History shows robo-advisors failed to live up to the hype! When robo-advisors first came out years ago, people asked if I was worried about my career. I said no because I do believe that investing can be very complicated and a good advisor is worth it. I'm happy to report that has been the case. Robo advisors have only accumulated one trillion dollars in assets, that is only 2% of the entire $50 trillion advisory market. JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs both dropped their robo-advisor programs because their clients didn't feel the low cost provided what they needed. Low costs were the initial selling point for robo-advisors but today most have added some human interaction. With that costs have increased and these hybrid services can now cost around 0.65%. In my opinion, that is still not a great option because you won't get a personal advisor and instead you will be left with a team of people who really don't know your situation. The biggest problem I have seen with the robo-advisors has been when things get difficult, investors have no one to talk to and they end up selling at the wrong time. When it comes to performance, I think most investors have found that the lower fees did not produce the results they had hoped for. Over the last five years, the best performing robo-advisor based on a 60/40 portfolio was Sofi Automated Investing with a 7.8% annualized return. Schwab pulled up the rear with their Schwab Intelligent Portfolios showing a five-year annualized return of only 5.8%. It's important to point out these numbers are only if the investor stayed in the program for five years straight. Sometimes automation can be great, but there are just certain areas of life such as your health and financial well-being that you need a good professional on your side to talk to when you need.    A look into the history of inflation data  Whether we're talking about the CPI or the PCE, it seems no one is happy with how inflation is reported. I tell people your personal inflation is the most important inflation to understand as it is based on what you're spending habits are rather than looking at someone else's. A good example is a college student has far different expenditures than a retired senior. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its first CPI number in February 1921 and that report included data going back to 1913. Time has changed consumer inflation as spending and prices have changed overtime. From 1935 through 1939, food represented 33.9% of a household's expenses, today it is only 13%. During the depression, apparel was hard to come by and it was 11% of a paycheck. Today it only represents 2.6%. Many items are not comparable as time and style has changed. For example, cars and radios weren't common enough to be included in the earliest years and now radios have become a dying product. There are some items though that we can look back over history and come. In 1913 round steak was 22.3 cents a pound which is equal to about $7 today. This would be below the price of $8.25 in the month of May. Butter was hard to come by and cost 38.3 cents a pound. That would be around $12 a pound in today's dollars versus the May average of around $4.60. I will agree the CPI and even the PCE are not the best or should I say an exact measurement that people may want, but keep in mind the Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys metro area businesses and households collecting 94,000 prices and 8,000 rental housing unit quotes per month. So while it is a difficult task to take on, it is not just one person throwing out numbers but an accumulation of a lot of data that has been compiled for over 100 years. There will never be a perfect system for measuring inflation, but as of now they have not been able to find a better way to calculate it.   The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has remained at low levels Oil currently trades around $75-$78 a barrel but the uneasiness in the Middle East should cause concern about the level of our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). The government used part of that reserve back when oil was $100 a barrel to try and keep the price of oil low, but they have never tried to replace it. We are currently sitting at a 41 year low on the SPR and I have to ask excuse the language, What the hell are we doing? Yes, the United States is currently pumping a lot of oil, but if there were a worldwide supply disruption that would then increase the price of oil around the world. The current administration should've been taken advantage of the low prices. We have had oil low for quite a while now and should have been buying a little bit at a time. For some reason the administration has chosen not to do that. I think this is a mistake and I do believe that if we don't do something soon, we have the potential for some major problems with our energy security here in the US.    