What's myth and what's fact in the story of Charles Manson? What were the true motives behind the murders and who was really involved? There are many books covering this topic, yet very few have broken through the 'official' tale told by the trial's prosecutors and the news media at the time. This book includes hundreds of hours of research into court and police documents, witness statements, media reports and interviews with those involved. How do Terry Melcher, Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, Jane Fonda, the Mamas and the Papas, Michael Caine, Dean Martin, Angela Lansbury, Peter Sellers, Warren Beatty, Yul Brynner, Peter Falk, Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Neil Young, Frank Zappa, Nancy Sinatra, Ronald Reagan and Debbie Harry fit into the tale? What Hollywood secrets did the industry, the police and the prosecution strive to keep hidden? Were the victims really chosen at random by a crazed cult of serial killers, high on a mix of LSD, Satanism and the music of the Beatles? Read on to uncover the secrets of the Manson family, their trial, the main players in the case and the murky world of Hollywood. The book contains 564 pages, 200,000+ words containing a complete history of the life of Charles Manson.A detailed examination of the Hinman, Shea, Tate and LaBianca murders, appraisal of all the most prominent theories surrounding the case, explanations of the coded confessions revealed in interviews with Manson.Stories of celebrity encounters, facts about Manson's relationship with the music industry, details of organised crime connections, faults with the prosecution's case, troubling indications about the motives and character of Vincent Bugliosi, examinations of further murders and other criminal activity possibly connected to Manson.Revelations about the main players involved in the case, embarrassing secrets of the Hollywood elite, suggestions of police ineptitude, signs of a cover-up, bizarre coincidences, strange occurrences, salacious gossip, radical political movements, riots, the Black Panthers, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, cults, religion, sex, drugs and murder.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
Physical media is serving up a smorgasbord of films with reevaluations and those that have found their audiences over the year. They include a pair of LBGTQ films hovering around their 20th anniversaries. Horror remakes, prequels and sequel adjacent films as well a package of hard-to-find Larry Cohen projects. Martin Scorsese went to bat for a 1952 paranoia that was spoofed on MST3K while Quentin Tarantino found inspiration in the first of Shout Factory's remastered Asian action releases. Michael Caine is a badass in a classic British crime film and one of the funniest films of all-time celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a new edition.3:51 - Criterion (Saving Face)7:51 - Lionsgate (But I'm a Cheerleader)16:05 - Arrow (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) (4K), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 4K)25:26 - Vinegar Syndrome (The Rage: Carrie 2 (4K), The Card Player (4K), Mac and Me (4K))48:29 - Film Masters (Invasion, U.S.A. Batman Through the Ages: Celebrating Forever and the Dawn of Begins! This episode is a double dose of Dark Knight action! We're commemorating the 30th anniversary of Joel Schumacher's divisive "Batman Forever,” starring Val Kilmer as the caped crusader alongside Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face and Jim Carrey's The Riddler, alongside Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell's Robin. We'll debate its campy charm, unforgettable performances and its rightful place in pop culture as we also leap forward to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Christopher Nolan's groundbreaking “Batman Begins.” Relive the gritty realism that redefined the genre, with Christian Bale's iconic portrayal, Michael Caine's wise Alfred, and Liam Neeson's chilling Ra's al Ghul, alongside a stacked cast that also includes Cillian Murphy, Katie Holmes, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Tom Wilkinson, and more! From neon Gotham to a city shrouded in fear, we explore the evolution of Batman on the big screen during crucial milestones for both films.Where To Watch Batman ForeverWhere To Watch Batman Begins

Acceso anticipado para Fans - Esta semana sacamos del Congelador una de las películas más recordadas de Michael Caine en Reino Unido. Brian dusts off the old "Violent Ends" episode format, comparing two films with similar premises but different tenors of outcome -- one happy, one bloody. Here, they consider the 1975 John Huston epic about Sean Connery and Michael Caine infiltrating a native tribe and the 2000 DreamWorks musical comedy. Join as they discuss the depiction of imperialism and Indigenous cultures in movies like these, the adult innuendos in Road to El Dorado, and stiff upper lip English self-sacrifice. This week, DISASTERPIECE celebrates the 50th anniversary of JAWS by taking a look at its worst sequel, JAWS: THE REVENGE … A movie so crazy and misguided that a shark seeking personal revenge on the Brody family is the least of its problems.Join Steve and Justin as they navigate a sea of insane decision-making that includes (but is not limited to): a magic shark that can roar, Michael Caine in shorts, telepathy, extremely horny characters, and some of the craziest dialogue the boys have ever had to try to decode. Not to mention one of the most unjustified explosions in film