The memo comes after USDA workers were ordered to scrub mentions of climate change from websites. 2/21 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Director Placed on Administrative Leave Guidance - According to media reports, EPA administrator Lee Zeldin has put the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) director on administrative leave. The GGRF is a $27 billion federal financing program that addresses the climate crisis and is injecting billions of dollars in local economic development projects to lower energy prices and reduce pollution especially in the rural, urban, and Indigenous communities most impacted by climate change and frequently left behind by mainstream finance. 2/27 Hundreds fired as layoffs begin at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Guidance - On Thursday, February 27, about 800 employees at NOAA, the agency responsible for the nation's bedrock weather, climate, fisheries, and marine research, were fired in the latest round of Trump administration-led layoffs. The layoffs could jeopardize NOAA's ability to provide life-saving severe weather forecasts, long-term climate monitoring, deep-sea research and fisheries management, and other essential research and policy. 3/10 Energy secretary says climate change a worthwhile tradeoff for growth Announcement - Speaking at the CERAWeek conference, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the Trump administration sees climate change as “a side effect of building the modern world,” and pledged to “end the Biden administration's irrational, quasi-religious policies on climate change." 3/10 Zeldin, Musk Cut $1.7B in Environmental Justice Grants Guidance - EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the cancellation of 400 environmental justice-related grants, in violation of a court order barring the Trump administration from freezing "equity-based" grants and contracts. 3/11 EPA eliminates environmental justice offices, staff Memorandum - EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin ordered the closure of environmental justice offices at the agency's headquarters and at all 10 regional offices and eliminate all related staff positions "immediately." These chemists, biologists, toxicologists and other scientists are among the experts who monitor air and water quality, cleanup of toxic waste, and more. 3/16 EPA invites waivers on mercury pollution and other hazardous pollutants Memorandum - The EPA invited coal- and oil-fired power plants to apply for exemptions to limits on mercury and other toxic pollutants under the Clean Air Act. Mercury is an extremely dangerous pollutant that causes brain damage to babies and fetuses; in addition to mercury, pollution from power plants includes hazardous chemicals that can lead to cancer, or damage to the lungs, kidneys, nervous system and cardiovascular system. 4/3 Trump administration adds "deregulation suggestion" website A new page on regulations.gov allows members of the public to submit "deregulation" ideas. The move is the latest in the Trump administration's efforts to slash public health, safety, and climate safeguards, and comes soon after the administration offered companies the opportunity to send the EPA an email if they wished to be exempted from Clean Air Act protections. 4/8 Series of four EOs to boost coal EO - Under the four orders, Trump uses his emergency authority to allow some older coal-fired power plants set for retirement to keep producing electricity to meet rising U.S. power demand amid growth in data centers, artificial intelligence and electric cars. Trump also directed federal agencies to identify coal resources on federal lands, lift barriers to coal mining and prioritize coal leasing on U.S. lands. In a related action, Trump also signed a proclamation offering coal-fired power plants a two-year exemption from federal requirements to reduce emissions of toxic chemicals such as mercury, arsenic and benzene. 4/9 Executive Order Attacking State Climate Laws EO - Directs the U.S. Attorney General to sue or block state climate policies deemed "burdensome" to fossil fuel interests — including laws addressing climate change, ESG investing, carbon taxes, and environmental justice. 4/9 New expiration dates on existing energy rules EO - The order directs ten agencies and subagencies to assign one-year expiration dates to existing energy regulations. If they are not extended, they will expire no later than September 30, 2026, according to a White House fact sheet on the order. The order also said any new regulations should include a five-year expiration, unless they are deregulatory. That means any future regulations would only last for five years unless they are extended. 4/17 Narrow Endangered Species Act to allow for habitat destruction The Trump administration is proposing to significantly limit the Endangered Species Act's power to preserve crucial habitats by changing the definition of one word: harm. The Endangered Species Act prohibits actions that “harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect” endangered plants and animals. The word “harm” has long been interpreted to mean not just the direct killing of a species, but also severe harm to their environment

