The 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid is all that flash, but after testing it this week, we think consumers will really respond to its combination of versatility, fun-to-drive, and incredible fuel economy. The Environmental Protection Agency says it has a range of more than 600 miles on a tankful of gas. At the same time, Host Jack Nerad found it delivered excellent performance with more brio than you might expect. With a fresh design and a shift to hybrid-only powertrains, it now offers two hybrid configurations: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. We tested the 225-horsepower front-drive version and found that its acceleration more than met expectations. There's just something about electric motors' instant torque. Nerad will have a full report. More than 2,000 miles away, Co-Host Chris Teague was putting the battery-electric Volvo C40 Recharge through his test regimen. There is something perfect about the combination of fall colors, the Atlantic Coast, and the Volvo C40 recharge, and Teague will give us his conclusions. In the news this week, with somewhat curious timing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally opened an official investigation into Tesla and its Full Self-Driving software after years of studying the issue. Hmmm. What has changed? At the same time, Dodge assures us that the Hemi-V8 isn't dead yet. Despite its recent troubles, it has just proven this by introducing an all-new Durango SRT special edition. We'll have the details. Sorry, potential car buyers — the prime interest rate is down, but car affordability remains a big challenge, according to a just-released report from Cox Automotive/Moody's Analytics. We'll have more on that coming up. Kia has just introduced a new accessory made from ocean waste. We'll tell you more about that very appealing new product and share our thoughts. This week, our special guest is our very own Co-Host, Chris Teague. He'll tell us about his recent experience with his new Honda Prologue battery-electric SUV and the home charging system he recently had installed. If you are considering purchasing an EV, listen up for that segment. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us, and don't forget to look for new content on our YouTube and Rumble channels. Please subscribe. If you do we'll like you forever. The King of the Hill Corvette is making a comeback, and we have the specifications, the hype and our comments on what the newest and hottest version of “America's Sports Car” means to you and to General Motors. The just-released specs on the new 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 are mind-boggling. Tucked behind the driver and passenger is the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer, and it's housed in an iconic design that has the goods to challenge the world's best supercars. Former Road & Track Editor Matt DeLorenzo and former Motor Trend Editor Jack Nerad, who is, of course, the host of America on the Road and owner of a classic Corvette, will give their thoughts on what promises to be a landmark vehicle. While some observers suggest that we have enough crossover SUVs already, Toyota obviously doesn't think so. To prove the point, the brand recently introduced the first-ever 2025 Toyota Crown Signia, and it's set to arrive in dealerships virtually as you read this. The brand is taking an upscale approach with its new toy. Available in XLE and Limited trims, the Crown Signia is equipped with the Toyota Hybrid System and all-wheel drive. With a four-cylinder engine doing the heavy lifting, the hybrid system delivers a net output of 240 horsepower and achieves an EPA-estimated 38 mpg combined rating. The Crown Signia's handsome exterior boasts a stylish and sleek monochromatic grille and the option for 21-inch wheels. Inside, the premium cabin offers seating for five and a fold-flat second row. Passengers can enjoy a quiet ride with standard leather-trimmed seating, soft-touch materials, and the option of a panoramic glass roof. The likable new model is also equipped with a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen and comes with standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 advanced driver assistance system array. Of course, all this sounds as appealing as a hot fudge sundae topped with real whipped cream, but how does it drive? Guest co-host Matt DeLorenzo will tell us in his portion of the road test segment. In the other half, host Jack Nerad will describe his weeklong encounter with Volvo's newest version of its C40 Recharge battery-electric crossover coupe. The big news is the Single Motor version of the Volvo C40 Recharge that Nerad tested. It's the first rear-drive Volvo in years, and it makes the handsome C40 Recharge a much more competitive player in the cutthroat BEV crossover market. This week, our special guest is Frank Hanley, head of automotive benchmarking at J.D. Power. If you want to know which vehicles are most loved by their owners—something that most of us would really like to know—he's the man to tell you. We'll have the results of J.D. Power's annual APEAL study and Hanley's analysis coming up in our interview segment. If you haven't noticed, new and used cars have rocketed up in price over the past five years, and now Cars.com details that trajectory in a new study. We'll have our take on what the trend means to you. Tesla is in the news again —isn't it always? — as it recalls more than 1.8 million vehicles for a safety problem. We'll tell you what the issue is this time and share our reactions. And there's a battle brewing over automatic emergency braking. We'll tell you who the combatants are and what is likely to happen next. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

Nealy every automaker offers an electric car nowadays. Volvo's second full EV is the C40 Recharge. Similar to the XC40 Recharge, it drops the X and the squared-off back end. C30 has more of a coupe silhouette. The interior is rich in recycled materials and it's packed with the newest interface that runs the Android Automotive user interface. How does its range and charge speed compare to other modern EVs? Tom Voelk travels to Palm Springs, CA to check one out in Fjord Blu . And true to Volvo's safety reputation, there's a section on what the company does to keep people from harm, and the companies commitment to sustainability and recycling.