history.Nothing in this movie makes much sense … except for the dollar signs in the producers' eyes. Luckily, when JAWS: THE REVENGE was released, audiences made it clear that they were “DONE-DONE” with the franchise, and let the descendants of Bruce the shark rest ... for now.BUY OUR MERCH! This title may look like a typo, but those of you who follow Michael Caine on Twitter X know it's quite deliberate. Danny and Kevin celebrate 20 years (to the day) of Batman Begins by providing a commentary track for this beloved Christopher Nolan film. The duo discuss the impact of this picture and The Dark Knight trilogy on both the superhero genre as well as general blockbuster popcorn films while occasionally referencing how awesome the scene playing at the time of their rambling is. They also ask important questions, like is Katie Holmes really that bad of an actor? Or, what's so special about condensed milk? If you are watching the movie while listening, hit play on the movie at the 1 minute 50 second mark of the podcast. Follow us on Instagram and email us at coffeeanddeathsticks@gmail.com

Last week, mid-show in Milwaukee, my mic stand took a nosedive. (Fine, maybe I kicked it during André's filthy solo. The man shreds—what do you want from me?) But here's the thing—I didn't stop. Michael Caine once gave acting advice: “Use the difficulty.” So that's what I did. I didn't fix it. I used it. Because that's the difference between a recital and a show. One chases perfection. The other turns chaos into gold. Live performance is alchemy. In this episode, I share one of my most embarrassing live music stories, I dig into Michael Caine's advice, a little philosophy on stage-craft, and some thoughts from my buddy Dan Rodriguez on what it means to actually perform.

In this week's episode of Born to Watch, we're diving deep, like three layers deep, into Christopher Nolan's reality-bending sci-fi thriller with our Inception (2010) Review. The team celebrates three years of podcasting with one of the most mind-twisting films of the 21st century. It's only fitting that a film about dreams, time loops, and subconscious sabotage kicks off our birthday episode. With a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Ken Watanabe, this Nolan original has become a modern classic. But is it as smart as it thinks it is? Does the top fall? And how many times do you really need to watch it to understand what the hell is going on?Whitey, G-Man, and Damo don't just scratch the surface, they go full inception mode, breaking down the film's ambitious plot, its dream architecture, and whether Cobb is actually home with his kids or just lost in another layer. From Dreamscapes to DiCaprioWhitey kicks off with his usual gusto, revealing that he saw Inception solo on opening day, classic cinephile move. He hails it as peak Nolan and DiCaprio's most complex role, while G-Man confesses he just watched the movie in full for the first time this week. Damo, meanwhile, delivers the ultimate snob flex: he's seen it three times and still finds new details with each watch. The team breaks down Dom Cobb's fractured psyche, the emotionally rich (and confusing) relationship with Mal, and how Ariadne (played by Elliot (Ellen) Page) is more than just the new recruit; she's the audience surrogate. There's praise for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's gravity-defying hallway fight and Tom Hardy's cheeky charm as dream-forger Eames. Hardy might just be playing his most “normal” character ever. The Nolan EffectFrom the layered timelines to the rules of the dream world, Nolan's script is pure high-concept storytelling. The boys debate the film's exposition-heavy style, with Damo defending it as necessary and Whitey pointing out how cleverly the rules are integrated into dialogue. G-Man admits that the film almost lost him early on, but it eventually clicked. The group agrees that what sets Inception apart isn't just its ambition, it's the balance between visual spectacle and emotional stakes. Cobb's longing to return to his children grounds the entire story. As Whitey puts it, “Love is the engine of the movie.” And that spinning top at the end? The debate rages, with Damo arguing that the wedding ring, not the top, is Cobb's real totem.Zimmer's Sonic BoomHans Zimmer's iconic score is one of the true stars of the episode and the film. The guys take a detour to relive their recent trip to see Zimmer live, where “Time” was the final encore and “Mombasa” opened the show. Damo drops some deep trivia, including Zimmer's creation of the signature “braaam” sound that became a staple in modern trailers.Zimmer's blend of orchestral grandeur and percussive power is credited with elevating Inception to the next level. It's not just background music, it's narrative glue.Big Ideas, Bigger DebatesThe episode also tackles the meta: could inception be real? Is dream-sharing possible? The crew has fun exploring the logic (and illogic) of the film's concept, concluding that it's a hard "maybe". They also dive into Nolan's place in the pantheon of modern directors, putting him above even some of the biggest names for his commitment to originality.Damo offers a run-through of the best Nolan films, debating whether Inception tops The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and Memento. G-Man drops trivia about the film's production and cast (yes, Pete Postlethwaite was only in it for three minutes), and the whole crew salutes Nolan's ability to deliver blockbuster-level art films.IN THIS EPISODE:Dream physics, logic