Robert W. Morgan entered the film business sideways. As the director to the 7 month-long 1974 American Yeti Expeditions as cosponsored through the National Wildlife Federation and supported by the 17-member Science Advisory Board of the American Anthropological Research Foundation, he appeared as himself for the televised Smithsonian series Monsters: Myth or Mystery and a Bostonian Films feature-length docudrama. Much of his unprecedented successes resulted from the advice and counsel of Native American elders who shared their legends as recounted in his nonfiction work, The Soul Snatchers as published by Pine Winds Press. The nationwide publicity surrounding Morgan's adventures attracted the attention of Bill Grefe, the president of Miami's Ivan Tors Studios (Sea Hunt, Gentle Ben, Flipper, etc.). Robert provided Grefe with outlines to his future adventures in a film proposal entitled In Search of the World's Mysteries that evolved into Leonard Nimoy's popular TV series In Search Of …. Grefe encouraged Morgan to study screenwriting by working as a crewmember and a bit player in the feature film Impulse with William Shatner and Goldfinger's famous Harold Oddjob SakataStill a neophyte in the ways of Hollywood where iron-clad contracts are necessary to protect intellectual properties from idea-pirates, Morgan's first-draft screenplays evolved into the disastrous Mako: the Jaws of Death and Lucky Lady with Burt Reynolds, Liza Minnelli, and Gene Hackman. Furious, Robert forced Grefe to use a pseudonym on Mako. Robert was then recruited by Miami's Creative Film & Sound to write, co-produce, direct and co-star in its feature film, The Night Daniel Died. No one realized until years later they had made what became cult-classic film, Bloodstalkers. In 2008 alone, Morgan autographed 186 DVDs for domestic and international fans of the action/mystery/horror film aficionados. Not bad for a 30 year-old film. One would think this would launch a new career - and it certainly did, but not as he had planned. With the successful release of Bloodstalkers, the recently paroled CIA spy Frank A. Sturgis (Watergate) approached him to work with the award-winning book author Oscar Fraley about Sturgis' life as a CIA operative. Fraley certainly had the credentials: he had authored 31 books including Hoffa: the Real Story and The Untouchables, a work that sold 1.5 million copies and was made into both a television series and a movie. Robert quickly penned a combined book and film proposal he entitled The Sturgis Files: Lies Our Fathers Told Us. However, before he could swing into action in Florida, Morgan was approached by a private group and offered the opportunity to write and direct a series of adventure films for a studio his group would build for him in Panama. This location would be perfect not only for The Sturgis Files but for three additional properties Morgan had developed. Josef Shaftel, the producer of The Naked Hills, The Sell Out, Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels, etc., arrived from England to introduce Morgan to Hollywood's Richard Fleischer, the director of Tora! Tora! Tora!, Barabbas, Fantastic Voyage, Mr. Majestik, The Boston Strangler, etc. Shaftel and Fleischer had read three of Robert's screenplays and had agreed to the venture. Morgan appeared to be on top of the world - until he discovered the financiers for his films were major Mafia narcotics smugglers his films would be used as a money-laundering scheme devised by the infamous gangster Meyer Lansky. Robert did the unexpected. He gathered detailed information - people, places, actions, documentation - before alerting federal authorities. He then volunteered to work undercover for them for expenses only. What was his motivation? He knew dope peddlers were targeting the playground where his 11 year-old daughter attended school. Episode 38 - Sewage Sludge, The Environmental Disaster You Don't Know About with Dr. David LewisDavid L. Lewis, Ph.D., retired from the U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development in 2003 as a senior-level (GS-15) Research Microbiologist with 32 years of service. He also served on the Graduate Faculty of the University of Georgia, and currently serves on the Science Advisory Board of the Focus for Health Foundation in Warren, NJ (www.focusforhealth.org/davidlewis). His investigations into public health and environmental problems has been published in Nature, Lancet and other leading scientific journals. This research has prompted the EPA, CDC, FDA and other public health organizations worldwide to upgrade infection-control guidelines and certain environmental policies. His research on adverse health effects associated with land application of treated sewage sludges prompted two hearings by the full Science Committee in the U.S. House of Representative, the passage of the No Fear Act by Congress, and a review of EPA sewage sludge (a.k.a. biosolids) policies by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and new CDC guidelines to protect workers handling biosolids. He was awarded the Science Achievement Award for 2000 by EPA Administrator Carol Browner, and the 2018 Distinguished Service Award by the Sierra Club. His book, Science for Sale: How the U.S. Government Uses