Joined by Matt Muhl from Brightside Coffee to celebrate our Christmas Special episode, we get into the spirit of the silly season right from the start. The original title of this Christmas Special episode was "Coffee in Beer" as we followed a similar theme to last year and responsibly enjoyed a couple of local coffee-based beers whilst we recorded this one. It was quickly overshadowed by the timeless ritual that is gift giving as we each brought in a gift that we made ourselves. Aaron wrote a song, and brought in some fruit, Brendan wrote some poetry, and good golly if we didn't almost die of laughter when Chris presented a hand-drawn picture of us that we still cannot believe. See our socials for a censored version. Also in this episode; we remember our favourite gifts, talk about our go-to Christmas movies, and a very special Christ-Mas Health Advice with Chris for the holiday season.Visit www.filament.coffee to order delicious black coffee, made by us, to your home or work. Julian Rubinstein is the author of The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood, a book that has earned widespread acclaim since its release. Here's the synopsis from the website. In The Holly, the award-winning journalist Julian Rubinstein, who grew up in Denver, reconstructs the events leading up to the...
THE HOLLY is the directorial debut from journalist and writer Julian Rubinstein. The film is based on his book, The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood, which was a NYTime's Book Review Editors' Choice. At the heart of it is Terrance Roberts, an ex-member of the Bloods, who had since raised funds to open a youth center in his neighborhood, The Holly. Gang-member-turned-activist Terrance ends up shooting a man at a community event he organized focusing on non-violence. What unfolds is not black and white. The film reveals multi-level corruption in Denver's government, police force, and local media to weave narratives about gang violence in the city. In this episode, Dawn sits down with both journalist Julian Rubinstein and the film's protagonist, Terrance Roberts, to have an open conversation about what it means to participate in a documentary that is so revealing and intertwined with powerful and dangerous people, the role toxic masculinity plays in gang culture, and what we can all do to help better communities like The Holly. The conversation around who is ethically allowed to tell stories about various communities has come up in several episode of this podcast, and continues in this episode. The film premiered at Mountainfilm Fest where it won the Audience Choice award TW: Discussion around gun violence. Follow the film: Website Instagram Facebook Twitter
Live from the no panic zone—I'm Steve Gruber—I am America's Voice— I am an anti- communist by trade—I was raised to understand the destruction of Socialists over time and the bodies they left behind—that's why I fight for America every single day! Here are three big things you need to know right now— ONE— Gun sales are not impacted by inflation—with yet another month—which makes 38 in a row with more than one million sold in the country— TWO— The attack on political speech continued Thursday in Tennessee—as homes of pro-life activists were raided by the new brown shirts of the FBI—its outrageous—and getting worse— THREE— The joys of living in a commune—now for me right now—that's basically how it feels right now—with a herd of kids, dogs, cats and of course the chicken ranching operation—that had tragedy hit this week—when a hawk came in like a wrecking ball—and did what hawks do— The hawk ripped the place up like Joe Biden has ripped through our economy— BUT I want to take time today to discuss a whole pile of things that we might not discuss normally—BECAUSE its free for all Friday—and that means wandering through the aisles and cleaning up all the stuff left behind— And I will get back to the commune in a bit—because confessions from the commune— will be fast and furious— And frankly different—NOW keep in mind this is a Free Market commune—and we are all pulling our weight and keeping things moving— But lets start with Hunter Biden—in a late breaking story yesterday—The Washington Post went public with a huge story that The FBI and the IRS both have sufficient evidence to support felony charges against the Presidents youngest son—and its doesn't even have anything to do with the infamous laptop from Hell—the Washington Post and other formerly reputable news outlets buried from the Headlines 2 years ago before the 2020 election—to help protect Joe Biden and make sure he was elected— The case of Hunter Biden is now in the hands of the US attorney in Delaware—who will decide whether or not to pursue gun charges over Hunter lying on his application to purchase paperwork about using illegal drugs or addiction issues— The other crimes are related to tax issues—that stem from his shady business dealings in Ukraine and elsewhere—and appear to focus on fraudulent tax returns and other financial issues—and its just the latest embarrassing headlines involving the President's son— Hunter has a long history of poor decisions—involving drugs, prostitutes and even a tawdry affair with his sister in law after the death of his brother Beau from cancer— The laptop—that was first reported by the New York Post in October of 2020—is a collection of emails and correspondence with numerous people connected to the Biden business dealings—including what appear to be direct connections to President Joe Biden himself— The Laptop is also littered with pictures of Hunter and numerous naked women in a variety of compromising positions—and conversations involving the use of illegal drugs, that are also clearly visible on camera on several clips— In a word Hunter Biden is a mess—and now that mess is poised to splash onto the President once again—and one cannot help to think back about the outlandish and embarrassing behavior of a similar Presidency that ultimately failed—that of Jimmy Carter—and his infamous Brother Billy— Remember Billy Beer? The big question left today however is why have charges not been filed? The Washington Post reports these crimes have been established for months and now it's a matter of prosecutors making a call on whether or not to move forward— I guess we will have to wait to find out—if there is still a Department of Justice under the perverted leadership of Merrick Garland—or not— In the meantime—lets get to cleaning up more aisles on this Free For All Friday—

