Despite the many forms of successes in advancing women's rights and gender equality that has been achieved by the women's rights movement, bodily autonomy still remains elusive for millions of women and girls around the world. According to the UNFPA's 'My Body is My Own' report, nearly half of all women in 57 countries are denied bodily autonomy. In our society, bodily autonomy is regarded as a 'western concept' rather than a fundamental right. Not to mention, when the subject of bodily autonomy is brought up, it is frequently linked to reproductive and sexual rights. However, little has been realized that the denial of women and girls' bodily autonomy has increasingly infringed on their daily lives where they are shamed for merely being confident in their own skin or for carrying out mundane activities such as exercising. In the fourth episode of GOSSIP, we talked about the patriarchal society's long-held perspective of women and girls' bodies, the shame surrounding femininity, and the measures forward to empower women and girls' bodily autonomy. Join us in recognizing the importance of bodily autonomy as a human right that will benefit not just women and girls but all people. Yemen is a nation on the brink of collapse. Devastated by more than 5 years of civil war, the humanitarian situation in Yemen is dire. Economic volatility and conflict have stretched Yemenis' ability to cope to the breaking point, leaving millions deeply vulnerable and famine a real threat. In the first half of 2021, about 16 million people face acute levels of food insecurity, with a return of famine-like conditions for the first time in two years. Over 24 million people rely on humanitarian assistance to get by. According to the 2021 Global Report on Food Crises—an analysis of global food insecurity by 16 partners including the United Nations World Food Programme—conflict remains the leading driver of hunger globally, with about 99 million severely hungry people living across 23 conflict-affected countries. If adequately funded this year, the United Nations World Food Programme aims to provide emergency food assistance to about 13 million people as well as malnutrition treatment and prevention to 3.3 million children and mothers. MS Dhoni ended one of the most illustrious and successful cricket careers of our generation. “Pal do pal meri hasti hai, pal do pal meri jawani hai,” recites Amitabh Bachchan in the song Dhoni has chosen to bid us farewell with, nearly 400 days since we saw him walk back to the pavilion, wearing the Indian jersey, at the ICC World Cup semi-final. But the 16 years he served Indian cricket was anything but ‘pal do pal'… specially in the history books as he finishes off as India's most successful captain. His accolades are there for all to see, how much do we know about the man himself? He's had the spotlight on him through his career, yet he's always managed to remain in the shadows and not many people have been successful in breaking through that barrier of Mahi's privacy. From avoiding even carrying a phone to being unreachable during important announcements (including the birth of his daughter Ziva) — there are many stories of how captain cool has always been hard to track down and how he kept people on their toes about his next move. Tim Fuell and Dave Anderson look ahead to the weekend as the FA Vase and FA Trophy hit the last 16 of their respective competitons. With Dave preparing his Chertsey Town side for their trip to Irlam if the weather can be beaten, discussion turns to the two sides Godmanchester Rovers and Coventry United expelled from the competition having previously reached this round. Dave Diaper long-serving manager at 2014 Vase winners Sholing FC is the first guest as they prepare for a change in visitors with Sporting Khalsa now awaited. Just how has he kept 6 of those Vase winners five years later and what is the magical ingredient at Sholing that means over half the squad have made over 100 appearances for the club. Plus 15 points clear at the top of the Wessex Premier League he also discusses the issues automatic promotion to Step 4 could create for his small, seemingly very well-run club. Even in transfer-deadline week the big football talking point was Monday night's FA Cup Fourth Round tie between Barnet and Brentford that thrilled the TV audience. Ahead of the replay however, a trip to Carshalton Athletic awaits in the last 16 of the FA Trophy with the club very keen to progress and make the final at Wembley. In one of his busiest weeks of the season, Media Officer at the Bees Aarron Pullen tells the show what it's meant to him but why it has all been so worthwhile. Plus he reveals how he learnt it all in the lower reaches of non league. Finally, Matt Badcock offers his thoughts on the FA Vase and FA Trophy as well as the managerial changes at Hartlepool United and Kidderminster Harriers.
