"Willow" est un film dʹHéroïc Fantasy proposé par Ron Howard en 1988. Imaginé et produit par George Lucas, "Willow" raconte lʹhistoire dʹune petite princesse pourvue dʹun immense destin: celui de destituer la toute puissante reine sorcière Bavmorda. Willow, jeune Nelwyn, un peuple de petits fermiers paisible, devient son protecteur et sʹallie à un cavalier Daikini, Madmartigan, au long de sa dangereuse quête. A fantasy story where a queen tries to pre-emptively murder a baby, but a pretend wizard and a war criminal team up with some wood sprites and a goat lady to stop her. Ultimately, they get the queen's daughter to betray her mother for a hot guy with a ponytail. Nobody in this world has any blood or guts and the final fight scene is a battle between 2 grandmas who don't know how to react to CGI magic. Both Tara and Adam were scarred for life by this beloved children's horror-movie classic.

It is a time of dread… Seers have foretold the birth of a child who will bring about the downfall of the powerful queen Bavmorda. Seizing all pregnant women in the realm, the evil queen vows to destroy the child when it is born...If that doesn't scream family movie to you, I don't know what does. George Lucas, Ron Howard, Val Kilmer, R2-D2, and half the Ewoks that lived on Endor's moon gave us two full hours of magic, mystery, and of course romance. Have you watched the first two episodes of Willow on Disney+ yet? If you haven't, you should because the series is a delightful fantasy adventure featuring a stellar main ensemble brimming with chemistry. If you've already seen “The Gales” and “The High Aldwin,” however, I'm willing to bet you're eager to learn more about Willow's Ruby Cruz who plays Queen Sorsha's (Joanne Whalley) daughter, Kit.The show picks up many years after the events of the 1988 film, far enough in the future that baby Elora Danan is now grown. Even though Warwick Davis' Willow and Val Kilmer's Madmartigan were able to save baby Elora from the forces of darkness back then, Willow still has a vision that ancient evil will rise and destroy the future empress, so they decide it's best to hide Elora's true identity — even from herself.Meanwhile, Kit comes face-to-face with an emerging evil when Tir Asleen is attacked and her brother, Airk (Dempsey Bryk), is taken. Desperate to find him, she opts to step up and venture beyond the safety of her home, a quest that sees her teaming with an unlikely group of characters including Willow himself. With the first two episodes of Willow the series now available to stream on Disney+, Cruz joined me for an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party to discuss how she went from frequent ArcLight Cinemas patron to becoming an on-screen star herself. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, The tale of Willow Ufgood, He started from his small village, And did all that he could. The baby was Elora Danan, Madmartigan was tall. The group set out to Bavmorda, To see that Queen fall, To see that Queen fall. The magic started getting dark, Our halfling mage was tossed, If not for the courage of his fearless heart Tir Asleen would be lost, Tir Asleen would be lost. Years later Sorsha sends a small group to stop a rising threat. With Willow there, Kit and Jade too, Thraxus Boorman and Silas. Graydon Hastur, The Prophecy, A Red Shirt too, Right there, on Disney Plus.

Sorry X-Men, there's a new longest episode in town. It's time to talk about George Lucas's totally-not-inspired-by-Lord-of-the-Rings fantasy epic (and Capcom arcade game) Willow, which coincidentally (or not) has a new TV series coming out… today! Why are all the names in this movie so awful? Does Val Kilmer make the perfect Madmartigan or would John Cusak have done it better? Did we talk about this movie for almost twice its running time? How does the arcade game reward frugal shopping? Not to miss in this episode: Jarrod references an anime all on his own, we dream up the Forrest Gump video game, discuss the benefits of owning a bone urn, and recap Willow so you can be ready for the new Disney+ series.

“This is just like a dark Look Who's Talking” The panel of peril are comin' for ya like Elora as we travel to a magical land to chat about 1988's Willow. We then try to improve upon the villain's diabolical plan for the honour of choosing next week's film and hosting the pod. Willow was George Lucas's major foray into the world of fantasy as he produced and has a story credit on Ron Howard's film. A visual epic with an intimate story, Willow tells the tale of the child Elora who is prophesied to be the one who will ‘undo' evil sorceress Bavmorda. Needless to say, old Bav isn't too keen on that idea and will stop at nothing to get her hands on the bairn. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KhFp9fqrHc ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Bavmorda (Jean Marsh) has long ruled the land with an iron fist but becomes increasingly concerned about a prophecy that says a child will be her undoing. Ordering every pregnant woman be imprisoned, so it comes to pass that Elora is found sailing down a river by Willow (Warwick Davis) who undertakes an epic journey to protect the child and defeat the evil Queen. Val Kilmer's Madmartigan and Joanne Whalley's Sorsha will aid in him in his quest. What did the heck panel think of this week's movie? How in all that is holy can they improve upon the villain's masterplan? And which evil schemer will be christened this week's most diabolical? Raise your wands, prepare your blades, and grab your magic babies and join the Cinematica Team as they explore the world of Willow (1998). What would happen to humans if they were mouse sized? Could a brontosaur evolve a taste for meat? Is the Fantasy genre still profitable? All of these questions and more will be explored in the name of Elora Danan.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and there are articles fear mongering co-sleeping coming out in states across the country including here in Kansas City. It has been a PSA worked into local news coverage on TV for two weeks straight. But of course, there are studies that show the benefits of doing the natural mammalian thing and sleeping with your newborn to balance out all the horror stories. And in those traumatic instances, almost no details are given as to what actually happened. A parent taking sleeping pills? Baby left on a couch? Blankets involved in the suffocation? A performance expert also suggests the best way to prepare your children for the future is with early specialization. Make them a master of their craft rather than a jack of all trades. The Kansas City Mayor struck a deal with the KC Homeless Union, moving most of the campers into hotels, helping folks with very low or no income get a vacant land bank home, providing city work to those "experiencing homelessness," and setting up permanent camp locations with social services. But not all the unhoused are happy with these negotiations. Kind of like how most residents won't be happy with the Parks Board voting to change three street names to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard after they tried to pull it in 2018. And to top it all of, Missouri could give up its title as the only state without a prescription drug monitoring program as a bill setting one up just passed the Senate. In the Top Three 33 segment, 33 people were arrested in Operation Bad Boi which targeted heroin, meth, and fentanyl in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Washington lawmakers are considering 33 new transportation fees and taxes under an update last week for the Forward Washington plan and 2021 brought Minnesota 33 speed-related road deaths. Of course, the magic number loves hot topics so there was no shortage of coof stories where it popped up: Pennsylvania vaccinates 33% of those eligible for COVID-1984 Vaccine 33 states now offer the vax to all adults California braces for a 33% drop in vaccine supply as more than 16 million become eligible to get jabbed on April 15 Maryland will see a 33% reduction in COVID vaccine allotment next week There were 33 Kung-Flu deaths in Oregon and Cambodia 33% COVID patients get neuropsychiatric diagnoses within 6 months Oh, and just because you're paranoid doesn't mean researchers at the Pentagon haven't already developed a microchip to detect when you're potentially infected with the China Virus. California could decriminalize psychedelics except for peyote because that belongs to Native Americans in an incredibly limited federal capacity. On April 28th, the voter-approved recreational amendment will finally have its day in the South Dakota Supreme Court after being declared unconstitutional by a district judge in February. Virginians will also be able to cultivate, possess and use weed legally this summer, although they'll still have to wait until 2024 for the commercial market to roll out. A recreational bill in Delaware had its first committee meeting and patients are now boycotting 4 of the 6 licensed medical facilities for peddling false narrative and offering negative testimony since the bill doesn't grandfather them in to a recreational license. That scarce mentality carried over to Alabama where lawmakers are working to ban Delta-8-THC and Delta-10-THC. Meanwhile, Massachusetts cannabiz regulators are excited to create a statewide product catalog to help cops and parents identify things they find. But the Bay State is also home to a lawsuit over impact fees which are part of the state law's "host community agreements" allowing towns and cities to take up to 3% of cannabusinesses' annual income as long as they justify why the fees are being imposed. Cannabis licensing came to a halt in Detroit due to Crystal Lowe's lawsuit in which her attorney argues the "Detroit Legacy" requirements violate equal-protection provisions of the Michigan Constitution and the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution. This lawsuit was originally mentioned in Bowl After Bowl Episode 69 ★ Some Holy Somebody. Also, what happens when you get Charles Koch, Weldon Angelos, and Snoop Dogg on a Zoom call? The creation of the third national marijuana reform group of 2021, the Cannabis Freedom Alliance. Fuck it, dude. You know we went bowling! In our Gutters and Strikes segments, more than 5,000 people attended an illegal party at the Tonto National Forest in Arizona which led to seven vehicle accidents, off-highway vehicle theft, a quad collision and someone getting medevac'd out by helicopter. If they had kept it under 75, there would have been no trouble. A giant lizard swept up the supermarket with its tail, a 10-foot alligator fell asleep under a parked car, and a tortoise named Madmartigan is on the loose in Wichita. A 33-year-old woman was arrested after refusing to return $1.2 million accidentally deposited into her brokerage account by Charles Schwab. Bowlers in Houston can get their contactless Domino's pizza delivered by the R2 robot by Nuro, an autonomous vehicle that dispenses your food by putting a PIN into its touchscreen. Ah, Willow. How could we not start this podcast by first visiting the movie that started us down this dark and twisted nostalgia journey? If the name of our podcast keyed you in to Willow, then you, too, deserve a big fat medal. Join us as we revisit one of the classic movies that we remember loving as kids, but only have vague and hazy memories of. Does it still hold up over time? Should it be unceremoniously tossed into the burning dumpster fire of history? No one knows. What we DO know is that we will cover such hard-hitting topics as: - Why Jay drools over matte paintings, as Benny goes over his chronological notes with zero mental stability - How the Willow's kids are jerks when they laugh at their dad for the failed pig trick - The absolutely horrible things they must have told Willow's daughter before shooting THAT scene. You know the one - One of the Brownie's is named Frenchie. With a French accent. We have questions - Val Kilmer was a beautiful, beautiful statue of a man - This movie manages to have some of the best, and some of the absolute worst, special effects we've ever seen - The weird dynamic between MadMartigan and Eric - How Fin Raziel is the absolute WORST at everything - And so much more!

In this episode we look at the career of the Iceman himself, Val Kilmer! Kilmer broke onto the scene with the comedy flicks TOP SECRET! (see our Best Movie You Never Saw of that HERE) and REAL GENIUS before taking flight with Tony Scott's TOP GUN. From there, Kilmer took up the sword as Madmartigan in WILLOW before landing a stream of great roles throughout the 90s, including THE DOORS, THUNDERHEART, TOMBSTONE, BATMAN FOREVER, HEAT, THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS and THE SAINT. While he never had another era as strong as that, Kilmer dipped in and out with some really solid work, including the criminally underrated THE SALTON SEA, WONDERLAND, SPARTAN and of course, KISS KISS, BANG BANG. From there, things got a little hazy for Kilmer and his health took a turn for the worse. He popped up here and there, working with TOP GUN's Tony Scott again in DEJA VU, started playing Mark Twain on stage, did some voice-over work, some TV appearances and even made a lesser-known flick with Francis Ford Coppola called TWIXT. While not everything he's done in his later years is as strong, credit is due to Kilmer for remaining a consumate professional in his craft and fighting through his own health scares to continue doing what he loves, even getting a return to the franchise that started it all for him, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Here's to you, Val Kilmer...you can be our wingman anytime!

This movie proves the ole adage "its not the size of the Nelwyn that matters, its how the Nelwyn uses it." Willow, like the hobbits from Lord of the Rings, is like the Spanish Inquisition - no one expects him... or treats him as a threat until its too late. Using that, along side crazy Madmartigan and his red-headed sweatie, Queen Bavmorda's daughter, Sorsha - the good guys end up saving the day. But this is a Lucasfilm movie, so expect pandering to children... forced comedy duos... silliness to break up anything scary and the such. Join Lee and Joe as they discuss their Daikini lifestyle and if the film still holds up.
In another of our "Watch to Watch Now" segments, we take a look at how Willow (the 1988 film from Lucas and director Ron Howard) connects to Star Wars, and why it's important now. Here's the gist of Willow, from Wookieepedia: A young farmer named Willow Ufgood is drawn away from his sheltered home to save Elora Danan (a baby girl with a destiny) from the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda who would see her destroyed. Willow is aided by the disillusioned master swordsman Madmartigan, who has turned to a life of roguery after the fall of his kingdom to the evil queen, and the sorceress Fin Raziel, who has been turned into a muskrat by Bavmorda. They are initially thwarted, but later joined by the queen's daughter Sorsha. Noticed that that came from Wookieepedia - the Star Wars wiki? That's not an accident. As it turns out, there are many connections between Star Wars and Willow, but perhaps none as important as the connections made between the two by Clone Wars creator and Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni. On today's show, we'll talk about the movie, you'll hear from Filoni himself about that connection, and we'll also explore a news item defining exactly why it's relevant to be talking about Willow now. This week on The Tape Store Podcast, Toby, Brooke, and Jeff talk about the second half of the 1988 epic fantasy adventure Willow. We revisit the outrageous "Not A Woman!" scene one last time because we couldn't resist then move on to the film's climax and conclusion. We discuss the development of the characters of Willow, Madmartigan, and Sorsha as they become the heroes they were destined to be, and the film's rather too-rapid but nonetheless effective resolution and powerful message. Other topics we touch on include Lootcrates, Roger Ebert, and the novelization of Willow's continued story after the film (The Shadow War Chronicles).
In our 12th episode of COMIC BEAT INSIDER (CBI), Heidi MacDonald (The Beat Chief) and Jimmy are joined by friends Jon Hoche and Stacey Whittle. This week, we chat about the cult-hit film WILLOW. Jimmy has never seen it while everyone else are die-hard fans. Even some of Heidi's family joins us at the end to talk about their love of it. Nerdy talks of the cast, trivia, fave moments and more. "Willow" definitely contributed to Angela's love of magic and the supernatural. She remembers many, many great moments from watching "Willow" as a kid. Meanwhile, Tyler kinda remembers a sledding scene. Maybe? This Willow podcast touches on ALL the memorable things from the somewhat-underappreciated Ron Howard fantasy adventure, including baby vomit, Brownies (not the delicious kind) and dirty Val Kilmer teeth! George Lucas concocted the story of "Willow," and he surely hoped the movie would explode in popularity like his "Star Wars" trilogy. That didn't exactly happen, which isn't really the movie's fault, or even George's fault. Well, except that he included those Jar Jar-esque Brownies. The Willow podcast includes Tyler and Angela discussing the incomparable charisma of Val Kilmer (playing a guy named Madmartigan - awesome name), the steady presence of Warwick Davis, pig transformations, syrup wigs, the possible origins of the xenomorph, and much more. Also, is the baby in "Willow" the most charismatic performer in history? Yes, the answer is yes. Plus, Tyler reads fan emails, and the very essence of being a millennial culminates into one of Tyler's life mantras - "It's not that I wouldn't. It's just that I didn't." It seems appropriate that a friend made through World of Warcraft would bring an epic fantasy tale like Willow to the table for this week's conversation. We talk about the criticism of George Lucas making another derivative story and how that criticism really didn't have an impact on how much Rafe and guest Monica Siegfred enjoyed the story of Willow Ufgood, Elora Danaan, and Madmartigan on their epic quest to save the kingdom from evil. Is the movie still good or does it suffer from the "toxic impulse" of nostalgia? How well does it hold up now that The Lord of the Rings has had a real adaptation realized on film?
