Mother Found Guilty in 2019 Hanging Deaths of Her Two Children in Berks County

Lisa Snyder, the mother charged in the 2019 hanging deaths of her two young children in their northern Berks County home, has been found guilty. The verdict was delivered late Tuesday afternoon by Berks County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Theresa M. Johnson in a bench trial held in a seventh-floor courtroom. Snyder, 37, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and evidence tampering. The charges stem from the deaths of her 8-year-old son Conner and 4-year-old daughter Brinley, whom Snyder hanged from a beam in the basement of their home in Albany Township on September 23, 2019. First responders found the children unresponsive, and they were flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital. After being taken off life support three days later, autopsies confirmed that both children died by hanging, and the deaths were ruled homicides by the Lehigh County coroner. Throughout the trial, Snyder maintained that her son Conner was suicidal due to bullying and that the incident occurred as a result of his desire to "build a fort" in the basement. However, the prosecution presented evidence contradicting this account, including surveillance footage of Conner appearing happy and untroubled when he arrived home from school on the day of the incident. Further investigation revealed that Snyder had ordered the dog lead used in the hangings the day before the children's deaths and picked it up the morning of the crime. Snyder's Google search history also included visits to a site offering instructions on how to hang oneself, further raising suspicion. Multiple witnesses, including school officials, testified that Conner had never exhibited signs of depression or suicidal thoughts, undermining Snyder's claims that bullying led to his death. Additionally, Snyder's adult son, Owen, testified during the trial, referring to his mother by her first name and stating he no longer considered her his mother—a moment that drew visible emotion from Snyder. Defense attorneys argued that Snyder's long history of mental health issues may have driven her to a psychotic state, but prosecution experts rejected this, stating that Snyder was fully aware of her actions. The trial concluded with a guilty verdict after seven days of testimony. After Berks County prosecutors rested their case on Friday morning, defense attorney Dennis Charles requested an immediate acquittal, arguing that the case was built on speculation, theory, and "all guesswork," according to The Reading Eagle. The request was ultimately denied. Charles argued that Lisa Snyder's internet searches on suicide, hangings, carbon monoxide poisoning, and drug overdoses reflected her own suicidal thoughts rather than an intent to kill her children. He further claimed that prosecutors lacked physical evidence to support their case, and that Snyder's 911 call and the reactions described by emergency responders were consistent with a mother finding her children hanging, not a perpetrator. With the conviction, Snyder faces an automatic life sentence without parole under Pennsylvania law for first-degree murder. She will be sentenced in October.    Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? A federal court has dismissed an attempt by conservative state lawmakers to overturn automatic voter registration in Pennsylvania, along with lawmakers' other challenges to actions designed to boost voter access. The U.S. Supreme Court has heard oral arguments in a case that might require patients seeking abortion care to undergo procedures that some find invasive. The average household wastes about 10 thousand gallons of water a year.  Water providers are encouraging people to conserve their water by fixing leaky faucets and toilets. A pizza shop owner from Pennsylvania's coal region is gaining worldwide recognition. Whoever is behind an emailed bomb threat that prompted police to evacuate large parts of Lancaster on Saturday faces an array of possible criminal charges. The collision of three Norfolk Southern trains in Lehigh County early this month highlights the shortcomings of the automated braking system that was created to prevent such crashes. //The Wire//1930Z March 4, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: RED SEA ATTACKS CONTINUE. NATO EXERCISE BEGINS IN FINLAND. TENSIONS MOUNT IN NAGORNO KARABAGH.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Europe: NATO's standard arctic training exercise has begun, taking place this year for the first time in Finland. Normally held in Norway every other year, OPN COLD RESPONSE has been renamed to be OPN NORDIC RESPONSE as of Finland joining NATO last year. This exercise will continue until March 14th.Nagorno-Karabagh – Tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan have escalated over the past few weeks following limited skirmishes in the region. In the Azeri controlled areas, significant construction efforts are underway, with the previous provincial capital building being demolished over the weekend. Limited skirmishes carried out by small patrols have been reported in the northern Azeri-occupied areas over the past few days, causing local concerns that the conflict may flare up again. AC: So far, there are no indications of large military movements from either side, but diplomatic relations are deteriorating which in turn will likely cause more tensions in the near future.Red Sea/HOA: This morning another cargo ship was struck with at least one cruise missile in the Gulf of Aden. Houthi forces claim that the vessel belongs to the Israeli shipping company ZIM, but as the vessel was transiting without emitting transponder data, independent verification will take some time.-HomeFront-USA: Congress is considering the closure of the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve (NGSR). Nestled within the latest thousand-page spending bill, this closure is planned to take place after the U.S. draws down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by one million barrels this year. The NGSR was established in 2014 in response to the effects of Hurricane Sandy which caused widespread fuel disruptions throughout the northeastern United States. In the years since, this reserve has held approximately one million barrels of refined gasoline.PA: A train derailment incident occurred along the Lehigh River in Lehigh County on Saturday morning. Three trains were involved in the derailment after an eastbound train collided with another train stopped on the track. The resulting debris from the first collision resulted in the derailment of a third westbound train on the adjacent track. An unknown quantity of diesel fuel was spilled into the river, but no other HAZMAT was reported. The cause of the incident is under investigation.