This is the eighteenth installment in Eric Ludy's epic summer Daily Thunder series entitled Spiritual Lessons from WW1. This episode returns us to America in 1914 and lays another foundation stone in the drama embroiling the United States at the time the Great War breaks out. US President, Woodrow Wilson, becomes a chief character in the landscape of WW1 and by the end of the war will prove possibly the most important decision-maker on earth. This message explores the beginnings of his presidency and his susceptibility to the distractive measures the Germans are employing to keep him preoccupied everywhere but in the territory the Germans are wanting to conquer. When abusive partners have access to guns, female partners are 500 percent more at risk for homicide. So in 2015 when police came to get Scott Bland's guns after his wife was granted an order of protection, confiscating 73 of his 74 guns wasn't their best call. Especially after he had explicitly informed his wife and the mother of his two children that he was going to kill her. "Looking back on it, I think, of course he was going to shoot me," Janet tells Toxic. This is Janet's astounding story of how she survived his horrific attack in broad daylight and became one of too many femicide near-misses. We talk about how she dealt with ridiculous backlash after appearing on Jon Stewart's show, and why she doesn't want people to necessarily give up their guns, but she does want women to be believed. Also, Gabby Petito's story is being made into a Lifetime TV movie and we have thoughts.
What happens when an anti-gang activist shoots someone at his own peace rally? For Terrance Roberts of Northeast Park Hill, that question came to define his life following that very incident on September 20, 2013. Award-winning journalist Julian Rubinstein spent seven years reporting Roberts' story. The resulting book, “The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood,” came out in May 2021. It won a Colorado Book Award for best general nonfiction, and has been made into a documentary film that premiered at this year's Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride. And recently, Roberts announced a run for Denver mayor. Roberts and Rubinstein joined host Bree Davies last May to talk about the book, the nature of gang violence in Denver, and police reform. Shenae became an American citizen 3 months before the world turned on its head and life as we knew it was forever changed. Officially becoming American was one of her biggest childhood dreams come true but these past couple of years, and recent months in particular, have made her question where the safest place to raise her kids truly is. The American Dream she'd chased since 10 years old has been shattered in more ways than one and the dreams she now has for her children's future may take her out of America for good. Annalynne was born and raised with deeply patriotic conditioning that gives her a much better understanding of the mentality that Shenae is so fearful of for her kids' safety. This week, these two confront very controversial recent events from two very different places with one common desire… to keep the children in this country safe from gun violence. Please be advised that this episode includes candid discussion about sensitive and potentially triggering topics. Produced by Dear Media

We're winging it here but this is what we do! News, gossip and current events. We're like the View except we're not insufferable megalomaniacs.

In October 1985, an 18-year-old woman was found shot and stabbed to death on a Salt Lake City street. Her murder has remained unsolved for over 35 years. Why? At best, the SLC Police Department wildly mishandled the case and neglected to follow up on even the most simple leads. At worst, they were actively covering it up to aid the city in its bid for the Winter Olympic Games. Let's dive into the cold case of Christine Gallegos. Make sure to stick around after the episode for an awesome chat with private investigator Jason Jensen. || SOURCES || The Justice Files series by Marcos Ortiz on ABC 4.https://www.abc4.com/news/top-stories/the-justice-files-the-document-that-unveils-an-alleged-killer-pt-2/https://www.abc4.com/news/top-stories/the-justice-files-after-36-years-police-actively-investigating-cold-case-murder-pt-3/Jason Jensen - Jensen Investigations | Utah Cold Case Coalition | Interview October 12th, 2019https://mix1051utah.com/life/sms-cold-case-christine-gallegos/SLC PD Christine Listing http://www.slcpd.com/1985/05/15/christine-gallegos/Three Murders, One Gun by Sydnee Gonzalez; BYU Universe Narratives June 12th, 2020https://universe.byu.edu/narratives/three-murders-one-gun/Murderpedia.org https://murderpedia.org/male.R/r1/rhoades-paul.htmDeseret Newshttps://www.deseret.com/1994/1/24/19088421/task-force-won-t-probe-s-l-killingsOTHER:http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/death/US/rhoades1277.htmhttp://www.fdsidaho.org/clemency/rhoades/full_story.html
What's the best part of any good local bookstore? The staff recs! Duh. We love those colorful little handwritten notes on the shelf pointing us to that next page-turner. So as holiday shopping gets under way, we invited two of Tattered Cover's book buyers to come on the show and share some of their favorites of the year. City Cast Denver host Bree Davies sits down with Jeremy Patlen and Kathy Baum to talk through Tattered Cover's 2021 Books of The Year and give us a little behind-the-shelf insight into how these recommendations happen. It has been a hell of a 2 year stint representing the Irreverent Warriors with our weekly podcast! But, as all good things come to an end, so too has our time with IW. We have had a great run and made a lot of important connections with politicians, celebrities and various VSOs, large and small, who have come on the show and shared similar missions. We have connected so many IW hikers with resources and made relationships that will further the goal of preventing veteran suicide. We had a lot of laughs but I hope we saved a few lives in the process too.
