Kristi Noem calls out Tim Walz and Jacob Frey over the ambush of a Federal Agent last night in Minneapolis.U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials say the shooting happened just before 7 p.m. after federal law enforcement tried to conduct a traffic stop in Minneapolis. The subject of the traffic stop was an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, DHS said.A DHS spokesperson said the subject of the traffic stop tried to run away from law enforcement before agents caught up with him, and a struggle ensued.During the struggle, two people came out of a nearby apartment and hit the law enforcement agent with a snow shovel and broom handle, according to DHS officials. The initial man involved in the traffic stop then got away from federal law enforcement and allegedly began hitting the agent, a DHS spokesperson said. The agent then fired his weapon and hit the man in the leg. All three people involved ran into a nearby apartment and barricaded themselves inside, DHS officials said.During a later press conference, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara stated that their department received a 911 call at around 6:51 p.m. about the shooting.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Donald Trump threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota as Kristi Noem suggests U.S. citizens should be prepared to show proof of citizenship, escalating fears of authoritarian overreach. Trump also signals he wants any military action against Iran to be “swift and decisive,” while openly musing that the U.S. “shouldn't even have an election” when discussing the midterms. The resignation of Madison Sheahan, an ICE deputy director to run for Congress might look like a routine political move, but it says more about the internal state of immigration enforcement than any press release. ICE is increasingly being pulled between two competing instincts: governing and performing. Tom Homan represents the former, focused on operational reality and risk management. Kristi Noem represents the latter, treating enforcement as a political identity meant to generate headlines and loyalty. Those approaches are not compatible, and when senior officials start eyeing exits into electoral politics, it usually means the institution itself is under strain. On Capitol Hill, leadership is once again trying to stitch together a spending package just robust enough to avoid a shutdown. Progress exists, but only in the narrowest technical sense. Most discretionary funding is unresolved, and Homeland Security remains the pressure point. That is intentional. Immigration funding is leverage, and no one wants to give it up before extracting political value. The result is a familiar pattern: public urgency, private hesitation, and a quiet hope that the consequences land after the next recess.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. Since an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis, President Trump and MAGA have labeled her a “domestic terrorist” and come up with one reason after another to justify her death. This week Alex interviews Michel Moore, the former Chief of Police for the Los Angeles Police Department, to hear how law enforcement is interpreting the event. Then she speaks to The Bulwark's Tim Miller to question the parallel realities Americans seem to be living in, despite ample video footage, and even in cases of life and death. For some reason, the president thinks he is winning the news cycle by occupying a great American city and ordering his agents to violently confront U.S. citizens. But polling and anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise. At the same time, Dems have got to stop tying themselves up in knots over what language to use about ICE. Just keep the messaging fight focused on Trump, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and ICE. Plus, a strike on Iran is looking less likely, Jeff Bezos is a chicken and should sell The Post, the administration is pushing food rationing, our European allies are planning military exercises over the threat to Greenland, and what happened to the Epstein files? On this episode of The Siren Podcast, hosted on The Siren Network, I had the honor of being joined by Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy and Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley to discuss the murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis by ICE, why the Trump regime is really starting a conflict with Venezuela, and how Americans should be demanding more of their elected officials during this moment. Trump and his minions in the White House have made it their mission to place violence at the center of everything they do. Their goal is to normalize it. We see this play out in many forms, but especially in the regime's response to the tragic shooting of Renee Good. When ICE shoots an American citizen three times in the face, Kristi Noem's very first instinct was to demonize her and call her a