took almost two years to open their first location, a pizza trailer.Brandon said what sets Via 313 is now focused on consistency and service. Though they won't compare their pizza to other Detroit-style brands, they instead focus on the customer and efficiency."Service was a thing that could separate us," Brandon said. "You really can't debate whether service is good or not or if we're the best at service. That's not debatable. That's really important to us."To listen to the podcast in its entirety, click the arrow above.

Darren Dochuk's book Anointed With Oil: How Christianity and Crude Made Modern America has been out a couple of years. But I must confess that I discovered it only recently, and it has changed my perspective about a lot things I thought I knew about modern American Evangelicalism. As you will hear, he outlines how modern Protestantism split in the early 20th century into liberal and conservative factions. The liberal stream was made up mostly of the mainline protestant churches, and the conservative stream became what we know today is evangelicalism. However, what Dockuk adds to this conversation is an analysis of how both streams got funded -- by oil millionaires such as John D. Rockefeller on the left and J. Howard Pew and the Hunt Brothers on the right. He has caused me to believe that without these men and a very few others who funded their religious impulses, modern American religious life would look very different than it does today. Darren Dochuk is a professor of history at the University of Notre Dame, and his previous works include From Bible Belt to Sunbelt, a history of the rise of evangelical conservatism. That book won the John H. Dunning Prize from the American Historical Association. Darren Dochuk spoke to me from his office in South Bend, Indiana. I hope you'll join me again on Friday when I'm joined by Natasha Cowden for our discussion of the week's news. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Until next time, may God bless you!

Tom Bodrovics, welcomes back Don Durrett, an experienced author, investor, and founder of Goldstockdata.com, to discuss gold prices and the economic implications. Durrett believes an imminent hard economic landing will boost his bullish stance on gold. In March 2023, gold reached new highs above $2050, while silver showed significant gains. However, miners have not followed suit. Durrett considers the present economic climate different from previous periods due to the Federal Reserve's reduced ability to revive the economy. He highlights that while the US economy grew and used debt in the 1990s, it eventually balanced its budget. However, since then, the US economy has reportedly been declining for approximately 25 years, leading to significant global shifts like countries abandoning US bonds and equities and increasing interest in gold as a reserve currency. Japan's bond and currency struggles could potentially trigger a crisis due to their substantial US treasury holdings. Durrett discusses the potential impact of Asian countries purchasing gold and the importance of oil purchases in gold-importing countries like Japan and China. Don expresses bearish views on the stock market and bullish predictions for silver prices due to inventory shortages, increasing demand, and potential manipulation attempts like those seen with the Hunt Brothers in the past. Don shares his perspective on gold miners using the HUI index to identify buying and selling opportunities. He considers anything below $250 on the HUI cheap, with levels between $200 and $225 being the buy zone. Opportunities for cheaper stocks extend from $225 to $250. However, as the HUI approaches $300, fewer cheap stocks become available. He anticipates the gold miners' bull market hasn't started yet but expects it to resume in the next couple of months and predicts a potential dip in gold and silver prices before the significant uptrend begins. The summer may not be as uneventful this year due to potential rapid market movements once risk-on sentiment shifts to risk-off. Don has been successful with mid-tier producers some of which have seen substantial growth through acquisitions. He also discusses his investment strategy, holding stocks amidst potential economic downturns, diversification through various investments such as silver, crypto, and physical preparation by selling to the top. He also mentions the unsustainability of constant wars due to increasing budget deficits, implying that peace may prevail as America retreats from its aggressive role on the global stage. What if January 6th was... all about gold? Sure, it sounds improbable at first, but since last year, Dave has been digging into the improbable backstory that got us here. From goldbugs to the "I AM" cult to libertarianism, crypto, and QAnon, this story has it all. In Part 1, Dave and Jack covered the origins of goldbuggery, from the New Deal to the Reagan era. In this episode, they cover the 1990's to today, and make some startling connections along the way. Dave reads the second half of "Paranoia on Parade: How Goldbugs, Libertarians and Religious Extremists Brought America to the Brink" and discusses it in real-time with film director Jack Bryan, (Active Measures, 