This week: The N-word fetish, Rob gets woke on Lobster, Netflix takes on Georgia, the New Old Ghostbusters 3 Remaster, Dark Crystal all day long, Batman comes down to the chin, John Cusack as Madmartigan, nobody getting tickets to Galaxy's Edge, explaining Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding to my parents, speaking of the Witcher 3..., Modern Warfare again, James Cameron on Dark Fate, Onward: finally a movie for boys, Rob's monogamously single, Jared Harris likes to hang himself, and Data's Beta...Plus! A very long 1988 Willow Re-Review!- SharonPS: for some reason segments of the 1988 Willow: Making of Adventure documentary would not properly stream, so I've re-editing to the podcast to exclude those dead moments. This may be a show about Willow, but we're starting to feel like Indiana Jones the way we're unearthing all these forgotten artifacts from the film's past. We've regaled you with tales from the Willow expanded universe, which we suspected were based on unused sequences from the film. We've discovered production notes hinting as drastically different scenes... and now we've found the tome that answers all our questions and pieces our crackpot theories together: a first draft, third revision script of Willow.Brace yourselves for elves that steal baby tears, inflatable crabs, man-beast troopers, a romantic rivalry between Madmartigan and Kael - and that's just for starters. We use a hitherto unknown Willow young readers film adaption by Hugo-winning author Joan D. Vinge to help us determine which draft of the script the entire Willow expanded universe was based off of. Then we explore the very divergent roads not taken in this early Willow script - specifically a "selling draft" used to secure finances for the film. Find out what would happen if Willow was sent alone to the crossroads, discover the truth behind Moebius' "King Kael" illustration, and just what was that stinky spell Willow was making?Through our Willow archeology, we're not just uncovering the untold history of one of the most beloved fantasy films of all-time, we're also gleaning an unparalleled look into the Lucasfilm franchise machine in its prime. For links and more info, head to the main episode page:http://consequenceofsound.net/2018/08/george-lucas-willow-early-drafts/ Learn more about your ad choices. Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
We bring back our good friend Kenny the Wizard of the Wizardly Wisdom Podcast to discuss the wizardly film Willow. Super flash back to the late 80's, fantasy genre about a young dwarf Willow, who happens upon a human baby that carries a mark of destiny to destroy the evil Queen oppressing the people of the realm. This is a fun episode where we get extra nerdy. Show notes and more at: www.actualanarchy.com/44 Thank you for joining us on this episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast! The Actual Anarchy Podcast is all about Maximum Freedom. Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. If it's voluntary, we're cool with it. If it's not, then it violated the Non-Aggression Principle and Property Rights - the core tenants of Libertarian Theory - and hence - human freedom. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics). ABOUT Actual Anarchy, an anarchy unlike what the average idiot thinks it would be. Anarchy means no rulers, not no rules. The non-aggression principle and a respect of property rights are what makes it go. We host a podcast where we take pop culture movies and showcase moments or scenes or themes throughout that are literally actual examples of anarchy. Any place, around the world, there are always examples of Actual Anarchy all about you. Sometimes you just have to sit back and take a look. It’s easy once they’ve been pointed out a few times. Actual Anarchy is real world examples of anarchy in action. Movies, Shows, Books, News, etc… we host all sorts of content on the site from a bevy of writers enthusiastic for one goal: human freedom Read Rothbard – Become an Actual Anarchist PRESENTED BY Read Rothbard is comprised of a small group of voluntaryists who are fans of Murray N. Rothbard. We curate content at www.ActualAnarchy.com and on the www.ReadRothbard.com site including books, lectures, articles, speeches, and we make a weekly podcast based on his free-market approach to economics. Our focus is on education and how advancement in technology improves the living standards of the average person.
