I will talk to people involved in the making of the song – the children who sang in the choir, the producer and I'll even speak to Lindow Man himself! How will I speak to someone who has been dead for 2000 years? Tune in and find out. To hear the song go to:"Lindow Man, We Want You Back Again" - The Complete Campaign Song (1987) Starting on February 15th comes The Bloke From the Bog – The Lindow Man Investigation. Exploring the way we can conjure the dead back to life through pop songs, children's choirs and cool T-shirts.

Recently in The Guardian, Emma Beddington covered a new twist on an old practice. According to the 2022 U.K. census, writes Beddington, “74,000 people declared they were pagan, an increase of 17,000 since 2011.” Meanwhile in the U.S., “a 2014 survey by the Pew Research Center estimated at least 0.3% of people... identified as pagan or Wiccan, which translates to about one million people.” And, though it's not clear how anyone could know this, “That number is expected to triple by 2050.” Those numbers, while a small minority of the population, are significant when set against the overall decline of Christianity in the West. According to British historian Dr. Ronald Hutton, today's version of paganism is “a religion in which deities don't make rules for humans or monitor their behaviour—humans are encouraged to develop their full potential.” This comes with a heavy emphasis on being Earth-conscious, with rituals and festivals focused on connecting with nature. In this way, suggests Hutton, paganism is filling “a need for a spiritualised natural world in a time of ecological crisis.” Beddington describes the new paganism as a “tolerant, open, life-affirming, female-friendly faith.” It does seem to check all the right contemporary Western boxes: a feeling of transcendence without many hard commitments, a rejection of traditional morality while keeping a vague inclusivity, and enough concern for the natural world to qualify as a social justice cause. Or, as a group based out of the University of Massachusetts Amherst summarized: “Pagans view the world as a place of joy and life, not of sin and suffering. We believe that the divine is here with us in the natural world, not in some faraway place in the sky.” At the same time, the new paganism is a world away from ancient paganism. Though often a catch-all term for a wide variety of pre-Christian beliefs, paganism suffers from a shortage of written records. However, what we do know would not be best described as a universe born out of “joy and life, not of sin and suffering.” In Hesiod's Theogony, the Greek version of the origin of the cosmos and the gods, the birth of each divine generation is preceded by violence. Uranus, the sky, produces children with Gaia, the Earth, but hates them. Of their children is the titan Cronus who castrates his father. His blood falls onto the Earth and sea and creates still more gods. Cronus is, in turn, dethroned and imprisoned by Zeus. Celtic paganism does little better. Drawing on contemporary sources, most scholars believe the Druids enacted human sacrifices on a broad scale to appease the forces of nature, which they saw as temperamental and hostile. One example is the Lindow man, whose mangled remains suggest a ritual death as part of cultic sacrifice. Employing St. Augustine's approach to the depravity of pagan gods, writer Paul Krause offered this critique: The pagan gods were born from patricide and rebellion. They were born from primordial acts of sexual violence. Their patronage was in the civitas terrena which cared only to advance its depraved lust to control. Modern pagans reject ancient paganism. They find solidarity with the idea of human equality and dignity, see the natural world as a place of order rather than of chaos, and call for sexual restraint, the protection of children and disadvantaged groups, the end of slavery, mindless conquest, and human sacrifice. To this extent, they are embracing the innovations of Christianity. After all, it was Christianity and not paganism, as historian Tom Holland has explained, that taught that men, women, and children, slave or free, share the imago dei. It was St. Patrick, not the Druids, who believed and taught Ireland that “the Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof” and not subject to hostile spirits who are appeased by bloodletting. It was Christianity that turned Nordic peoples away from a belief system that committed them to conquest, plunder, and death in battle. In short, all the things that make modern paganism appealing to modern people aren't pagan. Though many Westerners are bored by the hollowness of materialism and desperate to fill the spiritual vacuum it has left, they will not find answers in dead religions. Only Jesus offers the truth: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” This Breakpoint was co-authored by Kasey Leander. Scopriamola insieme!Questo show fa parte del network Spreaker Prime. Hey everybody. If you've listened to this podcast before, you've heard us give a shout out or two to Kyle Lindow, Zachary's own doctor of podiatric medicine. Our paths crossed when I went to him for chronic foot pain. On October 21st, 2022, I underwent the lapiplasty procedure, known as the 3D bunionectomy if you're hip. Feet are sort of comical if you think about clowns, ducks, minotaurs—and we all had that one Aunt that kicked her heels off after family dinner and WHOA! Foot paint ain't so funny though, as I experienced on a trip to Disney World with my family this summer. I tell you I could not get from the couch to the kitchen after a long day of walking.Today, we're going to fill you in on how to kick foot pain in 2023 or at least introduce you to someone who can help you out. After Hours Entrepreneur: Your Guide to Profitable, 6-Figure YearsQuit your job.

