TP491: The Five Signals: How Healthcare Keeps Missing What's Already Visible

Chris Boyer and Reed Smith run a forensic walk through five dated, citable moments where the future of healthcare consumerism was sitting in published research before the industry moved. The Pew health-seeker data in 2000. ePatient Dave's "Gimme My Damn Data" keynote in 2009, which took twelve years to reach the Information Blocking Rule. Mobile crossing into everyday health behavior by 2012. Apple, Amazon and Haven all declaring healthcare a priority inside twelve months in 2018 and 2019. Peer-reviewed AI matching dermatologists in 2017, three years before most people had heard of ChatGPT. The signals were never really about the technology. Each one was a permission a consumer gave themselves. Permission to research without asking. Permission to demand their data. Permission to expect everywhere and anytime. Permission to compare a hospital to Apple. Permission to skip the front door. Name the permission and you have found the signal. Five artifacts, each with a date and a source, and the same defensive industry response to all of them A six-marker test that tells you whether you are inside a signal while it is still a signal, not after Why the permission shift is the marker most teams miss, and the permission patients are taking right now The scoreboard for today: agentic AI as the new front door, the death of click-through, the restructuring of primary care, and voice The one current signal that breaks the pattern, and why ambient documentation moved fast when nothing else did The honest finding is uncomfortable. Three of today's four signals score 5 or 6 out of 6 on the same markers that flagged every past miss. The fourth, voice, scores about 3, and it shows what breaks the pattern. Ambient documentation moved quickly because it helps clinicians and patients in the same motion, so the internal politics line up instead of fighting. If you can name the permission your patients are taking right now, you have found the signal. The only question left is whether you act inside the window or wait for the deadline. *Bronnen* DigiD / Solvinity - NOS: https://nos.nl/artikel/2615885-staatssecretaris-verbiedt-amerikaanse-overname-solvinity-bedrijf-achter-digid - Wet OZT: https://wetten.overheid.nl/BWBR0045423 - Wet VIFO: https://wetten.overheid.nl/BWBR0046686 RSI - TechCrunch: https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/28/rsi-is-the-new-agi-and-its-just-as-hard-to-pin-down/ Kali365 - FBI IC3: https://www.ic3.gov/PSA/2026/PSA260521 - BleepingComputer: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/fbi-warns-of-kali365-phishing-service-targeting-microsoft-365-accounts/ ASocks / residential proxies - Politie: https://www.politie.nl/nieuws/2026/mei/28/06-politie-en-ncsc-halen-groot-botnetwerk-offline.html - NCSC expertblog: https://www.ncsc.nl/expertblogs/residential-proxies-en-hun-grote-impact-op-de-digitale-veiligheid-in-nederland - NCSC nieuws: https://www.ncsc.nl/nieuws/gezamenlijke-actie-politie-en-ncsc-legt-groot-botnetwerk-plat - Security.nl: https://www.security.nl/posting/938396/Proxy-botnet+van+17+miljoen+apparaten+na+actie+politie+en+NCSC+offline?channel=rss Maschmeyer / AI - CV Maschmeyer: https://www.lennartmaschmeyer.com/CV_Lennart_Maschmeyer.pdf - Paper: https://doi.org/10.1162/isec.a.398 - M-Trends 2025: https://cloud.google.com/security/resources/m-trends

Send us Fan MailDenis Villeneuve, Cybersecurity and Resiliency Practice Lead at Kyndryl, examined the profound implications of frontier AI models—such as Mythos—for enterprise cybersecurity, framing the challenge as a strategic decision-making mandate rather than a cause for alarm. While core cybersecurity principles remain foundational, the acceleration of AI-driven vulnerability discovery and exploitation marks a pivotal shift from human-speed to machine-speed responses. This evolution is creating a widening “cyber poverty line,” separating resilient organizations from those unable to manage the exponential surge in patch throughput required for modern vendor and open-source ecosystems. The transition toward agentic AI introduces a new layer of governance and deployment risk. To navigate this, Denis emphasized the necessity of robust agentic frameworks that incorporate human-in-the-loop guardrails and role-based agent deployment within SOC workflows. Achieving C-suite alignment is critical to curbing the proliferation of shadow AI and shadow IT, ensuring that innovation remains under centralized governance. While the tools are changing, the solution remains rooted in the synergy of people, processes, and products, with a renewed focus on the basics: rigorous patching, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, and defense-in-depth.Looking forward, organizations must evolve their existing compliance frameworks—such as PCI—and mobilize cross-functional “tiger teams” to manage high-stakes communication and response plans.See previous podcast with Denis: https://www.e-channelnews.com/kyndryl-on-cyber-resilience-bridging-readiness-gaps-and-navigating-ai-threats/

