Fetal personhood, in short, labels a pregnancy as a person. It is the idea that anything a person is legally entitled to, a fetus is, as well. Karen Thompson, Legal Director at Pregnancy Justice and Garin Marschall, co-founder of Patient Forward, sit down to talk with us about viability, state involvement in pregnancies, and criminalization. Fetal personhood tracks alongside viability, which is the point in a pregnancy's gestation in which the government recognizes personhood. Since Roe, and long before, viability limits became enshrined in law. Dobbs has now dropped all the guardrails. 41 states currently ban abortion at some point in pregnancy - including six states that have enshrined viability limits in their state constitutional amendments. The granting of state power over pregnant people at a certain point has profound implications for criminalization—including for behaviors during pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and threats to bodily autonomy and diminished rights of pregnant people. For more information, check out Well...Adjusting: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/well-adjusting/id1649386566Support the showFollow Us on Social: Twitter: @rePROsFightBack Instagram: @reprosfbFacebook: rePROs Fight Back Bluesky: @reprosfightback.bsky.social Buy rePROs Merch: Bonfire store Email us: jennie@reprosfightback.comRate and Review on Apple PodcastThanks for listening & keep fighting back!

Since the Supreme Court's landmark June 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade and federal abortion protections, a wave of state legislatures have rushed to impose bans and restrictions. According to the Guttmacher Institute, 41 states now have abortion bans in effect, including 12 with total bans. “We hear about the endless, supposedly unintentional consequences of abortion bans like rising maternal mortality, child rape victims forced to travel across state lines, increased risk of criminalization, pregnant victims coerced by their abusers, all of that,” says journalist Kylie Cheung, author of “Coercion: Surviving and Resisting Abortion Bans.” “But I very much argue that these aren't unintended consequences.” This week on The Intercept Briefing, Cheung joins host Jessica Washington to trace the direct line from the Dobbs decision to state-sanctioned gender-based violence and control. “This is what abortion bans function to do, which is to police and control pregnant people, to feed cycles of abuse, to be this tool in the toolbox of abusers. To enact racial violence and economic subjugation and essentially lower women and pregnant people and people who can become pregnant to this lowered class in our society,” says Cheung. “And that is not unintentional at all.Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join. “I told you so starts here” Over the past 200 days (the first 200 of the second Trump term) many details have come to light that confirmed things that for years had been dismissed as “conspiracy theories.” Just this week, details that show that the FBI, under Trump's own AG, Jeff Sessions, had whistleblower testimony that they failed to follow up on regarding classified document leaks from then-Congressman Adam Schiff that were leaked to trigger embarrassing investigations into the President in time to impact the 2018 mid-term elections. Also this week, the Capitol Police Chief finally spoke out and confirmed that the President had asked for the National Guard be deployed to the Capitol building on January third. Three days before the deadly riots. Stories like this come from courageous independent investigative reporters like John Soloman at ‘justthenews.com' our guest, Walter Curt of ‘WCdispatch.com' who shares with us two stories. The first is of two teenage girls who allege that they were taken to get abortions by Fairfax County school officials without alerting their parents. Just now, we are learning that Governor Youngkin has announced that he is “directing the Virginia State police bureau of criminal investigation to open a full criminal investigation.” The second regards a group of former US intelligence officers that call themselves “the Steady State” who have endorsed their former co-worker in the intelligence field, Abigail Spanberger, for Virginia Governor. AMDG. "I went to medical school because I knew I couldn't get into law school."   Catholic board-certified OB-GYN and host of the podcast Doctor Doctor Chris Stroud, M.D., wants more Catholics in medical school. "Catholic students are running as fast as they can away from pediatrics," Chris explains. Controversial life and gender issues have led many Catholic students to seek other professions. "People think, 'I'm going to be confronted with contraception on the very first day-- no thanks.'" Potential medical students are afraid that they will be forced to choose between job security and their values, but Chris is here to paint an entirely different picture of a Catholic in the medical field.   Chris began his career as a music major. After transitioning to medical school -- for an unexpected reason-- Chris also experienced a major transition in his spiritual life. A few years later, Chris's family made the jump from public school to homeschooling and never looked back. "It felt like overnight we were one of those crazy homeschooling families," Chris laughs. Today, Chris runs his own practice in Ft. Wayne, IN, focusing on women's health. Chris's clinic addresses every issue women experience “from homeschooling to personal training,” in his words.  Links mentioned & relevant:  Dr. Stroud and his medical practice Fertility & Midwifery Care Center All Things Women's Health podcast Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy with Nicole Bobay Brain Death, Abortion, and the Adriana Smith Case Doctor, Doctor podcast MyCatholicDoctor.com Catholic Medical Association  Related Kolbecast episodes:  117 Figureoutable with Dr. Andrew Mullally 189 Fit Mind, Fit Body  Have questions or suggestions for future episodes or a story of your own experience that you'd like to share? Abortion clinics, their staff, and the patients seeking care often face instances of blockading, harassment, threats, and violence. This blockage of access to basic healthcare services resulted in the 1994 bipartisan passage of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. Erin Matson, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Reproaction, sits down to talk with us about the FACE Act and how the current Trump administration is attempting to disassemble its protection. Upon his return to office, Trump pardoned 23 individuals convicted of FACE Act violations, while at the same time, the Department of Justice announced it would only in “extreme” circumstances enforce the FACE Act. Shortly thereafter, the Heritage Foundation released a white paper calling for the FACE Act's repeal. For more information, check out CRAMPED: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cramped/id1778101696Support the showFollow Us on Social: Twitter: @rePROsFightBack Instagram: @reprosfbFacebook: rePROs Fight Back Bluesky: @reprosfightback.bsky.social Email us: jennie@reprosfightback.comRate and Review on Apple PodcastThanks for listening & keep fighting back!

Brad records solo during a busy fair season. But behind the scenes at the research center, a troubling issue emerged this summer: a cluster of abortions isolated to a 50–60 cow organic herd. After ruling out other groups, Brad suspected moldy feed. Testing revealed high mold counts—especially Fusarium, which produces mycotoxins linked to infertility and abortions. The herd had been eating first-crop hay baled a bit too wet, later found to be heating and moldy.Aborted fetuses sent to diagnostic labs showed mixed results: one indicated Neospora caninum (a protozoan parasite spread by dogs or coyotes), another pointed to bacterial placentitis likely linked to moldy feed. Despite the confusion, abortions dropped sharply after the moldy hay was removed from the diet, strengthening Brad's belief that feed quality was the main culprit. To prevent future issues, the team pulled suspect hay from use, began feeding a mycotoxin binder, and emphasized the importance—and challenge—of making mold-free feed in a wet year. After almost a month without new cases in the affected herd, Brad is cautiously optimistic. His takeaway: good feed management is critical, even for research herds, and sometimes the simplest solution—removing bad feed—makes the biggest difference.Questions, comments, scathing rebuttals? -> themoosroom@umn.edu or call 612-624-3610 and leave us a message!Linkedin -> The Moos RoomTwitter -> @UMNmoosroom and @UMNFarmSafetyFacebook -> @UMNDairyYouTube -> UMN Beef and Dairy and UMN Farm Safety and HealthInstagram -> @UMNWCROCDairyExtension WebsiteAgriAmerica Podcast Directory