domestic terrorist. JD Vance's initial response branded Good as a “deranged leftist.” The official federal response from the White House did not include calls for investigations, or pledges to ensure this never happens again- but support for the actions of the ICE agent who pulled the trigger. Hours after the shooting, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted an image reading “I STAND WITH ICE.” She then pinned that message to the top of her Twitter profile, seemingly supporting the murder that the entire country saw happen on video. When the U.S. military captured Nicolas Maduro, Pete Hegseth said Maduro had “F'd around and found out.” Donald Trump routinely threatens our allies with violence, and pledges to take control of Greenland. The official Twitter accounts of the U.S. Government publish daily propaganda videos of supposed migrants in chains and handcuffs and call for “remigration”- the once fringe, far-right term for the mass deportation of non-whites (a.k.a., ethnic cleansing). All of this has a purpose. It's meant to make you feel overwhelmed and hopeless. And honestly? It's perfectly natural to feel that way. But it's also important to shine a light on our wins- Simply put, Trump is losing the support of Congressional Republicans. As Senator Murphy says during today's episode, “The Senate just passed a resolution saying that the president does not have the power to take this action in Venezuela. I think four or five Republicans actually crossed over, voted with Democrats. A war powers resolution that is now passed the United States Senate that is heading to the House of Representatives that says the president cannot use any funds in order to carry out operations in Venezuela without the consent of Congress.” Make sure to watch this information-packed double feature of The Siren Podcast, and stay tuned for some light-hearted sports talk!
Tonight we're talking about what feels like a deadly power trip, and it's getting harder to ignore. From ICE and Kristi Noem terrorizing cities, carrying out aggressive enforcement with no due process and no concern for basic humanity, to Donald Trump pushing the country closer and closer to a full-scale conflict with Iran, the escalation is happening in real time. What is going on here? And why does cruelty always seem to be the point? We'll break down how unchecked authority, dehumanization, and reckless leadership are colliding, and why this moment should alarm everyone, regardless of politics. Today's Headlines: Six federal prosecutors in Minnesota resigned after the DOJ pushed them to investigate the widow of Renee Good — while still refusing to treat the ICE officer who killed Good as a civil rights case. The DOJ is now probing alleged ties between Good's wife and local ICE protest groups, a move prosecutors called a blatant inversion of justice. At the same time, Rep. Jamie Raskin is pressing DHS over reports that ICE is recruiting pardoned January 6 participants, asking how many now have guns, masks, and badges. That scrutiny comes as more than 50 House Democrats roll out articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for obstruction, civil rights violations, and alleged self-dealing. Trump escalated things in Detroit, announcing he'll cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities and states starting February 1 — targeting 11 states and D.C. labeled as sanctuary jurisdictions. Abroad, Iran's regime crackdown has reportedly killed more than 2,000 protesters. Trump says he's canceled talks with Tehran, urged protesters to “take over your institutions,” slapped new tariffs on countries doing business with Iran, and — as the regime jams Starlink — the White House has reportedly held quiet talks with exiled opposition figure Reza Pahlavi. In Epstein news, Bill and Hillary Clinton refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee about Jeffrey Epstein, instead sending an eight-page letter arguing the subpoenas are invalid and noting they already submitted sworn statements the committee accepted from others. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court heard arguments on state bans targeting transgender athletes, with signs the justices are unlikely to strike them down. And civil rights trailblazer Claudette Colvin, whose defiance on a Montgomery bus at 15 helped ignite the civil rights movement, has died at 86. Jen Psaki reports on new polling that shows Americans are very aware of the deadly ICE shooting of a Minnesota mom and are not buying into Donald Trump's tactic of trying to blame the victim of the shooting. At the same time, Trump's DOJ deciding not to investigate has triggered a rash of resignations, and a non-stop flow of videos of ICE agents brutalizing residents of Minneapolis, including Americans, is further souring public opinion on the job Trump has ICE doing.Assistant attorney general for civil rights, Harmeet Dhillon, decided not to investigate the deadly ICE shooting of Minneapolis mom Renee Nicole