From practical legal implement to inspiring logo, what we now know as the church seal has been around since April 8, 1874. It all started with a lion, a lamb, a child, a palm tree, three continents, and some laurel leaves. Since then it's had several iterations... all with deep significance in the lives of church members around the world. Grab a “cuppa” and settle in as Andrew shares the history of the church seal sprinkled with a very personal testimony of its role in his life and in the life of the church. Jun 17, 2022 #InternationalDayOfYoga #KriyaYoga #Yogananda “Yoga meditation is the process of cultivating and stabilizing the awareness of one's real nature,” Paramahansa Yogananda said. Experience a guided meditation in honor of the 8th UN International Day of Yoga, led by Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Tyagananda, who states in his short talk at the beginning of the meditation that yoga is about “cultivating, reawakening, reconnecting with who we truly are, what we truly are” through, in Yoganandaji's words, “definite spiritual and psychophysical methods and laws by which the narrow ego — the flawed hereditary human consciousness — is displaced by the consciousness of the soul.” To freely share those yoga methods of gaining awareness of the blissful consciousness of the soul is the reason that Paramahansa Yogananda brought the Kriya Yoga teachings to the West in 1920 and created his Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons. Michael Harrison For World Radio Day 2024 Summary Radio's history, impact, and future. Michael Harrison discusses World Radio Day, an official UN International Day, which is celebrated on February 13th to honor the iconic ship of radio and its century-long history of informing, educating, and entertaining. Michael Harrison was contacted by UNESCO, the arts arm of the UN, to advise on World Radio Day and has been involved in the celebrations for the last 6 months. Radio's role in informing, educating, and entertaining. Gene (Bean) and Michael discuss radio's informing, educating, and entertaining mission, highlighting radio's global reach and diverse dimensions. The argument is set that radio is an aesthetic that transcends platforms and devices, and that the radio industry needs to understand and protect this aesthetic. Michael believes that the loss of radio stations and networks will leave audio programs as mere items on public utilities, rather than part of a cohesive and defined cathedral of sound. Radio's role in modern culture. Michael Harrison, a longtime radio personality and programmer, believes that radio is still relevant and will continue to evolve. The argument is raised that culture is temporary and generational, and what people consider to be their favorite things are often linked to their upbringing and personal experiences. Radio industry's viability and World Radio Day celebration. Michael, a radio legend, believes radio is still a viable business in local markets despite the financial struggles of big media companies. Michael raps about World Radio Day, plugging his song/message over the radio waves, and encourages listeners to think on World Radio Day 2024. Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Aliza Hava. I was honored to have the incredibly talented singer songwriter, Aliza Hava (“aLEEza Hah-vuh”) on my show. We talk about music, trauma, healing, life, and the state of our world today. Most importantly, we talk about the role in which music can play in our lives to help heal past trauma and help us connect with each other and God. Ethereal. Enlightening. Medicine for the soul. Aliza Hava interlaces the elements; earth and sky, fire and water. Her transcendent voice is reminiscent of the mystical tone of Stevie Nicks, the raw soul of Janis Joplin, and the gritty wisdom of Brandi Carlile. With her award-winning infusion of folk, rock, pop, and soul, Aliza heals the tiny forgotten bits of ourselves while rekindling our memories, setting our feet on the path back home, and calling us to rise into our best versions of ourselves. Featured on the soundtrack of Sharon Stone's award-winning documentary, Femme: Women Healing the World, which also features performances by Annie Lennox, Yoko Ono, and Rickie Lee Jones, Hava is a recipient of the Human Spirit Award presented by the international organization Talent for Humanity. Her story is featured in their book along with seven other internationally acclaimed artist/activists. The original recording of her song RISE can be heard on Occupy this Album: 99 Songs for the 99% alongside artists such as Ani DiFranco, Jackson Browne, and Warren Haynes. Hava has always sought to relay a message of healing and hope in her music. Seeking solace from a difficult childhood, she turned