Shoot us a Text.Episode #1007: Consumers hit showrooms ahead of tariff hikes, juicing March sales and making record months and Q1s. Dealers like Rhett Ricart and Zac Kinch fielded a flood of buyers with questions and Amazon dropped Nova Act—an AI agent that shops, browses, and books like a pro.Spurred by tariff fear, consumers flooded showrooms in late March, giving the U.S. auto market a surge just in time for Q1 closings. The urgency sparked record performances for brands and sent retail sales soaring.Ford was up 19%, with Hyundai (+15%) and Kia (+25%) posting their best ever March and Q1. GM posted a 17% Q1 jump, with Buick leading at +39%.Inventory shortages, especially in hybrids, are expected in Q2 as a result of early Q1 pull-forwards.The average March retail price hit $44,849, up $637 YoY.Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai and Genesis North America: “It's probably the best weekend that I've seen since Cash for Clunkers… Lots of people rushed in this weekend, especially, to try and beat the tariffs.”The looming reality of sweeping import tariffs sent ripple effects through the auto retail landscape over the weekend, as dealers fielded a surge of questions and customer visits. While many came to buy, others came simply to understand what's coming.Dealers are racing to educate consumers: inventory levels ticked up as brands rushed vehicles into the U.S. before the deadline. The Trump administration's 25% import tariff is set to hit over 7 million vehicles starting April 3.Automakers are taking a mixed approach to pricing ahead of the tariffs—some, like BMW, are temporarily holding prices steady on imported models, while others are reducing incentives despite rising inventory, anticipating that tariffs will naturally drive prices higher. Rhett Ricart, CEO, Ricart Automotive Group said “One out of four of the people who called in were talking about tariffs—‘Does this car have a tariff on it? A Hyundai? A Kia? A Nissan?' That's what they wanted to know about.”Zac Kinch, GM, Bob Rohrman Toyota said “This is gonna be, ‘Learn and fly by the seat of our pants'... I think the auto industry is going to have to figure it out.”Amazon is diving deeper into AI with Nova Act, a semi-autonomous agent designed to operate both online and in the real world. With capabilities like browsing, shopping, and task execution, Nova Act is aiming to be your new digital helper.Nova Act can complete tasks like finding rentals, placing orders, or filling out forms.Nova Act SDK lets developers build bots for hotel bookings, food orders, and more.It comes in text-generation tiers (Micro, Lite, Pro) and supports image (Canvas) and video (Reel) creation.“Nova.amazon.com puts the power of Amazon's frontier intelligence into the hands of every developer,” said Rohit Prasad, SVP of Amazon AGI.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, sHosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

We continue Marc's Miserable MARVELous May with 1990's Captain America - movie that should have been made by New World Pictures but wasn't. Instead, it was made by the Cannon Films offshoot, 21st Century Film Corporation. which is why we invited the author of The Cannon Film Guide, Austin Trunick, to join us to discuss this straight-to-video superhero movie. Austin shares some fascinating stories about the making of Captain America while we debate important questions like: Is Captain America actually a superhero or just a regular guy with super strong frisbee golf skills? Is Captain America the older sibling of Ralphie and Randy Parker from A Christmas Story? Can a piano stay tuned when placed on a castle wall overlooking the ocean? Should you let your kids wander the streets of Washington DC at night so they can practice their amateur photography skills? We discuss.

When hump day rolls around and it drops us in the middle of the month, we have to talk about some controversy, naturally. Leading off this morning are Volvo's plans for a direct to consumer model, followed by Hyundai and Kia battling TikTok and the release of the consumer pricing index.Volvo's European plans for direct to consumer sales has US dealers prepping for defensive measures with the automaker.Volvo's new CEO, Jim Rowan, argued the disconnect between the OEM and consumer in pre- and post- sale environments goes against his experience in the consumer electronics industry.“Dealer associations in at least two states — Virginia and California — sent Volvo letters warning that the strategy might violate the automaker's dealer agreements or state laws meant to prevent automakers from competing with their franchises.”Plans are to use the UK as a proving ground and learning environment for the brandFollowing the TikTok trend of stolen Kia and Hyundai vehicles, the automaker is set to provide a software update to mitigate the risk to owners.Way back on Nov. 23, we talked about how a St. Louis dealership was installing $200 bluetooth repeaters to prevent theft.Hyundai's free software patch will be available on 1M out of the 4M affected vehicles, and include an anti-theft sticker to deter attack, a longer alarm, and the need for a physical key to start the vehicle.“Hyundai is committed to ensuring the quality and integrity of our products through continuous improvement and is pleased to provide affected customers with an additional theft deterrent through this software upgrade,” said Randy Parker, CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “We have prioritized the upgrade's availability for owners and lessees of our highest selling vehicles and those most targeted by thieves in order for dealers to service them first.”Hyundai expects to have a fix for the other 3M vulnerable vehicles in June. The consumer price index was released yesterday, showing slowing inflation, and markets stayed stable despite growth in major index categories like food and energy. The average of all items was up 6.4%, with eggs taking the top spot up over 70% YOY.Vehicles took an 11.6% dip, which we know in the industry, which is a line item attached to only a small subset of the population, in contrast to the other items.Worth noting is the fact that common household items are the largest factors to consider in the impact of inflation on consumers in lower income brackets.“It's clear that the Federal Reserve has more to do in order to continue to slow down inflation,” said Eugenio Aleman, chief economist at Raymond James.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email Share your positive dealer stories: https://www.asotu.com/positivity ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