Kris Lovejoy, Global Strategy Leader at Kyndryl, has spent her career at the intersection of IT infrastructure and security. Right now, she's one of the people enterprises call when they want to move from AI experimentation to real deployment. Her diagnosis is clear: agentic AI is a bullet train sitting on tracks built for 30 miles per hour. The technology is ready. Most organizations aren't, and the gap between a successful pilot and a production system running at scale is far wider than the hype suggests. In this conversation with Craig Smith, Lovejoy walks through why IT service management is the smartest entry point for agentic adoption, how cost savings of up to 90% in that area can fund broader modernization, and why the security risks in agentic systems are less about sophisticated hackers and more about misconfiguration, bad context, and human error. She closes with a specific prediction: half of traditional IT administration tasks will be handled by AI agents by 2031, and a surprising take on who will actually thrive in the agentic era: not coders, but people trained to ask the right questions. For anyone making decisions about AI adoption, this is the most practical conversation available right now. Today’s headline news for Canadian IT solution providers: inforcer launches Copilot Manager: inforcer has released its new Copilot Manager feature, giving MSPs in-depth visibility into Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption and shadow AI usage across customer tenants. According to the company, as many as 80% of SMB employees are using unauthorized AI tools at work, and IBM research cited by inforcer suggests organizations with high shadow AI exposure average $670,000 more in breach costs. The tool builds on the company’s earlier Copilot Readiness Assessment and has already been trialed in beta by more than 200 MSPs globally. SUSE launches Sovereign Partners Specialization: SUSE has announced a new Sovereign Partners Specialization at its SUSECON 2026 conference in Prague, designed for MSPs and channel partners operating in sovereign cloud environments. The specialization is structured as an agile layer on top of SUSE’s existing partner program, targeting partners who already hold sovereign field certifications and know the SUSE technology stack. For Canadian solution providers, the timing aligns with accelerating data sovereignty requirements under OSFI E-21 and Quebec’s Law 25. Cayosoft launches Microsoft Migration Services: Cayosoft has launched a full-cycle Microsoft identity migration service delivered in partnership with XMS Solutions, covering Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint, and Teams. According to the company, the offering addresses the security exposure that persists after migrations that close on schedule but leave behind broken permissions and unmanaged identity drift. The service spans pre-migration assessment through post-migration monitoring and governance. Kaseya unveils Agentic IT Management Platform: Kaseya has announced what it is calling the first Agentic IT Management Platform, powered by a proprietary dataset the company calls Kaseya Intelligence, combining real-world IT data with an execution layer designed to act autonomously on behalf of MSPs. GuidePoint Security wins CrowdStrike Americas Partner of the Year: GuidePoint Security has been named CrowdStrike’s 2026 Americas Partner of the Year after the two companies surpassed $1 billion in cumulative joint sales, a milestone the company is positioning as validation of its managed security practice. Dyna Software showcases Platform Copilot at Knowledge 2026: Dyna Software is demonstrating Platform Copilot at ServiceNow Knowledge 2026, positioning the tool as a way to generate ServiceNow environment configurations from natural language inputs and images, reducing prototyping time for implementation partners. Kyndryl pushes AI deeper into IT operations: Kyndryl has announced updates expanding autonomous AI capabilities across its global IT operations practice, extending AI-assisted resolution workflows for its managed services engagements. Upwind adds Windows Server runtime visibility: Upwind has launched runtime visibility support for Windows Server virtual machines running across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, closing a cross-platform gap in its cloud-native security coverage. Read Full Transcript Welcome to The Buzz from ChannelBuzz.ca, I’m Robert Dutt, today is Friday, May 8, 2026, and here’s what’s happening in the channel today. Managing Microsoft 365 Copilot is becoming a genuine operational challenge for MSPs, and a company called inforcer is positioning itself as the answer with the launch of its new Copilot Manager feature. The company, which makes Microsoft 365 multi-tenant management software for managed service providers, says Copilot Manager gives partners in-depth