Does Kenny Hirsch have the most beautiful smile in all of Long Island real estate? It's very possible. Is he the most popular man in Long Island real estate? Probably. Does he know what he's talking about? Absolutely! Beyond the handsome face and charisma there's someone truly passionate and knowledgeable about our industry, how else would he be on track to close over 60 deals this year alone? Kenny has a fascinating life story, going from a professional BMX rider to a top Long Island realtor, using the same love for adrenalin and adventure in each pursuit. There is probably no one else with the combination of professional AND racing credentials than Dr J. As well as a successful career as a Pro BMX racer in the 90s and into the 2000s, he's a psychologist that has helped many BMX athletes reach their personal, and performance, potential. KY reached out to Jason during his career and he recalls how it set him down a better path. We talk about addiction, both healthy and unhealthy. We talk about mental strength and the need to adapt in certain situations, and stations, in life. Discussions cover the various Federation programs and the success of the French, and the drop off of both the Australian and USA's (male's) depth and breadth in recent years, and how "struggle" might be the key to rebuilding the once strong programs. Boy, at just shy of 2 hours, there's not much we didn't discuss, yet there's plenty more to perhaps. Riders, parents of riders (especially parents) should tune in to this special episode where we don't mention AC once, and is bereft of Khalen's favourite adjective. Thank you Dr J, this was an incredible unpacking of your years of experience as both an athlete, and as a therapist helping current and past riders.

Who doesn't like a two part episode?I suppose it depends on the content. And let's face it, sometimes we don't know what we don't know. It's fascinating to think about the phenomenon of not knowing what we don't know. When you learn a new skill and you believe you have mastered it, knowing everything you can about that particular skill, you still can learn something new about that skill. That is the part of growth that we don't really consider. I mean look at the pro athletes that seem untouchable on a track, at a park, on the slopes, or on the water, there is always something new for them to learn. So you don't know what you don't know. It's awesome to have Nic hang around and stay interested in recording a second episode. I really felt that Nic has way more value to share and he was very open to sharing. So I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass me by and after a few attempts we sat back down and knocked it out. We are stoked to share this episode and know there are some sick nuggets that you will get out of this episode like you did on the first.Enjoy!Be sure to join The Action Sports Club so you can learn how to land sponsorships and spend more time riding.
Here at The Action Sports Club we always say “Spend more time riding”.That is the dream right? So how do we get to the point where we can spend more time riding? We regularly meet guests for the podcast that are so focused on spending more time riding that they either find a career (or create one) that helps them live that lifestyle. There are so many enthusiasts and athletes that live a lifestyle like this. It's quite fascinating to hear each of their stories and how they landed in those positions. And to let you in on a little secret… Each one looked for every possible opportunity to make it happen.Nic Hilton really wowed me on the podcast with his methods and thoughts of what he could accomplish. His content definitely shows his passion. Being 100% honest, he makes great content! This episode unfolds so much about Nic that I was surprised to learn and he really was able to captivate me with his stories and experiences. We are stoked to share his story and give you the opportunity to consider new ideas and avenues of work that might interest you so you can spend more time riding.Take notes.Enjoy!Be sure to join The Action Sports Club so you can learn how to land sponsorships and spend more time riding.
Welcome to Episode 17 of the Steed Cycles podcast! This time around we're talking with Mischa Partridge, pro BMX and track cyclist turned athletic therapist. Mischa is another one of those guys that's spent a lot of time racing bikes on a pro level, which has set him up well for the rest of his career. Mischa started riding BMX as a kid and took up racing at the late(ish) age of 11. He progressed quickly and wound up racing for many years on the Canadian National BMX team internationally, which gave him a great understanding of the world of high-performance sport and a unique perspective that many people don't have. BMX racing is an extremely high intensity sport, and having spent his fair share of time injured and working with therapists and learning how to rehabilitate himself, Mischa developed an interest in physical therapy and exericise therapy himself. These experiences lead Mischa to pursue a career in exercise therapy - he gained a bachelor's degree in sports and exercise therapy and is a certified athletic therapist. Following his passion for racing and competition, Mischa spent a season working with the Candian National BMX team, this time as their travelling therapist and now is working with Volleyball Canada, despite admittedly not being a volleyball buff, the human body still works and responds the same.Mischa is a super talented and interesting person with a lot of knowledge and passion to share with the rest of us. Tune in and listen to his story!