Host Caris Fox and guest Julian Rubinstein, author of The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood, discuss the Shakespearean-like history of gang violence in Denver, Colorado. This episode also examines the intimate relationship between the media and law enforcement in creating and controlling the narratives that surround gang violence in Denver. Rubinstein exposes the interdependence of gang violence and law enforcement budget increases, the effects of anti-gang initiatives funded by law enforcement, and the failure of Denver-based media outlets to accept accountability for problematic behavior and reporting about gangs. I forgot to talk about the Kyle Rittenhouse case! Big day for the defense today, as the “One Gun” antifa witness has to admit to not only having one bicep, but NO TESTICLES under cross examination. It was too fun to watch!
In the early hours of December 11, 2012, Shalema Gaskin was on her way to visit her daughter at Brookdale Hospital in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It was four blocks away from her home, but she never made it there. She was found behind the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back of the neck. A couple of days later, Steven Evans was killed a mile away with the same gun. To this day, no tips have been called in for either case. Detectives are asking for the public's help to solve this case.
Whether you're talking training, pest control or just sheer fun, a .22 pistol is arguably the one gun everyone should have. In today's episode, host Brent T. Wheat and Roy Huntington talk about why the .22 pistol is one of the most versatile firearms you can own. Episode Sponsors: The GUNS Magazine Podcast is presented by Hodgdon. In this episode, Bob speaks with freelance journalist, Julian Rubenstein, author of The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2021). The book tells the story of anti-gang activist, Terrance Roberts, who shot a young gang member before a peace rally he organized. In telling the story of Terrance Roberts, Rubenstein also tells the history of black organizers from the civil rights era, the black power movement through to today's black lives matter movement. Rubenstein is a real journalist; he's devoted many years of his life telling the story of Terrance and Denver's North East Park Hill Neighborhood and he was the battle scars to prove it. In an age when so many people have trouble telling the difference between opinion journalism and objective journalism, the depth and scope of Julian's tenacious reporting deserves recognition. You can follow Julian Rubinstein on twitter at @Julian_Rubinste. The Road to Now is part of the Osiris Podcast Network.
It really wouldn't be a hard fix. Instead, you just added 2 more guns that did what the assault rifle should have done. Our boy Ryan came through and talked about something I'm totally average at: Halo! We actually still play the Master Chief Collection, hit us up for some BIG TEAM BATTLE. Either way, we learned a lot more about this game and one of us is gonna get a lot better at it! And that was definitely not directed at Jay, he's pretty good you know not gonna lie to y'all. It's definitely Sean. Sean sucks at Halo. He never carries the team. With the tips we got from Ryan, we're definitely ready to get into some heavier games. So check him out on Twitter and the occasional Twitch stream @tehfenix! Step your game up. As always hit us up on Twitter @PodHigher! We're preparing for something really big, I don't think anyone is ready for this amazing news. Venture behind the scenes for a glimpse of Yaddo magic: Chef and writer Gabrielle Hamilton (Blood, Bones & Butter) in conversation with New York magazine's “bilious gourmand” Adam Platt on the tastes of summer and what the future might hold for NYC restaurants. Award-winning journalists Mark Binelli (Detroit City Is the Place to Be) and Julian Rubenstein—author of The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood—discuss life, work and moving back home to write a book. Contributing artists: Joseph Keckler, Michael Harrison, Janis Joplin, George Michael.

