Erin Pheil is a business leader and a coach who built a nationally-ranked digital agency for 16 years. She is an entrepreneur and she knows your struggles well. It was her own pain and stress that led her to research and discover her approach, which drives her 95% success rate and consistent results. Today, Erin will show us how to identify and remove the negative mindsets that prevent you from growing your business and achieving your goals. Learn More Earn More Business Growth Podcast Host: Brian Webb Guests: Erin Pheil Episode 43: How To Identify & Remove The Negative Mindsets That Prevent You From Growing Your Business & Achieving Your Goals __________________________________ SUBSCRIBE Apple | Google Play | Spotify | Pandora | Amazon Music | iHeartRadio | Stitcher ________________________________ RESOURCES & HELPFUL LINKS Whatbox Digital The MidFix Group ________________________________ TRANSCRIPT Brian Webb: Hey, Erin, welcome to the show. You're a busy business leader, a coach, an entrepreneur. You've taken time out of your busy schedule to be here today. So welcome to the show. Erin Pheil: Thank you for having me. It's great to be here. Brian Webb: Yeah, it's a pleasure to have you here. So I want you to let the audience know what it is that you and your company do to have a positive impact in people's lives. Share that with the audience today, if you don't mind. Erin Pheil: Sure. So I am the founder of The MindFix Group and we specialize in providing rapid root problem removal for your mind. So leaders and entrepreneurs and high performers hire us when they want to get out of their own way. And we help them by rapidly and permanently first identifying and then eliminating their biggest mental roadblocks and barriers and the things that are holding them back. So that could look like anything ranging from perfectionism to procrastination, fear of success, fear of failure, fear of being seen, anger issues, difficulty saying no, imposter syndrome, things like that. Because most leaders get stuck or find themselves in their own way at some points along their journey. Bottom line is our work allows leaders and high performers to eliminate their stickiest blind spots and their fears, and their insecurities, self-doubt, and anxieties that are holding them back. Usually in just a couple of hours a week for a short period of time. Brian Webb: Wow. That's interesting. One of the things that you taught me is that the quote-unquote, personal development space is a 14 billion dollar a year revenue industry. I had no idea it was that much. And I know that people, I've seen people and I've even done it, they can spend thousands or tens of thousands of dollars on programs to help them improve their lives. And yet these programs don't seem to always create lasting change for most people. Why do you think that is? Erin Pheil: Yeah. From my experience, what I have seen is that a lot of the programs that are out there focus on addition. And when I say addiction, I mean that they focus on trying to help people cope with their challenges. So people have these issues say, avoidance or procrastination and they'll try to go to coaching or they'll do personal development, or they'll go to a seminar. And what they learn are tools of how to deal with their challenges. You need to meditate longer, you need to write more in your journal, you need to cope with this challenge. We're going to give you some balm and we're going to give you more bandaids to try and make you feel better and cope with the issue. When at the end of the day that doesn't solve the root problem of why the issue is there in the first place. Erin Pheil: So our approach and the way that we have seen so many people truly be able to heal from their challenges is when you can dive in and identify why someone is stuck and why they're experiencing challenges and problems. And then you subtract. So instead of adding more and adding more responsibilities, and adding tools, and adding tactics, and adding techniques to cope with your challenges, if we can subtract the root cause of why you're experiencing it, then the challenge can go away and it can go away rapidly. And you're not left with the frustrating challenge of trying to continue maintaining or coping with it for the long term. Brian Webb: And when you say subtract, I'm curious, do you mean helping them to overcome head trash? Or is it a matter of removing a relationship out of their life or getting rid of a habit? What do you mean when you say subtract? Erin Pheil: That's a really good question. So when I say subtract, I mean, we want to go in and identify the root cause of why someone is experiencing what they're experiencing. Brian Webb: Okay. Erin Pheil: And then pull that out. So instead of addition, instead of more tools, and tactics, and strategies that help people cope with their challenges, we want to subtract. It's almost like instead of putting more bandaids and balm over the splinter, let's go in, find the splinter that's causing the pain and pull it out. So when it comes to mental challenges or mind challenges, sometimes people call this head trash. We might call it belief systems or belief structures, competing commitments, internal conflicts. There are a lot of things that can be the root causes of people's mind challenges. Brian Webb: When you talk about conflicting conclusions, is that akin to conflicting wishes? I was once taught that I read Jean Chatzky's book called The Difference. She's a financial analyst on TV. And she talks about why do people not achieve their financial goals or their health goals? And she brought up the fact that it's because all of us, we have conflicting wishes. So yes, someone thinks of themselves. Yes. I want to save for my future, but I also want to enjoy my life today and go buy myself something nice. Does that play a part in the therapy that you're providing to people? Erin Pheil: Yeah. Sometimes when we can uncover what we call competing commitments, we'll find that different parts of our mind want different things and we're often not aware of it. So as an example, there was an entrepreneur I worked with just this week and he was feeling very stuck and he was finding that he wasn't doing what he