MEET MICHAEL ARDELEAN:Michael Ardelean has always worked at the intersection of art and money. Having grown up bored and broke in suburban Detroit, Michael knew how to get a lot out of a little—streamlining processes and shaking off the baggage of life is his guiding philosophy. His first career, as a pro BMX biker, inspired him to share this outlook and his strategies with others struggling to design a comfortable life around their passion. He moved into merchandising, with a VP role at Alternative Apparel, followed by several years managing a design studio. Michael then began helping creative freelancers with the business end of their work as a consultant. Today, he runs his own recruiting firm, Intro, with the goal of improving organizations (like Madhappy and Buck Mason) by empowering individuals. His passion is advocating for artists of all kinds by helping them make their unique talents financially viable. Michael’s new book, Art For Money, shows creative freelancers what can happen when you cut out what’s not serving you, focus on what you can improve, and dream big. In my recent Conscious Leadership in Action conversation with Josh Perry, Josh talked about three principles he has learned on his journey from Pro BMX athlete to multiple brain tumor survivor and inspirational speaker. Josh almost died because doctors thought his headaches were quite normal and it wasn’t until a routine brain scan following a training accident that two massive brain tumors were revealed. Five years after Gamma Knife Radiotherapy was used to zap and shrink the tumors, two new massive masses were found to have grown on the other side of Josh’s head. Today, even though the tumors have been shrunk and are now stable, Josh lives with the knowledge of these tumors in his brain. Josh has adopted a ketogenic lifestyle to optimize brain health and, practicing mindfulness, is managing his stress levels more effectively. More than that, Josh is now helping others overcome their challenges and realize their dreams. He has developed three principles as a foundation for his inspirational messages. Josh’s three principles are: Perspective is Essential to Life. How we choose to see the world leads us to take action one way or another, and this determines our personality and creates our personal reality. When we audit our perspective and redirect it in a manner that serves us, we can then create abundance in all areas of life. Health is Internal. Josh’s brain tumors weren’t showing up on the outside, but they were there all the same. The experience of a massive brain tumor taking over his life and almost killing him, led Josh to the ketogenic lifestyle to improve brain health, resiliency, and performance. Josh learned very vividly that health is not just what’s on the outside and now believes that our external being is a reflection of our internal health. Our Reality is a Manifestation of our Choices. Understanding that our personality creates our personal reality and that health is internal, gives us the opportunity to manifest the reality we choose every single day. Josh says, I choose to manifest the life I desire, no matter how hard it may seem in the moment, and I encourage others to do the same. Today Josh Perry is a happy, healthy 30-year-old man with his whole life ahead of him. Nine years ago, shortly after achieving a lifelong goal of becoming a professional BMX athlete, he received his first brain tumor diagnosis. Josh had a meningioma, a benign tumor that caused intense headaches and significantly impaired vision. His tumor was successfully removed through an open craniotomy, an invasive surgical procedure that requires opening of the skull. His recovery was slow but within two months Josh was back on the BMX circuit. He felt he’d been given a second chance and took advantage of every opportunity to compete, travel, perform and give back to the community. As one of a handful of people to have survived three separate brain tumors, Josh believes it is his mission to help educate people with brain tumors about their options. He founded The Josh Perry Foundation as his way of giving back to those with brain tumors, brain injuries, and other brain disorders. Nearly 78,000 new cases of primary brain tumors (including cancerous and non-cancerous tumors) were diagnosed last year, and nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. alone are living with primary brain and central nervous system tumors. Josh’s goal is to share his story and the importance of prioritizing health and well-being to live a long, full life. Check out Josh’s blog Daily Brainstorms to read more about his story, see some cool BMX videos and read about his newfound love for sauerkraut and kombucha. Tufts Medical Center in Boston just called with my latest MRI results: There are two new masses on the right side of my brain the size of peas (about 8mm in size from residual growth), where the surgery was done. My options are to follow it and see if it changes in growth, MRI no sooner than six months, Gamma Knife radiosurgery or full-on open cranial surgery. Haha, yay."The message arrives in text form from Josh Perry, a 27-year-old professional BMX rider about to enter the 2017 competition season. A week before, we had spoke on the phone for an hour about his life as a professional BMX rider currently living and training in Cary, North Carolina, and how he was aiming to push himself into a larger role as an advocate for nutritional health and positive thinking, working with brands outside of BMX to help expose larger audiences to the passion that he's devoted his life to.A week later, the above message arrives. Ordinarily, the news has the potential to derail an entire day or year, let alone positive ambitions for the future. But Perry isn't like anyone I've ever met before. On top of all of the common injuries that accompany the life of a pro BMXer, this isn't Perry's first experience with masses in his brain. In fact, this is his third time.Perry quickly follows up with another text message: "Just rode a morning session and rode just as well as I've been riding. Nothing has changed if I don't allow it to." This from a guy who has already had his skull cut open to remove a large tumor, while doctors stopped the flow of blood to his brain through an artery in his groin."If I didn't hit my head riding, I'd be dead."Perry's history with brain tumors began in March of 2010.Perry was attempting to learn a new BMX Park trick on a quarterpipe when he over-rotated and landed off the bike, crashing down on his shoulder and head. Although he was wearing a helmet, Perry decided to undergo an MRI because of the fear of traumatic brain injury. But this wasn't Perry's first bout with injury as a BMX professional. There were lingering, unanswered issues in his recent medical history. Throughout that past year, he had been experiencing periods of intense headaches coupled with bouts of temporary blindness. After repeated doctor visits and an attempt by doctors to get Perry on pain killers, nothing had been diagnosed.Essentially, it took a BMX crash (the exact outcome Perry aimed to avoid) to get him to undergo a brain scan, and discover the source of his symptoms. But the outcome of the examination was not anything that he had expected. "I wanted to get an MRI to make sure my brain wasn't swelling and the doctors told me 'Yeah, you have a large mass that shouldn't be in your brain and it's a tumor, and we're not sure it's cancerous or benign but it needs to come out.'"Please do NOT hesitate to reach out to me on LinkedIn, Instagram, or via email mark@vudream.comLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/markmetry/Twitter - https://twitter.com/markymetryMedium - https://medium.com/@markymetryFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/Humans.2.0.PodcastMark Metry - https://www.markmetry.com/Humans 2.0 Twitter - https://twitter.com/Humans2Podcast