Powerful Corporations and Leading Universities to Support Government Policies, Silence Top Scientists, Jeopardize Our Health, and Protect Corporate Profits is largely devoted to efforts within government and academia to downplay adverse health effects caused by land application of sewage sludges and improperly designed dental and medical devices. His primary topic is Institutional Scientific Misconduct, a term he coined for panel discussions at Harvard University's JFK School of Government, and the Royal Society of London. It refers to research misconduct sanctioned by government, industry and academic institutions, usually to create a body of bogus scientific literature to protect certain politically and economically favorable government policies and industry practices. If you've been affected by mold and want to contribute to our efforts, visit our Patreon or GoFundMe page to donate today.Patreon - patreon.com/exposingmoldGoFundMe - gofund.me/daf1233eTranscript: https://bit.ly/3mJ2nYf Click here to obtain this show's resources page: https://bit.ly/3Aozi9uFind us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YoutubeSponsors: Michael Rubino, The Mold Medic and All American Restoration, the first and only mold remediation company in the country specializing in remediating mold for people with underlying health conditions or mold sensitivities. Ohio State University's Darryl B. Hood reveals how a database with about 25,000 environmental factors and variables associated with the public health exposome may soon lead to major breakthroughs in addressing disparate public health outcomes in various communities. He also shares with co-hosts Anne Chappelle and David Faulkner his experiences from a lifetime of firsts—from being a plaintiff in Brown v. Board of Education to transitioning from an HBCU (historically black college and university) to a program where he was the only Black man. About the GuestDarryl B. Hood, PhD, is an Associate Professor and environmental neuroscientist in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences in the Ohio State University College of Public Health. Dr. Hood received a BS in biology and chemistry from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a PhD in biochemistry from the Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center in Molecular Toxicology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1993, Dr. Hood accepted a position at Meharry Medical College and served meritoriously until 2013 on the faculty of both Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience. During this time, he received over $11.2 million dollars of research funding. From 2006 to 2011, Dr. Hood led what has come to be known as the most successful Minority S11 NIEHS-sponsored initiative, referred to as the Advanced Research Cooperation in Environmental Health (ARCH) Program. The research conducted under this consortium ultimately contributed to the scientific database that the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) used to reassess the levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emissions from smokestacks. Such reassessments have resulted in public policy changes that will serve to decrease the adverse health effects associated with environmental exposures. The Meharry Medical College-Vanderbilt University ARCH Consortium was recognized as being at the interface of successful P01-like research programs in general, and for systems toxicology research in particular. This construct served as the template that then–NIH Director Dr. Elias A. Zerhouni used as the viable, futuristic model for the development of effective scientist-to-scientist interactions between research-intensive universities and historically black colleges and universities. At the Ohio State University, Dr. Hood has continued his innovation in discovery as the co-architect of the novel Public Health Exposome framework. This paradigm-altering framework interrogates hypotheses focused on determining if there are associations between the built, natural, and social environments and disparate health outcomes observed in vulnerable populations. Collectively, Dr. Hood has 105 peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters, and has mentored over 15 MSPH/MPH candidates, 15 PhD candidates, and nine postdoctoral fellows. He continues to serve on numerous editorial and review boards for scientific journals, government agencies, and academia. Most recently, from 2010 to 2016, he served on the US EPA Exposure and Human Health Subcommittee of the Science Advisory Board.DisclaimerThe viewpoints and information presented in Adverse Reactions represent those of the participating individuals. As the Biden administration gets it appointees in place, EPA Administrator Michael Regan has been doing what he calls a full reset of the agency’s Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee. That means firing all 49 members, some of whom still had years left in their terms. For what this all means, Federal News Network’s Jory Heckman spoke with the former director of the board’s staff office, Chris Zarba.
Environmental health scientist Peter Thorne of the University of Iowa joins Ben Kieffer. Thorne is a former chair of the EPA’s Science Advisory Board.
We are talking about brain health, and how to preserve yours. Our guest today is the amazing Dr. Annie Fenn, OB/GYN turned chef and brain health specialist. Annie explains how what we eat drastically affects the health of our brain as we age, and how good food choices can minimize our risk of Alzheimer's and other dementias. Listen on to hear what is good for your brain health and what you might want to avoid. Dr. Annie Fenn is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist specialized in menopausal health. After practicing medicine for more than 20 years in Jackson, WY, she realized that helping people change what they eat was just as effective a health-giving intervention as prescribing pills or procedures. She traded her stethoscope for an apron and went back to school to study culinary arts in Mexico, Italy, and at the Culinary Institute of America. In 2015, Dr. Fenn founded the Brain Health Kitchen, and evidence-based online resource about how and what to eat to resist cognitive decline. The Brain Health Kitchen Cooking School, founded in 2017, is the only school of its kind focused specifically on fending off Alzheimer's and other dementias. Students learn which foods are most neuroprotective, which ones accelerate cognitive decline, and how to prepare foods using brain-friendly cooking techniques. Dr. Fenn partners with the Aspen Brain Institute as the host and moderator of a Brain-Healthy Cooking series with leading neuroscientists and physicians in the brain health world. Dr. Fenn takes her cooking school on the road to provide classes throughout the country and abroad. Dr. Fenn lectures frequently about the impact of lifestyle and diet on Alzheimer's risk as part of the Sempre Sano Wellness Retreat in Tuscany, Italy, as a frequent Visiting Chef at Rancho La Puerta, and at diverse venues throughout the country—women's and men's groups, churches, schools, and wellness retreats. To date, more than one thousand participants have enrolled in the hands-on cooking school. Dr. Fenn serves on the Science Advisory Board for actor Seth Rogen and his wife Lauren's HFC (Hilarity For Charity) where she also creates content geared towards helping caregivers eat for brain health. She partners with Maria Shriver and the Women's Alzheimer's Movement to host events to fund grants for female-specific dementia research. She serves on the Scientific Advisory Council for the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation and is a Scientific Advisor for NeuroReserve. Dr. Fenn is currently under contract with Artisan Books for a science-based brain-healthy cookbook due out in 2022. A 25-year resident of Jackson, Wyoming, Dr. Fenn has served on the boards of Community Safety Network, Teton County Public Health Department, Teton Science Schools, and Hole Food Rescue. She partners with the local hospital to provide the Brain Works 7-day Boot Camp, a novel community-based dementia prevention program. When not developing recipes, writing, or teaching the Brain Health Kitchen method of cooking, Dr. Fenn enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, fly-fishing, and foraging for mushrooms and huckleberries with her husband, sons, and dogs Orzo and Olive Oyl. From extended COVID-19 shutdowns to unexpected government fines, owners of alcohol-related businesses in North Carolina have faced special challenges in the past year. John Trump, Carolina Journal managing editor, recaps some of the industry’s key concerns. Bar owners and operators across North Carolina filed lawsuits just before the Christmas holiday. The suits challenge the executive orders Gov. Roy Cooper has used during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep bars shuttered. Jessica Thompson, attorney with the Pacific Legal Foundation, discusses the suit she filed on behalf of owners of a popular Greenville bar. It has been closed for more than nine months because of government mandates. The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to decriminalize marijuana. Among those objected: U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop, R-9th District. During a speech on the House floor, Bishop outlined his concerns about potential negative consequences of changing marijuana’s legal status. Voters selected Mark Robinson to serve as North Carolina’s first black lieutenant governor. The second-highest-ranking office in state government’s executive branch marks Robinson’s first job as an elected official. During a recent online forum for the John Locke Foundation, Robinson highlighted his top priorities for his new role. The head of North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality, Secretary Michael Regan, has been nominated to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under President-elect Joe Biden. Former DEQ Secretary Donald van der Vaart, now a John Locke Foundation senior fellow, discusses Regan’s potential impact at the EPA. Van der Vaart also discusses his own reappointment to the EPA’s Science Advisory Board.