While his interview will not be available right away, you can check out the rest of the archive at https://go.ncsu.edu/aages. Abstract Arial plant surfaces often harbor large epiphytic bacterial populations. The size and composition of these communities however are determined by both small-scale interactions of bacteria with each other and with their plant host that determine growth and survival, as well as large-scale features such as the proximity and abundance of other plant species that contribute immigrant inoculum. The maximum population size of epiphytic bacteria is limited by Carbon availability on the plant surface and differs among plant species due to the differing amounts of exudates. These Carbon sources and therefore sites of bacterial colonization on plants are spatially heterogeneous, with the majority of bacteria residing in localized sites harboring relatively large, mixed species cellular aggregates. Cell density-dependent behaviors, often modulated by so-called quorum sensing signal molecules facilitate preferential survival of bacteria at such sites during stressful desiccation conditions. WE THINK THAT WE ARE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about our own needs and ourselves! But, more often than not, we are just opinionated and headstrong people! By Mary Lindow through the Holy Spirit WE THINK THAT WE ARE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about our own needs and ourselves! But, more often than not, we are just opinionated and headstrong people! We refuse instructions from anyone who could tell us about the deeper things of the spirit, because “We know”, or… “Don't want to know!” (How DARE you address this Mrs. Lindow)!!! Hmmmm! I think I will continue!! **smile** We stumble along without anyone's help, and all the while we are overlooking that gnawing, “unsettled sense” inside of us, though if we paid attention to this we would see our true inner condition. It is in this way that we acclimate our souls to straggle along in a dark spiritual wilderness, and how we do ourselves so much harm. MANY, MANY OTHER CHRISTIAN SOULS ARE JUST LIKE THIS. They don't know how to do anything other than let their human senses guide them, and then one day, God intervenes. He arranges things so that one day when you are all alone, there will heave from within your heart a sudden surprising awareness of absolute emptiness. He may also cause you to have a feeling of complete emptiness, but an overwhelming sense of isolation from others, and a lot of loss. “All of a person's ways seem right in his own opinion, But the LORD evaluates the motives.” -Proverbs 21:2 You see, there is nothing but a bottomless crater to look down into the deadness of our own souls if we are not fully committed to God. If you ever come to this place you will know how quickly your soul wants to run away and to rush to find something, anything at all, to "fill" itself up again with noise and activity. Art! Food! Beautiful Clothing! The doing of generous deeds! Perfectionistic exercising and self-improvement to show your “Self” discipline! After all... PEOPLE are watching! The reality of this is, So Is God. VERY FEW SEE THIS BLEAK MOMENT FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS. It's a chance to see their need for something that is beyond themselves. But my friend, this can be a moment where the soul can cross over from its own empty silence into an expected quiet that is alive with His presence. It silences the anguish, the anxious restlessness into a calm and still place of peace. It's as if the soul finds that in this dark place, there is secret well of sweet water, and it springs up and overflows with light and life. Learning to pass into this place of the Spirit and allowing God to keep your soul in refreshing silent tranquility is a true act of the maturing believer. ALL OF YOUR FLESHY SOUL WILL WANT TO RADICALLY FIGHT THIS, and it will do so by trying to analyze what's happening! All of this kind of behavior will just weigh you down, and it'll pull you back from walking in the spirit, to walking simply in your own understanding. The choice we all must make is encapsulated in this statement made by John the Baptist. “He must increase, but I must decrease.” -John 3:30 Another translation of this verse says it even more plainly. “He must become more important while I become less important." WHEW! HEAVEN CAN BE ENTERED ONLY THROUGH THE NARROW GATE! The pathway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide enough for all the multitudes that choose its easy way. But the Gateway to Life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it. –Matthew 7:13-14 THE WORD “WAY” TRANSLATED FROM THE GREEK WORD HODÓS LITERALLY MEANS “A NATURAL ROAD OR TRAVELED WAY”. It