Holly Street runs north-south through metro Denver. I've always lived within walking distance of Holly, but miles south of 34th and Holly in Park Hill. I knew about the Holly Shopping Center from growing up in Denver, and from working as a Denver prosecutor for sixteen years. Julian Rubinstein has authored The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood. It's a compelling story about former gang member Terrence Roberts and the history of Park Hill, Denver, gangs, cops and USA. There's never been a book quite like this about Denver. Bill Buckley was a legendary Denver Chief Deputy DA who prosecuted for 26 years and showed me some ropes. Buckley reminisces about mean streets of Denver, including his responding to the 12-10-75 murder of DPD Homicide Detective Don DeBruno on Broadway. We talk about Denver crimes back in the day. Buckley prosecuted 56 murder cases including the United Bank Massacre (Father's Day 1991), also on Broadway. Ex DPD Sgt. Jim King was put on trial and acquitted but Buckley still argues King's guilty. James Lowe was found guilty of horrible 6-26-79 murder on West Quincy Avenue at Pinehurst CC in Denver, a case Buckley brings to dramatic life. Troubadour Dave Gunders sings sweet sad song about leaving one's homeland, chased out by events. Louisiana Goodbye speaks of lost communities and struggles to reclaim homes. Some seek to reclaim history. We discuss The Alamo and whole lot more. Key to history is to get the facts straight. Peter Boyles rarely gets his facts straight. In a further takedown of this bad historian, we play sound of Boyles claiming governmental treatment of Christian baker Jack Phillips is Nazi-like. But Boyles lies. His views are skewed. We've got the sound. Rundown - Julian Rubinstein - 02:25 Bill Buckley in Craig's Lawyers' Lounge - 01:00:34 Dave Gunders - 02:12:49 Craig takes on Boyles' bigotry - 02:34:22
There's a new book out about gang violence in Denver, and it's causing quite a stir. Award-winning journalist Julian Rubinstein spent seven years reporting the story of Terrance Roberts, a former gang member turned anti-gang activist who shot someone before a peace rally he himself had organized on September 20, 2013. Julian says Terrance's story has been widely misunderstood, and he hopes to correct the record with his new book, “The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun, and the Struggle to Save An American Neighborhood.” They both join host Bree Davies on the show today to talk about that day in 2013, the nature of gang violence in Denver, and what it all means for Terrance's neighborhood, Northeast Park Hill. Kevin Sullivan hosts the Twenty-One Gun Podcast, the official podcast of Irreverent Warriors. Kevin served our Nation as an Air Force Navigator and continues to serve as a veteran advocate. It was great to chat with Kevin about veteran issues, stress, podcasting, VET Tv, and silkies hikes. Listen in….From Kevin: Lately, we're hearing about 22 veteran suicides a day. It makes me wonder where I would have been a decade ago without the support of a loving family and resources to get back on my feet. How many veterans are left feeling alone and isolated in a sea of civilians who don't speak their language, understand their humor, or share common experiences? So I decided to bring the stories of Post-9/11 Veterans out in the open. I want veterans to share their stories of success and failures and to hopefully shed light on the fact that none of us are alone as long as we call ourselves veterans!#veteran #irreverentwarriors #silkiehike #vettv #silkieshikes #twentyonegunpodcast #veteranissues #22aday #usarmy #usairforce #usmarines #usnavy #uscoastguard #vetshelpvets @21gunpodcast @vet_tv @donnyomalley #gruntlife #vettvarmy #vettvnavy #vettvmarines #vettvairforce Twenty-One Gun Podcast: https://www.twentyonegun.net/ VET Tv: https://www.veterantv.tv/ Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)
Concealed carry isn't as easy as everyone would lead you to believe. In fact, I think it can be a difficult challenge for many folks to get the training they need, practice to stay proficient, find a system that makes carry comfortable and convenient while still providing reasonable access to their gun. It can be downright difficult. The physical aspect of shooting can be a challenge for some folks as well. Especially when we expect them to get hits with the actual gun they are going to carry. Because of all the challenges that concealed carry poses, many folks select a small gun to ease the burden. A small gun certainly makes carry easier, but, when it gets to the shooting part, things can get tough with itty bitty guns. Small sights, stiff springs, long and heavy triggers all in a package that is hard to hold on to and recoils more than you might like all adds up to a gun that is hard to shoot. So, what do most people do? They practice and train with a gun that is easy and enjoyable to shoot and carry the gun that is easy and enjoyable to carry... Do you see the problem? Yeah, you guessed it, you actually need to be able to get the hits with the gun that you carry concealed. There are some times when it makes sense to practice and train with a gun other than your carry gun and those are the situations we are going to talk about today on the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast.
