Celebrations are strangely complicated. Sometimes we shy away from them, especially if we're celebrating something about ourselves. Other times we have them but feel pressure to celebrate a certain way, to make everything as sparkly and memorable as possible. I'm not promising that you'll never feel disappointed with your celebrations again, but I do think there's a lot of room to feel greater satisfaction when we mark our moments. The learning continues, and the French language continues to become clearer and clearer with each word I hear. Granted, it is a slow journey of progress, but indeed progress has been made. As I sat watching both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Jeux Paris, I found myself for the first time actually wishing there were no translations as I found I could understand most of what was being said in French (admittedly, I may have paused and rewound a time or two ;)). To recognize words that previously were absolutely babbel to me in years past found me celebrating seemingly small, but, to me, grand progress. With that said, I am not proficient yet, and I have had frustrations, but I have continued forward and I am grateful I have. Part of the reason I want to share my French language journey with you is to encourage and reassure you that the journey will be long, but the progress will be great, and here is the paradox, only if we both run up against frustrations and keep at it. We can do it! I shared in the first post to kick off this year's French Week (the 9th!) that international language institutes have found it takes approximately 600 hours of regular learning of a new language to become proficient (this is for the easier to learn languages, of which French is high on that list, being one of the simpler language to learn - yes, it is true believe it or not ;)). And when you break down how long it takes an average student to cover 600 hours, it looks to be about 2-3 years. Knowing this has eased my mind and reminded me to be patient and remain consistently engaged and surrounded by the language - through taking my courses, doing my homework, studying even when I don't have homework and attempting to speak French in class whenever I have the opportunity. Having concluded FR 202 this past June, two years of online study through Washington D.C. Alliance de Française are behind me and have found me much improved in both my breadth of vocabularly, pronunciation as well as comprehension and yes, even confidence in formulating sentences (however, simple) to carry on a conversation. The last post/episode in this ongoing series was shared back in February - episode #347, when I wrapped up the 100 level, so now I am back to share with you what I have learned during FR 201 and 202. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson U.S. Christian leaders want India designated as dangerous Over 300 Christian leaders from Roman Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Anglican, and Lutheran churches have submitted a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, calling on the US to designate India as a Country of Particular Concern in regards to religious liberties. The letter notes that persecution against Christians in India is now 4.7 times worse than it was in 2010 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came into power. International Christian Concern places India as the third worst persecutor of Christians in the world today. Earlier this year, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom issued a statement criticizing the Biden administration for refusing to include India and Nigeria on the list of Countries of Particular Concern. India's government is headed by a nationalist Hindu party.  And Nigeria's government is headed by a president of Islamic persuasion. As of 2022, the Biden administration has appointed a Muslim, Rashad Hussain, as the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. For example, 52% of the Democrat senators were rated more liberal than Joe Biden in the 2008 legislative session, according to Gov Track.US.  In addition, 17% of the Democrat senators were rated more liberal than Barack Obama in the same legislative season. Regarding Al Gore, 43% of the Democrat senators were rated more liberal than him in the 1990s. Gore was the Democrat candidate who faced off with George W. Bush in the 2000 elections. In 2020, GovTrack marked only 6% of the Democrat Senators as more liberal than Kamala Harris. And, in 2019, GovTrack ranked Kamala Harris as the “most liberal compared to all senators.” Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are radically pro-abortion Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issed a memorandum warning of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's “fanatical” commitment to killing children in the womb. Both candidates fought for policies that would allow babies to suffer and die if they were born alive in an attempted abortion. Both candidates also opposed all legislation that prohibited the coercion of women into abortions. And both have enthusiastically supported increased government funding for abortion. In the cause of all who are appointed to die, open your mouth, judge righteously.” Top 10 most crime-ridden cities Crime dominates in at least 10 cities in America. Newsweek puts the highest robbery rates in the country in these 10 cities — Baltimore, Minneapolis, Chicago, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Seattle, Denver, and Little Rock, Arkansas — all of them blue cities. Man pretending to be a woman sues Liberty University A man pretending to be a woman is suing Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia for what he calls “Unlawful termination” on the basis of his so-called “gender identity.” Jonathan Zinski is seeking $300,000 and a reinstatement to his position on the IT help desk at the Christian college. Liberty University's Doctrinal Statement holds that denial of birth sex by self-identification with a different gender is a sinful act prohibited by God. 191 Olympians embrace homosexual sin (Audio of Olympic theme song) The Olympics have turned homosexual, with 191 athletes claiming to have embraced the sinful lifestyle. That's up from only five in the year 2000.   And, according to Outsports, one third of President Joe Biden's delegation to the Closing Ceremony identified with a sexually perverted lifestyle. China tied with the U.S. for the most gold medals won at the Summer Olympics this year.  That's the second time China has taken first place in history.  The first time was in 2008. In just about a month, on the 26th of July, 10 thousand athletes from all over the world will gather in Paris for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics.  Being an Olympian has a way of consuming a person's image. Olympians dedicate their body and their mind to the perfect backstroke, or the perfect arrow release, or this year – even the perfect breakdancing routine.  So when an Olympic athlete hangs up the towel… who are they? How do you leave behind the biggest S Curve of your life? Although he's better known for the Winter Olympics, Apolo Ohno has some ideas. The most decorated American in the Olympics' chillier half, Apolo is known the world over for his gold-medal talent at speed skating. I wanted to bring back my conversation with Apolo, in light of the Olympic Games on our doorstep, but also as a reminder this summer that although we should honor our past, we are never tied to it when it comes to trailblazing our future. What did retirement look like – what did slowing down look like – for the man who built his career around being the fastest athlete on the ice?
