Join the continuation of Kristel's pursuit of her ultimate truth as she shares her testimony and biggest revelations discovered from her fast. How do we deal with conflicting beliefs? Where do we find our truths? And is it possible for more than one truth to exist? Tune in as Kristel dives deep into these topics and more in this episode. So if you are feeling lost or in doubt of yourself or what you believe in, know that you are not alone! Start your own path to finding your personal truth with Kristel today. KEY POINTS / MAIN TAKEAWAYS: The importance of speaking and standing in your truth. Navigating differences in everybody's truth. What do you do with the truths that don't serve you? The text message that impacted Kristel. Where do you find your truth? The key to real intimacy with your loved ones. QUOTABLES: “If Christ is the truth, and if everybody's truth looks differently, then is it possible that Christ can show up in our lives differently?” “The only place to find the truth is inside of you. And you need to block out all of the distractions from everything and everybody and go within for a while.” Text message I mentioned in the episode from my karate sensei who I love, respect: Kristel, I have been thinking about you and what little I know of your struggles, I can relate and extrapolate where your coming from.. In my mind, Patriarchal Christianity very often is driven by women. I think the un-talked about piece is fear of liberation. Freedom is scary for those who only know what it feels like to be controlled. Seems to me, you have journeyed through liberation in a myriad of areas in your own personal life and want to share in the new found freedom with others, problem is so many people, male/female alike, they just ain't ready! People fear change because it requires responsibility, responsibility requires confidence and many, many people run around this earth with a very serious emotional disease, they misconstrue confidence and pull confidence from some really interesting spaces. It's falsified confidence. Those people are usually the biggest proponents resisting change that levels the playing field.... female sexuality in your situation. In essence, your challenging an entire historical system of feminine oppression. Ain't no way in hell, your not going to get push back and harsh criticism! Question is, how convicted are you in your willingness to journey this/these convictions? Be bold. Be unapologetic. How do we discover if we quit the journey? I don't usually give advice. I just advise in my own way through teaching karate, but one thing I feel convicted to say... I heard you say something along the lines of “devil and evil spirits”.... try not to get lost in that lie. Keep in mind God loves justice for ALL his children. We need confident women, convicted of the meaning of justice to be the torch carriers of female liberation. We won't always get it right, but still we fight. We make mistakes physically, spiritually and theoretically, but we don't bend under resistance. We may have to alter a few things, seek guidance... but, your core conviction is your mission statement. I often hear it said, true leaders dare to hope...freeing women from chains is an admirable and necessary mission. Just consider the counter reality, could it be others that fear liberation that are being effected and affected by the other side (fear),not the side of light and truth? It's not you girl. Shine your light so others will follow… Check out “Christian Feminist Liberation Theory”or just plain “liberation theory”. P.S. Not that you asked for my opinion, but one more idea... I don't think it's food you need to fast from... it's social media and conversation. I think you need to “live inside you” for a bit. Life happens with in you, not outside of you. Just my concerns and thoughts... And so when they're doing something that doesn't quite sound right, or you're telling them to call these people and they haven't really made contact with those people yet, if you've got to be a complete and utter asshole to the point where you're cursing people out and making the doctor feel uncomfortable, then that's what you have to do.” 49:28 PRODUCTS / RESOURCES: Follow Gabi on Instagram @gabigirl34 - https://www.instagram.com/gabigirl34/ Visit her website at https://www.gabigarland.com Resilient Heart is edited by Instapodcasts (visit at www.instapodcasts.com)
This academic year, students at predominantly White institutions elected a wave of Black student body presidents. This cohort now finds itself leading in unprecedented times, amid a pandemic and a national reckoning with racism. How are they supporting each other through it? What are they hoping to accomplish this term? What adjustments are they making in response to the ongoing pandemic? In this episode, Diverse's Sara Weissman talks with junior Danielle Geathers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), junior Noah Harris at Harvard University, senior Jason Carroll at Brown University, and senior Naomi Riley at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) about how they, as student body presidents, are responding to the national crises at the moment. Find out what these student body presidents are currently fighting for on their campuses, from reparations to campus policing to the allocation of student resources. Tune in as they share the pressures and struggles of being student body president, as well as their hopes for the many more Black student body presidents to come in the future. KEY POINTS / MAIN TAKEAWAYS: The challenges of being student body president amid a pandemic. Planning adjustments for students in response to COVID-19. The responsibilities that are borne as a Black student body president. Creating an online community and virtual support. What they hope for the next generation of Black student body presidents. QUOTABLES: “For myself, and a lot of students just like me, it was very difficult to both handle all these personal things, while also then trying to advocate and make a change and work within these massive institutions.” “I'm of the belief that there are spaces that police officers should not be in. We can take this example of a mental health situation. One thing that we're currently advocating for right now is for police officers to not be the first responders to mental crises. So in working with our psychological services, we want to make sure that it is a trained mental health professional who arrives at the scene” PRODUCTS / RESOURCES: A Wave of Black Student Body Presidents Enter Office Amid COVID-19, Racial Injustice Crises - read the article here: https://diverseeducation.com/article/108309 Visit the Diverse: Issues In Higher Education website: https://diverseeducation.com/ Or follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/diverseissues Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diverseissuesinhighereducation/ Facebook: https://web.facebook.com/DiverseJobs?_rdc=1&_rdr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/diverse-issues-in-higher-education/