needed to do to move his business forward. And he could not for the life of him, figure out why. He kept going to kind of, seminars and business-building workshops and working with a mentor. But he just could not bring himself to move forward and take action. And he didn't know why. And so what he found was that we found quite a few kind of competing commitments. And what was really interesting is we found that he kept beating himself up. And at the end of the day, his true goals, he wanted to accept himself and love himself and he wasn't. Brian Webb: Wow. Erin Pheil: And as we got into a conversation, what we uncovered is that part of him had a fear that if he loved himself, if he accepted himself, if he said he was okay with himself, that would completely prevent him from moving forward. Part of him was absolutely convinced that if he was okay with himself, he would have no more desire to change or improve or grow. So here he is wanting to accept himself and another part going, you can never accept yourself because then you won't move forward. And it was keeping him in a double bind because he wasn't moving forward because he was beating himself up. Brian Webb: That's fascinating. Oh my goodness. Erin Pheil: Right. Brian Webb: Wow. Erin Pheil: And he had no idea of this conflict until we were able to kind of go in and gently explore this. Well, of course, he couldn't move forward. Of course, he was absolutely frozen because this part of him, this hidden part underneath absolutely was terrified that if he was okay with himself, he would lose everything and he would just never move forward. And so when you can uncover these double binds, these mental knots, these competing desires and commitments that we have, suddenly bringing that awareness to your mind allows us to get unstuck versus here's another tool or let's map out your schedule for the week when these really deeper elements are kind of sitting below the surface powering you and keeping you stuck. Brian Webb: Do you find that, let's just take this particular client or these philosophies, these conflicting kind of philosophies. Were they self-imposed or was it a learned philosophy from his upbringing? Erin Pheil: Oh, I mean, everything is learned, right? Brian Webb: Yeah. Okay. Erin Pheil: We pick these things up from somewhere in our life, whether we see things modeled by people that we respect. We learn things in business classes, and courses, and books, or school that we feel are true. Or we subconsciously absorb them when we're little kids. Brian Webb: Yeah. Erin Pheil: We pick these things up from somewhere. Oftentimes they do come from childhood, but then those things can clash with what we learn later on in our adult lives. Brian Webb: I would imagine that there's different ways that people can find themselves feeling stuck, whether it be their career, or their income, their relationships. What are a couple of those? And what advice do you typically find in yourself giving to your clients? I'm curious. Erin Pheil: Okay. Let's break this down into two different questions to make sure I can give you solid answers here. So the first question is where are different areas in life that people find themselves feeling stuck? Is that correct? Brian Webb: Well more so. I think what I'm asking is not where do they find themselves in life feeling stuck, but what are some of the common reasons that people get stuck? Erin Pheil: Oh, why do people get stuck? Gotcha. Gotcha. So what we find so often, assuming that again, assuming there's not something going on in the body or the nervous system and people are feeling like they can't move forward, we often find that people are experiencing counterproductive thoughts, counterproductive emotions, and counterproductive actions or lack of actions because of what they believe to be true. So often our beliefs are running the show. They're like these lines of code and programming that are determining how we show up every day. I always laugh and give an example of like, if you believe that cats are dangerous and you go out for a walk and you see a cat, that's going to impact the thoughts that you have when you see the cat, that's going to impact how you feel when you see the cat, that's going to impact the actions you take when you see the cat. All of those things, your entire experience around a cat can be influenced by a belief. Brian Webb: Yeah. Erin Pheil: And we have so many beliefs, conflicting beliefs, and beliefs that we picked up when we were younger and they truly do... We walk around going, no, I have full control over everything. And our conscious mind does, but our subconscious mind where these beliefs and the programming exist really are running 90% of our decisions and our choice and our actions as we go throughout our day. So you can imagine what say a leader or an entrepreneur might experience if they have a simple belief like asking for help makes me look weak and they're committed to looking like a strong leader for their team. Brian Webb: Right. Erin Pheil: How that's going to impact what the they do and don't do over the course of a month, regardless of the advice they get or how great their team is. So these unique lines of code that we each have that are all slightly different, are running the show. So to circle back to your question, what are some of the reasons people get stuck? So often times we find that their beliefs, which are sometimes hidden from their awareness, are running the show in that they have problematic or limiting beliefs that are keeping them stuck in loops and ways of being that aren't serving them. Brian Webb: I've had the good fortune to have many mentors in my life, many of which, by the way, never have known that I'm alive. They're people I've not even met. One of those in a huge way, his name was Jim Ron, and many people in the audience may have heard of him. He's actually passed away, broke my heart when it happened. But he said, more than once he says the duck has to fly south every winter because it's in the genetic code and the duck cannot disobey his genetic code. Right. He said, but we as human beings, we can change our minds today and move in a completely different direction tomorrow. And I feel like it's