“How long will you take to see that what you're calling your setback or your curse, actually happened for your benefit.” - Sumit Gupta “Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it. My optimism, then, does not rest on the absence of evil, but on a glad belief in the preponderance of good and a willing effort always to cooperate with the good, that it may prevail.” - Helen Keller Progress comes from optimism and an open mind. It is sustained belief or faith in both an outcome and the ability to achieve it. It's only our minds that limit us. Some people have mastered this. They live their lives as shining examples of the power of this principle. Some of us have forgotten or we waiver into limiting beliefs to varying degrees in the face of challenges. This is normal. But all of us need to be constantly reminded of the power of our thoughts to either work for us or against us. Summit Gupta is a thought leader dedicated to elevating leadership in the world. He believes leaders are capable of surpassing their current goals and he teaches them how through a process of ‘deploying' themselves. “Snowmen fall to earth, unassembled.” Readiness is just a willingness to commit to a goal. The plans you've made don't necessarily make you ready. You're not always going to know exactly how you'll reach your goals or the sense of freedom that you're after because success is more of a mindset than an outcome. Once you can let go and you discover that you have faith in your gifts and your ability to serve, the world has a way of meeting you there and carrying you the rest of the way. Stone World recently caught up with Sumit Gupta of TAB India at Marmomac in Verona, Italy this fall. Listen to what Gupta had to say about the evolution of TAB India, since it was first established with his brother, Amit, in 1997.
In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Founder and Leadership Coach ofhttps://www.deployyourself.com/ ( Deploy Yourself School of Leadership), Sumit Gupta. Sumit helps business owners organize themselves to the next level of success by connecting what they want to achieve to how they get there. Sumit explains many leaders are stuck with small problems or hidden desires they might not see that is standing in the way of their growth. Business owners struggle to reach out for leadership help because they don't know when to ask for it. Sumit explains individuals with big visions or individuals that know they are stuck should talk to a coach or advisor to help get to the next step. Many business owners surround themselves with people who tell them what they want to hear and not what they need to hear. This can be a disadvantage as criticism or feedback is where growth and new ideas form. Sumit explains that reframing the criticism from negative to helpful can aid individuals in accepting this type of feedback. Sumit explains that individuals often make it too hard on themselves and simply stepping into the entrepreneurial space is winning for oneself. The achievements or failures are stepping stones on a larger journey that many people will never go on. Sumit explains that rumination is often done over things that cannot be changed and actually take an individual away from their responsibilities. While the worst case may happen, it is important to remember it is possible to come back from that and plan the next steps after it. Sumit explains his coaching consists mostly of long-term coaching that could be one leader or an entire leadership team. Key Points from the Episode: Sumit's work and impact in the world Where leaders struggle When leaders should seek out coaching How to overcome shielding oneself from feedback Fear manifesting into courage Perfectionism Rumination Engagement Sumit has with clients About Sumit Gupta: Sumit Gupta was born and grew up in New Delhi, India, and is now based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Over the years, he has lived in multiple cities in India. In addition, he has traveled, worked along, and photographed people from all over the world. One of his superpowers is to create safety and trust so that people do not have to wear a mask in front of him. He started as a techie in 2005 and fit the typical geek profile – good at computers but introverted when it came to working with people. In a way, he had learned to hide behind computers and not be visible. He has worked in companies like InfoEdge (Naukri.com) (2005-2008), Yahoo (2010-2011), 91Mobiles (2013), and Booking (2014-2020). In addition, he also incorporated two startups – SaleRaja (from 2007-2010) and CricketRadius (in 2012) and co-founded a non-profit Pick A Fight (2011-12). He started leading a team at 24 years of age. At that time, he had no idea what leadership was all about. To make it worse, he wasn't even aware that people management and other so-called soft skills could be learned. In 2012, he lost my mom to cancer. This event shook his world in ways he is still realizing. In a way, the old him died and a new Sumit was born that day – however, it took him a long time to realize that. In 2021, he reprioritized his life in the pursuit of Deploying Myself. Earlier, he thought the unpredictability of human beings was a bug and it used to piss him off badly. However, now he sees it as a feature. He is left in awe and wonder as he supports people in finding and shining their own unique light upon the world. People come to him feeling frustrated, low on energy, and stuck in achieving something that matters to them. They come confused and with their lights dim and leave with their lights shining many times brighter. They leave feeling empowered, confident, relaxed, and ready to produce expanded results and relationships – for...