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Regarding the potential closure of the NGSR, the reduction of strategic POL reserves is not generally recommended for a nation which has increasingly vulnerable energy needs. However, when passed, this would align with the long-standing trend of Congressional bills increasing vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure. The daily impact this would have to average citizens is minimal, but the reduction of critical energy reserves is a consideration in the event that normal fuel delivery services are impacted in some way throughout the region.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

CHINESE ILLEGAL ALIEN ENCOUNTERS REACH NEW RECORD IN CA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: Over the past few days, CENTCOM has intensified “self-defense” targeting of Houthi sites in Yemen. As has become standard, almost zero information is released regarding these strikes, which have now become routine daily events.-Homefront-PA: A chemical incident at a pharmaceutical packing plant in Lehigh County resulted in over 50 workers suffering minor injuries. No word yet on what the chemical was, but most of the people affected reported headaches and respiratory problems. The cause of the incident has not been disclosed.CA: Customs and Border Patrol statistics released last night indicate that the pace at which Chinese immigrants are encountered attempting to cross the border illegally has increased substantially over the past quarter. In one California district there were more Chinese immigrants illegally crossing the southern U.S. border than Mexicans. Newly released data indicates that since October of last year, 21,000 encounters with Chinese nationals were reported, whereas in the same sector only 18,700 Mexicans were encountered. AC: As the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants no longer originate from Mexico (but rather other Central or South American nations), it is unclear as to how this affects the total numbers. As a reminder, recent DHS testimony before Congress has indicated that over 85% of all illegal encounters result in the illegal alien being released into the United States, rather than being deported.Washington D.C. – No new information has been released by the Pentagon regarding the possibly hostile aircraft over American soil. Pentagon officials continue to claim that both the origin and the intent of the craft is unknown, yet somehow also assessed to be not a threat. AC: As defense officials seem content with leaking information to mainstream sources so as to maintain deniability, rather than calling press briefings to inform the American people, no mainstream media source has updated their articles on this incident at the time of this report. All MSM reporting is circular, originating from the original CBS report.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The timing of the announcement of the unidentified balloon is itself a classic deception tactic. Pentagon officials frequently refer to this as “taking out the trash”, in other words releasing a stack of unimportant press statements on a Friday afternoon when reporters are ready to go home for the weekend (and therefore are assumed to be more complacent than usual). Sneaking critically important reports into the “garbage” and hoping that no one notices has been a tactic utilized heavily by various federal agencies for decades. Releasing critical reports on a Friday afternoon also allows for politicians to have more leeway in providing statements, as the expectation of “traveling” or weekend life enables key figures to hide more effectively from the press.Releasing this info on a Friday afternoon also decreases the potential citizens that could observe the craft, and pinpoint it's location. As most people would be enjoying the start of their weekend, and with nightfall approaching, the timing of the report ensured that by the time any citizen was able to visually see the craft, it would be long out to sea and out of sight. As a reminder, the DoD never released any updated or high-resolution photos of the initial string of spy balloons, only low-res or ground-based photos were provided to taxpayers. Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Nearly two weeks before the collapse of an unsupported four-story brick masonry structure onto the one-story store, Salvation Army officials were warned about the risks posed to the Thrift Store due to ongoing demolition of neighboring properties. The Salvation Army chose to ignore the warnings and failed to notify customers or employees of the danger, resulting in seven fatalities and numerous injuries. After a high-profile 15-week trial, Robert Mongeluzzi convinced the Philadelphia jury that this was no accident, securing a liability verdict, with 75% of the liability for the customers assigned to the Salvation Army and the liability for the employees divided among property owner Richard Basciano, the architect and other parties. Following the liability verdict, Robert Mongeluzzi settled the case for $227 million in the damages phase.  Click Here to Read/Download Trial Documents   Guest Bio: Robert J. Mongeluzzi Robert J. To lead off today's final hour, Dom welcomes Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin back onto the Dom Giordano Program for an update on a situation centered on mail-in balloting in his County. Last time Martin joined, Giordano grilled Martin over his decision to not prosecute multiple alleged incidents of voters depositing more than 1 ballot into drop boxes in the recent election. Martin explains that, while the county will not prosecute the incidents caught on camera, he would like to make the law clear to voters, telling what he and his County will do in future elections to strengthen security. Among other ideas, Martin hopes to add plainclothes officers into polling places to ensure that people don't submit multiple ballots. Also, Martin tells why he's against drop boxes and mail-in ballots, telling the difficulties that arise for his office due to the gray area presented by the initiative. (Photo by Getty Images)