a little bit what you're saying to us today. How realistic is it for someone to experience a permanent lasting change in behavior in just a few months, especially if they've been with a therapist for a decade and they have been to all of Tony Robbins's events? Speak into that, if you don't mind. Erin Pheil: Sure. We see it. We see it a lot. Before I got into this work, I never would've believed it myself. I started therapy when I was a little kid. Brian Webb: Wow. Erin Pheil: I used to come home crying from school as a seven-year-old and just be inconsolable. And my parents started sending me to therapy just as a young kid. So I have done that route, therapy, and coaching off and on for so many years. It always felt frustrating because I would talk with someone, but nothing ever felt like it really changed or really shifted. It just felt like I was going to vent to someone. And that was my experience. I know there's a lot of really great therapists and coaches and experts out there, but I know that for many of us change feels like it's out of our reach. And yet when I started getting into this type of work, into the work of transformation and rapid transformation, which even three months compared to 20 years is quite quick. Brian Webb: Sure. Erin Pheil: We see people change. We see people in a matter of months come in with challenges, and fears, and ways of being, and harsh inner critics, and inability to move forward and perform. And after, within a few months time, three months, sometimes four or five, but it was in a matter of a couple of hours a week, we watch people shift. And we've gone back to our original clients from years ago, and asked them, Hey, how is the problem, the challenges that originally worked on, are they still gone? And the answers are, it's an overwhelming yes. Erin Pheil: When you pull out the challenges that you're dealing with and you pull out the root causes, right, you pull the seed of the weed instead of chopping down the flower every time, you really can have something go away and stop holding you back for the long term. Now, this doesn't mean you won't have a bad day, or you'll never have a negative thought, but these challenges no longer hold you back. And we see it day in and day out, and you can look at our results page and see just the hundreds of people who have had that very experience. It is absolutely possible. Brian Webb: Wow. Let me ask you this. Would you mind, would you be comfortable sharing an example of someone who you've worked with, who they thought nothing would work for them. Right. But they've experienced the transformation you've been talking about today. Do you mind sharing an anonymous example of course? Erin Pheil: Sure. Absolutely. We worked with an entrepreneur who was building a number of different online communities, and each of her communities had thousands and thousands of members. She was working with a mentor who was giving her guidance on how she was to scale her business. She was told that she needed to begin promoting herself, being on podcasts, being on interviews, and doing more PR work. And she was also told, Hey, it's time you start letting go of some of your work because you're doing work that you really should have more of an assistant and a team doing for you. You're too busy for what you're doing. So this woman needed to delegate more. And then also start being seen as the leader of her company. Brian Webb: Okay. Erin Pheil: And I think about four or five, six months passed, and she realized that she hadn't done any of it. She kept procrastinating. She kept avoiding. She was getting opportunities to speak and somehow kept turning them down. Something would always come up. Brian Webb: Okay. Erin Pheil: And she wasn't building her team. So what ended up happening is we worked with her for a couple of months and she picked up the phone one day and called me and she's like, Erin, you'll never guess what. I said, what? She's like, I am a delegating machine now. I've brought a couple of people onto my team. I'm no longer terrified. I can let go of some of this control, Brian Webb: Wow. Erin Pheil: And it feels amazing. And also I've started saying yes to all of these PR and media opportunities. I've been in the Washington Post. I've been in the, she was in Entrepreneur Magazine. She was in the Huffington Post. She was in a number of different, really big media outlets for the work that she was doing with Facebook. And it was absolutely beautiful. She said it's been easy. It's been fun. I'm going live on Facebook and social media multiple times a day. Brian Webb: Wow. Erin Pheil: The fear of being seen is just gone. And it was like I was talking to a different person and she was just so vibrant. So someone who had been putting this off and weeks, and weeks, and weeks, and weeks, and weeks with no movement suddenly came around and was like, this is enjoyable and I'm loving it and the fear's gone and I'm just taking off. And thank you so much. So that was a fun example. Brian Webb: One, thanks for being here. I feel like this has been a therapy session for me today too. I feel like I should be lying on a sofa somewhere. And I always feel like I get to learn and glean from every guest I have on. And you have been no exception. So one, thank you for the impact that you're having in the world. Because clearly, you're just helping so many people. And tell the audience that wants to learn how to find you, where's the best place to connect with you, learn more about your services that you provide. Where is the best place for them to do that? Erin Pheil: Sure. Best place is definitely our website, mindfixgroup.com. We have a free training. We have a long results page where you can see what's possible. We have case studies and if anyone wants to reach out, they're welcome to either apply or learn more just about what we do. I'm also available on Facebook, on social media. I post regularly about work with our clients what's possible, latest findings, and thoughts. And I'm the only, I believe Erin Pheil on Facebook at this time. Brian Webb: Ah, okay. Good to know. Oprah made Dr. Phil famous. I think that you should be the Dr. Pheil and we should start having a segment of the podcast so we can give the world therapy through the podcast. Right. See there. Well, thank you so much for being here, Erin. You've made a big difference today. I'm just so grateful that I got to spend time with you today. Erin Pheil: Awesome. Thank you for having me. ________________________________ FIND & FOLLOW WHATBOX DIGITAL Website | Linkedin | Facebook | Instagram ________________________________ CONNECT WITH BRIAN WEBB Linkedin | Facebook | Instagram Email: brianw@whatboxdigital.com Clubhouse: @brianwebb __________________________________ CONNECT WITH ERIN PHEIL Facebook | Website | Email __________________________________