The US government is issuing too much short term debt over long-term debt We have said many times that we're not that concerned with the overall debt of the US government because a true balance sheet shows we will be OK. However, that doesn't mean that the current way we are financing that debt is correct. What concerns me is we are issuing too much short term debt versus long-term debt and that in the future the country will be at the mercy of short term interest rates to finance our large debt of $36 trillion. What should be happening is the government should be issuing more longer-term debt to lock in lower rates, just like you would on a mortgage. The concern is if they were to do that, it could cause long-term rates for consumers to increase. What appears to be happening is that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates and short term rates will fall, but there should be a spread of around 2% from a short term rate to a 10 year treasury. If short term rates fell to a reasonable 3% that would put the 10 year treasury around 5%. It could cause some short term pain, but that's far better than having a big portion of our $36 trillion debt in short term maturities. If short term rates were to skyrocket so would the interest cost and that would create more problems.     Why is gold hitting new highs? Last week gold surpassed $2500 per ounce, which is an all-time high for the precious metal. Many people thought with high inflation in 2021, 2022, and 2023 gold would have appreciated then, but it actually did very little as the ETF GLD was up just around 10% from the beginning of 2021 through the end of 2023. Something else that moves gold is the strength of the US dollar, which is starting to decline. The reason for the decline in the US dollar is because it does appear that interest rates are coming down. This generally leads the world to buy more gold. 2024 has been a great year for gold as it is up over 20% and while it may have some more appreciation going forward, you will still not find it in our portfolio. I still think there are some good value companies out there that are paying good dividends and that will outperform gold.   Can Starbucks (SBUX) hold on to the recent 25% jump in their stock price? After the news that Starbucks hired Brian Niccol, the CEO from Chipotle, was released, the stock climbed 25%. The question is… can that higher stock price last? Under Brian‘s management at Chipotle, the stock climbed over 700%. Prior to being the CEO of Chipotle, he was the CEO for Taco Bell. They say being at the right place at the right time can help. When he first took over Chipotle, the company was having reputation problems, customer traffic issues, and their stock was struggling from the E. coli and norovirus outbreaks. He came in when the stock was trading at extreme lows and while I believe he did a great job, there was a lot of negativity priced into Chipotle's stock. It's important to understand how much larger Starbucks is and what a different business than Chipotle it is. It operates with 10 times as many stores, a large international business, and it has a packaged food business. I do believe that Brian Niccol has taken on a large order with his new role at Starbucks!   Tesla may be further ahead in self driving then I was aware of On October 10th of this year, Tesla will be holding a robotaxi event for investors. I have said before that the Cruise division from General Motors and the Waymo division from Alphabet are far ahead on public testing for their driverless cars compared to Tesla. I recently saw an article in Barron's that showed data from Tesla that their software has accumulated over 1,500,000,000 miles. The question is will the government accept this software data or not. The government has come down very hard on both General Motors and Alphabet, let's see how they handle Tesla.    The million-dollar home is just not as special as it used to be  Living in San Diego many “normal homes” have surpassed the $1 million mark, but nationwide that trend has also been increasing. In 2023, 7.6% of US homes had a value of $1 million or more. In 2024, that number has now climbed to 8.5% of US homes. That is nearly a 12% increase for $1 million or higher homes. I just don't see how the price of homes can keep increasing at such a pace when incomes are not keeping up and affordability continues to remain a major problem.     Could a potential overbuild of apartments help with housing prices? We have talked many times about the potential overbuild of apartment complexes and now as more projects are finishing, it appears we are finally seeing an impact on pricing. In the month of June, more multifamily units were completed than in any month in nearly 50 years. This is leading to more recent concessions as 33.2% of U.S. landlords offered at least one rent concession. This was up from 25.4% last year. The increased supply also led to a decline in the median asking price for apartments in one- to three- bedroom units in the month of July. This marked the first decline since 2020. According to Redfin data, the median asking rent price for a studio or one-bedroom apartment fell 0.1% to $1,498 a month; two-bedroom apartments decreased 0.3% to $1,730; and units with three bedrooms or more, were down 2.4% to $2,010. I believe this is a major positive as it could help control home prices if renting is a more cost competitive option. It should also be a huge benefit to inflation as CPI has continued to see a major negative impact from high shelter costs.   