It's the first day of November and we're fired up to talk about a bright spot in Hyundai's supply chain, as well as a gathering of some of the most powerful marketers in the country. Rob and Danny welcomed Randy Parker to the show to talk about "The Valley Isle" of Maui.Randy characterized the spirit of the island as laid back, friendly, not contrived. An island of discovery with small towns meeting natural wonders.Must-see places on the island? Great beaches of different colors. Randy joked that you could just about go to a beach with different colored sand every day. Sunset sails, snorkel trips, helicopter rides....all things that are worth your time. Ian Petrella Interview “We're naturally meant to be connected, so we're starting to get tired of being disconnected.” — Dianne A. Allen This week on the Someone Gets Me Podcast, I interviewed Ian Petrella. Ian Petrella started his acting career at the age of three, a suggestion by an Aunt who worked at the Herb Tannen Talent Agency. Ian was presented a contract and a S.A.G. card after his very first audition. Through the years he appeared in numerous television commercials and T.V. shows. In 1983 Ian landed the part of Randy Parker in the now classic holiday film "A Christmas Story". It wouldn't be till later in his career when Ian would receive any kind of recognition for the role, but it was this film that put him into the hearts of millions. Ian continues to tour and make appearances during the holiday season along with the rest of the cast of "A Christmas Story", bringing back fond memories to thousands of fans old and new. See what he is up to now on this week’s Someone Gets Me Podcast. Part One of ‘Ian Petrella Interview’ Attending auditions has been a normal routine for Ian when he was young and by the time he got his big break, he was so proud of it and managed to balance his excitement and professionalism as an eight-year-old actor. In 1983, Ian landed the part of Randy Parker in the now classic holiday film "A Christmas Story". This film elevated his career. Now, he is an amazing, talented adult, living his vision, everything from improv and puppetry and other forms of acting. “You're going to be put on screen, and everybody's going to love you. But if you're not prepared for it, it can go to your head, and you could do some damaging things.” – Dianne A. Allen Improv is something that he wanted to pursue for a long time. He’s eager to follow the footsteps of his so-called heroes, the people he admires the most. Ian also shares that the hardest thing about improv is it's not always about going for the joke or punch line. Improv is completely different from that. It's really more about listening to other people you're working with on stage. It's all about give and take. Part Two of ‘Ian Petrella Interview’ Another interesting thing about Ian is that he’s attracted to puppetry because it feeds his creativity. Growing up, he loved watching puppets until he got into it later on as an adult. There was a time when he was only a production assistant and asked the director if he could play with the puppets. That opened up an opportunity for his potential to be seen. Thus, he started working on different projects with that company. The 90s was a challenging time to get into puppetry because computers were coming in. “Hollywood is a big game of "follow the leader." Whoever comes up with a good idea first, that's who you follow after that.” – Dianne A. Allen In today’s digital era, puppetry is starting to make a good comeback. People sense nostalgia when they see a puppet. The most exciting part about it is that you’re acting using your voice and having to give all your emotions through body language to make that moment seem more alive. Ian decided it was time to come home, not to L.A., but to San Francisco, where he studied film and performed puppetry independently for film and stage. While in school Ian discovered animation. This was a good discovery since Ian was running out of money to perform and make puppets. Ian still continues his passion with cartooning to this day. Ian Petrella Full Bio Ian Petrella started his acting career at the age of three, a suggestion by an Aunt who worked at the Herb Tannen Talent Agency. Ian was presented a contract and a S.A.G. card after his very first audition. Through the years he appeared in numerous television commercials and T.V. shows. Through his teen years Ian continued acting, and later began to study comedy improv. He trained at L.A's famous Groundlings Comedy Theater. At age 17 he was the youngest person ever to audition, and be accepted to attend classes. Performing for small audiences around L.A. Ian earned his comedy chops. Acting wasn't enough for Ian's creative juices; he wanted to explore more avenues of the entertainment business. He got a small gig as a P.A. on a new puppet show. Ian discovered that he was pretty good with puppets and that begin his career as a puppeteer. This landed him a few gigs on Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and a great opportunity to work on a Jim Henson project. After the millennium the work seemed to slow down and Ian quit acting and show business altogether. He turned in his S.A.G. card for a passport and left for Europe. During his six-month escape, Ian got a chance to