Just when you think that we wouldn't dare do it, we invite you to KEEP IT COMIN' LOVE - Sherman and Ski are vouching for disco (and Latin FUNK) superstars and underrated heroes, KC and THE SUNSHINE BAND. Literally, there are nothing but hits from Miami native Harry Wayne Casey. In fact, a person can drive from Washington DC to Carlisle PA, and you are NOT out of hits, not by a longshot. Sherman and Ski DO get to a couple of extremely deep cuts from the catalog, specifically from their earlier funk records which has some serious bass and horn action. Ski reminds us that there's not too much of the string section of traditional disco. However, Sherman informs us that there is plenty of Booty and Boogie references that remain. Sherman can't get enough of their fourth album, the oddly titled KC & The Sunshine Band Part III, which is jam-packed with earworms and rump-shakers. Ski pulls from the stellar 1974 debut album Do It Good, and boy is Ski ready to party and Sound Your Funky Horn. Sherman is floored that Please Don't Go was originally penned by KC as he only knows the KWS 90's club cover, but of course Ski knew it. We both DO agree that the premium KC material leans towards the earliest work, and one should probably avoid the 2000's album Yummy, with a bizarre Peter Gabriel cover…yeah, let's stick with the Latin funk and disco stuff. We also reconnect briefly on the Rock & Roll HOF class of 2022, and see how we did…have a listen!

Latino America is a show about the sounds of that part of America which has been the musical inspiration for Mestizo Sounds. The music, rhythms and poetic lyrics of the Latin American people are extraordinary. You will hear music from the old to the very new. Music by Latin American legends from the sixties to the eighties with Chavela Vargas, Edu Lobo, Victor Jara, Hector Lavoe, Toto La Momposina and Ruben Blades. The nineties are represented with the music of the so much missed music sensation Chico Science who died at the peak of his career in a traffic accident in 1997. Here with his band Nação Zumbi interpreting a great song from Brazilian legend Gilberto Gil, “Maracatu Atomico”. Other nineties artists are the pioneer Argentian Mestizo band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, the eclectic Cafe Tacuba or the unconventionals Colombians of Aterciopelados. Finally, the new Millenium sounds with the Venezuelan band Los Amigos Invisibles, the Brazilian Carlinhos Brown and part of the great trio Tribalistas, or the tremenda rumba by the Cuban band leader and veteran musician Orlando Valle with his band Maraca. The lyrical aspect of the Latin American new wave is shown in this Latin American selection with the inspiring song “Mil Cosas” by Uruguayan songwriter Martin Buscaglia. The newest sounds of Latin America are included here with the input of three outstanding bands. The Argentinian band Sindicato Argentino del Hip Hop, the Puerto Rican Hip hop and alternative Reggaeton band Calle 13 with the emotional song Latino America inspired the whole show. An authentic Pan Latin-American song that includes the collaboration of Peruvian diva singer Susana Baca and the Colombian superstar Toto la Momposina. Last but not least of the 3 new bands is the Colombian electronic music duo Bomba Estereo. Here with a recently released new song “Me Duele” in collaboration with Manu Chao, the most Latin American of all the current European music makers. Manu is French but his heart belongs to Latin America where he has always found inspiration and guide light in his music career. The music in the show covers many styles and genres. You will hear Colombian Cumbia, Nuyorican salsa, Psychedelic Peruvian Chicha, Cuban Rhumba, Latin Hip Hop, and New Chilean Song by the political and conscious music activist Victor Jara who was tragically executed in one of the most horrific crimes of the Pinochet 1973's coup d'etat. Also, more modern styles of electronic Cumbia, Latin Funk, Hip Hop and a modern take on the Latin American Canción (songwriter Song) The extension of Latin America culture is bigger than its geography. It doesn't only go from Tierra del Fuego to the border of Rio Grande but is also extending to the US and around the world with their Latino communities. The last track “Mi Gente” is a sincere homage to the Latin American people from the core of the Big Apple, New York, by the greatest Salsa and Puerto Rican singer Hector Lavoe. Music 1- Me duele - BOMBA ESTEREO & MANU CHAO 2- Latino America - CALLE 13 (performing with TOTO LA MOMPOSINA and SUSAN BACA) 3- Pacantó - TOTO LA MOMPOSINA 4- Donde yo estaré - SINDICATO ARGENTINO DEL HIP HOP 5- Pura ilusión - MARACA 6- Carlitos Marrón - CARLINHO BROWN 7- Lamento de Yaorruna - LOS WEMBLER'S DE IQUITOS 8- El estuche - ATERCIOPELADOS 9- Prohibido olvidar - RUBEN BLADES 10- Cruz del olvido - CHAVELA VARGAS 11- Upa Neghinho - EDU LOBO 12- La vida - FABULOSOS CADILLACS 13- Deja la vida volar - VICTOR JARA 14- Hueco - LA MOJARRA ELECTRICA 15- El loco - LOS DE ABAJO 16- Maracatu Atômico - CHICO SCIENCE & NAÇAO ZUMBI 17- Mil cosas MARTIN BUSCAGLIA 18- La ingrata - CAFE TACUBA 19- Diablo - LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES 20- Mi Gente - FANIA ALL STARS & HECTOR LAVOE

