What happens when your homeschool plan goes on the road—literally? Today, I'm joined by second-generation homeschooler and seasoned moving pro, Adrienne Denison, to talk about schooling through cross-country moves, starting over in a new place, and making sure your curriculum doesn't get lost between boxes of Legos and winter coats.Adrienne unpacks (pun absolutely intended) the lessons she's learned navigating three major moves in just six months, transitioning her four kids through pivotal school years—and why she's so passionate about not letting perfect get in the way of done. As a CC (Classical Conversations) family and longtime Autopilot user, Adrienne shares her best tactical tips for planning, packing, downsizing, and keeping your school system humming even when life's upside down.If you've ever wondered how to homeschool when your schedule and address are both a moving target, this episode is full of honest encouragement, practical hacks, and permission to let some things go so you can say yes to connection, community, and new beginnings (even if it means doing math on the trampoline). What You'll Learn About Homeschooling While MovingHow Adrienne survived three “mini-moves” in one big cross-country adventureHer secret for never losing track of curriculum (even with boxes everywhere)What to toss, keep, or give away—and why purging was actually a blessingWhy Adrienne doesn't mind letting academics take a back seat after a big moveHow using Homeschool on Autopilot helped her keep everyone on track (and sane)Tips for banking “school days” early and freeing up time for finding new friendsWhy supporting your family's emotional needs is just as critical as checking boxes—and yes, you have permission to lamentAdrienne's best hack for organizing books, prepping for high school, and making your next move smoother (even if it's just down the street)Links and Resources From Today's ShowPut Your Homeschool Year on AutopilotConsistency BootcampClassical ConversationsMagic Number SchoolingDark Clouds, Deep Mercy (book on lamenting)Homeschool Better Together CommunityFor full show notes and a transcript of today's episode, head to pambarnhill.com/hsbt38

And these rules aren't just what I use with my kids as their mother. It's how my husband and I interact, too, which has created a vibrant and fun marriage that we both enjoy! But you know what my favorite part about using these rules as a family? Now that we've been practicing them as a family, the kids use these rules amongst themselves now, too! Hannah Maruyama joins The Homeschool How To podcast to challenge everything you thought you knew about higher education and career success. Having walked away from college at 16 after discovering its politicized environment and questionable academic value, Hannah shares her journey to developing a groundbreaking approach to career preparation that's saving families hundreds of thousands of dollars while launching young adults into thriving careers. The conversation reveals shocking statistics about our student loan crisis. Despite the cultural push toward college, only 7.7% of jobs legally require degrees—a mere 0.3% increase since 1965—yet we've accumulated $1.7 trillion in student loan debt. Hannah exposes how government subsidization of student loans created artificial demand, leading to bankruptcy-exempt debt that follows borrowers for life. Most disturbing is the poor return on investment: only 27% of graduates use their degrees, while the average bachelor's degree costs $104,000 and takes 5.5 years to complete. For homeschooling families, this information is especially valuable. Rather than measuring success by college admissions, Hannah suggests focusing on four key questions: Where does your child want to live? How much money do they need? What schedule works for them? What work environment suits them? From these answers, families can identify careers that truly fit their children's goals and strategically acquire the specific skills employers need—without unnecessary degrees.Through her company Degree Free, Hannah has helped hundreds of young adults identify their ideal career paths and secure high-paying jobs through targeted skill acquisition, often out-earning their degree-holding peers in a fraction of the time and cost. Whether your teens are approaching graduation or you're just beginning your homeschool journey, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on preparing children for genuine success in an economy that's rapidly changing beyond what traditional education can support.https://degreefree.com/Hannah's Instagram TikTok: @DegreeFreeWhat is the most important thing we can teach our kids?HOW TO HANDLE AN EMERGENCY!This could mean life or death in some cases!Help a child you know navigate how to handle an emergency situation with ease:Let's Talk, Emergencies! -and don't forget The Activity Book! The Tuttle Twins - use code Cheryl15 for 15% the age 5-11 series!Support the showInstagram: TheHomeschoolHowToPodcast Facebook: The Homeschool How To Podcast

