Last year, we sat down with Casey Brown right after the first iteration of Red Bull Rampage to feature a women's category to chat about what it meant to finally break that particular glass ceiling, what it took to do it, and how the event went.Casey is, once again, among a stacked roster of women who will be dropping in for this year's competition, but she's been up to a whole lot more than just preparing for Rampage — from bringing back Dark Horse, now on her own property; working with D3O to develop better women's protective gear; and putting together a bunch of other projects in between. So we brought her back on the podcast to talk about all of it, the state of women's freeride & the generation of riders following in her footsteps, and a whole lot more.RELATED LINKS:Blister Mountain Bike Buyer's GuideGet Our Free Newsletter & Gear GiveawaysBLISTER+ Get Yourself CoveredCasey Brown on the Inaugural Women's Red Bull Rampage (Ep.246)TOPICS & TIMES:The return of Dark Horse (2:51)The new venue(7:12)What's next for Dark Horse? Today, I'm sharing something deeply personal and serious—my stalker story. For over a year, Timothy C. (we can share his full name soon if need be) has been physically stalking me, and his digital harassment goes back even further. Law enforcement is now involved, but I wanted to update you all in case anything happens to me—so there's no question about who did it. This episode isn't just about my experience; it's also about the reality of stalking, the dangers of obsession, and the importance of taking threats seriously. Stay aware, stay safe, and let's talk about it all, shall we?—https://noblegoldinvestments.com

In this episode of The Sonny Brown Breakdown, guest Scott Sievewright discusses his ecological approach to coaching martial arts. Sievewright emphasises the importance of live, unscripted sparring from day one to build relationships and develop skills, arguing that traditional techniques taught in isolation do not effectively transfer to real-life fighting situations. Sievewright believes his method can produce better, more skilled fighters compared to traditional approaches by developing movement repertoire and qualities through live, games-based play sparring. He highlights the role of sparring in correcting errors and the importance of adaptability and self-organisation in training. The conversation covers various themes, including footwork, external focus of attention, situational sparring, the relationship between distance and space in fighting, brain health in combat sports, and the challenges of transitioning from the gym to amateur fighting. Sievewright also discusses the importance of prioritising the health and safety of athletes, challenging the use of headgear in training and emphasising the need for fighters to routinely deal with pressure and compete in various events before amateur fights. He stresses the importance of individuality in training and the need for continuous experimentation and adaptation in the context of an ecological approach to coaching martial arts.

This episode is about how to choose safety and protective gear for dual sport riding. It's tricky because the gear designed for dirt is very different from gear designed for the road due to the varying requirements in protection. We discuss what to look for in helmets, chest and back protectors, elbow and knee guards, adventure suits, boots, and gloves.

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, engineers at McMaster joined forces with physicians upon realizing the urgent need for local solutions to personal protective equipment shortages. Just months later, McMaster University is now home to an established network of engineers, clinicians, local manufacturers and companies dedicated to advancing personal protective equipment products in Canada. How did this collaboration get off the ground, and what's next for advancing PPE in Hamilton and Canada? Guests: Ravi Selvaganapathy, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering Dr. Alison Fox-Robichaud, Professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster and a critical care physician at HHS Host: John Preston, Associate Dean of Research and External Relations, Faculty of Engineering
Nurses in California, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada and Texas are protesting one of the nation's largest hospital chains for a “lack of preparedness” amid the coronavirus pandemic. They're calling on HCA Healthcare to provide optimal personal protective equipment, or PPE, for nurses and other staff. In New York, the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States, nurses and doctors at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx protested Thursday over the lack of PPE. Today another protest is underway in front of Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan calling for more PPE, better staffing and COVID-19 testing for frontline staff. Live from the protest, we speak with Tre Kwon, an ICU nurse at Mount Sinai West and a member of the COVID-19 Frontline Workers Task Force at Mount Sinai Hospital. Kwon ended her maternity leave early to help her colleagues address the COVID-19 pandemic, which is overwhelming New York City hospitals. Kwon is also a member of Left Voice.