We’ve all been there. We thought we knew what was best, only to find out later that what we thought we knew was wrong. Even the best manager can get lost in all the leadership advice, trying to do what’s right and still somehow failing. This is because sometimes that leadership advice is wrong. Today’s guest is Sumit Gupta. Sumit spent 20 years in software, started 2 for-profit and 1 non-profit organizations, and is a photographer. He combines his experiences as a techie, engineer, 3x entrepreneur, and leader in companies like Yahoo and Booking.com, and as a poet and photographer – to help leaders merge the science of doing business with the art of leadership. Sumit and I talk about the seven paradoxes of leadership. These paradoxes are concepts that shift the way we think about leadership and what it takes to be a great manager. They take the typical leadership advice and flip it on its head. In today's video we'll take a look at top 10 crypto startups and projects that began in India. Easyfi Network: Founded by Ankitt Gaur in 2020, EasyFi Network is building an infrastructure where developers can use EasyFi's network to build their own lending DApps (decentralised apps). Right now, EasyFi Network is offering what is called overcollaterised loans – this means that you can borrow one crypto by putting up another crypto as collateral. Mudrex: Founded by Alankar Saxena, Edul Patel, Prince Arora, Rohit Goyal and Snehil Buxy in April 2018, Mudrex is a no-code platform that would enable crypto traders to create their own crypto trading algorithm bots. Today, Mudrex has evolved into a complete crypto investment platform. Stader Labs: Founded by Amitej Gajjala, Dheeraj Borra and Sidhartha Doddipalli in 2021, Stader Labs is a crypto staking platform. The goal of Stader Labs is to simplify this process, by giving their users a convenient and safe way to maximise their staking returns without having to worry about the headaches and risks of manually delegating cryptocurrency to individual validators. Biconomy: Founded by Ahmed Al-Balaghi, Aniket Jindal and Sachin Tomar in 2019, Biconomy is making tools for developers to help them make their Web3 apps frictionless and as easy to use as possible. Take for example their flagship product Hyphen – this tool allows DApps to offer their users instant cross-chain transactions. Vauld: Vauld was founded by Darshan Bhatija and Sanju Sony Kurian in 2018, and it's basically a crypto neobank – they offer users a platform to store cryptocurrencies, take out loans, and trade. And one nice feature is that Vauld offers interest rates as high as 12.68% on cryptocurrencies that users store in their Vauld wallet, which is a lot higher than what traditional fiat currency banks offer as an incentive for you to use their savings accounts. Chingari: Chingari has actually been around since 2018 and was founded by Sumit Ghosh and Biswatma Nayak. In 2021, they began the transition from web2 to web3, with the announcement that they would be moving their entire platform onto the Solana blockchain network, and have since launched their own cryptocurrency, the GARI token. CoinDCX: Founded by two friends Neeraj Khandelwal and Sumit Gupta in 2018, CoinDCX is crypto trading platform and India's first crypto unicorn. By 2019, they had only managed to onboard 50,000 users, but then in 2020, the RBI's crypto ban was overturned by the Supreme Court. Many of their competitors by this point had given up, CoinDCX on the other hand was ready with a very impressive catalogue of products and services. Today, they're one of the leading crypto exchanges in India with more than 10 million users. Founded by Prateek Dwivedi, Pratik Gauri and Vilma Mattilda in 2021, 5ire is a sustainability-focused blockchain network. 5ire is charting a new course: their consensus mechanism is called sustainable proof of stake (SPoS), which features all of the same benefits of Proof of Stake but also uses the UN's Sustainable Development Goals so that companies and organisations using 5ire's blockchain will be rewarded for how sustainable they are. CoinSwitch: Founded by Ashish Singhal, Govind Soni and Vimal Sagar in 2018, CoinSwitch continued to build and grow its crypto trading platform, but on a more diluted global scale. That changed though in 2020 when the Supreme Court overturned the ban - now, Coinswitch was able to finally cater to the needs of Indian crypto traders specifically, and they're now one of the top crypto exchanges in the country. Polygon: Founded by Anurag Arjun, Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal and Mihalio Bjelic in 2017, Polygon is an Ethereum-based layer 2 blockchain network that is trying to solve the scalability, high network fees and speed issues of the Ethereum network.

