#56 FemTech Funding: Durchboxen in einer Männerwelt – mit Déborah Loye, CEO SISTA

InnoPodcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2022 54:54

Guillaume's early journey was full of successes and failures, as he so vividly describes. He and his parents grew up on a farm in Southern France. His unbridled ambition is the driving force for putting him in the position he's lucky to be in, today. Before his journey brought him into the world of digital marketing, G was a chemical engineer, having received his first degree from Chimie ParisTech-PSL.Every journey starts with rock-bottom level experiences. G travelled for a year, using social networks to stay at people's homes. He would work in exchange for living accommodations, taking any job he could get his hands on to stay afloat. Once he uncovered his passion, he went back to school to study marketing at HEC Paris, launching his 1st business with his father.Unfortunately the 1st business didn't pan out in the ways he had hoped. As G states: ''When we launched our first website, we only got 6 orders.”The relationship with his father suffered, due to the failures of the business. Following this journey of trials and tribulations, he went into an agency job with his friend, starting with outbound prospecting. He was the Co-Founder of LeadGuru.ioAfter a few months, they generated thousands and thousands in revenue. This, in turn, fostered the love for the industry. Which prompted G to start Lemlist in 2018.If you're interested in keeping up with G's journey, see below for a list of the channels you can find him on:Linkedin Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/-g-/Lemlist Website: https://www.lemlist.com/

Open source software used to be poorly understood by commercial forces, and it's often approached in a biased way. A new generation of investment funds goes to show that things are changing. Open source software is a lot of things to a lot of people. For some people -- engineers, mostly -- it's a way to work on their passion, be involved in a community, and give something back to the world. For others -- business people, mostly -- it's a way to grow projects organically, and sell software without actually investing too much in sales. It's a nuanced topic, and we've tried to explore it from many angles. From the business angle, exploring open source vendors relationships with hyperscalers, mostly Google and Amazon. From the contributor and license engineering angle, exploring different models for commercial open source projects. And from the community angle, exploring metrics for community health and value generation evaluation. Today, we explore open source software (OSS) and its commercialization from yet another angle - the investment angle. There are a couple of venture capitals out there that seem to be ahead of the curve in terms of their understanding of, and investment in, commercial open source companies. Runa Capital is one of them, and we caught up with Konstantin Vinogradov, Runa Capital Principal, who shared views, findings, and outlook for commercial OSS. Article published on ZDNet. Speaking on the REIT Report, Symes noted that even before the coronavirus crisis, the life science sector was at a point where many years of research and development were starting to bear fruit, including less expensive and more accessible gene mapping and personalized medicine. “Life science was on an upswing, regardless,” Symes said, with venture capital inflows into the sector reaching a peak. “The stimulation from Operation Warp Speed and biomedical advanced research and development authority from the federal government is just adding fuel to the fire,” she said.