Can Annuities Lose Money? Annuities are often associated with high fees and limited growth, but in exchange they come with guarantees like lifetime income and downside protection. This begs the question “can they lose money?”, and the answer is “absolutely”! There any many types of annuities and depending on how they are structured and the underlying investments, they can and do lose money despite being conservative. We met with someone this week who purchased an annuity three years ago for about $580,000. Now, even though the market has gone up during that time period, the annuity is worth less than $560,000, not including any surrender charges. How could this product lose $20,000 when most of the market overall is positive? Well, this was a variable annuity which means the account value is invested in a variety of mutual funds. When the annuity was purchased, the agent selected some funds that didn't do too well. On top of that this annuity came with an income rider that includes an additional fee that is deducted from the account balance, further hurting performance. This rider comes with a separate income base that grows at a non-compounded 5% per year, and at annuitization will pay out 3.5% of the income base for life. Basically, this means even if the account balance itself doesn't grow, guaranteed income can still be available from this income base. However, when you look at what this translates too, it does not seem attractive at all. This guy purchased the annuity when he was 58. If he starts collecting lifetime income at 65, he will be over 86 years old before he gets back the money he put in when he was 58. Technically this income is guaranteed for life, but with the fact that a low-interest checking account would have better performance over 30 years, the “guaranteed” benefit loses most of its appeal.   Companies Discussed: Brinker International (EAT), Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), Cisco Systems (CSCO)

Tom Bodrovics welcomes back Professor Vince Lanci, MBA Finance and Publisher of the Goldfix Substack, for a discussion on recent market events. The primary focus is on the past week's stock market drawdowns, which started on August 2nd, possibly influenced by the Yen Carry Trade collapse. Despite no clear catalyst at the time, it's now believed that the Federal Reserve's reluctance to ease, coupled with Buffett's Apple share sale and Citibank's prediction of multiple interest rate cuts, put pressure on banks, leading them to reconsider their stance. The unexpected end to Japan's yield curve control policy caused a blow-up in the Yen Carry Trade as hedge funds were forced to refinance at higher rates, triggering a wave of selling across various markets. Tom asks about possible tensions between Federal Reserve chairman and the Treasury's roles in managing U.S. economic policy. Janet Yellen's handling of monetary policy during her tenure as Fed Chair is critiqued for misallocating funds, creating a false signal about an economic recession, and potentially leading to inflation and higher stocks. Vince shares an intriguing story about a Chinese gold trader causing significant damage to bullion banks. This trader, not typically known for gold trading, had been buying large quantities of futures from Western bullion banks over the counter, leading to losses. The conversation delves into the impact of Yellen's actions on the shape of the yield curve and discusses the sale of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) during the Biden presidency and its implications. They explore whether we still need the same level of oil reserves as in the past, considering changing energy policies and difficulties in producing and storing refined products. The conversation touches on China's growing influence, the importance of ensuring a deflationary crisis for China, discovering new oil and energy sources, and securing global dominance through innovation and geopolitical considerations. Dean Foreman, Chief Economist, Texas Oil & Gas Association joined Grayson Brulte on The Autonomy Economy podcast to discuss key trends and geopolitical issues that are impacting the global oil and natural gas markets. Today, there is record high global demand for oil and natural gas, driven by economic growth and increased consumption of petrochemicals. Despite efforts to transition to renewable energy, oil and gas remain critical to economic activity worldwide and without energy there is no form of economic activity. During the conversation, Grayson and Dean discuss several issues impacting the oil and natural gas markets including the geopolitical factors affecting energy markets, including the U.S. presidential election, potential conflicts in the Middle East, and shifting alliances in Europe. Dean emphasizes the importance of stable policies and international trade relationships for long-term energy investments. The conversation also covers the status of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is at historically low levels. Dean expresses concern about the government's reluctance to replenish the reserve despite potential global instability.Regarding the U.S. economy, Dean notes high levels of consumer debt and its potential impact on spending and economic growth. Grayson and Dean go onto discuss the Federal Reserve's approach to interest rates and inflation and what impact interest rate cuts could have on the oil and natural gas markets.Throughout the podcast, Dean stresses the interdependence of energy markets, economic growth, and geopolitical stability. With regard to energy policy, Dean suggests a balanced approach that recognizes the ongoing importance of oil and gas while also addressing environmental concerns.Recorded on Tuesday, July 2, 2024Episode Chapters0:00 Fed Rate Cut Impact in the Oil & Natural Gas Markets4:39 Oil and Texas' Economy11:27 Exporting Natural Gas to Mexico13:18 Record Demand for Oil & Natural Gas17:29 