In this episode we are joined by Oceanographer and Geoscientist, Dr. Joellen Russell. Joellen is Professor and the Thomas R. Brown Distinguished Chair of Integrative Science at the University of Arizona Department of Geosciences. Joellen is the lead for the modeling team of the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling project (SOCCOM), a multi institutional program based at Princeton focused on unlocking the mysteries of the Southern Ocean. She serves as the Co-chair of the Science Advisory Board’s Climate Working Group at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA. Before joining the University of Arizona, Dr. Russell was a Research Scientist at Princeton University and NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (NOAA/GFDL). She received her A.B. in Environmental Geoscience from Harvard and her PhD in Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. Prof. Russell is one of the 14 scientists behind an amicus curiae brief supporting the plaintiff in the historic 2007 U.S. Supreme Court decision on carbon dioxide emissions and climate change, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, et al. v. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Joellen's research uses global climate and earth system models to simulate the climate and carbon cycle of the past, the present and the future, often utilizing satellite data, floating robotic ocean sensors known as Argo floats, and cutting edge supercomputers. Her work on the westerly winds led to the creation of a new paradigm in climate science, namely that warmer climates produce stronger westerly winds. This insight solved one of the long-standing climate paradoxes, the mechanism responsible for transferring one-third of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere into the ocean and then back out again during our repeated glacial-interglacial cycles. Joining a pet food start-up in 2019 as their in-house vet, I appeared in several newspapers, radio shows and magazines talking about dog health. During this time I also completed invaluable further study into Small Animal Clinical Nutrition, learning how food can complement health and stabilise disease. I left the start-up in January 2020 to set up Pet Wellness Expert and focus on my passion for proactive health. Alongside Pet Wellness Expert I consult as a veterinary advisor and sit on the Science Advisory Board of a US pet healthcare company, as well as being a doting dog-mum to my wonderful Maltipoo Eddie. I am a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and am delighted to have been a ‘Vet of the Year 2020' nominee.
Someone may have obesity, but they're not obese. This episode is a lesson in language, understanding and mindset. The programme is based on standards created by Plus Size Certified, through a consolidation of medical, government and health research data. From making adaptable changes to a physical environment’s fixtures and fittings, to anti-stigma and anti-bias training, our experts at Plus Size Certified will help ensure that a business becomes and maintains a safe haven for every individual of any size. For more information visit https://www.plussizecertified.org/ Episode highlights: The real actionable points to overcoming low frustration tolerances to the COVID climate, and how you can free yourself from negative thoughts to get through it. Understand your own self worth through physical, emotional, mental and spiritual capacity and how you can embrace your life as a corporate athlete or just grow to be a better person and grow. The difference between training and coaching, and which is more beneficial to growth and understanding in wellbeing. Why it's better to say that people have obesity, rather than that people are obese. Diet and exercise doesn't work on its own. We have to work on what people think. How there is no such thing as motivation and why progress is more about taking away the blocks to progress. Why the term “personal trainer” diminishes the experience and knowledge that most fitness professionals have, and what the better alternative is. Why it's important to be inclusive of everyone, especially in healthcare facilities and gyms, to remove bias and stigma so that a facility is inviting people in instead of making them feel unwelcome. What would happen if gyms became the aftercare centres for surgeries, and how this would truly embrace fitness as both recovery and prevention for long term conditions. Why someone can have obesity and be fit, or conversely be thin and by unfit. How a healthy lifestyle and self acceptance is much more important. What you can do as a fitness professional in order to promote holistic healthcare and really make a difference on a local level through the experience in yourself / your staff at your facility or in your business. How to create these integrated healthcare opportunities for yourself in order to create a real preventative approach. If you want to know why more effective long-term healthcare initiatives have not been put in place, follow the money. Cure is more lucrative for governments than prevention. We have to work as an industry to change this for as many people as possible. What will bring success from gym leaders thinking in the long term and how clubs can become more fully-functioning to touch the lives of more people. Why the next version of the gym is going to be about education and training, socialisation, camaraderie, preventative health and no longer just about lifting weights. How faith is anchored in trust and hope, and why this can lead you to a life of no limits. Join Matthew Januszek in conversation with Dr Michael Mantell…

