What if I were to say that you are very likely riding too fast in your training rides, and that in order to improve your performance you likely need to ride slower? In this conversation, we will be discussing the benefits of long slow endurance riding, and why you are likely doing the majority of your riding at too high of an intensity. Marinus holds very strong views on the importance of sub-LT1 aerobic endurance riding within a cycling training plan. He has also been known to have a unique take on the benefits of “oversized endurance rides” and fits these into his own and his athletes training plans regularly. In this podcast, expect to learn; What are the benefits of long steady endurance rides? Why these should be a staple of any training plan. How do you find your appropriate volume? How much is too much? What kind of intensity should these be ridden at, and how do you find that intensity? Why you should sing a song while riding? How should you fuel these rides?

They share their experiences with training for the Unbound gravel race and discuss different training strategies. They also answer listener questions about lactate testing and training zones. The hosts explain how to determine LT1 and LT2 in a lab environment and discuss the importance of continuous lactate monitoring. They also discuss the frequency of testing and how LT1 determines zone two training. In this conversation, Will Pfeiffer, Kaitlyn Maddox, and PJCT D1ZL CLTV* discuss the importance of lactate threshold 1 (LT1) in endurance training. They explain that training below LT1 helps prevent fatigue and overtraining, while training above LT1 can lead to a cortisol response and inflammation. They also discuss the talk test as a simple way to determine if you're training below LT1. The conversation touches on the use of lactate data to determine rest intervals and the potential for future protocols that focus on lactate buffering rather than power output. They also briefly discuss the value of VO2 testing and the impact of knowing your VO2 max on performance and motivation.   Keywords training, racing, coaching, Unbound gravel race, lactate testing, LT1, LT2, training zones, lactate threshold, endurance training, LT1, talk test, rest intervals, lactate testing, VO2 max, potential, performance   Takeaways Different training strategies can be effective for different athletes, and it's important to find what works best for you. Continuous lactate monitoring can provide valuable insights into training and performance. LT1 and LT2 can be determined in a lab environment by measuring lactate levels and power output or heart rate. LT1 determines zone two training, which is typically endurance or low-tempo training. The frequency of testing depends on individual goals and availability, but regular testing can provide valuable data for training. Training below lactate threshold 1 (LT1) helps prevent fatigue and overtraining. The talk test is a simple way to determine if you're training below LT1. Lactate data can be used to determine rest intervals and optimize recovery. Knowing your VO2 max can impact performance and motivation. Potential is not solely determined by VO2 max, and success can be achieved regardless of the number.   Titles Zone Two Training and LT1 The Frequency of Testing and its Benefits The Impact of Knowing Your VO2 Max Determining Rest Intervals with Lactate Data   Sound Bites "Yo yo, welcome back to the Matchbox." "This training that we're talking about will tie into one of the questions that we're going to talk about." "What efforts are needed to best determine LT1 and LT2 in a lab environment?" "You stay below that all the time. Even if like for me, my LT1 is in the middle of my zone two, that means my endurance training does not happen in the top of zone two." "If you can't talk comfortably, then you're probably over LT1. Is it that easy?" "If you can't hold a conversation with yourself, then you're probably going too hard."   Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Training Update 03:19 Training Strategies and Lactate Testing 09:41 Determining LT1 and LT2 in a Lab Environment 24:29 Frequency of Testing and Benefits 32:45 Using the Talk Test 36:30 Lactate Buffering Protocols 44:00 The Meaning of VO2 Max 49:31 Process Over Results

In this episode of Fast Physiology on the Critical Oxygen podcast, Dave Schell and I discuss the nuances and importance of zone two training. We start with a quick introduction of our new series - Fast Physiology, which is designed to dispel the myths surrounding training trends. We define zone two training as the intensity necessary to build volume over time and emphasize the importance of perceived effort for practical application. We highlight the role of zone two training in supporting high-intensity work and recovery, as well as its contribution to endurance performance. They also address the misconceptions and limitations of zone two training and stress the significance of consistency in training. TAKEAWAYS 1) The purpose of Zone 2 training is to build volume and absorb harder training! 2) The upper boundary of Zone 2 is close to your first threshold (LT1, VT1, NIRS BP1, Fatmax). 3)Zone 2 training doesn't always have to be right at first threshold! 4) When adding more training time, for most people it's probably best to add more Zone 2 or Volume. Direct injection has many benefits for OEM applications, but it isn't as easily customised as port injection options on some platforms. Why is this the case, and what can we do about it?Use ‘PODCAST75' for $75 off your first HPA course here: https://hpcdmy.co/hpa-tuned-inDue to the nature of direct injection and how it operates in a GM application, it simply isn't a matter of adding aftermarket injectors and turning up the fueling like we often can with port injection, given that DI fuel pumps in GMs LT engines are camshaft driven. Michael Sitar of TooHighPsi has an option for GM LT V8 owners that can take the LT1 and LT4 variates beyond their 600hp and 700hp ceiling imposed by the stock direct injection system without dealing with camshaft complications, and that is done by adding port injection and tapping into the factory GM ECU's CAN Bus data stream. At this stage customers are up in the 1400hp regions with some drag applications with plenty of margin left in their injector duty cycles for future development and additional power potential.

Episode 96: “The Station Wagon Show: Country Squires, Roadmasters, Vista Cruisers, and whatever Clark Griswold drove”In this episode, producer Phil Tower plus hosts Al Schwinkendorf and John Puhek talk about the much-maligned but now making a comeback station wagon. We spend the first part of the episode talking about a very rare 1996 Buick Roadmaster that is up for auction on the Hagerty marketplace website. The 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon was basically a Cadillac with a Buick nameplate. It was decked out with a plush cabin, and a massive V8 and it amazingly offered seating for eight thanks to a collapsible rear-facing third seat. And speaking of what's under the hood, this wagon has a 5.7-liter ‘LT1' V8 which was also found in the C4 Corvette. Buick stopped making this beastly wagon in 1996, marking the last full-size, body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive station wagon produced by an American automakerIt's interesting to note that station wagons reached their sales peak in 1976 when U.S. sales stood at 972,212 and accounted for 10% of all vehicles sold in the U.S. That same year, there were 62 station wagon models available to American car buyers. You read that correctly… 62 different station wagon models! We also talk about the amazing Ford Country Squire wagon... Another huge, best seller. And believe it or not, there seems to be a resurgence in wagons so to speak, including the diehards to attend the Radwood Festivals around the country. And this wouldn't be a show about station wagons if we didn't talk about the iconic and lovably ridiculous Griswold Family Truckster wagon. Oh, yes, we went there. And then Al decided to reminisce about the amazing HearseFest. Yes, it's really a thing and we have the link so you can learn more about it below.Michigan's AutoTalk podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Google Podcasts, Amazon Audio, Spreaker.com, Deezer, and Podcatcher. Please don't forget to LIKE our Facebook page! These training zone calculators help you determine your individualized training zones for running. We use three field tests that you can do with just a GPS watch or a running app on your phone and a heart rate monitor. We take the results from those three field tests to determine your specific training zones and track the effectiveness of your training. Full show notes for this episode including a written outline of all three field tests YouTube Video of this episode Training Zone Calculator Spreadsheet Firstly, the 20-minute test will estimate your second lactate threshold heart rate and pace (LT2). We use this test to determine your training zones. Repeating this test every 4-8 weeks will allow you to assess the effectiveness of your training at improving your race pace. Secondly, the 40-minute test will estimate your first lactate threshold pace (LT1). Repeating this test every 4-8 weeks will allow you to assess the effectiveness of your training at improving your aerobic base. Finally, the 5-minute test will estimate your VO2 max pace and help you set targets for interval workouts. Repeating this test every 4-8 weeks will allow you to assess the effectiveness of your training at improving your top-end speed. By repeating these tests regularly you can track your fitness gains. Improvements in all three tests over time indicate an improvement in fitness and are likely to result in improved performance on race day. If you notice one of the tests is not improving, that would indicate an area of weakness. Targeting that aspect of your physiology would be an excellent way to optimize your training. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theadaptivezone/message

This On the Move gets off to a quick start with hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman excited for the upcoming Mecum Dallas Auction, which kicks off a busy fall for Mecum Auctions. After a full rundown of the auction schedule, John shares the latest about a big-block crate motor soon available from Ford Performance , while Matt has the latest from Specialty Vehicle Engineering. The company released news of its 2021 Yenko/SC Stage II Camaro, which features 1,050 HP coming from a custom-built 416 CI supercharged LT1-based engine. Just 50 will be built, and each will be numbered. John asks Matt, a Yenko historian, for his thoughts on these modern machines, wondering if they’ll be as legendary as the 1960s legends created by Don Yenko at his Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Chevrolet dealership. From there, the guys are jazzed to have Steve Garrett on the show for Segment 2. Based in Kansas City, Steve's a diehard Corvette enthusiast who hosts the "Corvette Today" podcast and serves as president of the Kansas City Corvette Club. The guys talk about all things Corvette, including Steve’s C7 Corvette that boasts tons of carbon fiber, as well as what’s ahead for electric powertrains on the current C8. Then, in Segment 3, Matt and John share their insight, observations and impressions from their attendance at a recent FCA media event where they had a chance to get up close and personal with recent stunning showstoppers. John leads off, detailing a trio of Hellcat-powered Dodges: a 2020 Challenger Super Stock, a 2021 Durango SRT and a 2021 Charger Redeye. The guys discuss the big cat powertrains and how Dodge continues to stay on the gas in delivering performance-oriented muscle family cars to customers. Then, Matt gives a report on his time with the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, billed by the brand as the world’s quickest, fastest and most powerful mass-produced truck. Under the hood is a 702 HP supercharged Hemi V-8 engine that propels the truck from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and to 100 MPH in 10.5 seconds. Matt digs the dino-theme of the TRX (which squares off against the long-standing off-road champ, the Ford Raptor) and points out two Jurassic-inspired easter eggs—one under the hood and another in the center console. From there, John pipes in with news of a pair of Chrysler Pacifica minivans, including the new top-of-the-line Pinnacle and an AWD version. Matt and John like both and talk about the changing shopping habits of van shoppers, as well as the gravitation towards more premium offerings. Rounding out the regaling, Matt jumps to his thoughts on three Jeeps that were present at the event: a Grand Wagoneer concept, a 2021 Wrangler 4xe and a rough-and-ready Wrangler Rubicon 392 concept. There’s much to discuss, including items like the forthcoming tiered pricing structure of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the acceptance of an electric Wrangler in the off-road community and whether the 392 will move from a radical concept to something readily found on showroom floors.