2018). They cover topics that couldn't fit into the article, and help explain the wild story behind the obsessions that helped lead us to January 6th and Putin's war in Ukraine. Tom welcomes back Jeff Clark of GoldSilver.com to the show. Jeff discusses his recent article on silver in which he compares silver to other asset classes' performance since 1980. Silver and sugar are the only ones that remain below their 1980 peak. Everything else today is overvalued and this will change when the mainstream returns to this market. He says, "Focus on what you can control." Jeff explains why the Hunt Brothers had a minimal effect on the silver market in the 80s. This was a time when everything was responding to monetary events as every asset was rising in price. Gold and silver are money because they hold their value for centuries. In contrast, just consider the loss of purchasing power of the dollar since the year 2000. Jeff estimates that the 1980 silver price adjusted for inflation should be in the $250 range. History shows that silver is often stagnant for two to three year periods but then the price rapidly spikes higher. We don't know precisely when but another spike is inevitable. Jeff prefers to have physical possession of metals since the possibility of a massive economic catastrophe will persist. It's best to avoid counterparty risks. Mining stocks are more of a leverage play on metals but one should be aware of the risks. Miners remain underappreciated and overlooked due to the prices of underlying metals. This is one area where there remains an excellent opportunity for investors. Most metal investors were skeptical of the transitory inflation narrative. Now the Fed has abandoned that theory and is anticipating more persistent inflation. There is also evidence that we could move into a deflationary or stagflationary environment for a time. When the next crisis hits gold will fulfill its primary function of preserving wealth. Jeff explains the importance of visiting mining sites and speaking directly with management. This can be very constructive for determining the quality of potential investments. Lastly, he provides some tips for evaluating drill results. Tom welcomes an experienced commodity broker and veteran of the futures business Jim Hunter. Jim has 35 years of experience in the industry. Jim begins by explaining how futures markets function and defines many of the terms involved in these markets. Then, Jim describes how longs and shorts operate in futures, along with options, hedging, and how the delivery process. There used to be numerous exchanges, but today with modern technology, many have been consolidated into a few exchanges. Many in North American are operated by the CME Group or the Chicago Board of Trade. There are three different types of traders, with the largest being bullion banks. These banks have supply and contracts with mines or suppliers that they need to sell. They tend to be short because they are delivering and hedging metal for profit. Another large long trader might be a car company or a green energy company. Again, these might need metal and might regularly take possession by going long for manufacturing. Lastly, are the speculators of various from large hedge funds to small investors who may take either position long or short. Margin requirements are important and they change based on market volatility and risk. As prices for a commodity rise, the margin risks increase, and thus these requirements must increase. Margins are a function of recent volatility in the market and are necessary to ensure that a contracts counterparty gets paid. Jim explains instances where manipulation has occurred in these futures markets. He gives an example with the Hunt Brothers and why changes in the rules unfairly cost them their positions. There have been other times when rules have changed at unusual times, resulting in unfair fluctuations in the markets in which various parties could benefit. Jim doesn't find the idea of extra paper claims to have any basis. Total open interest has nothing to do with the commodities in the warehouse or vault. He argues the number of contracts has no bearing on the delivery process. The Wall Street Reddit Movement attempted to cause a short squeeze on the silver futures market. The movement was able to get prices to rise back in February for a brief period. Short squeezes are the wrong term for these, as it would take a lot more demand to deplete the available supply. Higher prices tend to bring more supply to the market. Silver does have a lot higher to move as he considers it undervalued based on the amount of global money printing. In addition, several countries are buying gold. Silver is an excellent savings account, and you can make money if you hold it. Jeffrey Christian: Physical Demand will Drive the Silver Market