refers to a way of life or a way of thinking. The word is used six times in the book of Acts as a substitute for Christianity itself. We can quickly understand that the Christian faith is more than a one-time decision to accept Christ. It is a faith, which alters the very course of a life. THE WORD “NARROW” COMES FROM THE GREEK VERB THLÍBO, WHICH MEANS TO PRESS OR CRUSH AS A WORKER IN A VINEYARD MIGHT CRUSH GRAPES OR A CROWD OF PEOPLE MIGHT PRESS AGAINST ONE ANOTHER. This word also means to experience trouble, difficulty, or affliction. COMBINED WITH THE GREEK WORD HODÓS, IT INSINUATES A SQUEEZED, STRAITENED, OR NARROWING PATHWAY. The cramped condition of the path seems to imply two valuable truths about the nature of the Christian life. It is a way marked out by the will of God, and it is a way marked by difficulty and struggle. Remember, when your soul discovers how to let the Holy Spirit bring it into this place of inner peace of learning to rest in this stillness, it's only because God is carrying you in his arms and that you sense no toil or drive on your part. Friends, this accomplishes much more than all of your own actions or works of performance, since God Himself, is at work inside of you. “I am confident that the Creator, who has begun such a great work in you, will not stop in mid-design but will keep perfecting you until the day Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King, returns to redeem the world.” -Philippians 1:6 (The Voice) IF WE FACE “THE NARROWING”, THE CHALLENGE OF ALLOWING OUR SOUL, OUR FLESH, TO BE FULLY HANDED OVER TO GOD'S PATHWAY, HE WILL TEACH OUR SOUL HOW TO OVERCOME THREE OF THE MOST TOXIC OF SINS. These sins are - Anger, Envy, and, an unwillingness to obey the Lord. These run wild through our stony and hardened hearts and they eventually can crumble and ruin us. YOU SEE, OUR SOULS DESIRE TO FIND COMPLETE HAPPINESS, BLISS, CONSOLATION AND SECURITY IN THIS WORLD, AND THIS CAN NEVER REALLY HAPPEN! So, God has to show us our great darkness when our soul tries to find spiritual strength there, because there is no sweet and vibrant life when our soul is attached to the things of this world! It's a wide and gregarious path in the world, and the crowds on the pathway adore gratification and pleasure of every sort. Our souls have a natural demand for wanting our own pleasure and achievement, and frustration causes these sins to grow, and they bring the very ugly fruit that is produced from them right into the light! OUCH! THE LORD ALLOWS HIS TOOL OF DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES TO CRUSH AND TO CRACK OUR HARD SOULS. He plants His word of light deep into our darkness. And He pours the living water of His spirit on our dryness and then we soften, as he uproots our old sluggish ways and our complaining about obeying God. Meaning, having to pass up our soothing comforts and pleasures. NOW, I URGE YOU TO QUIET THE COMPLAINING OF YOUR SOUL, WITH ITS REBELLIONS. We will naturally want to turn back to its pleasure and demands! But as the world goes further and further into broad deviations of every kind, you as a believer will face a fork in the road. One of the most cunning temptations of the times that we live in right now for believers is the mindset that says, “I'm not going to get into any trouble! I can handle things as a Christian just fine! I wont actually “touch the fire” I'll just play around it!” WHAT IS THAT FIRE? It's justifying and adapting God's often narrow and absolute instructions about relationships, marriage, sex, self-indulgence, arrogance, “harmless" Occult involvement and lording over those whom you feel are less astute or affluent as you. GOD WILL AND HE MUST BRING THIS DRYNESS OUT OF OUR SOULS AND KILL THESE DEADLY ROOTS! Quiet the pathetic demands of your soul for soothing comforts and a right to be angry and judgmental! When your path seems empty and silent and desert dry, put your soul's concentration on God alone. You can hardly imagine the harvest of a lasting joy that comes to you, when you learn to be free of your soul's whining. It's there that God can speak quiet words! They will be so sweet and tender, and he will speak of his great love to us. KNOW THIS. DRYNESS WILL TRY TO COME AGAIN AND AGAIN. It wants to lead you to self-justification and an easy escape from the hammer and chisel of God shaping your being, turning it into a reservoir for His purposes. It will try to come back with greater strength each time you resist. So stand your ground and stand firm in the quietness of your brokenness. Focus upon His presence guiding you down the narrowing path. He will come to you and His fresh guidance will be more amazing than anything your natural mind can imagine. A PROPHETIC WORD FROM THE SPIRIT OF GOD