Good, triggering shocked outrage not only from Americans who watched videos of the shooting, but also from prosecutors within the Justice Department. Stacey Young, former DOJ official, talks with Jen Psaki about why the Justice Department refusing to do its job is extremely uncommon, and also an abdication of the department's role in American governance.Donald Trump's petulance over not being able to manipulate interest rates to his own political advantage risks economic catastrophe for the United States as Trump has deployed his weaponized Justice Department to try to intimidate Fed chair Jerome Powell. Senator Elizabeth Warren joins Jen Psaki to discuss how the situation came to be and what's at stake. And the nation is still outraged over ICE shooting and killing a Minnesota mom, and that outrage is only intensifying as videos of other ICE abuses have been spreading across the internet. Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost talks with Jen Psaki about what Congress can do to take some power away from Kristi Noem's Department of Homeland Security. When Renee Goode was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, two completely different stories emerged from the same event. One side called her a domestic terrorist who weaponized her Honda Pilot, while the other saw a mother trying to escape. As a crisis manager from the Twin Cities, I break down the competing narratives from President Trump, JD Vance, Kristi Noem, Governor Tim Walz, and Mayor Jacob Frey to reveal the five hidden cues in any crisis communication: who gets humanized first, how they treat uncertainty, what the process looks like, what they ask you to do with your anger, and what happens to people who disagree. This isn't just political analysis, it's a framework you can apply to workplace drama, family conflict, or any situation where someone's trying to control the narrative. You'll learn why Walz's calm messaging worked after he learned from past mistakes, how Frey's profanity-laced response was strategically brilliant, and why the administration's gaslighting playbook falls apart under scrutiny. Once you learn to spot these patterns, you can't unsee them—in politics or in your personal life.Trigger Warning: This episode discusses a fatal police shooting and contains strong language.Want More Behind the Breakdown? With a new lieutenant governor candidate in the Democratic primary in Macon-Bibb official Seth Clark, Ron caught up with Georgia NOW reporter Jenna Eason to get the scoop. Jenna covered the region before at the Macon Telegraph and had interviewed Clark early in her career and offered her insights. Later, Ron connected with 25-year-old Adrian Consonery Jr., a first-time candidate running for Georgia Secretary of State, to talk voting access, election integrity, and why younger voters are stepping into the political arena earlier than ever.Second half of the show, Ron turns his focus back to the scene in Minneapolis that continues to divide the nation - though polling suggests the majority of us do see things similarly. While reading the AJC's Bill Torpy op/ed, Ron stopped midway to point out something crucial: watch Jonathan Ross' own video HERE. Notice as Ross' fingers appear as Renee Good's spouse, Becca encourages him to "go get yourself some lunch?" He's moving the phone he's using to record the video from his right hand to his left. He was freeing up his right hand to access his weapon then, and not while in harm's way in or near the front of the vehicle. Why? Even Atlanta-based right wing radio host Shelley Wynter found a vastly more reasoned voice than Kristi Noem or Donald Trump; the kind of voice needed in this fracas. Lastly, what if Democrats put together a 'shadow cabinet?' You know, like an "alternate universe" version of what the executive branch would look like were Democrats in control? Emory professor Rick Doner opines that's what's needed right now. Ron shares & chimes in, too. Tune in to catch the Ron Show weekdays from 4-6pm Eastern time on Georgia NOW! A Trump-backed prosecutor quietly opened an investigation into Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell in an attempt to pressure him into quitting. This move has the potential to destroy the economy as we know it, as economists and other global experts have insisted that any attack on the Fed's independence would completely destroy faith in the US economy both home and abroad, sending our currency into a tailspin and putting a halt on investments into the US. In an interview with The New York Times published this week, Donald Trump came out AGAINST the Civil Rights Act because, as he falsely claimed, it led to white people being treated "very badly." That never happened anywhere in the United States, and there was never any coordinated, state-sponsored "bad treatment" of white people. But Trump knows that he's in trouble with his base, so he's leaning back into the racism that made him their favorite candidate to begin with. The White House is furious over Kristi Noem's actions and they are now panicking because they fear she's ruined everything they've been working towards (which is to get rid of as many non-white people as they can.) Their racist agenda has been derailed over the killing of Renee Good and Noem's response to the shooting. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest ICE over the weekend, and that's not what the administration wanted to happen as they were already struggling to get the public on their side on the issue of immigration. Republican Senator Ted Cruz held a Senate hearing last week on a proposal he has to "hold rogue judges accountable." But Cruz, like many Republicans, didn't think about the future when he came up with his proposal, and analysts pointed out quickly that Democrats could use the same procedure to impeach Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon. No judge has made it more obvious that she doesn't care about the rule of law more than Cannon herself, and Cruz's proposal could be exactly what Democrats need to remove her for good. The German government came out and condemned completely false statements made recently by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The country was forced to remind people of the truth after Kennedy falsely claimed that German doctors were prosecuted for not administering Covid vaccines. The truth is that doctors were free to either give the vaccine or choose not to do so, and not a single person was punished for their decision. But Kennedy lies with impunity because that's all he can do to back up his quack claims. SEASON 4 EPISODE 49: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: BREAK the cover-up of the ICE murder of Renee Good: 1) INVESTIGATE regardless -on the state and county levels. 2) INDICT and ARREST the ICE shooter, Jonathan Ross (and the Trump militia members who were with him as accessories). 3) IMPEACH Homeland Security Chief Kristi Noem, Ice Director Todd Lyons (and Border Czar Tom Homan. Representative Angie Craig says now the Noem impeachment will proceed). 4) Iif Noem or any other ICE or DHS official continues to stonewall local investigators seeking justice for the murdered women, indict and arrest them for OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. 5) When the Senate takes up the resolution to fund the government past January 30, all Democrats must refuse to vote yes unless ICE is neutered (and Trump's magic war wand as well). This is a pivotal moment in American history. ICE's reaction to its crimes has been to double down. It is now hiding behind this empty, corrupt demand that we all need to improve the “tone” and when they say “we” they mean “you” and when they say “tone” they mean “any criticism at all.” Tom Homan went on Fox and actually added to this bankrupt bromide, NEW threats. "There will be more bloodshed unless we decrease the hateful rhetoric.” Translation: if you keep criticizing us, we will keep shooting you. The acting ICE chief, Lyons, may be even worse. He is daring Minnesota to enforce its laws. “My message to the sheriff is: try and arrest my folks, let’s see what happens.” What should happen is the sheriff serving warrants to Ross, Noem, Lyons and the rest of their ICE street gang - with the Minnesota National Guard standing behind the sheriff. ALSO: Why are these fascists so obsessed with killing Americans? It may be the guns. Not the access to them: the physical impact on a shooter's brain by firing a weapon, as established by new tests. Put Him on Trial. Put ICE on Trial. Put Noem on Trial. Uprising in Iran. Trump's Latest Outrageous Weekend Post. Jerome Powell Punches Back. Pour One Out for Kittle. Independent Americans host Paul Rieckhoff returns for a raw, solo “Manosphere Monday” to break down the most urgent story in America: the killing of Minneapolis activist and mother Renee Good by ICE officer Jonathan Ross, who was caught on video calling her a “fucking bitch” as he shot her. Paul calls it murder. And explains why Ross, Kristi Noem, and ICE itself must be put on trial, elevating the powerful, hopeful statement from Good's wife, Becca, as a model of courage and what “right” looks like in the face of rising tension in Minneapolis and nationwide. Zooming out, Paul connects this murder to Trump's larger, calculated plan: a wartime-style ICE expansion targeting veterans with bonuses and lowered standards, an unchecked “forever war 2.0” abroad, and the dismantling of independent media from PBS NewsHour Weekend to targeting the Pentagon Press Corps. He makes the case that ICE has become an unaccountable extension of Trump's military power at home and issues a direct call to veterans, cops, independents, and all conscientious Americans to be the circuit breakers who refuse unlawful orders, expose abuses, and stand up before more Americans are killed and more streets become battlefields. This is a time for truth. And this episode is bringing it. We’re now on YouTube every week! Click here to subscribe. On