ADHD inner wisdom manifests in the most common and uncommon places. ADHD overstimulation, distraction, paralysis, and impulsivity is all alerting us to the truth that's not found in our thinking. They are all uncomfortable love letters (they are supposedly to be) to pivot us to presence. Lean into the feeling. Let it move through you. See the illusion. This will automatically pivot you to presence. It's only when we misinterpret these uncomfortable "ADHD signals" as a problem does it lead to suffering. It's just temporary disturbed thought moving through you. There is no meaning in it. No "there there." The truth to who you are is not found in your ADHD.

Toxic shame is a killer. It's an internal message that tells you that you are defective, bad, wrong, and not valuable. Toxic shame isn't personal; it's like poison. It doesn't matter who gives you the poison or who does the shaming, either one will eat away at you and take you down. And, when shame comes flooding in and causes us to retreat into ourselves, our transformation is put on hold while we navigate the toxic shame. Shame and guilt are different: Guilt tells me that I made a mistake. Shame tells me that I am a mistake. I definitely used to feel a lot of shame and wanted to erase myself from life. Over time, I learned how to change my mindset and develop the skills to eliminate the hold that shame had over me. Now, my life's work is to pull others out of that same dark place and into a calm and competent life by sharing the exact roadmap I followed. (note, this was recorded on Saturday Nov 27th for tortoise shack members) On Saturday a small anti-Trans protest took place in Dublin, in what looks like a continuation of a tiny section of the country intent on importing UK/US style culture wars to Ireland. Rather than dwell on their nonsense, we decided to talk with activist, Community Development Officer with TENI and friend of the shack, Lilith Ferreyra-Carroll. We discuss the real crisis facing Trans people when trying to access healthcare, the fact that 'coming out' as Trans can make you fell like less of a person and more like a case study, and the barriers the State put in front of people who just want to live as themselves. We also chat, thankfully, how Ireland, despite the some mainstream elements rushing to embrace it, is not like the US or UK when it comes to these divisive voices. To Help overcome some of the obstacles presented by COVID-19 the jazz band collectively composed, arranged and recorded their own original composition. The arrangement was then assembled using sections arranged by individuals and groups within the ensemble. These parts were then assembled. The full arrangement is more than 7 minutes long and will be played when normal rehearsals resume in the spring, but as part of the final for the class the arrangement was abbreviated and students submitted recordings of their parts, resulting in a 3-minute version of the composition that was then assembled and mixed. They were able to create this in spite of never having played even one note together or meeting in person the entire semester.

You have to figure out who's worth your kindness & who's just taking advantage of you."- UnknownIn episode 15, To Help or Not to Help, Elaina and Tracy discussed the reality of recommending people for jobs, going out of one's way to help someone else, and the common pitfalls of helping and supporting those who may not deserve it. They also explored experiences with the lack of support and challenges in professional settings We help others for the good of our own heart and not expect anything in return. But does that mean that we have to continue to help you after they appear not to appreciate the help or are taking advantage?Professionally, we often find people who are very intelligent and hardworking and motivated. We form bonds based on mutual respect and understanding. When we recommend someone for a job, we are staking our reputation. Sometimes we support people, and they perform well and sometimes not so much. Tracy shared an experience when recommending someone for a position did not go well. Now I am careful to decide whether to help someone or not. Sometimes people use you for their motives and then once reached, will never be back. Please do not take these minor things; they can only burn you once. Life is long. Opportunities come and go. We need people at every point, so we also not need to burn the bridges. Maybe today you need others, and at another point in life, they may need you. Life is always like this. There always be ups and downs, never a straight road. We should listen to people, but still, it should be our choice to help them or not. It may make us feel stressed that it is perceived that we must help others at any cost. When we recommend someone for a job, we are staking our reputation at a certain point. So, we have to have those limits and those boundaries in place. It feels like we're a double minority in the workplace. We are not only deal with all the everyday things as a woman in corporate America, but also, we have to deal with the toxic relationship between another woman in the workplace, and it's unfortunate. I think we have to get to a place where if we started focusing more on ourselves and stop worrying about everyone else and do some good for somebody else. Only If we believe that person deserves it, and if you don't, maybe have a conversation to help them understand what they need to do to earn your help. I'll be honest. Everybody doesn't deserve it. Find another way to give back, and don't let it ruin a friendship or any relationship. But if you are that person that continually puts others' needs above your own and you always put your neck out there for people, don't let the same individual keep burning you. In many of these cases, the runner is shocked to hear that the solution may well be stop doing that stretch every morning. Your CHILDREN Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) As parents we don't lead our children based on our current season or current temperament, but based on THEIR current needs. Your WORKPLACE Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. Ephesians 6:5-9 (NIV) And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. Ephesians 6:5-9 (NIV) Obedience and submission are not the same thing. You can obey and not be submitted in your heart. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Ephesians 6:6 (NIV) Your SPIRITUAL BATTLEFIELD Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:10-24 (NIV) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-24 (NIV) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-24 (NIV) Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Learning to define the work… is key to allowing the work to be finished.