Argentinean Shale Oil19:30 Impact of the U.S. Presidential Election on the Oil Markets20:48 EU Energy Policies24:20 Currencies Impact on the Oil Markets 27:41 Consumer Debt28:50 Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)36:20 Hurricanes 38:51 Key Takeaways--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy® is a leading source of data, insight and commentary on autonomous vehicles/trucks and the emerging autonomy economy™. Recorded on June 19, 2024 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0iAFs4wde4 Episode 110 of the PetroNerds podcast is a heavy hitting intel dense podcast on everything you need to know about the health of the US economy, the health of the US consumer, inflation, the Federal reserve, interest rates, and how it is all impacting oil prices. Trisha Curtis walks listeners through the US economy and explains how the consumer is being tapped out by high prices and how inflation, not interest rates, are actually driving down inflation to a degree. She explains the impact of high prices on the consumer and what is happening with supposed interest rate cuts, the stock market, and unemployment and jobs. She gets into the type of jobs being added and why the economy and the consumer is not that healthy. She talks about the Consumer Sentiment Survey from Michigan and how it relates to the problems the Biden Administration is having on convincing the US populace that the economy is good and healthy. Trisha talks about employment and job gains and the types of jobs being added and the lack of high paying jobs being added in the economy. Trisha gets into the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and the impact on goods prices, fuel cost. containers, and shipping times. Trisha talks about the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) and oil prices and why the Biden Administration will likely tap the SPR again and lower oil prices before the election. Trisha gets into the "non recession recession" and where the jobs gains are, where they are not, and the fact that a lot of job gains are being filled with immigration. She discusses the impact of immigration on GDP and inflation and housing. She closes this jam-packed PetroNerds podcast by talking about oil prices, risk, the macro, and what is driving oil prices up and down. She covers geopolitics and gets into Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China, Iran and the Houthis, and the push and pull on oil prices. She squeezes in some commentary on US oil production, less rigs, and longer laterals, and Russian and Saudi production and spare capacity. This is an absolutely intelligence packed podcast that you are going to listen to and re-listen to, like, and share with your colleagues and friends. Listen on Itunes

//The Wire//1930Z March 4, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: RED SEA ATTACKS CONTINUE. NATO EXERCISE BEGINS IN FINLAND. TENSIONS MOUNT IN NAGORNO KARABAGH.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Europe: NATO's standard arctic training exercise has begun, taking place this year for the first time in Finland. Normally held in Norway every other year, OPN COLD RESPONSE has been renamed to be OPN NORDIC RESPONSE as of Finland joining NATO last year. This exercise will continue until March 14th.Nagorno-Karabagh – Tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan have escalated over the past few weeks following limited skirmishes in the region. In the Azeri controlled areas, significant construction efforts are underway, with the previous provincial capital building being demolished over the weekend. Limited skirmishes carried out by small patrols have been reported in the northern Azeri-occupied areas over the past few days, causing local concerns that the conflict may flare up again. AC: So far, there are no indications of large military movements from either side, but diplomatic relations are deteriorating which in turn will likely cause more tensions in the near future.Red Sea/HOA: This morning another cargo ship was struck with at least one cruise missile in the Gulf of Aden. Houthi forces claim that the vessel belongs to the Israeli shipping company ZIM, but as the vessel was transiting without emitting transponder data, independent verification will take some time.-HomeFront-USA: Congress is considering the closure of the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve (NGSR). Nestled within the latest thousand-page spending bill, this closure is planned to take place after the U.S. draws down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by one million barrels this year. The NGSR was established in 2014 in response to the effects of Hurricane Sandy which caused widespread fuel disruptions throughout the northeastern United States. In the years since, this reserve has held approximately one million barrels of refined gasoline.PA: A train derailment incident occurred along the Lehigh River in Lehigh County on Saturday morning. Three trains were involved in the derailment after an eastbound train collided with another train stopped on the track. The resulting debris from the first collision resulted in the derailment of a third westbound train on the adjacent track. An unknown quantity of diesel fuel was spilled into the river, but no other HAZMAT was reported. The cause of the incident is under investigation.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Regarding the potential closure of the NGSR, the reduction of strategic POL reserves is not generally recommended for a nation which has increasingly vulnerable energy needs. However, when passed, this would align with the long-standing trend of Congressional bills increasing vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure. The daily impact this would have to average citizens is minimal, but the reduction of critical energy reserves is a consideration in the event that normal fuel delivery services are impacted in some way throughout the region.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