FOR THOSE FACING “THE NARROWING PATH” “Darker and broader and louder come the shouts of world to draw you into its intricate webs. These webs of deceit are spun with silken tongues and with the softness of the promise of an easier life. There is a reckoning coming to those that sell lies and imprison those who buy their wares. But for those who are determined to not walk on a fence, trying to balance between their own thinking and me, there will be a “Divine Might” that will empower them to continue down the narrowing way. Where does this narrowing journey lead? What is the payoff at the end? As you become more determined and lay aside the things that have hindered you over and over again from fully entering into the deeper places with me, a lightness and freedom will propel you toward a place of Living Light. That Light is Me, and you will soon know Me in a different way than you have in past years and seasons. My one warning to many is that they cannot argue that the path is “too narrow”. What mankind might call “rigid” I call “Straight and Direct”. If you choose to alter the plans that I have set down for your protection and safety, you will grieve my Spirit and allow a searing of your conscience to override the truths that you know deep in your heart. “The path of those who do right is straight and smooth. I, who am upright, make the way of the righteous level.” -Isaiah 26:7 “The Narrowing” has begun to increase, and the love for it has decreased among those who choose to remain passive to conviction and pure living. Allow my Holy Spirit to move freely again. I know what I must do, to break the constraints of man. Let me move! Are you afraid that I might be ridiculed? Or, are you more concerned for your image and patterns before men? “Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.” -I Thessalonians 5:19-21 Choose the “Narrowing Way”. For I, Am there. Choose the pathway of “rightness” with me, even when others scoff at your “narrow mindedness”. When the days become darker and the world tilts and twists in further unrestrained darkness, You will be the carrier of My Light, which can lead the lukewarm and lost down the narrow, but safe, and integral way, to Me.

Pierce’s Disease is caused by bacteria spread by xylem sucking insects. The bacteria move quickly throughout the vine causing disease which blocks the flow of liquid through the plant. Symptoms of leaf scorching – leaves that are curled and dried up on the edges - show up mid-summer. This pathogen is successful because plant does not recognize that it is there and does not mount a good defense. Steven Lindow, Professor of Plant Pathology at the University of California Berkley is a plant pathologist and microbial ecologist. He and his team are researching other bacteria that can grow in the grapevine that mysteriously sensitize them to the Pierce’s Disease pathogen. Once inoculated with the new bacteria the plant induces its innate immune system to combat Pierces Disease. This process works like a vaccine although the bacteria itself does not cause a direct action. Naturally found in onions, the bacteria can be applied in a spray with a surfactant. Current research indicates that this process will need to be repeated annually. As the EPA considers beneficial bacteria a pesticide, Lindow is pursuing the registration process so this technique can be used commercially. Individuals have often found difficulty in accessing care for mental health and/or substance abuse issues. According to the National Institute of mental health, 1 in 5 adults have a mental health issue. Of those adults with a mental illness, only 42% receive treatment. For adolescents aged 13 – 18, 45% have a mental illness. Substance Abuse also continues to be a problem. According to statistics from the Addiction Center, almost 21 million adults in the US have a Substance Abuse Disorder. Deaths due to overdose have tripled since 1990 and, between 1999 – 2017 over 700,000 Americans have died from a drug overdose. In 2017 34.2 million Americans received a DUI. By Mary Lindow through the Holy Spirit WE THINK THAT WE ARE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about our own needs and ourselves! But, more often than not, we are just opinionated and headstrong people! We refuse instructions from anyone who could tell us about the deeper things of the spirit, because “We know”, or… “Don’t want to know!” (How DARE you address this Mrs. Lindow)!!! Hmmmm! I think I will continue!! **smile** We stumble along without anyone's help, and all the while we are overlooking that gnawing,“unsettled sense” inside of us, though if we paid attention to this we would see our true inner condition. “All of a person's ways seem right in his own opinion, But the LORD evaluates the motives.” Proverbs 21:2 You see, there is nothing but a bottomless crater to look down into the deadness of our own souls if we are not fully committed to God. If you ever come to this place you will know how quickly your soul wants to run away and rush to find something, anything at all, to "fill" itself up again with noise and activity. Art! Food! Beautiful Clothing! The doing of generous deeds! Perfectionistic exercising and self-improvement to show your “Self” discipline! After all... PEOPLE are watching! The reality of this is… So Is God. All of this kind of behavior will just weigh you down and it'll pull you back from walking in the spirit, to walking simply in your own understanding. –Matthew 7:13-14 The word “way” translated from the Greek word hodós literally means a natural road or traveled way. Remember, when your soul discovers how to let the Holy Spirit bring it into this place of inner peace of learning to rest in this stillness, it’s only because God is carrying you in his arms and that you sense no toil or drive on your part. Friends, this accomplishes much more than all of your own actions or works of performance, since God Himself, is at work inside of you. “I am confident that the Creator, who has begun such a great work in you, will not stop in mid-design but will keep perfecting you until the day Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King, returns to redeem the world.” -Philippians 1:6 (The Voice) IF WE FACE “THE NARROWING”, the challenge of allowing our soul, our flesh to be fully handed over to God’s pathway, He will teach our soul how to overcome three of the most toxic of sins. It’s a wide and gregarious path in the world, and the crowds on the pathway adore gratification and pleasure of every sort. I URGE YOU TO QUIET THE COMPLAINING OF YOUR SOUL, with its rebellions. We will naturally want to turn back to its pleasure and demands! But as the world goes further and further into broad deviations of every kind, you as a believer will face a fork in the road. One of the most cunning temptations of the times that we live in right now for believers is the mindset that says, “ I’m not going to get into any trouble! I can handle things as a Christian just fine! I wont actually “touch the fire” I’ll just play around it!” What is that fire? It’s justifying and adapting God’s often narrow and absolute instructions about relationships, marriage, sex, self indulgence, arrogance,“harmless" Occult involvement and lording over those whom you feel are less astute or affluent as you. GOD WILL AND HE MUST BRING THIS DRYNESS OUT OF OUR SOULS and kill these deadly roots! Quiet the pathetic demands of your soul for soothing comforts and a right to be angry and judgmental! When your path seems empty and silent and desert dry, put your soul’s concentration on God alone. You can hardly imagine the harvest of a lasting joy that comes to you when you learn to be free of your soul’s whining. A Prophetic Word Fromthe Spirit of God For Those Facing “The Narrowing” “Darker and broader and louder come the shouts of world to draw you into its intricate webs. As you become more determined and lay aside the things that have hindered you over and overagain from fully entering into the deeper places with me, a lightness and freedom will propel you toward a place of Living Light. Hold on to what is good.” -I Thessalonians 5:19-21 Choose the“Narrowing Way”. For I, Am there. Choose the pathway of rightness with me, even when others scoff at your “narrow mindedness.” When the days become darker and the world tilts and twists in further unrestrained darkness,You will be the carrier of My Light, which can lead the lukewarm and lost down the narrow, but safe, and integral way, to Me. If you suffer from a chronic condition, whether back pain, irritable bowel, arthritic conditions, migraines, thyroid disease, autoimmune diseases, depression and mood disorders, cancer, lyme disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome or chronic pain, or know someone who does, then do we have the show for you. Today we'll be talking with a new instant hero of mine, award winning science journalist Donna Jackson Nakazawa, author of Does Anybody Else Look Like Me, The AutoImmune Epidemic, The Last Best Cure, How You Can Heal, and Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology, Today I want to talk about Childhood Disrupted, how our past can affect our health of today, even 20, 30, or 50 years later. I want to talk about what this really means, what's going on with our bodies, and what in the world we can do about it, beginning today. Questions and Topics Include: How Donna is doing with 4 auto-immune diseases and long-term injuries How her father passed away do to a medical error How