Tank, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. He began his career as a backing vocalist for R&B singers Aaliyah and Ginuwine, and signed a recording contract with the former's record label, Blackground Records as a performing act in 1998. His 2001 single, "Maybe I Deserve" peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and led his debut studio album, Force of Nature (2001). It peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200, while his second album, One Man (2002), peaked within the top 20 and was met with mixed critical reception. Following a five-year hiatus, he entered a joint venture with Motown to release his third album, Sex, Love & Pain (2007). Met with his furthest commercial success, it peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and was preceded by the Billboard Hot 100-top 50 single, "Please Don't Go". He parted ways with the labels in favor of Atlantic Records to release his following albums: Now or Never (2010), This Is How I Feel (2012), Stronger (2014), Sex, Love & Pain II (2014), and Savage (2017), the latter of which spawned the platinum-certified single "When We". Following his ninth album Elevation (2019), his tenth album, R&B Money (2022) was announced as his final due to hearing loss in his right ear, which hampered his musical ability.[3] In 2007, he formed the R&B trio TGT with contemporaries Ginuwine and Tyrese, with whom he released one studio album (2013). Along with recording, Tank has been credited with songwriting and production for other artists including Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, Monica, Jamie Foxx, Omarion, LeToya Luckett, NLT, and KeKe Wyatt. His other ventures include his record label R&B Money, which has signed frequent collaborator J. Valentine; the two began hosting a namesake podcast in 2022, which enlists prominent figures in the genre as guests. Tank has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and his podcast was nominated for Best Work of Music Journalism - Multimedia at the 2023 International Music Journalism Awards. Amanda kicks the episode sharing why black models have boycotted Melbourne Fashion Week due to instances of racism and underpayment. Amanda introduces a new segment called "Voting and Venting," aiming to address voter apathy in the Black community and restore belief in the political system by providing historical knowledge and current information. She discusses recent headlines, from the reopening of areas in West Maui following wildfires to the end of criminal prosecutions in the Flint Water Crisis, and Magic Johnson becoming a billionaire. In Blackurate News, Amanda highlights Bowie State University's initiative to offer inmates in Maryland the opportunity to earn degrees while incarcerated,  The episode explores Khia's comments on the new class of female rappers, and Seales tests your knowledge with her Black Pop Quiz segment. Listen, Laugh, and Learn with The Amanda Seales Show FOLLOW ALONG AS WE COVER:   (4:07) - Black models boycotted Melbourne Fashion Week due to racism in Australian fashion industry. The models shared that they've seen staff use racial slurs in front of them, and hairdressers are not shy when it comes to making derogatory and degrading comments about their hair. Two models said they discovered they were grossly underpaid compared to their white counterparts.   (7:47) - It's the Amanda Seales Show, I'm Amanda Seales… And now it's time for a segment, we're calling “Voting and Venting."   Voter apathy is a serious issue in the Black community for numerous reasons, like, ya know, voter disenfranchisement! But I personally believe that with more historical knowledge and current information, our belief in the political system can be restored. In this segment, we're gonna vent a little, but also weigh in on some important voting matters with experts.   (11:04) - 60 Second Headlines   Story 1: Today areas of West Maui will reopen to tourism following the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century.   Story 2: More than two months after white boaters attacked a Black riverboat captain in Montgomery, Ala., two of the five people charged in the Alabama Brawl have pleaded guilty.   Story 3: The next installment of National Geographic's GENIUS franchise will focus on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and how their dueling philosophies helped usher America through the Civil Rights Movement. The eight-part series “Genius: MLK/X” will premiere in February on the National Geographic channel.   Story 4: The Michigan Attorney General's Office is officially ending its pursuit of criminal prosecutions over the Flint Water Crisis after 7 years of no convictions. The Flint prosecution team says the cases are now closed.   Story 5: According to Forbes…Magic Johnson is officially a billionaire, becoming the fourth athlete to earn that title.   (13:35) - We'll go to the phone lines – 1 855 262 6328.   (16:44) - Coming up this hour in Blackurate News: One HBCU is stepping up in the lives of inmates. We'll tell you how. That's not my ministry with Rita Brent plus, today's Big Up/Let Down starring Lauryn Hill and a former NBA basketball player.   (18:30) - Bowie State University is the first HBCU to offer Maryland inmates the opportunity to complete study courses. Students can get their degree while behind bars, all thanks to a partnership between Bowie State and Jessup Correctional Institute. Since the initiative launched this year, seven men who are studying to obtain either a bachelor's degree or Entrepreneurship certificate have completed their first semester.   (21:57) - That's not my ministry with Rita Brent.   (26:00) - Big Up - Goes to Lauryn Hill's fans for sticking beside her! Recently announced she is postponing her Fort Worth Tour Date To “Rest The Voice” due to vocal strain. She's had a history of showing up late to shows and performing for a brief time. Fans continue to buy tickets, support, and root her on. Side note: Beyonce did 50-11 shows domestically and internationally, while being a mom, dancing hard AF, dropping a perfume line, and didn't complain about vocal or body strain. Maybe Lauryn needs to be on her diet OR let the crowd sing the lyrics.   Let Down - To Joe Smith and his wife for doing a live advertisement on Twitter, thinking we wouldn't figure it out! His longtime partner posted a video of him reacting in real time to her saying she has an Only Fans account. She continued to record him despite his visible anger; it all bordered disrespect for the sake of clout.   (29:29) - We'll go to the phone lines.   (31:42) - Coming up this hour… Khia says she isn't like the new rap girls. Letoya Luckett will join us for “Back of the Class”. While a lot of people encourage main character energy, can it be detrimental to your friends or family who feed into it? Often times when you are the main one being celebrated or who hold the spotlight, it's easy to treat those who are around you like they're replaceable. What are your thoughts? Do you have main character energy? We also pose the question of if adult love should be unconditional or not. Can you truly love someone without conditions and can you unconditionally love someone who conditionally loves you? This one had us speechless, so let us know your thoughts in the comments below. We close out with a reaction to Letoya Luckett saying she will put her kids before her man in her next marriage. Ladies and gents, what are your thoughts on this? In the first of four episodes in our new series covering the work and career of pop titan Beyoncé, DJ Louie is joined by Senior Writer at Rolling Stone, Brittany Spanos, to discuss the group that started it all: Destiny's Child.  Louie and Brittany begin with a broad history of black R&B girl groups, specifically the ‘90s wave of which DC was a part, and the ever-evolving way black women have presented themselves in the pop space. They then discuss Beyoncé's early life, how she and her father Mathew Knowles helped form Destiny's Child with the initial lineup including Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and Letoya Luckett, their 1998 self-titled debut and it's surprise #3 hit, the remix of their ballad “No No No”, “No No No Pt. 2” featuring Wyclef Jean which showcased Beyoncé's signature singing-rapping hybrid. Next, they dive into their smash sophomore album, 1999's The Writing's on the Wall and its innovative singles, all of which featured the groups virtuosic harmonies, a sharp pop feminist perspective that often traded in the role money plays in gender dynamics, and futuristic staccato R&B production courtesy Darkchild and others, before diving into all the tea on how, at the peak of their success, the initial line-up very messily and publicly gave way to a new trio: Beyoncé, Kelly and new member Michelle Williams. Louie and Brittany then cover DC's blockbuster third album, largely an answer to the negative press of the group shake-ups, 2001's Survivor and its attendant hits, the member's various solo endeavors, and how Beyoncé returned to the group following her solo success for one final chapter, 2004's Destiny Fulfilled. Finally, Louie and Brittany rank Destiny's Child in the official Pop Pantheon.Stay tuned next week for our next episode, Beyoncé Pt. 1, which will cover the first half of Beyoncé's solo career from 2003's Dangerously in Love through 2011's 4!Tickets to see Louie DJ Pop Music at Gorgeous Gorgeous 7/16 in DTLA!Check out Louie's Destiny's Child Essentials Playlist on SpotifyJoin the Pop Pantheon Discord!Follow DJ Louie XIV on InstagramFollow DJ Louie XIV on TwitterFollow Pop Pantheon on InstagramFollow Pop Pantheon on TwitterFollow Brittany Spanos on TwitterCheck out Main Pod Girl with AJ and Sola on Apple, Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts
