In this episode, we dive deep into the struggles and frustrations that lead so many golfers—especially beginners—to quit the sport. Did you know that 75% of new players quit because their expectations don't match reality? Golf is a challenging sport, and we're here to remind you: don't quit. Our Guest today is Melissa Jackson and she shares her personal journey with golf, including moments of deep frustration and being on the verge of quitting. She explains how pushing through adversity taught her valuable lessons both on and off the course. We discuss golf and adversity in detail. Golf is a unique sport that challenges even seasoned athletes. It's technical, mental, and deeply humbling. Progression in golf is slow; new players are considered a beginner if they have been playing golf less than 5 years. It takes time for movements to feel natural and consistent. We speak on the Perfectionist Struggle. Perfectionists often face the biggest hurdles because golf demands patience and acceptance of imperfection. Learning to embrace mistakes is key to long-term success in the sport. The number one reason people quit golf early is the disparity between expectations and reality. We want our listeners to understand that struggles are universal—golf is hard for everyone, regardless of skill level or athletic background. Also, ebb and flow of progress in golf improvement isn't linear. There are highs, lows, and plateaus. Embrace the journey and celebrate small victories along the way.We are passionate about helping golfers, especially beginners, push past their challenges. No matter how tough it gets, do not quit. Growth takes time, and every golfer faces adversity—it's part of the game. Tune in now to hear inspiring advice from Melissa Jackson and learn how to stay motivated through the ups and downs of golf.Stay connected with us by following us on Facebook and Instagram @talkbirdietomepodcastThank you for tuning in and referring your friends to our show!

Sunline would be relocated from offsite to this property. The intention when purchasing the salvage yard more than a year ago was to clean it up and turn it into a late-model facility instead of a site for old junk cars, Cassill said.A case of avian influenza has been confirmed at a commercial turkey flock in Buena Vista County, the state agriculture department reported Wednesday. It is the first confirmed case of 2023.The state confirmed 30 cases of the bird flu in 2022, including 12 in March and seven in December. On Friday night it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 20 degrees.Union workers have tentatively struck a deal with Ingredion officials that may soon bring an end to its monthslong strike against the company's Cedar Rapids facility, the union president said Thursday.Mike Moore, the principal and president of Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 100G, said he and his committee are reviewing the tentative agreement “with a fine-toothed comb.”“If everything pans out, we will get it to our members hopefully within the next 24 hours,” Moore said.If that is successful, Moore said he plans to send the contract to a vote on Sunday at Teamsters Hall, where 105 union members could opt to ratify the contract. That would bring an end to the strike that began Aug. 1.Alexander Jackson, in a police interview, never admitted to killing his parents and 19-year-old sister on June 15, 2021, but after hours of interrogation he did admit his college grades had plummeted and his dad expected him to get a job or move out.Cedar Rapids Police investigators believed that could have been the motive for him to fatally shoot his father Jan Jackson, 61, mother Melissa Jackson, 68, and his sister Sabrina Jackson.According to testimony, the family members died of multiple gunshot wounds. Police found them dead in separate rooms in the house. The prosecution will rest Friday after four days of testimony, and the defense will start its case. Closings may be Monday or Tuesday. There will be live coverage each day on thegazette.com.Iowa legislative leaders expect Gov. Kim Reynolds' private school assistance proposal to come to a floor vote early next week in both the House and the Senate.Reynolds, a Republican, announced the bill Jan. 10, and it has dominated the first two weeks of the legislative session. Republicans have fast-tracked it through the lawmaking process in both chambers. If the bill passes through both chambers, it will go to Reynolds' desk to be signed into law. Next week is National School Choice Week, a week of advocacy and events focused on giving parents broader options in education.Republican House Speaker Pat Grassley maintained confidence Thursday that Republicans have the votes to pass the bill this year. A far narrower private school scholarship program last year failed to gain support of several Republicans in the House, some from rural areas who were concerned about how it would affect public schools in their districts.

This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for the weekend of May 28 and May 29. Memorial Day Weekend will have plenty of sun. Saturday will start cool and cloudy, with a high of 79 degrees. There will be a very slight chance for rain Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Monday's weather will be very similar, breezy and sunny with limited cloud cover, and a high of 88 and 90 degrees respectively. A judge will not move the trial for a former University of Iowa student charged with killing his parents and sister last year to another county because he says the media coverage in Linn County hasn't been “pervasive and inflammatory” as the defense argued. Alexander Ken Jackson, 21, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his father, Jan Jackson, 61; mother, Melissa Jackson, 68; and sister, Sabrina Jackson, 19, in June of last year. Sixth Judicial District Chief Judge Lars Anderson, in his ruling filed late Thursday, said after reviewing 152 exhibits of media coverage provided by Jackson's lawyers, he found the coverage to be “uniformly factual and largely devoid of inaccuracies, denunciations of Jackson or overly emotional coverage.” A first-degree murder charge has been changed to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter for a Cedar Rapids man accused of fatally shooting another man during a fight. James J. Siegel, 42, now faces a 10-year sentence, if convicted, instead of a life sentence in the May 13 fatal shooting of Ty John Casey, 39. According to an amended complaint filed Thursday, further investigation revealed a history between the two men and the crime scene and autopsy supported the lesser charge. Siegel's actions resulted from a “sudden, violent and irresistible passion” as a result of serious provocation by Casey, and these elements make the crime more fitting for the charge of voluntary manslaughter Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks stated in the complaint. Maybanks was asked by the Gazette about the history between Siegel and Casey, but he said he couldn't provide details. The rapidly growing southwest quadrant of Cedar Rapids is slated to see even more of an uptick in warehouse construction, thanks to the area's shovel-ready land and easy access to transportation through the airport and highway network. The Cedar Rapids City Council this week approved tax incentives for two new warehouses in the Midwest Commerce Park from local developer Tiffany Earl Williams. The projects are a 50,000-square-foot building on Capital Dr. SW, which would be leased by Hy-Vee for a warehouse and distribution facility, and a 100,000-square-foot building on Atlantic Dr. SW  for the headquarters of Worley Warehousing.

Happy Friday folks! Thanks as always for stopping by this week. The boys kick off this weeks pod by taking a look back at the last two weeks in men's hoops. The story at the top of the standings has been Kent State and Buffalo, who have respectively won nine and seven games in a row. These are not squads that opposing teams will want to play in Cleveland. Towards the bottom of the men's hoops standings, there's another interesting race playing out: the race for the last two conference tournament bids. With only eight teams qualifying for the MAC tournament, four teams will ultimately stay home. Right now, 1.5 games separate seventh place and eleventh. The boys give their predictions as to who will make the cut. In women's hoops, Akron continues to be a great story. The Zips have a firm grip on third in the conference, currently at 11-6 in MAC play. After winning only four league games last year, Melissa Jackson's squad has been a great bounce back story. Similar to men's hoops, there is a bit of the traffic jam in the middle of the standings. 1.5 games separate fourth place and ninth, and there is a lot to still be decided down the stretch. To close out the show, Zach and Zack look back at the opening week of college baseball season. Kent State had the best win of the weekend, knocking off 2016 national champion Coastal Carolina 2-1 on Sunday. Eastern Michigan pitcher Adam Filinski gave us what may well be the performance of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. The true freshman pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits in his first collegiate start to lead the Eagles to a 6-0 victory over Winthrop. Happy Friday folks! We hope you all made it through our coldest week yet of winter. It was a busy week on the hardwood in the MAC, and we're excited to break it all down for you. On the men's side of the conference, it was another strong week for Ohio and Toledo. The Bobcats now sit 5-0 in the conference and have won eight games in a row overall, and victories this week over Kent State and Bowling Green only solidified their spot at the top of the conference. Toledo turned in an impressive week of their own, going 2-0 courtesy of victories over NIU and Miami. Akron and Buffalo aren't going anywhere, but the Bobcats and Rockets certainly seem to be the class of the conference through three weeks. On the women's side of things, Toledo and Akron have been the surprises of the season. The Rockets, picked to finish eighth in the pre-season poll, have started 5-0 in conference play behind the scoring ability of Quinesha Lockett. With games this week against NIU and Ball State, the Rockets have an opportunity to extend their win streak to seven games. Akron has been another pleasant surprise, as the Zips have gotten off to a 3-1 start in conference play behind Jordyn Dawson. After winning only four MAC games last season, the Zips have shown major strides in coach Melissa Jackson's fourth season. As always, thanks for stopping by this week folks. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Saturday, December 11, and Sunday, December 12. Saturday the rainy weather from Friday will cease, and Sunday we will get a preview of the unusually balmy weather predicted in the coming week. According to a forecast from the National Weather Service, freezing rain and snow chances should come to an end Saturday morning by 7 a.m. in the Cedar Rapids area. It will remain cloudy with a high near 39 degrees, along with breezy conditions in the beginning part of the day, with a wind of 20 to 25 mph gusting as high as 40 mph. On Sunday it should be sunny, with a high near 49 degrees. Each day until next Wednesday will be warmer than the previous, with Wednesday's predicted high near 70 degrees. The state of Iowa is sending 100 traveling nurses and respiratory therapists to more than a dozen hospitals across Iowa as health care providers grapple with an increasing number of new COVID-19 hospitalizations. Using federal dollars, the state contracted to send health care staff to 17 facilities that provide level 1, 2 and 3 trauma care, including facilities in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, state public health officials confirmed to The Gazette. These traveling staff, who come from out-of-state, began arriving this week at Iowa hospitals. All the extra staff are contracted for six weeks, working roughly 60 hours a week directly with COVID-19 patients and assisting where they are needed for inpatient care, such as the emergency department or intensive care unit, local hospital officials said. The trial for a 21-year-old University of Iowa sophomore charged with killing his parents and sister in June has been reset to April 5 in Linn County District Court. https://www.thegazette.com/crime-courts/trial-will-be-reset-for-21-year-old-charged-with-killing-parents-sister/ (A judge said last month) the previous January date would be reset after the last pretrial hearing because attorneys for Alexander Ken Jackson said they were still waiting to take depositions and to exchange all evidence in the case. Sixth Judicial District Chief Judge Lars Anderson let the prosecution and defense work on a new trial date with court administration. https://www.thegazette.com/crime-courts/cedar-rapids-triple-homicide-suspect-alex-jackson-to-be-held-on-3-million-cash-bond/ (Jackson, who graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School,) is charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his father, Jan Jackson, 61; mother, Melissa Jackson, 68; and sister, Sabrina Jackson, 19, on June 15. Deer hunters found a dead mountain lion with a broken snare around its neck in east-central Iowa, state wildlife officials reported. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said the nearly 120-pound cat was found Tuesday in Poweshiek County by a group of hunters. Mountain lions — also known as pumas and cougars — have no legal wildlife status in Iowa, meaning the hunters could have kept the carcass. Instead, they turned it over to DNR officials. The DNR stated it would examine the dead cat to attempt to learn more about its background. Iowa starting running back Tyler Goodson will not play in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 as he prepares for the NFL Draft, he announced Friday in a tweet. The Junior rushed for 1,151 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2021 despite having a young and inconsistent offensive line in front of him. He is the first Iowa player to opt out of the upcoming Citrus Bowl matchup against Kentucky. Current projections have him going in around the 5th round of the NFL Draft. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21. It's not going to get super warm this weekend, but it won't be too bad for late November. According to the National Weather Service it will become increasingly cloudy in the Cedar Rapids area with a high near 51 degrees. The low will settle in at around 32 degrees Saturday night. On Sunday the clouds will gradually part onto a mostly sunny day, with a high near 48 degrees. The wind will pick up as the day moves along however, so expect a blustery Sunday night with a low near 22 degrees. The January trial for a 21-year-old University of Iowa sophomore charged with fatally shooting his parents and sister in June will be reset to a later date. Attorneys for https://www.thegazette.com/crime-courts/cedar-rapids-triple-homicide-suspect-alex-jackson-to-be-held-on-3-million-cash-bond/ (Alexander Ken Jackson) told a judge Friday during a case status hearing that they are still waiting on discovery in the case from the prosecution, which they understand is being shared as soon as possible. The defense said the Jan. 25 trial date isn't possible, considering they lack all the evidence and haven't started depositions. The prosecution did not resist this request, and the judge asked the prosecution and defense to work out a later date. Jackson, who graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his father, Jan Jackson, 61; mother, Melissa Jackson, 68; and sister, Sabrina Jackson, 19, on June 15. According to reporting from the Associated Press, the rules for getting a COVID-19 vaccine booster are about to become much simpler. The United States on Friday opened COVID-19 booster shots to all adults and took the extra step of urging people 50 and older to seek one, aiming to ward off a winter surge as coronavirus cases rise even before millions of Americans travel for the holidays. Up until this point, Americans faced a confusing list of who was eligible for a booster that varied by age, their health and which kind of vaccine they got first. The Food and Drug Administration authorized changes to Pfizer and Moderna boosters to make it easier. Under the new rules, anyone 18 or older can choose either a Pfizer or Moderna booster six months after their last dose. For anyone who got the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the wait already was just two months. And people can mix-and-match boosters from any company. The board governing Iowa's medical marijuana program plans to ask the Iowa Legislature to allow the state public health department to decide how many dispensaries for consumers there should be — and where they should be located — rather than restricting dispensary licenses statewide to five. The https://talentbank.iowa.gov/board-detail/e7729aa7-361b-4234-a9e0-8da55f787bcf (board) voted unanimously at a virtual meeting Friday on a recommendation to the Iowa Legislature to change the law to give the state health department discretion to decide how many dispensaries are licensed and where they will be located. This would allow the agency to consider putting more dispensaries in urban areas with a higher concentration of registered patients, while still balancing access by rural patients. As the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow draws to a close, amidst debate about how much it has actually achieved, researchers such as Dr Melissa Jackson are solving intractable climate change dilemmas on the front line. Melissa Jackson is a research fellow with Griffith University’s Climate Action Beacon, recognising her novel interdisciplinary approach to water and energy management, particularly in remote communities such as the islands of the Torres Strait. On the Gender Card today she explains how she’s using innovative technologies such as water meters, to empower local communities as they face increasing water supply limitations, exacerbated by the impact of climate change. Melissa has just returned from her latest visit to the Torres Strait, and her interviews with locals about the impact of climate change form a key part of this podcast, and her pioneering model of community based engagement. Part of her success was discovering how to give women in these isolated communities more of a voice in decision making, to help the community come up with successful strategies for extreme weather events and increasingly unpredictable rainfall. Melissa Jackson resides in Columbia, South Carolina. She has been in the midst of God and many Saints since the womb. Her mother is an evangelist and while pregnant, she evangelized to the surrounding neighborhood. At the tender age of 9, after reading the book of Revelation in one night, she made a conscious decision to give her life to Christ Jesus. From that night, she knew that life would never be the same. She immediately requested to be baptized in the bathtub of her home in Brooklyn, NY. She was raised to always read her Bible and pray every day so she can grow in the Lord and spread the gospel with confidence. Melissa had many diverse roles in the ministry, such as Children Church Assistant, Church Program Coordinator, Drama Team Member, Choir Member, and Praise and Worship Team Member/Leader. She stays hungry and available with a humble heart to hear from God. Her passion is reading the Word of God, through the Spirit of God, and receiving downloads from heaven to teach and preach to those assigned to her.The Book: I Almost DiedSupport the show (http://paypal.me/remag)