she went into a silent year – a year without talking, to get through the childhood trauma And how she began writing How Mrs. Lindow gave her the keys to the teacher's library to help her get through the year – thank you Mrs. Lindow wherever you are. How she began having medical challenges at age 13 How her health conditions changed after having two children What is an ACE and how does it affect children? Why childhood trauma is not what we thought it was How do we get tested for ACE? (Adverse Childhood Experience) Why an ACE is so harmful, and what it does to the body? Why growing up with a parent with a mental health disorder or challenge is so hard on the child – and their lifelong health What exactly is an adverse childhood experience What happens to the brain after an adverse childhood experience How it affects our epigenetics, particularly of the brain Aren't we just supposed to try to ‘get over it' or muscle through these challenges? Why this is not just ‘all in the head' How do you start to get healthy again? Why it's so important that people take the ACE survey Why you should take a resiliency survey What are a few key early steps to take How Loving Kindness (A Tibetan Buddhist practice) can help. How meditation and mindfulness can help What Tara Brach has to say about self-love How mindfulness based stress reduction (such as by Jack Kornfield) can help How to find the thoughts that are turning on yourself. How working on self-talk can help How to move to the parasympathetic or the ‘purr' in order to heal What happens enters a healing accessible state modalities that previously wouldn't work, now begin working. What ‘small things' can make a big difference for healing What's the healing power of nature – to take the body out of this fight-or-flight or freeze mode What's the power of forgiveness for healing? How healing the psoas can help you heal your heart What's recommended for children who've experienced an ACE, or for the children of adults who are struggling Donna Jackson Nakazawa, Award-Winning Investigative Journalist Shows How Childhood Wounds Can Create Disease & Auto-Immune Disorders, & What You Can Do to Turn Your Health Around! No bacterium lives alone – it is constantly encountering members of its own species as well as other kinds of bacteria and diverse organisms like viruses, fungi, plants and animals. To navigate a complex world, microbes use chemical signals to sense and communicate with one another. Filmed live on January 28th, 2013, at ASM's headquarters, catch a glimpse into the fascinating language of bacteria with discussions by Bonnie Bassler, Princeton University, and Steven Lindow, University of California, Berkley. Dr. Bonnie Bassler, Princeton University Bonnie Bassler Ph.D. is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and the Squibb Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University. The research in her laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms that bacteria use for intercellular communication. This process is called quorum sensing. Bassler's research is paving the way to the development of novel therapies for combating bacteria by disrupting quorum-sensing-mediated communication. Dr. Bassler was awarded a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2002. She was elected to the American Academy of Microbiology in 2002 and made a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2004. Dr. Bassler was the President of the American Society for Microbiology in 2010-2011; she is currently the Chair of the American Academy of Microbiology Board of Governors. She is also a member of the National Science Board and was nominated to that position by President Barak Obama. The Board oversees the NSF and prioritizes the nation's research and educational priorities in science, math and engineering. Dr. Steven Lindow, University of California, Berkeley Steven Lindow Ph.D. is a Professor at the University of California, Berkley where his research focuses on various aspects of the interaction of bacteria with the surface and interior of plants. Dr. Lindow' s lab uses a variety of molecular and microscopy-based methods to study the ecology of bacterial epiphytes that live on the surface of plants as well as certain bacteria that are vascular pathogens of plants. They also study bacteria that live in and on plants that are fostered by consumption of the alkaloids produced by endophytic fungi. The longer-term goal of their research is to improve plants' productivity by achieving control of plant diseases through altering the microbial communities in and on plants. Dr. Lindow is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and was elected to fellowship in both the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1999.