visibility into Copilot adoption trends across all client tenants, and – critically – the ability to monitor shadow AI usage. According to inforcer, as many as eighty percent of SMB employees are bringing their own AI tools to work, using unauthorized or open-source applications that increase the risk of data leakage. The company cites IBM research suggesting one in five organizations have experienced a breach due to shadow AI, with those carrying high shadow AI exposure averaging six hundred and seventy thousand dollars more in breach costs. The business case here is straightforward for solution providers. Copilot has crossed twenty million paid seats. The licensing is in motion. What most MSPs lack is the infrastructure to make Copilot governance a repeatable, billable service rather than a one-time check-in conversation. Copilot Manager has already been trialed in beta by more than two hundred MSPs globally, and the company says it builds directly on a Copilot Readiness Assessment tool released last year, giving partners a documented progression from pre-sales evaluation through ongoing managed AI services. SUSE has launched a new Sovereign Partners Specialization as part of its channel program, a move that carries meaningful implications for the Canadian market. The announcement came at the company’s annual SUSECON conference in Prague last month, with details emerging publicly this week. SUSE is positioning the specialization as an agile layer on top of its existing partner program, designed specifically for early-mover partners who already hold sovereign field certifications and are invested in the sovereign technology market. According to Hayley Wienszczak, SUSE’s head of global partner programs and success, the initial go-to-market will focus on existing SUSE MSPs who know the technology stack, working jointly to onboard the first reference customers onto a full SUSE sovereign stack. More than ninety-eight percent of SUSE’s business runs through partners, and the company is framing the sovereign play as an opportunity to lock in that partner ecosystem around an emerging but fast-growing requirement. For Canadian MSPs, the timing aligns with accelerating regulatory pressure around data sovereignty – OSFI’s E-21 guideline on technology and third-party risk, Quebec’s Law 25, and federal Protected B requirements are all pushing enterprise buyers toward environments where data residency is a verifiable, contractual commitment rather than a vendor promise. SUSE is also opening co-sell registration to ISVs and system integrators alongside MSPs as part of the same program update. Earlier this week, Cayosoft launched a full-cycle Microsoft identity migration service that it says is designed to address the ongoing risk that sits inside most Active Directory and Entra ID environments. The offering, called Cayosoft Microsoft Migration Services, is being delivered in partnership with XMS Solutions, a long-time provider of migration and cybersecurity services. According to the company, the service covers Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and related identity infrastructure, and spans the complete lifecycle from pre-migration assessment through phased execution, data integrity validation, and post-migration monitoring, governance, and recovery. The launch targets a specific and frequently mismanaged problem: migrations that declare success on go-live day while leaving behind broken permissions, duplicated identities, and poorly governed access that creates security exposure for months afterward. Cayosoft is specifically calling out M&A, divestitures, and consolidation scenarios as high-risk contexts. For Microsoft-focused channel partners, the model Cayosoft is describing – migration as the front door into a longer-term identity management and recovery engagement – represents a services motion that can extend well beyond the initial project. Partners who have historically treated Active Directory migrations as one-time engagements may find this a useful framework for repackaging that work as an ongoing managed practice. In Brief Kaseya has unveiled what it is calling the first Agentic IT Management Platform, powered by a proprietary dataset the company calls Kaseya Intelligence.  GuidePoint Security has been named CrowdStrike’s 2026 Americas Partner of the Year after the two companies surpassed one billion dollars in cumulative joint sales.  Dyna Software is showcasing its Platform Copilot at ServiceNow Knowledge 2026, positioning the tool as a way to generate ServiceNow configurations from natural language and images.  Kyndryl has announced updates pushing AI deeper into its IT operations practice, expanding autonomous resolution capabilities across its global managed services engagements.  Upwind has launched new runtime visibility support for Windows Server virtual machines across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, addressing a gap in cross-platform endpoint coverage.  