on't look now, but oil prices are surging again, and experts fear it's about to get worse. The price of crude oil reached over $93 a barrel in recent days, the highest of the year and up more than 34% since March. This as the Biden administration just released a new offshore leasing plan with the fewest leases in history, just three in the Gulf of Mexico. At the same time, the administration has depleted our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to a 40-year low, with surging oil prices making it more difficult to replenish. With all of these factors at play, some oil industry leaders are predicting the price of crude will soon pass $100 a barrel and could reach $150. Karr Ingham, petroleum economist with the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, agrees that is a possibility. "Right now, global demand is soaring because of growth, and meeting that growth largely means petroleum energy, as that still powers 80 percent-plus of what goes on in the world today," he says. "If you have growing demand, but not an appetite for increasing production to meet that demand, that's just a recipe for higher prices."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week highlights from Coin Bureau's YouTube channel focus on two critical macroeconomic issues - China and its stance on Taiwan and concerns around global oil prices. Both of these factors will be weighing on any investor's portfolio in some way.   You'll almost certainly be aware of the fact that China has long coveted Taiwan and aims to unite the two countries - by force, if necessary. This dispute has rumbled on for decades, but tensions are currently higher than they have been for a long time. As Chinese president Xi Jinping consolidates his absolute power by securing a third term in office - meaning he is effectively president for life if he so chooses - the likelihood that China will make its move is becoming uncomfortably high.    In the first part of today's episode, we look at some of the main reasons as to why China could be on the brink of invading Taiwan. As US president Joe Biden has repeatedly pledged military support for Taiwan in such an eventuality, the stakes could not be higher for all three countries and the wider world. As we'll see, there are many reasons why China could be readying for a strike and just as many reasons why such a move would have dire consequences for the world.    Next up, we take a look at why oil prices are also something we should all be concerned about (there's not much in the way of good news this week, sadly). The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries - OPEC - the powerful international cartel that sets global oil prices, recently decided to cut production by 2 million barrels a day, meaning the price of oil is set to climb. This obviously has serious consequences for the global economy.   There's also the uncomfortable fact that the US has recently tapped its Strategic Petroleum Reserve - SPR - to make up for the disruption to oil production caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This has helped to combat inflation caused by rising energy costs and insulate Americans from higher prices at the pump. But it also means that the US has decreasing amounts of oil in reserve for an emergency, such as, for instance, a war with China over Taiwan.    So, find a safe spot behind the sofa and have a listen.   We hope you enjoy the show.   Producer for iHeartMedia: Noel Brown Editor: Semir Mutapcic Theme music composed by: Noel BrownSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Johnston explains why he thinks oil will trade “flat to down” in the short-term as he notes that China's zero-covid policy has sharply curtailed oil demand but that may change in 2023. He argues that the release of millions of barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), the U.S.' stockpile of emergency oil reserves, has drastically changed the supply dynamics and has likely depressed the price. Johnston also shares with Farley his views on other important drivers of oil market such as the proposed price cap, sanctions on Russian oil, and the response function from U.S. shale oil producers and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Now, let’s get to the news, starting with Dr. Anthony Fauci! https://www.theepochtimes.com/fauci-reveals-exactly-when-hes-leaving-the-federal-government_4604550.