Shannon Jackson, The Peoples Nurse, and her Special Guest, Nakesha Lee, discussed tips on preventing your resume from being Ghosted. Steps to avoid being Resume Ghosted (From the Recruiter/Hiring Manager)Increase your social media presence by including a professional profile picture for your LinkedIn Profile. First impressions are still very much vital in the job-search world. Improving your LinkedIn profile will help in this area.Avoid being Vague on your resume or profile- Use strong action verbs and concise sentence structure when explaining essential aspects of your job.For example: Instead of saying, "Trained new employees," You should say, "Trained 50+ employees on new fraud control objectives to mitigate risk concerns. Instead of saying, "Manage employees," you should say, "Oversee management operations for 500 employees and 11 managers."Showcase skills at the top of your resume- Showcasing your skills at the top makes it easier for the recruiter to find what they need during the recruitment process. Always use good grammar/spell correctly- AVOID mistakes, especially regarding your resume. Any grammatical error can cause the resume to be placed in the rejection pile. It also shows that you pay close attention to detail.Bullet points. Cramming a bunch of wording onto your resume can sometimes hurt you.Do Not Embellish details from your experience- Exaggerating facts in your job performance can hurt you. If you have yet to experience it, do not place it on your resume. https://qrco.de/bc3EpT

September is National Pain Awareness Month. Every year. Pain professionals and activists from around the country get together to raise awareness about problems connected to chronic pain during this month. Chronic pain directly impacts millions of people in the United States. Arthritis is the nation's top cause of disability. This age-old disease affects our society in so many ways. But today, we have the resources, information, and support to help patients and caregivers succeed in their journey, despite the many obstacles they may face. Shannon Jackson, The Peoples, will be joined by  Nick Turkas, MSSenior Director, Patient Education, and Community Connections, to discuss this important topic and how The Arthritis Foundation is the most trusted source for tips and resources to help fight arthritis pain and improve quality of life. What is Arthritis ?Arthritis isn't a single disease; the term refers to joint pain or joint disease, and there are more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions. People of all ages, races and sexes live with arthritis, and it is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. It's most common among women, and although it's not a disease of aging, some types of arthritis occur in older people more than younger people.Common arthritis symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness and diminished range of motion in joints. Symptoms vary from mild to severe and may come and go. Some may stay about the same for years, but symptoms can also progress and get worse over time. Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, difficulty performing daily activities and make walking and climbing stairs painful and grueling.Arthritis can also cause permanent joint changes. These may be visible, such as knobby finger joints, but often the damage can be seen only on X-rays. Some types of arthritis affect the heart, eyes, lungs, kidneys and skin as well as the joints. How is it diagnosed ?Information about symptoms, health and lifestyle habits will help determine the type of arthritis you have. TreatmentArthritis treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and improving joint function. You may need to try several different treatments such as medication and therapy , or combinations of treatments, before you determine what works best for you.

Living Your Life Without Limits

Tune into Living Your Life Without Limits Podcast and listen to Shannon Jackson, The Peoples Nurse interview with Dr. Danielle Ompad, epidemiologist and Vice Chair of NYU School of Global Public Health, discuss Monkey Pox.What is Monkeypox?Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox. Monkeypox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder, and monkeypox is rarely fatal. Monkeypox is not related to chickenpox.Monkeypox was discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research. Despite being named “monkeypox,” the source of the disease remains unknown. However, African rodents and non-human primates (like monkeys) might harbor the virus and infect people.People with monkeypox get a rash that may be located on or near the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) and could be on other areas like the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth. The rash will go through several stages, including scabs, before healing. The rash can initially look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy.Other symptoms of monkeypox can include:FeverChillsSwollen lymph nodesExhaustionMuscle aches and backacheHeadacheRespiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)You may experience all or only a few symptomsSometimes, people have flu-like symptoms before the rash. Some people get a rash first, followed by other symptoms.Others only experience a rash. How long do monkeypox symptoms last?Monkeypox symptoms usually start within 3 weeks of exposure to the virus. If someone has flu-like symptoms, they will usually develop a rash 1-4 days later.Monkeypox can be spread from the time symptoms start until the rash has healed, all scabs have fallen off, and a fresh layer of skin has formed. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks.TreatmentThere are no treatments specifically for monkeypox virus infections. However, monkeypox and smallpox viruses are genetically similar, which means that antiviral drugs and vaccines developed to protect against smallpox may be used to prevent and treat monkeypox virus infections.Antivirals, such as tecovirimat (TPOXX), may be recommended for people who are more likely to get severely ill, like patients with weakened immune systems. If you have symptoms of monkeypox, you should talk to your healthcare provider, even if you don't think you had contact with someone who has monkeypox. Most people with monkeypox recover fully within 2 to 4 weeks without the need for medical treatment.Hashtags# Monkey pox, #Virus, Infection control, the people's nurse, LYLWL