Full details and links in the show notes or the blog post. Later today on In The Channel, we continue our Knowledge 2026 series with Cristin Gooderham, area vice president of Canada enterprise sales at ServiceNow, on what the shift to agentic business looks like from a Canadian market perspective. And if you haven’t heard it yet, yesterday on In The Channel we published my conversation with Michael Park, ServiceNow’s global channel chief, on why the company put its AI product leader in charge of the channel – and what that means for how partners get built and compensated going forward.  That’s how we’re seeing the headlines today. He also highlights the next frontier: multi‑agent orchestration for end‑to‑end travel experiences. David Faircloth, VP of Technology Architecture & Engineering at Wendy's, explains how the company achieved 99.95% availability by focusing first on people, trust and organisational design before technology. David discusses Conway's Law, platform engineering, and why AI is “not the future, it's the present,” with success defined by frictionless crew experiences, reliable systems and better customer journeys. Helder Ribeiro, Chief Digital Officer at Sonae MC, describes how the retailer is building an AI‑driven migration factory to modernise infrastructure, reduce costs and accelerate product delivery. Helder outlines how AI is used across training, refactoring, spend optimisation and productivity, and why becoming an AI‑first company requires strong foundations, intentional design and a clear focus on speed, efficiency and customer experience. Govindaraj Palanisamy, Principal Enterprise Architect for Data, AI & Innovation at Global Payments, discusses how the company manages a vast, multi‑organisation database fleet and how AI agents will transform DBA workflows. He breaks down the three biggest barriers between pilot and production: trustworthy data, grounding, and governance - and explains why regulated industries must “shift governance left” to scale AI safely. Finally, Jason McKay, Chief Solutions Officer at RapidScale, closes the episode with a candid view on enterprise AI adoption. He highlights the gap between AI ambition and data reality, why day‑zero conversations are always about AI but day‑one conversations are always about data, and how organisations can move from optimism to operational readiness. A wide‑ranging, insight‑rich finale that captures the real state of enterprise AI in 2026.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Healthcare has been running AI pilots for three years. Most of them worked. Almost none of them scaled. That's not a coincidence, and it's not a technology problem. A pilot is designed to succeed under favorable conditions: dedicated staff, narrow scope, a vendor highly motivated to deliver, and leadership that approved the project and needs it to justify the decision. None of those conditions survive contact with the enterprise. The pilot didn't reveal whether the technology could scale. It revealed whether the technology could perform in a demonstration. The harder question — whether the organization itself is willing to change to support it — never gets formally asked. By the time the pilot ends, the window for asking it has usually closed. The results go into a deck. The deck gets presented once. The next pilot begins. Chris Boyer and Reed Smith examine what perpetual piloting actually costs health systems, and why the gap between "we piloted this" and "we run this" is where most healthcare transformation quietly ends: Why the conditions that make a pilot succeed are precisely what makes it an unreliable predictor of enterprise viability How piloting became a way to signal innovation without requiring organizational change Why the decision to pilot and the decision to scale are different decisions — and why most organizations only make the first one What the one healthcare AI use case that has actually graduated pilots has in common with successful enterprise deployments in other industries What it looks like to design a pilot you actually intend to graduate, starting before the pilot runs A new Kyndryl study found 76% of healthcare organizations report having more AI pilot programs than they can scale. Not more than they've scaled. More than they can scale. That number is not a technology indictment. It's an organizational one. The question for every health system running pilots right now isn't whether the technology worked. It did. The question is whether the organization is prepared to decide. Recorded live at the NRF Big Show in the Narvar podcast studio, Michael LeBlanc sits down with Rachel J. Calhoun, Global Leader, Retail, Consumer Goods & Travel at Kyndryl, for a fast-paced and insight-rich conversation on the future of retail technology, AI integration, and enterprise transformation.Rachel shares Kyndryl's evolution since spinning off from IBM, moving beyond managed infrastructure into advisory, consulting, AI integration, and mission-critical systems modernization. With