There's an ongoing commentary that it's impossible to train certain dogs, especially those with high prey drive, to come when called using only reinforcement-based methods. Now, those of us who are reinforcement-based trainers know that it's absolutely possible. The secret lies in understanding the Canine Predatory Motor Sequence. Rather than trying to stop dogs at the end of the sequence when it's way too late, we focus on the early stages and what we want our dogs to do.    In this episode, you'll hear:   • Why some say reinforcement-based training alone can't stop high prey drive dogs. • How the canine predatory motor sequence works and why it matters for your dog's behavior • Why suppressing behavior isn't training, and what I do instead. • The three common ways people deal with behavior problems and which one really works. • How I use predatory redirection to interrupt chase drive. • A real-life example of Prophet ignoring deer just 15 feet away. • How we changed Tater Salad's behavior using relationship-building games. • Special opportunity to join my Home School the Dog program. • Why head halters can act like emergency brakes when you need them. • How I redirect Kim's rescue dog Waffles from distractions to focus back to me and what you can take away from it.   Join Home School the Dog: To join Home School the Dog at a special discount, write to us at wag@dogsthat.com with the subject line: Prey Drive Learn To Play ItsYerChoice: Learn how to play the ItsYerChoice (IYC) Game - https://recallers.com/iycsummit-join/ Hand Target and More Foundational Games Get the Hand Target Game and more foundational training games in our free Connected Dog Season of Nuance Video Series running for a limited time - https://learn.doggyflix.com/   Resources:   1. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast — we're looking deeper into schooling (you guys had so much good feedback last week). We talk about the possibility of starting an at-home daycare (s/o Maria), how we're thinking about community and curriculum, and what our long-term plan could look like if we decide to do school this way. But before that, we're recapping Mother's Day (spoiler alert: Harrison rated his efforts a 6.5/10 and I got food poisoning lol), debating whether you ACTUALLY need to fasten your seatbelt during turbulence, and breaking down the scary moment we had to use the CPR/choking class we took before Tate was born. What if the most thrilling story ever written is one you're ignoring on your bookshelf? Robert welcomes Dr. Samuel Bierig, Vice President of Undergraduate Studies at Spurgeon College, to discuss why so many find the Bible boring when it's actually wildly fascinating. Key highlights: ·       Dr. Bierig introduces his upcoming book "Surprised by the Bible: A Guide for the Perplexed and Bored," which aims to help readers fall in love with Scripture again (or for the first time) ·       The conversation addresses why modern Christians struggle with regular Bible reading despite it being God's direct words to us ·       Dr. Bierig reveals his picks for most underrated biblical books: Numbers, Proverbs, Lamentations, and Jude ·       Practical advice for teaching children to love Scripture through catechisms and connecting Bible readings to Sunday sermons ·       Discussion of how American Christians might return to biblical foundations by making Scripture "the loudest voice in our heads" For anyone struggling with biblical literacy or seeking to deepen their understanding of God's Word, this episode offers practical wisdom on rediscovering the Bible as a living, thrilling text relevant to every aspect of daily life.   Resources: https://spurgeoncollege.com/   Sponsored by Classical Conversations - Parent Practicum Parent Practicum events are hosted around the globe each year, inspiring and equipping parents to become better “everyday educators.” Combining the encouragement of community, integration of ideas, and practice with the classical skills, Parent Practicum is a once-a-year parent investment. This week on The Literary Life podcast, Angelina and Thomas bring us the first of a two-part series on the oft-requested, oft-misunderstood author, Flannery O'Connor. They begin by sharing their commonplace quotes for this week, which leads into the topic of O'Connor, the controversial mid-century southern American author. Angelina gives us a look at Flannery's early life and education, then her adult life and writing career. She also talks about southern culture and Christianity, as well as ways in which O'Connor's work is misunderstood by so many people. Thomas highlights the genre of Southern Gothic literature, and Angelina pushes back on that oversimplification of O'Connor, arguing that she is actually writing in the medieval tradition. Join us back here next week as we discuss O'Connor's short story, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” Now is the time to sign up for the upcoming summer classes and webinars at The House of Humane Letters. Some of the classes highlighted in this episode are Angelina's next installment in her series of classes on Harry Potter and Thomas' class on five famous figures of the Victorian era. Thomas gets to ask the tough questions and put Angelina on the spot in this episode! She begins by sharing her childhood love of books and what her favorite books were when she was young. They then discuss the turning point Angelina had when she read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. She also talk about the reason she so disliked literary analysis when it was introduced in high school and continues to speak out against the new criticism to this day. Thomas and Angelina then turn to her experience in higher education and how she ended up studying and teaching literature. She highlights the impact Flannery O'Connor had on her, as well as studying with Burton Raffel.