Volvo is turning itself into a completely new brand with a strong emphasis on EVs. The latest example of that is the all-new Volvo C40 Recharge, a vehicle we got a chance to test drive in the desert of Southern California. Kristina Vasandani, Volvo Senior Product Manager, is an expert on the C40 Recharge EV, and Host Jack Nerad got the chance to talk with her at length about the new car and how it fits into Volvo's plans to concentrate heavily on electric vehicles. We'll have that insightful interview for you in this week's episode of America on the Road. It is New York Auto Show week so the new model introductions came thick and fast. In our news segment, we'll tell you about the 2023 Toyota bZ4X electric sport-utility, the 2023 Kia Niro, the 2023 Honda HR-V, and the truly mind-boggling 1,050-horsepower Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance. Does a sedan really need 1,000 horsepower? Or 1,050 for that matter? We'll discuss all that and the implications of what was introduced in New York including what it all means to you. In the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague took the wheel of the all-new 2022 Ford Maverick. Equipped with a hybrid powertrain, the base XL model could be the best automotive bargain on the road right now. Chris Teague will tell us how the small pickup worked out for his family as winter turned to spring in Maine. At the same time, Host Jack Nerad had the opportunity to drive the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, a sport utility that has strong off-road credentials. In the course of the rigorous test that involved a trip from Southern California to the Central Coast, he put more than 600 fresh miles on the 4Runner's odometer. Was it up to its on-road and off-road tasks? We'll reveal that in this week's episode.
Benjamin talks about the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and comes away thinking this may be a real competitor against the likes of German luxury. Hear him brag about the number of screens in his tester, and how Jeep manages to keep infotainment and other controls modern and simple. Sami chimes in with his confusing experience in the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge, a battery-electric vehicle with the same dimensions, powertrain and range as the XC40 EV, not to mention the Polestar 2. So what does the C40 do differently? Listen to Sami's highlights of the C40 and hear how Volvo is artificially inflating its showrooms. Then the duo chats about weird and confusing car trim names but like FOOLS they forgot to mention the long list of night-time related black-out models. Finally, they end the episode on a riff of this weeks news, including details about an Infiniti crossover that will fit between the QX50 and QX60 and won't be called the QX55. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 7th October. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. G.M. HOPES ELECTRIC CARS AND NEW BUSINESSES WILL HELP DOUBLE ITS REVENUE "General Motors Co (GM.N) Chief Executive Mary Barra told investors on Wednesday that the automaker plans to double revenue by 2030, expanding profits from combustion vehicles even as it rolls out new electric vehicles and new digitally powered services to catch up with Tesla Inc (TSLA.O)." reported Reuters yesterday: "GM said if it succeeds, annual revenue by 2030 would be about $280 billion, and the automaker would be the leader in U.S. electric vehicle sales. Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said GM expects pre-tax profit margins of 12 to 14%, which could beat current levels. That would imply annual pre-tax profits of as much as $39 billion. Jacobson said GM can fund $9 billion to $10 billion in annual capital spending for electric vehicles and other initiatives while returning money to shareholders." https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/gm-aims-double-revenues-by-2030-it-drives-pass-tesla-2021-10-06/ "General Motors has been spending billions of dollars in the last few years to electrify its cars and trucks, as it tries to catch up to Tesla. Now the company, which has said it aims to stop selling gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, is beginning to reveal how big it expects this bet will pay off." reports New York Times: "The automaker said on Wednesday that it aims to roughly double its annual revenue by 2030, to about $280 billion. It is counting on new electric trucks and cars for much of the growth while adding new revenue streams from software and services. While it expects modest growth in sales of gasoline-powered vehicles, electric cars are “a tremendous growth opportunity,” [Mary Barra, GM Chief Exec] said. G.M. also hopes to develop ride-hailing services that use autonomous cars, create insurance products and expand its defense contracting work. Read more: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/06/business/gm-revenue-goals.html# "General Motors laid out its forthcoming EV portfolio at its investor event Wednesday, with the full-size electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado as the centerpiece, as the company seeks to gain market share in the increasingly crowded electric truck market." was the take from TechCrunch: "While GM had previously announced the electric Silverado, the company confirmed some additional details, like that it would feature a fixed-glass roof for certain models and that the vehicle would debut at the trade show CES in January 2022. It's joining Ford's F-150 Lightning and Rivian's R1T in the burgeoning electric truck segment — a segment that until now has been conspicuously empty, despite the truck being one of the best-selling vehicle types in America. GM also announced crossovers from its brands Chevy and Buick, in addition to its upcoming GMC Hummer pickup and Cadillac Lyriq crossover. CEO Mary Barra emphasized that the company will offer affordable EVs — “really affordable EVs for people” — as well as other features to lure some would-be Tesla customers." The automaker