puzzles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in zero-GThe tragic brilliance of Mal and why Cobb's guilt is the real villainTom Hardy: suave or too normal? The mystery of Ariadne's tiny pantsIs this peak Nolan? In the 1960s, Natalie Wood was one of the world's leading actress, her star shining as bright as Elizabeth Taylor's. She'd been acting since she was a small child, appearing in movies like Miracle on 34th Street. She'd starred opposite James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, and she'd been linked romantically to Warren Beatty, Michael Caine, Elvis Presley, and Dennis Hopper. And her husband, actor Robert Wagner, may have gotten away with killing her off of Catalina Island in 1981, during a weekend getaway the couple shared with none other than Christoper Walken. In 2005, filmmaker Christopher Nolan was about to become mainstream with the first movie in his superhero trilogy. Meanwhile, a group of developers in Derby were working on a video game tie-in for said movie that wouldn't turn out to be quite as popular. We're taking a look at an action adventure game that was neither a precursor to a game based on The Dark Knight, nor The Dark Knight Returns. We're talking Batman Begins. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about trailers that feature Batman smiling, Trailer Voice Man, and Phoenix International. We also look at how important it was for this to be an interactive version of the movie in almost every way, as well as a cavalcade of celebs: a disinterested Morgan Freeman, a bloodthirsty Cillian Murphy, anbemused Michael Caine, and a Christian Bale that thinks all this video game stuff is a complete waste of time. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: the first glimpses of many things that would become staples in the Arkham games; instilling fear in your enemies by interacting with very specific parts of the environment; goons dropping their guns when they're scared; the optic cable from Splinter Cell; an exceptionally violent inverted takedown; familiar punching and kicking, as performed by a more acrobatic, yet less fluid Batman; the weird context-sensitive special move thing; NO BATARANG BUSINESS; climbing things with 70% arm and 30% leg; bonus Game Boy Advance opinions; a lack of yellow paint; training in the Himalayas; driving the tumbler around Gotham like it's a Burnout game; dingy rooms illuminated by beams of light coming through blinds; restrictions vs limitations; being rewarded(?) with clips from the film in between levels; odd differences in the narrative; Gary Oldman's absence; and a lockpicking minigame that's the same every single time. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Batman Begins is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Deus Ex on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
Following up on our C2E2 conversation about things that could be improved by monkeys, robots, or Michael Caine, please enjoy this special rerun of the first time that topic appeared on the Atomic Geeks podcast. With special thanks to Carlin Trammel for the idea and Christian Nielsen for the audio and permission.
You don't put Christian Nielsen, Michael DiGiovanni, Carlin Trammel, Shawn Robare, William Bruce West, Rob Graham, Michael May, Jeeg, and Paxton Holley in a room together and not record a podcast. While at C2E2, the group (minus Jeff Somogyi who sadly was not feeling well that evening) gathered in Christian and DiGio's hotel room to revive the classic Atomic Geeks topic: "Robot, Monkey, Michael Caine." Each person suggests a movie, TV show, event, etc. and discuss what would best improve it: a monkey, a robot, or... well, you'll see.
In this episode, Phil and Janelle talk about fraudulent charges, Jim Henson, Michael Caine, improv, Nintendo, The Lord of the Rings, animation, Switch 2, and more.

You'll hear about the fascinating process of selecting a new Pope, including the political lobbying and secret whispering that happens behind closed doors."Pope Francis was seen as kind of the wild ass Pope. He DJed in a lot of clubs.""Can we have a trans Pope?"KT's humorous take on the movie "Conclave" and its surprising plot twist. The hosts' debate on whether John Lithgow or Michael Caine is the better actor.
Theatre director Robert Icke's production of Oedipus won best revival and a best actress award for Lesley Manville at last night's Olivier Awards - but his new play Manhunt is now demanding his attention at the Royal Court Theatre in London. The drama focuses on the story of Raoul Moat who attacked his ex-girlfriend and killed her new boyfriend before a stand-off with armed police which ended in his suicide. Samira talks to Robert Icke and to Samuel Edward-Cook who plays Moat. The Edwardian era - from Queen Victoria's death to the start of the First World War - is the subject of a new exhibition at the King's Gallery in London. Samira is joined by its curator Kathryn Jones from the Royal Collection Trust and by the historian and Alwyn Turner, author of Little Englanders: Britain in the Edwardian Era.The Swinging Sixties bring to mind films like Michael Caine's Alfie and the social realist dramas like Up The Junction. But A Touch of Love, released in 1969 and now getting a fresh outing on DVD, offers up an unusual female perspective on the era of free love. Margaret Drabble adapted her own novel the Millstone for the film which starred Sandy Dennis - alongside a young Ian McKellen in his first screen role. We hear from its director Waris Hussein - who also directed the first episodes of Dr Who.