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Fauci Reveals Exactly When He’s Leaving the Federal Government White House COVID-19 adviser Anthony Fauci revealed that after about five decades in the federal government, he’s planning on leaving his position by the end of President Joe Biden’s term. “We’re in a pattern now. If somebody says, ‘You’ll leave when we don’t have COVID anymore,’ then I will be 105. I think we’re going to be living with this,” Fauci, 81, told Politico in an interview published on Monday morning in confirming he’s retiring at the end of Biden’s term in office, which is Jan. 21, 2025. Fauci has been the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. During the COVID-19, he became a household name when he became the face of the federal government’s COVID-19 pandemic response, often generating criticism from Republicans and conservatives about his generally dire predictions about the pandemic. Of his relationship with former President Donald Trump, Fauci said that “we developed an interesting relationship … two guys from New York, different in their opinions and their ideology, but still, two guys who grew up in the same environments of this city. I think that we are related to each other in that regard.” And if Republicans win back either the House or Senate in 2022, Fauci noted that he will likely be investigated by GOP lawmakers. But he claimed that regarding those investigations, “I don’t make that a consideration in my career decision.” However, Fauci has faced public questions from Republicans in Congress about his agency having given funding to third-party groups to carry out research in China. COVID-19, caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, emerged in Wuhan, China, and a significant number of U.S. intelligence officials last year released a report suggesting the virus may be tied to the top-level Wuhan Institute of Virology. Last month, amid questions from Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Fauci admitted that he is not able to halt federal funding from being doled out to researchers in China. “The NIH [National Institutes of Health] is still funding research in China, at least $8 million since 2020,” Marshall said. “In the Intelligence Community’s 2022 Annual Threat Assessment, the Chinese Communist Party is presented as one of the top threats to the United States, along with Russia, Iran, Syria, and North Korea. To my knowledge, only China is receiving U.S. research dollars.” Later, he asked Fauci, “When will you as director of NIAID stop funding research in China?” Federal health agencies, Fauci said in response, “had very productive peer-reviewed highly regarded research projects with our Chinese colleagues that have led to some major advances in biomedical research.” “We obviously need to be careful and make sure that when we do fund them we have the proper peer review and we go through all the established guidelines,” he also said. https://dailycaller.com/2022/07/17/shameful-biden-admin-sold-6-million-barrels-strategic-oil-reserves-china/ Biden Admin Has Sold Nearly 6 Million Barrels Of Strategic Oil Reserves To China The Biden administration sold nearly six million barrels of oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) since July 2021 to a Chinese state-run energy firm, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of Department of Energy (DOE) data. From July 2021 until the end of June 2022, Biden’s energy department auctioned off 5.9 million barrels of strategic reserve oil to Unipec, the trading division of the Chinese state-owned Sinopec, in an effort to increase the supply of oil globally and drive down fuel costs in the U.S. that were exacerbated by the war in Ukraine and Biden’s climate policies. SPR oil is sold to the highest bidder, and some of the businesses entitled to make bids are American subsidiaries of foreign corporations like Unipec The DOE sold four million barrels to Unipec in the fall of 2021, almost six months before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, making over $252 million from the sale, according to the FY22 Emergency Drawdown No. 2 Successful Awards Report. Each barrel was sold on average for roughly $63, or over eight dollars less than the average price of oil per barrel that month. “I think it takes a bad policy and makes it worse,” Ben Lieberman, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. In July 2022 the DOE sold 950,000 barrels to Unipec for roughly $113 million, according to the FY22 Emergency Drawdown No. 3A Successful Awards Report. While the Biden administration claimed the sales will help the U.S. fight “Putin’s price hike,” Unipec is still buying large quantities of Russian oil, according to Bloomberg. “It’s helping out a bit, but it’s still a very bad policy,” Lieberman told the DCNF. “The fact that we’re using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve rather than drilling offshore or getting more oil to the United States through the Keystone XL pipeline, the fact that we’re not doing these things is really pretty shameful.” In April, the DOE also sold 950,000 barrels to Unipec, according to a DOE report. “The Strategic Petroleum Reserve never really was a substitute for that and now to hear that this oil is going to China is problematic because it undercuts their rationale even more,” said Lieberman. “Biden’s policy just shows that he’s not putting American consumers and the American economy first or second or even third.” The DOE, the White House and Sinopec did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. In total, Congress sanctioned $58.55 billion in additional funds, according to the report. This includes $25.70 billion for operations and maintenance, $17.67 billion for procurement, $9.89 billion for research, development, test, and evaluation, $4.32 billion for military construction, and $947 million for military personnel. The DOD initially had a base budget appropriation of $742.3 billion for fiscal 2022. As such, the extra $58.55 billion represents an almost 8 percent increase from the base budget. The Pentagon did not put in a request for any of the programs funded with the extra $58.55 billion. These programs are not even in the so-called unfunded priorities lists—made up of items not included in the budget but considered critical—that departments and officers send to Congress annually. For instance, roughly $4 billion was granted for half a dozen ships that were not on the unfunded priorities list. Similarly, the Navy received $900 million for a dozen Super Hornet jets, the Air National Guard got $1.8 billion to purchase 16 C-130J transport planes, and $460 million was granted for developing advanced jet engines. Over $2 billion in extra funds was appropriated for classified programs. The $58.55 billion calculation only takes into account individual additions totaling $20 million or more. Since there are usually many spending hikes in the single-digit millions, the total actual excess funding will likely be higher. In an email to Roll Call, Steve Ellis, president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a government spending watchdog group, called for more efficient military budgets. “Certainly Congress has the power of the purse, but considering the Pentagon got more than $750 billion that year, lawmakers could work within that generous budget to reflect their priorities … Instead, they dumped more than $50 billion across accounts for what appear to be in some cases very parochial interests.” Since fiscal 2017, the Pentagon’s base budget has risen by 48 percent. The recently passed House version of the 2023 defense budget ups the funding received by the Pentagon, authorizing $839 billion in military spending—$37 billion more than was requested by the administration. And now, it’s time for the topic that I love… sports! Shane Burgos hates how he ended the fight against Charles Jourdain | ESPN MMA - Play 2:25-3:52 Fans anticipated a clash of action-oriented strikers entering the main-card bout. But for two rounds, Burgos was a grappling beast and Jourdain simply couldn’t handle him. Burgos and his Tiger Schulmann’s MMA team anticipated that strategy would work. In a nifty moment early on, Burgos pushed off the octagon to help secure Jourdain’s back and to attack a rear-naked choke from the body triangle in the highest spot of the first round. He took the back with a standing body triangle again the following round, keeping it longer this time. The expected war on the feet broke out in the final round, but the battle was largely one-way traffic. Jourdain cracked Burgos often, besting the local favorite in significant strikes 84-26, per UFC Stats. Now let’s check in on some baseball standings, as I’m sure we’ve got some baseball fans in our audience: Starting in the American League AL East: The New York Yankees are firing on all cylinders, with a 64-28 record, leading all clubs across the Majors as far as best record goes. The second closest record in the AL East goes to the Tampa Bay Rays, a full-13 games back. It’s a close race in the AL Central, as the Minnesotta Twins are leading the way with a 50-44 record, and two teams are nipping at their heels. The Cleveland Guardians, or Indians as I’ll continue to call them, are standing at 46-44. While the Chicago Whitesox sit at 46-46. In the AL West, it’s a two team race featuring the Houston Astros, and the surprisingly hot Seattle Mariners! The Astros sit at 59-32, and the Mariners are 51-42. By the way, the Mariners are on a 14-game winning streak, and on top of that, the Astros and Mariners have a three game series starting this Friday! Over to the National League, the Mets & the Braves are separated by 2.5 games atop the east. In the NL Central, the Brewers are only ahead of the Cardinals by half a game. Each of them have 50 wins a piece. And finally, in the NL West, the Dodgers lead the way with the second best record in baseball, at 60-30. Plug #2: Armored Republic The Mission of Armored Republic is to Honor Christ by equipping Free Men with Tools of Liberty necessary to preserve God-given rights. In the Armored Republic there is no King but Christ. We are Free Craftsmen. Body Armor is a Tool of Liberty. We create Tools of Liberty. Free men must remain ever vigilant against tyranny wherever it appears. God has given us the tools of liberty needed to defend the rights He bestowed to us. In early March, the national average rose to as high as $4.34. Today it’s nearly $4.20, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reported Monday. A chart compiled by gasbuddy.com shows that less than two months after Biden took office, the average price had jumped from $2.37 to about $2.85. A gallon topped $3 in May 2021, then soared to $3.25 by October. At the end of 2021, with the price nearing $3.50, Biden announced the U.S. Department of Energy would release 50 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). One website, DC Business Daily, has been keeping a “Gasoline Misery Index,” which “tracks how much more (or less) the average American consumer is paying for gasoline on an annualized basis.” The site reads, “According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in January 2021 the national average price per gallon of gasoline was $2.33. It has increased nearly 79% when compared to Friday’s national average price of $4.16. With a number that gasolinemiseryindex.com calls the Biden Misery Index, Americans are spending an average of $961 more per year on gasoline today since the president entered office in January.” Gas isn’t the only commodity that has gone up price wise… as the USDA says, Food prices are increasing at their fastest rates in 40 years. According to the USDA’s March report, grocery and restaurant prices will continue to rise between 4.5-5.5% in 2022, with food-away-from-home prices expected to be impacted the most, between 5.5 and 6.5%. Food-at-home prices are expected to increase by 3-4%. https://www.nrn.com/news/food-prices-are-increasing-fastest-rates-40-years-says-usda From February 2021 to February 2022, food prices increased by 7.9%, which was the largest price jump in one year since July 1981. According to the USDA, prices in all food categories are expected to go up throughout the rest of 2022, and at least half of all categories will experience double-digit inflation. Food prices were adjusted upward in this report in all categories except for fruits and vegetables. All of the double-digit categories include: Beef and veal: +16.2% Pork: +14% Poultry: +12.5% Fresh vegetables: +4.3% But hey, while we’re on the subject of buying things… Dime Payments is a Christian owned processing payment business. Apple employees claim it's RACIST to force them to return to a physical office https://thepostmillennial.com/apple-employees-write-open-letter-to-executive-team-claiming-a-return-to-the-office-is-racist?utm_campaign=64487 According to the Postmillennial, over 200 employees at Apple Inc. have signed and published an open letter to the technology giant’s executive team on Friday, arguing that a return to in-person work isn’t in the best interest of the company because it’s racist. “Our vision of the future of work is growing further and further apart from that of the executive team,” the letter reads. The employees go on to argue, a move away from the current work-from-home setup would make Apple’s workforce younger, whiter, male-dominated, and less diverse because in-person work exacerbates a set of privileges. The letter comes amid Apple's soft launch return to the office that would require employees to come in Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Employees can work from home for the remainder of the week and workers can take four weeks out of the year to work from any location they desire. The letter also adds, “Privileges like ‘being born in the right place so you don’t have to relocate,’ or ‘being young enough to start a new life in a new city/country’ or ‘having a stay-at-home spouse who will move with you.” The signatories hope Apple will scrap the hybrid program entirely and allow employees to work from their residences in perpetuity—or, as they put it, allow employees to make that decision for themselves. In addition to objections based on diversity and privilege, the letter also outlines five other reasons: serendipity, collaboration, flexibility, commute, and a chance to prove the effectiveness of remote-work technologies. At the end of the letter, employees call on Apple Executives to show an increased level of flexibility. Apple’s leadership has yet to respond to the letter, though I have a feeling they’ll capitulate given the current cultural climate… and given the current cultural climate, don’t you want to read something that speaks the truth? Sign up today at flfnetwork.com/product/fight-laugh-feast-magazine https://www.foxnews.com/politics/doj-sues-alabama-law-transgender-treatments-for-children DOJ sues Alabama over law making transgender treatments for children a felony Yes, how dare you take away our right to mame and destroy our children’s future of in some cases, having families of their own… According to Fox News, The Justice Department filed a complaint Friday challenging Alabama's Senate Bill 184, which bans transgender treatments for children. The DOJ asserts that criminalizing the sexual transition of children is a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment on the grounds of equal protection. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation this month to outlaw puberty blocking medications for minors. The bill makes it a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, to prescribe puberty blockers or hormones to transgender children to help in their gender transition. Ivey signed the anti-puberty blocker legislation a day after state lawmakers passed the bill. Groups immediately vowed to challenge the law in court. Alabama is the second state to impose a ban on gender-affirming care for minors and the first to impose criminal penalties. A similar measure in Arkansas, which would have banned doctors from prescribing the medications, was blocked by a federal judge. The parents of two Alabama children who identify as transgender joined with two medical doctors in suing Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and other state officials in an attempt to block the state's new law banning cross-sex hormones and so-called "puberty-blocking" drugs for minors. To those parents, the Lord’s judgement is coming for you… that’s all I can say on that. The parents and doctors – represented by a bevy of left-leaning law firms including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and the Human Rights Campaign, among others – claim that S.B. 184, which Ivey signed Friday, violates federal non-discrimination law, including a provision of the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare.
