Heute spreche ich mit Steffen Allesch von alphin - und das ist etwas ganz besonderes für mich. Denn Steffen hat mit alphin eine Idee auf eine Größe von über 70 Mitarbeitern gebracht, die ich selber auch schon einmal mit einem Protoypen getestet habe. Steffen hat in Deutschland geschafft, was mir in den USA nicht gelungen ist. Kein Wunder also, dass ich mich auf dieses Gespräch ungemein freue. (Hinweis: dieses Gespräch habe ich mit Steffen schon vor ein paar Wochen geführt) Wir sprechen im Detail über seine Idee, seinen ehrgeizigen Weg in dem er sich gegen eine Karriere bei einer Investmentbank und für die eigene Gründung entschieden hat. Wir sprechen auch sehr lange über Leadership in Zeiten von Corona, wenn Dinge plötzlich nicht mehr so schnell wachsen und die Mitarbeiter plötzlich noch stärker auf die Führungspersönlichkeiten gucken. Übrigens: wir haben das Gespräch vor einigen Wochen geführt, da hieß alphin noch Freachly. Steffen hat lange gehadert und etwas gezögert mit der eigenen Gründung, unter anderem weil er es als sehr riskant eingeschätzt hatte. Ein guter Freund hat ihm dann eine neue Perspektive gegeben: Steffen, du bist so privilegiert, wenn nicht du wer dann. Ich glaube das es viele Leute, vielleicht auch Dich, davon abhält, was eigenes zu machen und möglicherweise wird das Risiko überschätzt. Nichtsdestotrotz: In vielen Gesprächen mit Gründern merke ich auch immer, dass es ein Risiko gibt, was häufig unterschätzt wird - das persönliche, geistige Risko auszubrennen. Gründen ist ein Knochenjob, der manchmal am Anfang manchmal für immer schlecht bezahlt ist und nicht jeder mit diesen großen Schwankungen und der enormen Unsicherheit zurechtkommt. Vielleicht sollte man also dieses Risiko etwas höher bewerten als das wirtschaftliche.Verkauf die Zukunft: Es ist ein häufiger wiederkehrende Storyline in diesem Podcast - wie baut man einen zweiseitigen Markt auf und wie löst man das Henne-Ei Problem. Bei Steffen ist das: Ohne Händler keine Kunden und ohne Kunden keine Händler. Steffen hat es aufgelöst, indem er einfach die Zukunft verkauft hat. "1000 Deals im Juni" - am Ende waren es weniger, aber das war dann ganz egalFührung in der Krise: Steffen denkt in drei Kategorien, wenn er über die Motivation seiner MItarbeiter nachdenkt - People, Progress and Pay. Also eine gute Kultur, Fortschritt bzw. Wachstum und eine gute Bezahlung. Letzteres ist besonders schwer in einem Start-Up, deshalb ist die Kultur und die großen Wachstumsaussichten so besonders wichtig. Vielleicht ist der Tischkicker und die Club Mate also doch eine strategische Investition für Start-Ups

The CAER investigates energy technologies to improve the environment. Researchers contribute to technically-sound policies related to fossil and renewable energy. The CAER is a UK unit that is staffed by professional scientists and engineers, has extensive interactions with faculty members and students, and provides analytical services for outside organizations. CAER adds to the teaching and instruction arm of UK by educating students from pre-college to postgraduate levels and being involved in labor force development for the Commonwealth. Our own Detective Dan was the first to arrive on scene and tend to him, while the armed suspect fled, leading multiple law enforcement agencies in a treacherous, high-speed chase up a remote logging road. Where the road dead-ends, a tense standoff commences and our own Detective Dave steps in as the crisis negotiator. In this two-part episode, Detective Dan reflects on the worst day of his law enforcement career alongside Chris’ widow, Kristie, and Chris' former lieutenant, and partner, who remember the kind of man and police officer he was. Special Guests: Ret. Officer Risko Risko is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and was born and raised in Chicago, Il. Prior to becoming a police officer, he served 3 years as a paratrooper in the US Army. After leaving the Army, Risko became a police officer and his career in law enforcement spanned nearly 30 years. During that time he worked on patrol, as a FTO, narcotics detective, and motorcycle officer. He was also a member of the SWAT team. He served an additional 8 years as a member of the National Guard while working as a full time police officer. In this quick call, we check in with Karin Risko, the tour operator behind City Tour Detroit to learn how she is coping with the COVID-19 lockdown and how she plans to come back stronger. "You know, I feel like I'm starting over again for the third time. In 2012, I was getting ready, gung ho, and then I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The following year in 2013, again I'm revving up, and then my boyfriend passed away suddenly. And I really had no clue after that if I was going to go forth, because suddenly I had no passion for the business. This time it's a little bit different. I still do have passion, so I'm just kind of sitting back, I guess, sit back, breathe. Be grateful for what you do have. There's a lot of people, you know, we don't have to be on the front lines out there exposing ourself to this disease."

RadioRotary co-host Jonah Triebwasser and producer Kathy Kruger interview the man who conceived and launched RadioRotary: Poughkeepsie-Arlington Rotarian Roger Risko. Mr. Risko, who is about to retire after many years of teaching at Dutchess County’s BOCES (Bureau of Co-operative Services), not only started RadioRotary but also has been instrumental in forming and helping grow several Rotaract and Interact clubs, organizations for youth—respectively college-age and high-school age—in the Hudson Valley. Inspired by a question from the mother of an Interact student, Mr. Risko created the first Rotary-oriented service organization for senior citizens, Elderact. Interact clubs for high school students, sponsored by local Rotary clubs, provide young people with an opportunity to participate in meaningful service to the community, the nation, and the world and thus learn about the many rewards of service. Rotaract clubs for college-age students, including community-based clubs, and Elderact clubs for senior citizens, especially those living in assisted living communities, also further this initiative of expanding Rotary service opportunities. In this interview, Rotarian Roger Risko, (Poughkeepsie-Arlington) creator of RadioRotary in 2008, describes how traditional Rotary clubs sponsor these other forms of Rotary service and the beneficial effects of the clubs for young and old. Over the years, Mr. Risko has been District Chair and Advisor to this initiative, expanding such clubs in the Hudson Valley. Roger Risko, Special Education Job Coordinator at BOCES and Rotary District 7210’s Interact/Rotaract Advisor and Elderact Chair, and Kathy White, business teacher at the BOCES Alternate High School, discuss many projects developed and implemented by students. These include Interact’s service activities, such as an anti-bullying project and serving food in soup kitchens. Both guests describes how much these young humanitarians personally benefit from the experiences, and they provide heartwarming examples. Mr. Risko discusses his work as District Interact Chair and Advisor for many years, and how he facilitates support for these students through his Arlington Rotary Club. It's all fun and games as we learn the Metal Rockers incarnate morphed into this fusion rock band featuring a horn player (Sam on the Sax), a DJ mixing up the vinyl (Emortal), and a traditional rock ensemble (Kevin and Shawne on Guitars, Wesley on Bass, and Billy G on Drums)...then the fast talking vocalist Risko and BLAMO!