Ever feel like you're stuck in a loop and you keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again? Ever feel like you weren't "good enough" inside? BJ Fogg, PhD, author of Tiny Habits and TinyHabits.com is on the show today! We have been immersed lately in understanding changes and our own habits, which have led to some self-sabotage at times. BJ talks about the concept of breaking the chain and how it can be detrimental to your progress. If your habit is too big, it can be hard to build up the momentum to continue. Plus, celebrating micro wins can be a huge motivator and they can come with every action that you do. BJ talked about his mission in spreading that ripple effect that will pass on to others, similar to how we love having fun while recording. He also gave us some real-life examples of creating tiny habits that stuck, such as how he was able to shed weight easily and how he starts his day in the right way to set his mind up for success. Today's guest on the Shane Sams Show is Erin Pheil of MindFixGroup.com! Erin specializes in helping entrepreneurs and leaders eliminate the mental roadblocks holding them back from what they are capable of. Erin has a background in psychology and digital media. After suffering an injury that caused her lingering pain and depression, she saw a therapist who helped her understand that her mindset was the issue. She then decided to help others because she felt alone and didn't have much help when going through her own struggles. This led her to start MindFix! In today's episode you'll learn: How Erin Pheil got over her mental roadblocks to live the life she wants! Want to grow a great business? Have a great marriage? We all do. And that's the "curse" of being someone who is an achiever. Because you want it, you often will feel like "I'm not doing enough." Once this sets in though, it can often prevent you from achieving everything you want. On today's episode, Erin and I dive into this. Her work at Mindfix is incredible. But it's all based on something I like to call "The Art of Subtraction." Most people add and add and add to their plate to the point where it all falls apart. They repeat this cycle over and over because our culture is built around a ravenous desire to acquire. But to be a true achiever, mastering the art of subtraction is key. And in this episode, you'll find out out how. Enjoy!
Our show today with Elliot Roe, creator of an app called Primed Mind, was packed full of goodness. We chatted all about how he came to create the app after he was able to get over his fear of flying and he walked us through these pre-methods, to prime your mind for various circumstances. For example, if you have an athletic event coming up or you will be speaking on stage, it primes your mind for all these activities. Elliot works with people who are in the top 5% but know there's something holding them back to reach that 1%. These include top athletes, poker players, and Wall Street businessmen, who use his hypnotherapy services to get past that subconscious wall to break through to the next level. We also talk about how to get over imposter syndrome, uncovering hidden memories, and dealing with feelings of guilt, especially when it relates to running your business. Once you have listened, be sure to tune in to our previous shows with Erin Pheil and Rinesh Ganatra for additional insights on how to rock your productivity and erase those roadblocks that keep holding you back. “If there's a big difference between what you would tell yourself and what you are doing, there's something going on emotionally because you know the answer but you are not able to follow that system.” - Elliot Roe Some Topics We Discussed Include: Digging into your past by using hypnotherapy to change your emotions Common problems regarding feeling stuck at earning at a certain level and how it usually relates to your father How Elliot got over his fear of flying The interesting world of working with high-end poker players and athletes Getting over imposter syndrome How procrastination is one of the most common things Elliot's client deal with and how to get around it Bullied as a kid? We also discuss our new schedules, our awesome new studio space, how we've been able to rid ourselves of several limiting beliefs and make the adjustment to hand off work which was hard to do at first, but has freed us up and in turn, made more money. Plus, we give our thoughts on a recent video we watched which dissects how to enjoy the journey as well as how to determine what's meaningful in your business so you can spend less time on the things you think are important or necessary, but are really holding you back. After you've listened, don't forget to check out the conversations we mentioned with Erin Pheil, Angelo Sisco, and Marx Acosta-Rubio on how to manage your life and workflow, for more balance and free time. “There is a lot of mental clarity and that allows us to almost naturally have more fun.” - Joe Fier “I go to my computer, Joe goes to his computer. In today’s episode, Krisstina chats with Erin Pheil. Erin breaks down what it is to have “junk value”. The definition of this is described as defining a big goal but not really knowing or understanding the ‘why’ behind it. “We do things and act because we want to feel a certain way. We want to feel safe, we want to feel at peace…but sometimes when people are disconnected from their feelings… [there you will] find ‘junk values’”. She gets even deeper into sharing how many entrepreneurs are actually driven by fear. Fear of not being enough. Fear of being poor. Fear of any kind!