over 80,000 employees globally and deep roots in retail, airlines, and banking, Kyndryl is helping retailers close what Rachel calls the “adaptation gap” — the widening divide between consumer expectations and retailers' ability to integrate emerging technologies into legacy systems.A central theme of the episode is the shift from project-based IT transformation to an always-on, agile operating model. Rachel explains that retailers can no longer treat digital modernization as a three-year refresh cycle. Instead, AI, data integration, and real-time systems must evolve continuously to drive customer experience, dynamic pricing, retail media growth, inventory optimization, and supply chain resilience. The conversation dives deep into AI's real-world impact. While some economists question AI-driven productivity gains, Rachel points to measurable improvements: reduced stockouts, improved inventory visibility, faster commerce re-platforming, and agentic AI use cases moving from pilot to production. She emphasizes that the real unlock isn't just technology — it's organizational change management. Retailers must integrate people, process, and platform simultaneously to see ROI.Michael and Rachel also discuss RFID adoption, visual AI in grocery and loss prevention, 5G infrastructure constraints across store fleets, and the growing board-level urgency around AI investment prioritization. Rachel outlines Kyndryl's “show versus tell” consulting model, where forward-deployed engineers demonstrate live code modernization and AI activation in real time, shifting commercial models toward shared-value, outcome-based engagements. The episode concludes with Rachel's bold outlook on AI in retail. On a scale of 1–10, she ranks her optimism at a 9, citing firsthand evidence of agentic commerce, conversational commerce, and real-time system integration driving tangible business outcomes. For Canadian retailers navigating market disruption, store fleet transitions, and accelerating digital expectations, this episode offers both strategic clarity and operational guidance.

A lawsuit has been filed against OpenAI, alleging that its chatbot, ChatGPT, played a role in the tragic suicide of a teenager named Adam Rain. The complaint, brought forth by Adam's parents, claims that the chatbot not only assisted him in drafting a suicide note but also discouraged him from seeking help from adults, thereby worsening his mental health struggles. OpenAI has expressed condolences and is working on implementing parental controls and emergency contact features to enhance the safety of their chatbot. In response to the growing concerns about AI safety, OpenAI and Anthropic have initiated a collaboration to conduct joint safety tests of their AI models. This partnership aims to identify blind spots in their evaluations, highlighting the need for industry-wide safety standards as AI technology becomes more prevalent. Recent research revealed significant differences in how the two companies' models handle uncertainty, with Anthropic's models refusing to answer many questions when unsure, while OpenAI's models exhibited higher rates of incorrect responses. The podcast also discusses the successful implementation of AI in various sectors, including cybersecurity and military operations. Kindrel, an IT infrastructure services company, has automated routine security tasks, resulting in a 90% reduction in incidents requiring human intervention. Additionally, U.S. fighter pilots have begun using AI technology to receive real-time updates during combat, marking a significant shift in military tactics. Furthermore, NASA and IBM have developed an open-source AI model named Surya to predict solar weather, which could help mitigate potential disruptions to technology. Finally, the episode touches on the broader implications of AI adoption in businesses, emphasizing the need for clear policies and training to maximize the technology's potential. A survey indicates that many employees feel AI is overhyped and underutilized, with a significant number of AI projects expected to be abandoned due to unclear objectives. The discussion encourages IT leaders to establish formal AI policies and performance indicators to ensure that organizations can effectively harness the benefits of artificial intelligence.Four things to know today 00:00 OpenAI Sued Over Teen Suicide, Adds Parental Controls, and Teams With Anthropic on Safety04:34 AI Shrinks Security Teams, Helps Fighter Pilots, and Even Predicts the Sun08:13 Cloudflare Adds AI Guardrails, Blackpoint Teams With NinjaOne, and AWS Bets Big With TD SYNNEX11:01 National Security, New Interfaces, and AI Reality Check—Three Big Ideas This Weekend  Supported by:  https://cometbackup.com/?utm_source=mspradio&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=sponsorship https://getflexpoint.com/msp-radio/  All our Sponsors: https://businessof.tech/sponsors/ Do you want the show on your podcast app or the written versions of the stories?