In this episode, Phil is joined by Sumit Gupta who is a leadership coach and entrepreneur. About Sumit GuptaSumit, now a leadership coach, comes from 16 years of working in tech companies. He's now moved away from the technical side of things and slowly transitioned his passion for tech to management and leadership. Today he works with leaders from various tech and social organizations to overcome some of the biggest challenges they face in their individual leadership or with managing their teams."Learning is the foundation which helps your team to adapt to whatever is coming next. Learning is the foundational element of any team and of any kind of leadership" - SumitKey TakeawaysA one-on-one between a manager and employee is a foundational tool to ensure that there is space to learn and perform. Additionally, a one-on-one should be a place for a manager to listen to the people's concerns and work to provide solutions to their needs.A great one-on-one happens at regular intervals, once a week or every two weeks. The manager and employee are both present in a safe, private space to discuss not only status updates, but also to build the relationship. It should feel like a place where staff can disclose what's bothering them so they can work alongside their manager to develop the appropriate support they need to meet their objectives. When working with an employee who isn't meeting expectations, instead of using critical language like “underperforming,” consider reminding them of the expectations they signed up for, discussing where they're currently hitting the mark, and ask them what's missing for them to reach the level you need them to reach. And then work to offer a solution to help them hit their objectives. As leaders, if you see that your staff may be lacking certain soft skills, it's your responsibility to help develop them through coaching or mentoring. One of the best ways to prepare a new leader or manager is through on-the-job practice - not just learning in a classroom setting. And also having a dedicated coach who can listen to what's happening and offer that one-on-one support and feedback."Everything which is difficult, or where you are not hitting the mark is an invitation to practice" – SumitRatings can be useful in measuring performance metrics, but managers shouldn't identify their employees by these numbers. There has to be that human connection and relatability still."If you measure a fish by its ability to climb a tree, you will always be called a poor performer" – SumitListen to your people to understand what they're good at, bad at, and what they want to learn. This can allow you to see if certain employees would be better suited for different roles based on their strengths and interests. To build a stronger learning culture, managers should set aside dedicated time for learning, thus creating a rhythm of learning each week or month.Segmented time stamps:2:06 An introduction to Sumit Gupta3:00 How leaders can foster a learning culture in tech companies4:01 The opportunities and challenges tech companies face with learning at work5:16 How to use staff/manager one-on-ones for fostering a learning culture12:42 How to prepare leaders and managers in directing the one-on-one conversations15:00 The effects of using labels such as “underperformer” or numbered rating systems to evaluate employees.19:12 How to provide feedback to an employee without using a rating system or label21:53 The key to making sure employees have dedicated time for learning23:43 The importance of building trust with employees and structure around learning at workLinks from the podcastConnect with Sumit Gupta on LinkedInLearn more about Deploy YourselfRead "How to Have Career Development Conversations With Your Employees? I invite guests to share personal stories about acts of leadership that help shape their lives. In Episode 98, Sumit Gupta tells two powerful leadership stories that helped shape how he perceives leadership and leads. Sumit also advises us on how we can substantially impact our time by making a small change. Prologue Sumit is on a journey to elevate leadership in organizations, leverage the heroic spirit of business for good, and create a world where we can discuss any issue with love - as comrades rather than adversaries. Sumit is a leadership coach who has started three businesses, one being a nonprofit. His photography is eloquent in that it tells a story without the need for words. Sumit is gifted at helping others see their power because he spent much of his life hiding his own. He can see where you are powerful even when you cannot. 01:35 Part 1: Do You Think You Work with Superheroes? Sumit explains how a manager changed his attitude for how he interacted with his team. With a change in attitude, Sumit enabled direct reports to have new opportunities and a more positive experience. 06:10 Part 2: Discovering What It Means to Lead For someone uncomfortable about leading, Sumit made a decision that produced a powerful insight into what leadership means and how to lead effectively. 14:37 Part 3: You Are Ready for an Audit! Sumit advises us on how we can substantially impact our time by making a small change. _________________________________ How You Can Support the Show Unlabeled Leadership is a free service for people to learn about leadership. This week on the Money Movement we are getting hands-on with, well, moving money. Stablecoins and digital dollars are a breakthrough for how money can move around the world, enabling faster, more secure and less expensive payments and commerce, and connecting people on every continent in an open financial system. While lots of projects talk in the abstract about making money work more like how we share text, content or email messages, we are delivering that in the real-world today. USDC adoption has grown significantly around the world, and so this week we're going to literally take a trip around the world in 40 minutes, showcasing in the process the incredible power of digital currency, public blockchains, and the benefits of open and interoperable standards for digital money on the internet. In this episode, we'll be joined by Itamar Lesuisse, Founder and CEO of Argent, the new super sweet mobile digital wallet, based in London, by Ronald Chan, CEO of ProBit, a fast-growing Asian exchange with connectivity in Korea, Sebastian Serrano, Founder and CEO of Ripio, a leading wallet and exchange in Latin America, Joao Reginatto, Head of Product at Circle, based in Boston, and Sumit Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of CoinDCX, one of the top exchanges and wallets in India. And a bit of DeFi in the mix to boot. And we're going to be doing this live. For those who haven't experienced hands-on the power of digital currency, this episode is designed to blow your mind and see how rapidly the global financial system is poised to change, building on stablecoins and public chains. This hands-on and highly practical episode is a good build-up to next week's show, on June 25th, where Jeremy will be having an in-depth 1:1 fireside chat with Lawrence H. Summers, who is the Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritus at Harvard University. He served as the 71st Secretary of the Treasury for President Clinton and the Director of the National Economic Council for President Obama. Jeremy and Mr. Summers will be discussing global macro issues and the role of digital currency in the future of the global financial system. Huge swaths of the global population have mobile devices, but don't participate in the financial system. Stablecoins and the proliferation of digital currencies present an exciting new opportunity for people to connect to a more open and inclusive financial system, creating new economic opportunities for those who have been excluded from the banking sector.