Taking out the boulders in the stream that are getting in the way of being your best self is Erin's passion, Being bullied as a little girl, and going through unexplained debilitating pain and depression guided her to have her breakthrough moment. This is what drove Erin to help so many others get through their mental blocks, and in turn, better the pond!! Thank you Erin, for your compassion, empathy, and for every single ripple that you create in the pond!!!

For so many people what holds them back from success aren't the external circumstances. What gets in their way are the fundamental, deep-seated beliefs and patterns they've been clinging to that are hurting them. How did our guest today shift these beliefs rapidly, and then turn that into a system that helps other people? What is the biggest barrier to people believing in the rapid transformation? How does our lens of how we see the world affect the experiences we have?

Welcome back to Digital Detox Secrets S2 Ep 4: In this episode, I catch up with Erin Pheil to break down her system on how she helps highly successful entrepreneurs get out of their own way. It’s called Mindfix. Of course, we all want to be successful. We say it and strive for it, then we take an almost deliberate wrong turn. Self-sabotage? What does this look like? Sometimes this is subconsciously choosing social media instead of working or going to sleep. Erin is known for getting people unstuck and detach from a negative belief system you might not even know you are carrying each day. In this episode, I ask her to take a deeper dive into Chapter 16 of Digital Detox Secrets where I talk about The Six Second Mind Fix and learn a secret about yourself no one has ever told you before.
“When a belief is created, it literally becomes a pair of glasses over your eyes. As you move forward in life, all the different events that you experience get filtered through that lens.” Erin Pheil wanted to feel differently. She was desperate to let go of the constant judgements and the feeling of not being good enough, but she couldn’t. Erin turned to countless courses and therapies, but despite changing her habits, thoughts, and actions, nothing seemed to stick. Then finally, after a 3-year battle with pain and depression, Erin discovered the ‘magic’ formula and got out of her own way. Not only was this formula uncomplicated, but it generated long-lasting results quickly. As the founder of the MindFix Group, Erin shares her process with entrepreneurs and high-achievers to help them get unstuck. Her secret? Unravelling and rewiring the beliefs that lead to self-sabotage and disappointing results. Her MindFix mind-transformation program has a 96.1% success rate, and Erin’s work has featured in countless books, magazines, and newspapers. So if you’re ready to create a permanent shift in your life and be free of limiting beliefs that keep you in a box, tune in now. I promise, you’ll be raving about this incredible episode. “Every time you have a belief, you are locked inside of a box and you are limited in terms of the actions you can take, what you can feel and the thoughts that you have.” Our beliefs create certainty and prediction - and that makes us feel safe. But the beliefs directing your adult world weren’t chosen by you. Instead, they got cemented during childhood - and chances are they’re keeping you from your extraordinary life. But don’t worry, because now you’ve got Erin! In this episode, Erin explains how changing your beliefs changes your life. Here’s an overview of the topics we discuss. How are beliefs made? The most powerful question an adult can ask themselves when interacting with a child. Why basic self-care is essential as you navigate to a new set of beliefs. What roles do feelings play in our beliefs? Why reinterpreting past events can powerfully reshape your current beliefs. Why we resist or reject evidence that conflicts with our core beliefs [even if new evidence would serve us better]Why it’s safe to let go of beliefs - even the ones that have served you. How to unpick unhelpful beliefs. Why an internal locus of control makes it easier to experience change. The best time to start using affirmations. Brutal honesty and the three empowering questions to ask yourself each day. The three ‘Blocker beliefs’ you need to get rid of first. And more...“When you take away a belief, all you have is a choice.” How to contact Check out We thrive on your feedback, so if you’ve enjoyed this show, please rate us and leave us a review. These thoughts negatively impacted everything she did. Mental barriers completely held her back from ever deeply enjoying the rich life she dreamt of. Then out of nowhere, she was hit with chronic pain that completely sidelined her for 2.5 years. After spending thousands to figure out why she was suffering, she sat opposite a therapist one day who told her ‘you are in pain because your mental lens is dirty, and it’s skewing how you experience the world’. Erin needed to figure out how to change her mindset. She walked out the door and knew she needed to move forward. And today, her company MindFix is helping people relieve suffering with an astounding 96.1% success rate. With Erin’s introduction, she had shared with us the story of her fellow named Philip – an amazing salesperson but did not have the confidence in him, and was struggling to do the work for himself. Erin and her team worked with him a couple of months and discovered that in that kind of circumstance, they need to figure out where that person is getting stuck. They found a lot of the root causes and old programming and beliefs that he had been holding onto. What happened next was: within two months of graduating their program, he landed a project that was bigger than the entire sum of his revenue for the entire previous year. His mindset went from being, "The only thing I see is fear and doubt. I can't do this," to feeling unstoppable. Erin noted that Philip still has the same skills, knowledge, and personality. Nothing about him has changed, but that sense inside is completely different. That sense changed his thoughts, emotions and actions as he goes about each