On the previous episode of Consequence Podcast Network and Sony's The Opus Season 15, we explored the chemistry between the voices of Cypress Hill's B-Real and Sen Dog. In Episode 3, we look at the unique alchemy of their beats. The place where rock and metal meet has always been a part of Cypress Hill's sonic and cultural identity. Sen Dog's first concert was thrash-metal band Slayer; that band's drummer, Dave Lombardo (who, like Sen, is Cuban-American), was his high-school friend. At the end of "How I Could Just Kill a Man," someone quotes Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized." Cypress Hill's sound had its origins as much in hard rock as it did with Latin funk. The group put their guitar-based influences under every one of their raps. In this episode, host Jill Hopkins and her guests talk about that intersection between rock and hip-hop, and examine how other artists found themselves at the center of the Venn diagram Cypress Hill first drew. Original music by Tony Piazza. Subscribe now so you can keep up on all the new Opus episodes. Also, keep an eye out for a special giveaway in the coming weeks to continue the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Cypress Hill. San Francisco, back again my friend to the days of wine and roses -Cal Tjader, Bayete, Armando Peraza, Eddie Marshall Ron Stallings, and the rest of the Mill Valley Gang which included David "What are their names" Crosby. San Francisco was a beautiful artistic enclave before anybody knew it was great. It was an incubator of Latin Funk mixed with Psychedelic Rock and 1st generation blues players like a John Lee Hooker. Marin City was filled with the sounds of Wes Montgomery and Bola Sete. My guest hails from The Bay and is a blur of movement and magic. Lightning fast when he is in that trance. The one he found himself in again and again in his garage Woodshedding for hours. Being ready for the live moment in front of audiences at Andres or The Poppycock or Woodstock. Relentless pursuit for those who chant with Carmelo Garcia and Victor Pantoja and Hadley Caliman. My guest was the drummer for Carlos Santana during the most explosive growth of electronic music in our countries history. Sound expansion, playing seemingly simple patterns in complex polyrhythmic grooves exploring the thesaurus of scales the way Coltrane used to duke it out with Elvin Jones. Except it was my guest along with Doug Rauch and Michael Carabello with Tom Costner laying on the B-3. He has played on the world stage with the heaviest cats like Neil Schon, Sammy Hagar and Steve Winwood challenging gravity with flurries of patterns while still holding it down. He is the same master drumming discussion as Jack DeJohnette, Billy Cobham, Billy Kreutzmann, Lenny White Greg Errico and Gaylord Birch. When music came out of the community and was supported by the community. Now that community looks somewhat different as we have fully become automatic men in the age of digitization. On this journey I have used technology to find my heroes in music. Once accessed these cats provide lessons in leadership, love, life and lineage. My guest does it by helping people dance, maybe even the teacher in the classroom because you want to enjoy the musical ride. Looking to set the rhythm straight in 2015 Michael Shrieve welcome to the JFS. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jake-feinberg/support

Bienvenidos al Show Nº 92. This latest episode of Recycled Funk is a tribute to Latin Funk, to commemorate Cinco De Mayo. Growing up in NYC, the son of a musician/DJ who also happens to have Puerto Rican roots in the family tree, my exposure to Latin funk came early in life, and often. NYC definitely has “a sound” when …