announced the new system as a more capable sibling of today's Super Cruise system. While Super Cruise is rated for hands-free driving on mapped, divided highways in the US and Canada, Ultra Cruise takes it further. In addition to highways, GM said it will handle hands-free driving in 95% of all scenarios. We're talking city streets, subdivision streets and even paved rural roads." writes CNET.com: "Ultra Cruise will cover 2 million miles of roads in the US and Canada, but the automaker has quick plans to add another 1.4 million miles' worth of roads. And when this happens, GM plans for a big strategy shift in which vehicles offer either Super Cruise or Ultra Cruise. Cadillac will be the exclusive brand to provide the Ultra Cruise driving experience, while Super Cruise trickles down to more mainstream offerings from GMC, Buick and Chevrolet. With a combination of cameras, radars and lidar onboard to create the Ultra Cruise system, the technology will support everything from parking in your driveway to object avoidance (that's good), on-demand lane changes and left- and right-hand turns." https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/gm-ultra-cruise-tesla-full-self-driving-beta-rival/ Today, General Motors announced the Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center, an all-new facility that will significantly expand the company's battery technology operations and accelerate development and commercialization of longer range, more affordable electric vehicle batteries. The Wallace Center will be located on the campus of GM's Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. The battery engineering team based at the Wallace Center will experiment with many types of future battery chemistry in addition to lithium-metal, including pure silicon and solid-state, along with different cell form factors. The Wallace Center is expected to build batteries ranging in energy density from 600 to 1200 watt-hours per liter, along with crucial battery cell ingredients like cell active materials. The Wallace Center will be capable of building large-format, prototype lithium-metal battery cells for vehicle usage beyond the small-scale lithium-metal cells typically used in handheld devices or research applications. These cells could be as large as 1,000 mm, nearly twice the size of the initial Ultium pouch cells and will be based on GM's proprietary formula. GMC HUMMER EV IS BUILT TO WOW "The giant, 200.0-kWh battery is a stressed member of the chassis, which is a sort of hybrid between body-on-frame and unibody; there is a frame and a body, but they aren't isolated in the usual body-on-frame manner. Half-shafts are massive ball-spline units, necessary when an independent suspension with more than nine inches of travel is paired with three motors with the combined twist of 1200 pound-feet of torque. With two motors acting on the rear axle, no differential is necessary, but programming can virtually lock the axle so the motors turn each side at the same speed. Up front there is a locking diff for the third motor." writes Car And Driver: "Our on-road drive was limited, but we found a truck that went down the road with the purpose and confidence born of its mass and power. Not many corrections are required to keep it in a highway lane, and not a lot of feedback comes through the steering wheel when you have to turn. But we weren't expecting much in terms of communication from the 305/70R-18 mud-terrain Goodyears. The ride, however, is downright sublime. Adaptive dampers and air springs bridle the mass with authoritative control." Delivery this year. 350 miles for $112,000. That includes about 1,700 sold in the U.S." reports InsideEVs: "About every fourth Volvo sold year-to-date was a plug-in (over 132,000 YTD). The lineup consists of several plug-in hybrids and one all-electric model - Volvo XC40 Recharge, which soon will be joined by the Volvo C40 Recharge. By 2025, Volvo intends to increase the share of BEVs in its global sales volume to 50%, and 100% by 2030." Full battery electrics outperformed, alone taking 15.2% share and a record 32,721 unit volume. Old-school diesel sales fell off a cliff, dropping to under 5% market share in an overall auto market down ~45% in volume from seasonal norms at just over 215,000 units. With an end of quarter push, the Tesla Model 3 was the UK's overall best seller in September." reports Cleantechnica: "Old school combustion powertrains (those without any regen/electric-assist) fell below 50% of the market (48.75%) for the first time since the steam age. Unassisted diesels fell to their lowest point in the modern era, at just 4.95% share, from 14.33% year-on-year, with volume at a pitiful 10,658 units. Tesla Model 3, boosted by Tesla's usual end-of-quarter peak, was the UK's overall best selling vehicle in September, with 6879 registrations." https://cleantechnica.com/2021/10/05/uk-plugin-ev-share-above-20-in-september-tesla-model-3-overall-bestseller/ NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Returned on Sunday 10th October! Auto - Rund ums Auto.

Over the past week we've had an assortment of travel and gigs but we're back in the saddle with fresh material. Now that the embargo has lifted, Robbie can finally share his thoughts on driving the VW ID Buzz, while Nicole had the new Kia Sportage. Before heading out to San Francisco, Sam had the Volvo C40 Recharge and while in the Bay area he drove a Chevrolet Bolt EV.In the news, we've seen a bunch of new upcoming products in the leadup to the return of the much diminished Detroit Auto Show. The week before the show, Jeep started to reveal its 2024 EVs including the all-new Recon and Wagoneer S. Chevrolet also took the wraps off the Equinox EV. The big only big reveal at the show itself was the reworked 2024 Ford Mustang that's coming next summer. The king of designing devices with fewer buttons, Jonny Ive said that cars should have more buttons and less touch. Ram is ending production of the diesel version of the 1500 pickup so order yours now.