our radar this week… There is a lot on our radar along with Santa's sleigh… It was inevitable from the day Donald Trump sent his masked, unqualified, undertrained stormtroopers into American cities. An American citizen was summarily executed; Trump, Vance, and Kristi Noem immediately called the shooting justified self-defense and branded the dead American mother a domestic terrorist. But, we have clear unrefutable evidence we have all seen with our own eyes … which proves everything they have said in the aftermath are lies. It. Was. Murder. And now – Kash Patel has decided he, and he alone, will investigate. Trump is in full land acquisition mode, launching an invasion of Venezuela and making it clear he's looking hard at Cuba, Columbia and Greenland … although his minions say he wants to buy Greenland. And he admits we could be in Venezuela for years. He apparently learned nothing from the George W. Bush's Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan…or the Vietnam War he avoided with those dreaded bone spurs. Trump adds the title of pirate to his resume with the seizure of a 50-million barrels of oil … saying he, and he alone, will illegally and unconstitutionally control the billions raised by selling his booty. Trump says it out loud: if Democrats flip the U.S. House, he expects to be impeached for a third time. Could this be an effort to motivate the MAGA vote? In Michigan, Attorney General Dana Nessel has ruled House Speaker Matt Hall's unilateral cancellation of more than a half-billion dollars from the state budget is unconstitutional … probably setting up a major court battle. State Democrats have rolled out the first blasts aimed at independent gubernatorial candidate Mike Duggan with polls showing Duggan's Independent candidacy could help elect a Republican as Governor. West Michigan has been trending more Democratic over the last decade. The transition culminated with the 2022 election of Hillary Scholten to a congressional seat once held by Gerald Ford in a district that had only just two years of Democratic representation in Michigan's history. In 2026, Democrats see the opportunity to flip another longtime Republican district by defeating 8-term Republican congressman Bill Huizenga. They're counting on state Senator Sean McCann of Kalamazoo to do that. McCann's political career began 26 years ago as a member of the Kalamazoo City Committee, followed by election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2011, and moving to the state Senate 8 years later. He's now completing his 2nd term in the Senate. McCann is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in political science. This morning we're diving back into the escalating nightmare that is ICE's nationwide enforcement blitz from Minneapolis to cities across the country. Tensions are at a boiling point after the horrific murder of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent during an immigration sweep. Over the weekend, ICE Barbie herself (a.k.a. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem) sat down with Jake Tapper on CNN to put her best political spin on the situation. But parroting the party line couldn't hold up in the face of actual facts. Jake also talks with Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin and Democratic Sen. Mark Warner about the Minneapolis shooting, as well as the growing protests inside Iran. Illinois Gov. In this special episode of Straight White American Jesus, Brad Onishi is joined by the Reverend Angela Denker to discuss the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE in Minneapolis on January 7th. As video footage circulates and national leaders offer sharply conflicting accounts—from Minnesota officials describing an unjustified killing to figures like JD Vance and Kristi Noem framing it as lawful self-defense—the episode centers on the human cost of gaslighting and state-sanctioned violence. Denker, a Minneapolis resident who lives near the site of the shooting, offers an on-the-ground account of the aftermath: canceled schools, traumatized children, vigils and protests, and a city once again forced to grieve amid gaslighting and cruelty from those in power. Drawing on her experience as a Lutheran pastor, journalist, and leading critic of Christian nationalism, Denker reflects on courage, solidarity, and the widening scope of state-sanctioned violence. Together, she and Onishi explore why this killing—of a white American woman—has jolted public consciousness, even as similar violence has long been inflicted on Black, Indigenous, and immigrant communities. The conversation situates Minneapolis's response within its history of resistance, faith-based organizing, and collective care, while naming the lie that white supremacy protects anyone. This episode is a raw, urgent meditation on grief, truth-telling, and the moral stakes of this political moment—and a call to remember Renee Nicole Goode not only in death, but in the fullness of her life and humanity.