Tom welcomes Jeffrey Christian Managing Partner of the CPM Group to the show. Jeffrey explains the role of the CPM Group and its beginnings some 35 years ago. Jeff moved from journalism to commodity trading in 1980. He explains why secrecy is essential and expected in the precious metals business and why much of it is unregulated. Much of the business has no requirements to disclose their holdings or operational details from fabrication to investment. In 1986, the CPM Group spun off from Goldman Sachs as an independent research company. They had a lot of first-hand knowledge of how the markets worked and used that to leverage their connections and experience. He says, "They are not beholden to the banks as bullion banks represent less than one percent of their business." He says, "We skew the table in favor of users or consumers of financial transactions." Banks don't necessarily like us because we compete with them by providing research and consulting to mining companies. They help companies structure agreements and negotiate with banks, but they don't fulfill these contracts. Interest rates and debt are major factors for growth and recessions. There are massive imbalances that have only worsened since 2008, and the pandemic has not helped. Regulatory reforms haven't protected the financial structure from shocks. Jeffrey expects a failure in an obscure area of the debt market, which will cascade. Stock markets used to be places where companies raised capital and provided dividends. Today, many companies are focused on buying back shares instead of investing in themselves. This looks good on the balance sheet and pads the management's earnings, but it impoverishes the rest of the economy. Jeff discusses the overall allocation and annual production of around one billion ounces of the silver market. The mining, refining, and fabricating processes each use hedging to mitigate price risk. There can be upwards of ten transactions during the entire supply chain before creating an end-user device containing silver. Silver grades have been in decline for the last fifteen years. However, this is a sign of improved mining technology and refining capabilities. The increase in price over the past twenty years has allowed mines to remain profitable. We aren't running out of reserves, but it's more a matter of pricing. Jeffrey says deliveries are typical on the commodity exchanges, and it's not unusual to have large delivery months. JP Morgan regularly pulls large quantities of silver. Silver is just another commodity in terms of concentration. Concentrations are due in part to an ever-diminishing number of banks involved in commodity markets. The Hunt Brothers took advantage of the silver market during a period of inflation and deregulation. They felt that silver would rise but did not set out to corner the market. He explains some of the mistakes they made with margins and bonds, including Nelson missing an important margin call by not being in contact with his own office. Futures prices are closely aligned with the wholesale prices in the physical market. Jeff says, "They are very good measures of the equivalent of a thousand ounce bar." The physical markets set the long-term price for metal. High premiums indicate high demand for bars, but price spikes usually indicate supply chain delivery issues. He says, "There is no shortage of physical metal in the markets." He argues that large dumps of contracts onto exchanges are done by multiple parties using similar computer software. This behavior is not isolated to silver markets. Lastly, he explains his thoughts on JP Morgan's fines for spoofing and gives us his predictions on where silver will head between now and this fall. Tom welcomes Lior Gantz back to the show. Lior is the founder and editor of Wealth Research Group. Lior explains the 1980 Hunt Brothers short squeeze and how they managed to corner the silver market by buying up a third of the global supply. The government's solution was to prevent long contracts and forced the Hunt Brothers to sell. Recently, there has been a lot of physical purchasing, which has increased the physical price, but the paper markets have been mostly unaffected. The silver market today is priced incorrectly, and in the next two or three years, it's likely to become one of the best-performing commodities. Gold and silver are beginning to get attention from younger generations, and this will be key. A lot of money has been entering the bond markets, and Lior expects that some of it will move into equities. The dollar will continue to decline, and that US savers will increasingly lose purchasing power. This, coupled with infrastructure deficit spending, and more stimulus, will be bullish for precious metals. Mining development and exploration have been slow due to a lack of capital, and when prices rise, it will still take several years for production to increase. He argues that the probability of hyperinflation is quite low. The US dollar will continue to operate until other global forces delegitimize its status. The dollar is still used in about sixty percent of all global transactions, so it will continue to be dominant. We may see significant investment interest and big moves in silver equities when a clear breakout occurs in the Silver/Gold ratio. He provides some key price targets for silver and believes we will take out the all-time high for gold this year. Almost all commodities are in annual production deficits due to under investment during the past decade in commodities. There is an arms race for these commodities in the world, and this is what will lead them higher. Here's