workday. But we also discussed that not everything can fall into place. Erin noticed a pattern in her prospective clients: they don’t want to believe, at first. She found out that no matter how the conversation goes or how much information she shared with them, none of that matters if the person has that belief that “This can't work for me," or "This is too good to be true." With this scenario, Erin said that she remembered listening to Dan Kennedy talking about infomercials. He said that they’ve got the best copywriters, television producers, and editors. They've got the best of everything. But out of every 10 infomercials that they pilot, 80% of them fail miserably, and only 20% of them see the light of day. There's always a possibility that something's not going to work. When you form a belief and an expectation, it acts like a pair of glasses over your eyes. And the reticular activation system of your brain goes around looking for pieces of evidence or events that it can point to as evidence that it’s true. Same goes with how some people contradict and do not trust someone who wants to help them. We also talked about opportunities for improving the mindset that people are not aware of. Erin noted that our behaviors, habits, and actions are based off what we think and how we feel. And so if we try to change our habits, but we don't change what we're thinking and how we're feeling, our behaviors are never going to last. So what can one do to address beliefs that potentially aren't serving them? Erin suggested that people should be clear first on what it is they actually want to work on and what would really move the needle for them. We're made up of hundreds of thousands of beliefs. We want to change and get rid of the ones that are holding us back, and that are costing us hundreds or thousands of dollars every month. Erin added that pattern can be something that's holding us back. It can be a counter-productive emotion. Everyone has that little part of ourselves that doubts. Erin discussed that you can replace those negative thoughts because your subconscious programs can be changed through massive amounts of repetition. Some people will meditate for ten years. Some people will work with hypnotherapists and they'll do lots of repetition. They'll listen to recordings for three or four months and try to reprogram some of the old beliefs and belief structures that are getting in their way. She said that repetition is the cheapest form because it's often free, but it's also the least efficient. Nevertheless, with massive repetition, change is possible. The discussion with Erin Pheil has taught us that mindset is very vital. Unless you get it right, the rest is compromised and you won't be firing off all cylinders. And as you know, we need all cylinders firing to be able to compete. How Leaders Sabotage the Sale Process Sales leaders sometimes make mistakes that compromise deals, so understanding how leaders sabotage the sale process can help us avoid the same mistake. Erin Pheil is the founder of Mind Fix Group, a company that specializes in helping entrepreneurs, high-achievers, and high-performers eliminate their biggest mental roadblocks that hold them back and keep them from achieving what they're capable of. Head trash Some sales leaders have very specific definitions of what a sales leader is. For Erin, anybody who is in charge of guiding the people in making the right decisions and who is doing sales for a company is considered a sales leader. Many sellers read books and work with experts to improve their skills in sales. They keep learning, and then they show up on calls. They often show up to these calls prepared, but also with head trash. They're showing bits and pieces of their old mental programming and outdated beliefs that aren't helpful in closing deals. They go to the calls and they try to combine new knowledge and strategies that their coaches have taught them with their old beliefs. When things go wrong, they don't blame themselves. They blame the technique and the process, or even the people they hired. They don't look at their head trash and suspect that they might be the ones sabotaging the process. Blaming the process, techniques, and tactics instead of examining how they're screwing things up sabotages the sales process. Accepting blame It takes courage to accept blame because it's human nature to blame somebody else. It takes courage to stop, pause, and hold a mirror to yourself and ask how you're contributing to the challenges that you're experiencing. It's much easier to project outward and place the blame. Head trash commonly appears as the need for approval or the need to be liked. Sellers will show up to a sales call and, instead of focusing on guiding the prospect towards the right decision, they operate from an underlying need to be liked. This goes beyond having a bond and rapport. It's more of wanting to be approved. A person with that need often sabotages calls just to be liked. They get nervous, they make concessions, and they apologize, which shifts the whole frame of conversation. Being liked becomes the more important outcome. Self-doubt Self-doubt can undermine your authenticity and sabotage your sales process because it causes you to question your own effectiveness. Trust your skills and abilities. #SalesSabotage Money block and old programming from a salesperson's childhood also have a negative impact on sales calls. For example, a client raised to believe that she isn't supposed to talk about money in the household where degree and certificates are the next big things had a huge block in her sales process. Since this particular client had no degree, she ended up questioning her ability and wouldn't bring up the pricing until the last minute, or until the prospect asked for the price. This client had old head trash on the concept of pricing and money so that often the price in her head was different from the price that came out of her mouth. Even with constant reminders here and there, she just couldn't do it. It just wouldn't come out of her mouth the right way. This is what head trash is. You show up with a plan and all the right