What is engineering operations and how do you get started? Why should every young professional know what "glue work" is? Meet Shannon Jackson, an Engineering Manager of Engineering Operations at Chime and a former Ruby software developer. In her role, she creates and crafts everything operational that makes a healthy, happy, and lasting engineering organization. While Eng Ops is found at several organizations, it's a new role in the tech industry. In this episode, we discuss what Engineering Operations is, why it's necessary, and how it can improve the lives of developers day-to-day. We also talk about glue work, in which early/mid career folks are tasked with essential work that is never actually assigned to anyone. These two topics are related and important for young professionals to know about. “It's important that we learn to work together or learn not to work against one another.” This episode is sponsored in part by CARE, Doobert, and Maddie's Fund. In this episode, “Trap King” Sterling Davis returns to the show to share some of the projects he has been working on since the pandemic. Sterling, a former rapper turned trapper and TNR advocate was previously on the show on CCP Episode 243 and Episode 360. One of the new projects that he and Stacy discuss is his new podcast, Same Team Podcast, that he co-hosts with Shannon Jackson (mom to internet superstar cat, Smush), which focuses on “fixing the fixers”. During the pandemic, Sterling expanded his focus to healing the fractured relationships among some of the rescuers and rescue organizations. One of the podcast's segments, titled “Smush the Beef”, has these rescuers and/or rescue organizations coming together to settle their differences and try to find positive solutions. Sterling discusses some of his past projects, including Tabby Dates and Pawject Runaway, as well as some of his upcoming plans for the year, including a potential TV show and continuing to tour the country advocating TNR. He and Stacy also have an in-depth conversation about TNR, including a discussion about different traps, techniques, and baits. Sterling also shares his approach to trapping colonies and emphasizes that even if you're trapping just one cat, you're still helping. His primary goal with TNR is to elevate the wellness of the cats in the community and to be able to provide resources to help those cats. To learn more about Sterling and the work he does, visit his website, Instagram, or Facebook. June 2022 was National Aphasia Awareness month This week's episode, Shannon Jackson, The Peoples Nurse   interviewed  Doreen Mendez-Sierra VP of Community Outreach & Education for the National Aphasia Association regarding her personal journey with Aphasia and how  National Aphasia Association is helping educate the public about Aphasia. What is Aphasia It is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in Aphasia may also arise from head trauma, brain tumors, or infections.Aphasia can be so severe as to make communication with the patient almost impossible, or it can be very mild. It may affect mainly a single aspect of language use, such as the ability to retrieve the names of objects, or the ability to put words together into sentences, or the ability to read. More commonly, however, multiple aspects of communication are impaired, while some channels remain accessible for a limited exchange of information. For more information on Aphasia, please visit the https://www.aphasia.org/aphasia

Over half of adults have been infected with CMV by age 40. Once CMV is in a person's body, it stays there for life and can reactivate. A person can also be re-infected with a different strain (variety) of the virus. Most people with CMV infection have no symptoms and aren't aware that they have been infected.Babies born with CMV can have brain, liver, spleen, lung, and growth problems. The most common long-term health problem in babies born with congenital CMV infection is hearing loss, which may be detected soon after birth or later in childhood.