*Guest: Dr. Kenneth Warner, Dean Emeritus, Prof. Emeritus, School of Public Health, University of Michigan | Member of FDA's Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee and Health Canada's Science Advisory Board on Vaping Products It's a turbulent time for vaping. Over the past 24-months the industry struggled to manage one crisis after another: panic over the so-called teen vaping epidemic; hysteria over the so-called vaping-related lung illness; a mad rush to ban vaping products; and vicious attacks by anti-vaping activists exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic for ideological gain. All the while, fending off an endless stream of suspect science and a rowdy regulatory process. Essentially, the turbulence is fueled by a battle within public health over tobacco harm reduction; the divide is continental, both in space and mind. Joining us today to talk these issues and more is Dr. Kenneth Warner. Over his 45-year career, he's presented in over 250 professional publications, served as the World Bank's representative to negotiations on the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (the world's first global health treaty,) served as Senior Scientific Editor of the 25th anniversary Surgeon General's report on smoking and health and was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Truth Initiative. What insights will he share about the issues and challenges facing vaping? When the scientists at EPA Headquarters formed a union in the early 1980s, one of the first complaints they received was from an employee who was being pressured to conceal the adverse health effects of artificial water fluoridation. In this interview, author Melissa Gallico interviews Dr. Robert Carton, one of the first presidents of the union, who explains how the union fought to expose the scientific fraud at EPA that allows the reckless practice of public water fluoridation to continue to this day. Dr. Robert Carton was a chemist and risk assessment manager at the Environmental Protection Agency from the 1970s to the 1990s prior to taking over as the Chief of Environmental Compliance at the U.S. Army Medical Research Command at Fort Detrick in Maryland. In today’s episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk to Dr. David Jenkins, the man behind the glycemic index. Dr. Jenkins’ name is not that famous, but his research is and we see his name being spoken more and more. This is due to his amazing work and speaking engagements within the vegan community. Dr. Jenkins starts his talk with us by reminiscing about growing up in Europe and spending time with his aunt on their property about his love and excitement for all things Christmas. This ended up being the catalyst for him giving up meat and instilling worry and fear about his overall health with his mother. Little did she know, that he would grow up, create the ever-popular glycemic index and reside here, in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Jenkins explains how the glycemic and bread index works, how fiber is the answer, what you need to know about diabetes and how pooping on demand is just not weird. His opinion on oil and nuts is quite interesting and you’ll definitely want to hear about his opinion on soy products for women with breast cancer. Dr. David Jenkins is a University Professor, and Canada Research Chair in the Departments of Nutritional Sciences and Medicines, a staff physician in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, the Director of the Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Center, and a Scientist in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael’s Hospital. He was educated at Oxford University, obtaining his DM, DPhil, and DSc. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Dr. Jenkins has served on committees in Canada and the United States that formulated nutritional guidelines for the treatment of diabetes and recommendations for fiber and macronutrient intake under the joint US-Canada DRI system (RDA) of the National Academy of Sciences. He also served as a member of Agriculture Canada’s Science Advisory Board (2004-2009) on the future direction of Canada’s agriculture and agricultural research. He has spent much time working with the food industry to develop products for the supermarket shelf and, for example, helped to initiate Loblaw’s ‘Too Good To Be True’ and most recently their popular “Blue Menu” line of products. His research area is the use of diet in the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia and diabetes. He has over 300 original publications on these and related topics. His team was the first to define and explore the concept of the glycemic index of foods and demonstrate the breadth of metabolic effects of viscous soluble fiber, including blood glucose and cholesterol lowering. His group developed the cholesterol-lowering concept of the dietary portfolio that has entered guidelines in many jurisdictions (e.g. CCS, Heart UK etc.). He believes in the therapeutic value of plant based-diets and that diets have to be environmentally sustainable. In this episode we discuss: Becoming vegetarian What’s in the hamper The connection between pets and food The impetus for creating the glycemic index Pooping on demand Enzymes Diabetes The misuse of the glycemic index Running away from carbohydrate Mars Bars Processed foods Oils, Nuts and stole and cardiovascular disease Favorite meal Tofu, soy and breast cancer Shanghai women’s breast cancer study Message for the masses for creating a better world Links to things we mentioned: – use code “PlantTrainers” for 20% off Dr. David Jenkins – – Dr. David Jenkins Beyond Carnism and Improving Relationships with Dr. Melanie Joy – A Forefather of Plant-Based Nutrition, Dr. Caldwell Essylsten – Thank you to this month’s Patrons for supporting us on : “Joe” Millie Pearson Mary Lou Fusi Carmen Fanous Emily Iaconelli Spanish Armada Michele Olender Don’t forget to contact us at with your question for our Plant Trainers Facebook Lives! It's the individual's inner-stance about their digital circumstance. It is the preference and the perceived value of the device to the client that will elicit sustainable change. For health coaches, yesterday the gym was it. Today, it's the medical fitness center, but tomorrow, when everyone wakes up, the new model is going to be the optimal health center. Robots and artificial intelligence are now capable of diagnosing emotions in clients and Dr. Mantell predicts it is only a matter of time before robotics and artificial intelligence will work their way into health clubs. This modality has already been seen in active aging groups, small health groups, and in studies at Harvard. Power Quotes From Dr. Mantell "For health coaches, yesterday the gym was it.