study and learn the art of marionette puppetry in the Czech Republic. As destiny would have it, Ian received a call from a gentleman inviting him to the 20th anniversary of "A Christmas Story". Rekindling with cast members and friends from his past, prompted Ian to give Hollywood another shot. With a new spark of inspiration to get his name back in the spotlight, Ian could once again re-light a fire that he thought died out a long time ago. Settling back in Los Angeles CA., Ian co-founded a production company creating web content and producing various animated shorts. How to Connect with Dianne A. With Americans going into and out of and into quarantine again, there has been an explosion in the use of telehealth during the COVID-19 epidemic. Telehealth refers broadly to electronic and telecommunications technologies and services used to provide care and services at-a-distance. The biggest barriers to telehealth—namely, government and payer resistance and HIPAA patient privacy restrictions—came crumbling down amid the COVID-19 pandemic, reports the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. Telehealth is now at a tipping point that has driven a new way of thinking in the sense of how efficient and powerful these tools can be for health care consumer and provider alike. Today we talk with telehealth pioneer Randy Parker, Founder and CEO of Genius Rx, a full-service, online pharmacy that officially launched this month to make access to medicines, OTC products, and wellness supplements simple, intuitive, and personal but at-a-distance. Randy, who is also the Founder and former CEO of MDLIVE, brings more than 30 years of experience starting and building successful, disruptive, consumer-focused companies using the latest technologies. ◘ Related Content GeniusRx https://welcome.geniusrx.com/app/ Implications for Telehealth in a Postpandemic Future https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2766369 Telehealth: A Balanced Look at Incorporating This Technology Into Practice https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2377960818786504 Barriers and Facilitators That Influence Telemedicine-Based, Real-Time, Online Consultation at Patients' Homes: Systematic Literature Review https://www.jmir.org/2020/2/e16407/ Pandemic triggers big swings in prescription drug use https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/pandemic-triggers-big-swings-prescription-drug-71118246 ◘ Transcript https://bit.ly/3jIUoHd ◘ This podcast features the song “Follow Your Dreams” (freemusicarchive.org/music/Scott_Ho…ur_Dreams_1918) by Scott Holmes, available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial (01https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) license. ◘ Disclaimer: The content and information shared in GW Integrative Medicine is for educational purposes only and should not be taken as medical advice. OptimizeRx - Learning Together: Navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic
In the face of social distancing to prevent further spread of coronavirus, telemedicine has emerged as the best, and most viable method to ensure patients have access to medical consults and care. And while this is by no means new technology, it is experiencing unprecedented demand and ease of regulations to help support our healthcare system during this crisis. But will these temporary changes pave the way to a more permanent place at the table for telemedicine? And will broader telehealth initiatives persist after the pandemic subsides? In this episode, we discuss the intricacies and opportunities of this extraordinary moment for telemedicine, the growing importance of virtual care and its place in telehealth, and what these changes imply for the healthcare industry as a whole. Guests: Carla Smith, CEO of Carla Smith Health, Senior Advisor to Springboard Enterprises Life Sciences Council, CareTeam Technologies Inc, b.well Connected Health, among others; former Executive Vice President of HIMSS. On this episode of AGP I welcome Kenny Keen from Midnight Horizon to the show. In 1996 Midnight Horizon Comics was founded by Kenny Keen as a small press comic book company. While honing his skills he made his first attempt at publishing the rough and gritty, action packed SLAYER : One Shot. This was a character that he had created as a child and was done in vein of a lot of indy 90's properties such as The Crow, Razor, and Frank Miller's Batman run. Dark, edgy comics was everywhere back then but the market became flooded with them and Slayer which still had an ameraturish look to it went on hiatis for a bit. Jumping into the small press scene, Kenny then published some of his older Expulse comics and contributing art chores to a few small press comics. He later picked back up on Slayer as a series and also partnered up with Highburn Studios and contributed lettering for several of their comics. Realising that Slayer was going in the wrong direction and not yet ready to put his mark on the comic book industry, Kenny pulled back before finishing issue 5 and plans a revamp and relaunch for the character that he holds close to his heart., He then went on to publish an updated Expulse #1 written by Keen with art by Lyle Pollard followed by Ruthless #0 written by Randy Parker with art by Pollard once more, and inks by Keen, Michael Watkins, John Anderson, and Pollard. Pulling back from the Super Hero scene, Keen then focused on a new horror antholgy idea back in 2008 and launched the yearly published "Horrific Tales Anthology." The book would run for four years collecting stories from several talented, upcoming writers and artists. The company now has grown and matured from it's small press days and has bigger goals on where it's headed in the future. It has a focus on the darker, edgier side of comics. Horror, Vigilante Justice, Edgy Super Hero Adventures, Gritty Cartoons and Mature Slice of Life comics are what genres we will be covering. Something for everyone.