The Inspired Purpose Podcast: We Rise by Lifting Others

In this episode we feature author Melissa Jackson. Melissa has had a passion for health, fitness, and well-being most of her life.  In 2005 she began her teaching journey starting with Spinning classes, which evolved into teaching circuit training and other endurance based fitness classes. A back injury in 2012 led Melissa into yoga, and it was exactly what she needed mentally and physically.  Yoga was something that enabled her to keep moving without causing more pain, while also providing a challenging workout, which she craved.  Not only did yoga not cause her more pain, but it relieved some of it.  After practicing for a few months, Melissa noticed transformation in ways that no other fitness class or sport had given her.  In 2015, Melissa eagerly became a certified yoga teacher, and she has been practicing and teaching passionately ever since.  She is excited and eager to bring this passion to everyone at Tribe.  Off the mat, Melissa is a wife and mom.  In addition to yoga, she has a passion for cooking homemade meals and helping other busy families do the same.  She enjoys sitting on the sidelines of her kids' soccer and basketball games, and participating in local community events.   Here is how to find Melissa: https://www.tribehotyoga.guru/ Tribe Hot Yoga /Facebook tribehotyoga /Instagram Here's how to find us: Inspired.purpose.coaching  /instagram Inspired Purpose Coaching  /facebook inspiredpurposecoaching@gmail.com (mailto:inspiredpurposecoaching@gmail.com)   /email Penelope: Penelope.jones.coaching  /instagram Penelope Jones Coaching  /facebook www.penelopejonescoaching.com   Tara: Self.love.success  /instagram Tara Ann LePera  /facebook Amy: Coach_broccoli  /instagram Redpandastrength  /instagram

“There are boundaries, there are expectations, and there’s a balance between play and work.” -Melissa Jackson For nationally and internationally acclaimed dressage competitor, horse trainer, and my guest today Melissa Jackson, the quote applies to both building a relationship with a horse partner and parenting kids. On today’s podcast, I talk with Jackson about a variety of topics including: The crossover between training horses and coaching kids What her career as a professional athlete taught her kids about flexibility, understanding, and sacrifice Processing her younger daughter’s decision to end her basketball career after high school Learning how to play a parenting role rather than a coaching role, and communicating with her daughters after basketball games The biggest challenge for sports parents today (it starts with a B) I’ve been honored to know Melissa Jackson, my guest today, for more than 20 years, both as my own daughter’s dressage coach and as a friend. What is dressage? It’s an artistic and competitive style of horseback riding that requires intense skill and dedication to master. Jackson has undoubtedly achieved that mastery. Jackson is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist and a graduate of the L Judges program. Her great success in both National and International competitions earned her and her partner at the time, Wellington, invitations to the Festival of Champions in 2006 and 2007. This partnership went on to Germany to successfully compete and train under Hubertus Schmidt, at the Grand Prix Level. Melissa secured the ride on Whirlpool, aka “Hooli” in August 2013. She now competes with her new partner, Domani. When you need to schedule a meeting with a client do you still pick up the phone?  Are you managing projects by piling information and documents on your desk? If you are away from the office does your team have access to client and project information?  Join me and Melissa Jackson, Owner of Normel Solutions as she shares way to incorporate technology in how you run your business. Melissa S. Jackson is the owner & operator of Normel Solutions – a web services agency for creative entrepreneurs. Founded on this idea that entrepreneurs should be tech enabled despite how well (or not so well) they understand technology. The goal is to expose entrepreneurs to new tools and give tips on how to interact with technology. ‘Normel’ entrepreneurs attack their greatest challenge – technology –by understanding themselves first and then their businesses in depth. One of the things Melissa talks about and you'll hear in the overall theme of her conversations with people is this idea of adding context to content. To do this she often ask 'why' several times to get to the root of client’s  needs and understand the story behind their business needs - relating it all back to their digital strategy. It allows her to help them get to the core of what they need and provide tools accordingly.  Want a FREE audio book? Go to Audible.com and you can get one.