In this episode I had a wonderful time chatting with Shannon Jackson who is mom to the one and only Smush! It was such a fun interview and Shannon was so warm and friendly that the time passed so quickly and we both had fun. I also got to "meet" Smush on camera so that was also a highlight!Shannon told me about her early days and how she became a photographer. Some of her work can be found on shannon jax productions, photography by Shannon Jackson Shannon shared much about little Smush including her bad start in life when she was found very sick and needed round the clock care to when she was lucky enough to adopt her and bring her home. Smush has such a great personality and is quite feisty too. Shannon explains how there are sometimes 2 versions of Smush, the internet one where everyone things she is so sweet and adorable (which by the way she is) but also her attitude and wild spirit which she expresses freely with Shannon. Smush is Shannon's soul cat and you can see it when she talks about her and her face is positively beaming like the proud mom she is!Shannon shared news of her upcoming projects where she will use her amazing photography skills to help shelters find homes for the animals and raise awareness. She also will soon go to Vietnam where she will help in an ongoing programme which helps raise awareness of the cat and dog meat trade industry in the Far East. Working with Animal Charity - Animal Welfare Organisation - FOUR PAWS UK (four-paws.org.uk) #FIGHTFORCATS is a work in progress to try and end this awful trade indefinitely. With around 30 million animals killed every year in Asia with many stolen or trafficked - many of whom are pets! this has to stop so Shannon is using Smush as a platform to reach more people and try and make a difference. Shannon also started her own podcast recently with Sterling Trapking Davis called Same Team and they are enjoying "smushing the beef" about serious issues within the rescue field! Please find them on Spotify and give them a listen too : https://open.spotify.com/show/6lf0thqBGIBo7tam3O3KLS?si=6d5693e766c24fd0 Smush also has her own book called Smush for President and Shannon told me all about how the concept came up and a little of the story, which included Smush's love of bread!! You can find the book on Amazon! This is just a heart-warming episode which felt like 2 friends catching up on old times. The SLC Performance Lab is produced by ContemporaryPerformance.com and the Sarah Lawrence College MFA Theatre Program. During the course, visiting artists to the MFA Theatre Program's Grad Lab are interviewed after leading a workshop with the students. Grad Lab is one of the core components of the program where graduate students work with guest artists and develop group-generated performance experiments. Miguel was interviewed by Andrew Del Vecchio (SLC22) and Jillian Jetton (SLC23). Miguel Gutierrez is a choreographer, composer, performer, singer, writer, educator and arts advocate who has lived in New York for over twenty years. He is fascinated by the time-based nature of performance and how it creates an ideal frame for phenomenological questions around presence and meaning-making. His work proposes an immersive state, for performer and audience alike, where attention itself becomes an elastic material. He believes in an approach to art making that is fierce, fragile, empathetic, political, and irreverent. In recent years he has been occupied with thinking about how he negotiates his queer Latinx identity within the traditions of the white avant-garde. This led to This Bridge Called My Ass, a piece that bends tropes of Latinidad to identify new relationships to content and form. The piece premiered in 2019 at The Chocolate Factory as part of American Realness Festival and tours throughout 2019 and 2020 to a host of venues. He has been presented in more than 60 cities around the world, in venues such as at Centre National de Danse, Centre Pompidou, Festival Universitario, ImPulsTanz, Fringe Arts, Walker Art Center, TBA/PICA, MCA Chicago, Live Arts Bard, American Realness, and the 2014 Whitney Biennial. He has received support from Creative Capital, MAP, National Dance Project, National Performance Network, and Jerome Foundation. He has received fellowships from New York Foundation for the Arts, the Tides Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, United States Artists, an award from Foundation for Contemporary Art, a 2016 Franky Award from Prelude Festival and four Bessies. He is a 2016 Doris Duke Artist. Other recent work includes Cela nous concerne tous (This concerns all of us), a commission for Ballet de Lorraine inspired by the May '68 French protests. With Ishmael Houston-Jones he co-directed Variations on Themes from Lost and Found: Scenes from a Life and other works by John Bernd, which received a 2017 Bessie for Outstanding Revival. He has been an artist in residence at MANCC, LMCC, Centre Choréographique National de Montpellier, Centre National du Danse Pantin, Baryshnikov Art Center, and Gibney. He has created music for several of his works, for Antonio Ramos' work, and with Colin Self for Jen Rosenblit and Simone Aughterlony. He performs with Nick Hallett as Nudity in Dance. He also currently performs a music project called SADONNA: sad versions of upbeat Madonna songs. His book WHEN YOU RISE UP is available from 53rd State Press. His essays have been published in A Life in Dance (ed. Rebecca Stenn and Fran Kirmser), In Terms of Performance: A Keywords Anthology (ed. Shannon Jackson and Paula Marincola) and his essay “Does Abstraction Belong To White People” is one of the most viewed essays on BOMB's website. https://www.miguelgutierrez.org/ photo by Marley Trigg Stewart

DJ KHALED, music industry megaproducer and recording artist was a part of your student group, he may take this young man out to lunch and  remind him as well as all of us in his book The Keys, and I quote: “We The Best means exactly what it says. I didn’t say I’m the best. That’s an important distinction; I said we. That means me, Fan Luv, my team, and everybody who’s got love and positive energy. Let me ask you this: If somebody came up to you and asked, “Are you, the beat writer, chef, producer, director? What would you say? If you don’t declare that you’re the best, I’m disappointed. You are supposed to say that you are the best because let me tell you, you are the best. You need to own it with confidence and conviction. Say it to yourself first a thousand times, and then say it to others a thousand more. For real, Is somebody better than you? Nah. We The Best. You have to speak your success into existence because absolutely no one else will do it for you. That’s why I started my first label, I called it We The Best. Were we the best yet? That’s up for debate. But did we have the drive and the passion and the necessary dedication to be the best? Without a doubt, Muhammad Ali, rest in peace, said, “I am the greatest, I said that before I knew I was.” DJ said, make your life about fulfilling your vision and dream big.” End Quote Three published authors in middle school are successfully overcoming the pressures of a youth culture challenged by bullying, drugs, alcohol, and suicide.  They share why and how they are succeeding. It's compassionate and fun. Your heart will smile.