what was going on behind the scenes at the brokerages, why silver is not like GameStop, and why it's important to learn the lessons from the Hunt Brothers' experiences of 40-years ago. - Chief Investment Strategist Lance Roberts -------- Articles mentioned in this podcast: https://realinvestmentadvice.com/the-fed-zombies-the-pathway-to-japanification/ https://realinvestmentadvice.com/macroview-2021-a-disappointment-of-growth-and-disinflation/ -------- Get more info & commentary: -------- SUBSCRIBE to The Real Investment Show here: -------- Register for the next Retirement Right Lane class: -------- Visit our Site: www.realinvestmentadvice.com Contact Us: 1-855-RIA-PLAN -------- Subscribe to RIA Pro: -------- Connect with us on social: https://twitter.com/RealInvAdvice https://twitter.com/LanceRoberts https://www.facebook.com/RealInvestmentAdvice/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/realinvestmentadvice/ #Stocks #Money #Finance

1. Gamestop (GME) & AMC Entertainment (AMC) are the talk of the town right now. Yesterday, the popular brokerage firm, Robinhood, restricted trading in GME, AMC and a bunch of other highly shorted stocks. This news caused a major drop in GME stock yesterday. Then before the closing bell yesterday, Robinhood announced that they would allow GME and others to trade again. Earnings from FB, Apple, etc. Weekly expiration. Everything is on the table. It amazes me that Robinhood and Gamestop are the names that are involved here in this Wall Street drama. Personally, the brokerage firms should just let these stocks trade and let price go where they will, but there are obviously some big players (hedge funds) and select brokerage firms that are in trouble here. It’s all about the brokers. That is why so many people of importance are stepping in. Where are the hedges on their portfolios? Do they exist. Very similar to Hunt Brothers in 1980. The Treasury, The Fed and Wall Street. Naked shorts are most vulnerable. Who will be left to pay the margin calls. 2. Gold/Silver nice pop in gold futures 1%, silver futures up 5%. All the great moves in the market came during short squeezes, built-in demand. Will it happen for precious metal. It’s a new era.3. What will be the next Gamestop? Time to cash in on these stocks.

Tom welcomes journalist Stuart Englert to the program to discuss his book "Rigged: Exposing the Largest Financial Fraud in History." Stuart became interested in GATA's writings after learning about the economic imbalances in the United States. He used GATA's research in the writing of his book. Stuart breaks down the US's economic history over the 20th century and all of the pivotal events. There have been several crucial moments starting in 1933 with the decision to make ownership of gold illegal. He outlines the impact of the Exchange Stabilization Act and the Silver Purchase Act and how this led to increasing market manipulation. Stuart discusses the various ways that metals are manipulated, much of which is done thru paper trading. The Comex casino can change the rules whenever they like, as they did with the Hunt Brothers, and they can force you out of their game. He says, "JP Morgan has long been an agent and partner of the US government.. and fines are just a part of doing business." Stuart believes that silver may bring the whole system down due to its limited supply and increasing industrial demand. Lastly, he explains how SDR's work as an international standard and how currently it's based on a composite of five leading currencies. Tom welcomes a returning guest Nick Giambruno. Nick is Chief Analyst of The Casey Report and their premium advisory, Crisis Investing. Nick discusses the meaning of "Hard Assets" and which assets qualify. There are key characteristics that make gold the best money, and other assets like silver and bitcoin share many of those features. Bitcoin fits this definition because it's scarce, and its supply growth is similar to that of gold, gradually declining. Measuring value with the dollar is difficult since it continuously loses value. It's easier to measure value when items are priced relative to a quantity of gold. Nick argues markets should be allowed to set the relative monetary value of silver to gold instead of governments setting an arbitrary ratio. Today, silver is becoming more of an industrial metal than a monetary one. Silver is more volatile than gold, and he cautions that higher prices can bring higher supply reasonably quickly. His interest in gold is because fundamentally, its considered money and because it acts protection from the policies of governments. People today do not understand numbers like trillions, and today we are getting into unprecedented dangerous territory. He expects golds performance over the coming years to match or exceed the percentage returns of previous bull runs. Time Stamp References:0:40 - Understanding "Hard Money"6:20 - Gold in real terms.8:50 - Gold to Silver historic ratio.11:00 - Why gold is foremost real money.12:45 - Hunt Brothers and silver.16:05 - Silver production and recycling.16:55 - Silver as an inflation hedge.17:50 - Biggest PM bull market in history.21:55 - Wealth Taxes and Negative Interest Rates24:00 - Diversifying political risk.