information, but your old pieces of programming, beliefs, and thoughts sabotage and compromise your ability to make a productive call. Figure your patterns The first thing to do is to figure your patterns. Knowing your patterns brings awareness to your calls. You must pinpoint where in the process you're having your patterns of resistance and frustrations. Create a list of the areas where you keep repeating some patterns that you know do not serve you. It might be telling the same jokes, doing what you're not supposed to do, or not talking about the money even though you have to. The buyer might think that you're hiding something or you have some trick up your sleeves. Before you know it, you have already sabotaged your opportunity. The same is true if you keep talking to your client without giving him the time to speak. It scares the prospect off as well. Consider a salesperson who can't even have an intro opportunity because she can't stop talking. Her problem clearly exists at the beginning of the process. This is a perfect example of a pattern of people who can't stop talking. They don't listen because it has been ingrained in their minds that they should keep talking so that someone will buy from them. They feel the need to show off and prove their expertise in order to be respected. Changing patterns After listing the patterns that you observe, ask yourself, “What would I have to believe to be true in order to keep acting this way?” What we believe determines how we act. If you believe that talking about money is wrong, then you'll probably act in ways in accordance with that belief. A lot of these beliefs are in the back of our heads and most of us might not believe them to be true. But even if a tiny part of us holds true to that belief, then we'll act according to those beliefs. What you get from asking that question for each pattern is a list of old pieces of head trash, programming, and beliefs that you're still carrying around that are sabotaging your sales process. Set aside time to implement the two things mentioned here. First, identify the patterns and second, come up with a list of what you'd have to believe to be true. This will open your mind and make you see things that you didn't realize are impacting your close rate and your success as a sales leader. “How Leaders Sabotage the Sale Process” episode resource Learn more from Erin and visit her website mindfixgroup.com. Erin Pheil is a master of helping people permanently eliminate (yes, eliminate—not alleviate) self-sabotage. So many people are stuck in ruts, and feel increasingly frustrated when repeatedly gathering more information and taking more actions STILL don't get them what they want. For most people, changing habits is hard. They try, but revert back to old ways of behaving. Here's the secret to why behavior change , getting unstuck, and getting out of ruts is so hard: our time, our actions are actually determined by what we believe to be true-- NOT by the finite, limited will power and focus generated by our conscious minds. “Let’s find out what is causing the pain and get rid of it… if there are specific problems that are holding you back and costing you in terms of time, money, sanity. Let’s go in and pull them out so you can be this person without these... heavy weights.” - Erin This week on Experts Unleashed, we’re discussing all things mindset with Erin Pheil, founder of MindFix. MindFix helps entrepreneurs and high performers identify and eliminate the roadblocks that are holding them back from being able to achieve what they want to achieve and make the money that they want to make. How many books have you read, or affirmations have you stated, only to continue being stuck in the same behavior patterns you are trying to break? The problem is, you have all of the logical knowledge you need to find success. Your downfall is in the underlying mindsets that are limiting your ability to move forward. “So often we look at a pain and think about how to treat that problem. But, a lot of times there are lots of other solutions that are connected below the surface or connected through some other channel that can really help you solve the root cause.” - Joel MindFix was birthed from Erin’s own experience with overcoming limiting mindsets. The ignored and suppressed lack of purpose in her career manifested in years of chronic pain that drained her of her desire to live. This path led her towards her current work as a mindset coach. Sometimes the most painful events in our lives can actually be a stepping stone on our path towards fulfillment. She discovered the power of identifying the root causes of pain, patterns that limited her achievement, and getting out of her own way to find success and fulfillment. “If you’re stuck, and if you’re running into something, even if you’ve been dealing with it for years or decades, a harsh inner critic or self-doubt or anxiety or fear, the one thing I want to share is that it is possible to truly eliminate those things in a short period of time.” If you find yourself trapped in patterns of behaviors that stand in the way of success in your business, it might be time to investigate the beliefs that may be standing in your way. Erin Pheil holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Digital Media. She founded Followbright, an award-winning, nationally-ranked agency. Erin Pheil never had a groundbreaking moment hustling candy as a child or a desire to be her own boss that lead her to become an entrepreneur, but here she is. Upon entering the workforce, Erin had no luck landing a job, so she took her degree in digital media, and in 2002 she started her own agency. As Erin explains, “I realized nobody is hiring me. I can do so much better than all of them. I’m just gonna do this myself. It wasn’t this long drive that I always knew. I just decided I was going to do this.” From the Golden Age to the Black Period The agency took off, and business was growing each year. Despite this success, Erin constantly had this nagging thought that something was missing. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but she knew there was something more. Everything was turned upside down in 2015. The agency suffered a negative SEO attack, and Erin’s health began to deteriorate. None of the medical professionals Erin visited were able to figure out the problem. Erin came full circle and decided to fix things on her own like she did in 2002 when she started her digital agency. She started helping friends and colleagues on the side because it was fun. This fun side project lead her to the creation of MindFix, her new business. Using Entrepreneurship to Solve a Problem Erin conducted significant research and drew on a passion in psychology to begin to understand how to help herself. She was then able to take this process and use it to help others. Erin identified that sometimes people have the skill, ability and commitment to succeed, but they may be missing one piece that is holding them back. Through Mind Fix, Erin helps people identify and resolve the piece, or pieces, holding them back. It’s the limiting beliefs and blockages that stop you from creating the content that you know will help the people that read it and help your business. That’s why we’re very excited to have Erin Pheil on the podcast, as Erin has been instrumental in helping me to identify my strengths and weaknesses, which has allowed me to become the most productive version of myself. Episode Discussions: What to do about being overwhelmed Big tip on how to start the process of correction How to overcome challenges and keep making progress The importance of mindset Adam’s secret for best performing copy “Head Trash” A better optimal state Look at it and evaluate it Habits of high performers Unwrapping an interpretation The Four Agreements: Don’t take things personally “The Possibilities Game” [03:27] Erin’s Story Holds a BA in psychology and an MA in social media Co-founder of Mindfix Group, a rapid mind transformation program designed specifically for high achievers and entrepreneurs Mindfix provides relief and the permanent fix that people are always searching for but can’t always find in books and courses [05:04] Overwhelmed in marketing What should someone do if they don’t know where to start? Find out what the root problem is Overwhelm could be stemming from many different reasons [06:12] Example: Two Clients Both are overwhelmed, but the feeling comes from different problems No one can just give a step-by-step guide to help universally (which is why self-help books don’t always help [08:40] Insight to what’s happening Once you notice you’re falling into a pattern, PAUSE Ask yourself: “What are the thoughts that are showing up right now?” Pay attention to the, and write them down Read them out and recognize the pattern [10:52] Example: Perfectionist Client tried this and realized that she thought everything she did had to be perfect No one can ever do everything perfectly, so she froze [12:09] Mindset is unbelievably important If you can come into your marketing from a position of power and positivity, that’s where the sales are made It changes the way you write and the way you present yourself It also makes it easier to connect with people on an emotional level [13:15] Adam’s secret for his best performing ad copy Avoid being in a bad place mentally [14:03] “Head Trash” The more that’s in your head (especially thoughts of failure) the harder it is to become calm and confident Clear out the trash [15:19] What’s the next step after you’ve written down your thoughts? There’s no solid solution, but calling attention to it helps Sometimes just writing it down helps your mind to click and stop Working with someone one-on-one is a better way [17:04] Better optimal state “It decreases that charge—the emotion that’s coming from believing everything that’s on that piece of paper” Viewing through a third person lens helps you to put perspective on your thoughts Once you call attention to it and can separate yourself from it, your confidence goes up [17:51] Once your confidence goes up, your marketing and business results will go up [18:17] Look at it and evaluate it Look at what you’ve just written out Ask yourself if it’s true (try to be positive, usually it isn’t!) When the head trash gets cleared out, there’s nothing to write down anymore [19:25] What are some habits that you’ve seen among the high performers that they’ve instilled in their lives? One process works really well that they engage in regularly… Throughout the day we apply our own interpretations to the events that happen These interpretations fuse together in our minds and we see them as reality We can feel negatively about this “reality” High performers make it a habit to unwrap their interpretation from the event They see these events as neutral, and separate themselves from them Possibilities as to why an event happened become limitless when you don’t involve yourself [23:19] The Four Agreements Don’t take it personally – what people say to you is a reflection of what they’re going through, it’s not necessarily to do with you The paradigm shift of Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is another example [24:47] “The Possibilities Game” If you’re triggered by someone cutting you off while driving, the ONLY reason you’re feeling upset is because you’re interpreting it in a certain way Come up with four other possibilities for why the person would do that You can make up stories like “maybe they need to get to the hospital” By telling another story, it breaks up the rigidity of what that “reality” is [26:09] Jumping to conclusions in marketing Automatically thinking your content isn’t good enough because no one is watching it In reality, it’s a long game; it might just be the wrong time Negative comments on Facebook ads Don’t take it personally [28:42] When you see those comments (or none at all) be empathetic The more we can empathize with our target market, the better we’ll be at marketing By putting ourselves in their shoes we can create high converting campaigns and messages that resonate Mentioned in this episode: Mind Fix Group Erin Pheil (personal website) Facebook page The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruez The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R.