to music at an early age. Self-taught on a twenty-dollar used guitar, she found inspiration in an old songbook she discovered in her parent's basement, 'Great Songs of the 60s.' Fire-lit, Hava immersed herself in the history of the 60s and early 70s. The music, culture, and activism helped her discover her calling for healing and ignited a drive to write songs that could change the world. While in university studying Music Therapy, Aliza developed a strong inclination towards student activism and discovered a natural gift for concert production and community organizing. She began producing charity concerts featuring local bands for campus organizations like Students for a Free Tibet, and led drum circles in the infamous “Tripping Fields” behind the college where some of the greatest names in music once played, including the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. With her college located just thirty miles from the town of Woodstock, Hava soaked up the culture and spirit that continued to permeate the region many decades later. She collaborated with local musicians, pulled all-nighters with her guitar around campfires, and earned herself the nickname, FireMusicFaerie. After college, Aliza began performing at and co-producing concerts at the United Nations headquarters in NYC. She earned a position as Chair of the UN International Day of Peace NGO Music Committee and went on to produce live concerts on six continents in partnership with over forty civic society, governmental, and environmental organizations. While living part-time in the Middle East, Hava represented UN-related peacebuilding initiatives and worked with Israeli and Palestinian musicians promoting peace and dialogue through music. She went on to produce the internationally live-streamed concert, Harmony in the Holy Land. This extraordinary event united Muslim, Christian, and Jewish musicians in a universal, musical prayer for peace from the heart of Jerusalem. Watching Palestinians and Israelis meet as strangers and part ways as friends, Aliza felt the reaffirmation of her calling to build bridges through the healing power of music. Hava has recently finished recording a new album at the iconic Revolver Recording Studios in Thousand Oaks, CA, produced by multi-platinum, Grammy winner Mikal Blue, who is best known for his work with Colbie Callait, Jason Mraz, and OneRepublic. The album is expected in Spring 2024 and features bassist Dean Dinning of Toad the Wet Sprocket as musical arranger and on bass/keys, and Gregg Bissonette (Ringo Starr, Santana) on drums. Her latest single, When the Children Cry, is a cover of White Lion's soulful ballad, and its message of peace is even more poignant today than it was when originally released in the late 80s. This song resonates through the generations with a message of healing and hope for the children of the world. In addition to writing her own music, Aliza collaborates with artists and songwriters and is a co-writer on Grammy-Award-winning artist Macy Gray's upcoming EP, produced by Mikal Blue. Throughout her journeys, Aliza has shared bills with world-class artists such as Dr. John, Michael Franti, Zac Brown Band, Rising Appalachia, and more. She has performed in the U.S., Canada, India, Morocco, Egypt, Italy, Australia, Jordan, Israel, and South Korea. With an inherent message of peace and universal love, Aliza considers her music and work a form of sacred activism. Her songs embody the power of music to uplift the mind, body, and soul while staying true to the ongoing practice of reclaiming our natural state. To find out more about Aliza, her story, and her music, check out her website at https://alizahava.com/.
TODAY is the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and to mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. Jun 18, 2021 #ParamahansaYogananda #KriyaYoga #GuidedMeditation To commemorate the seventh United Nations International Day of Yoga, Self-Realization Fellowship presents “Yoga — Uniting Our World Family,” a special program of inspiration, guided meditation, and affirmation led by SRF nun Sister Draupadi. Sister Draupadi begins with a brief talk about the importance and benefits of meditation, which Paramahansa Yogananda said was the essential spiritual practice at the heart of yoga, the “science of the soul.” Then she conducts a 35-minute meditation, which includes application of Yogananda's methods of preparing body and mind to meditate, practice of one of his spiritual affirmations on the theme of peace, and periods of silence. The meditation concludes with a period of prayer for healing of all those in need. Paramahansa Yogananda was a key figure in the introduction of India's science of yoga to Westerners. The last in a line of divinely illumined gurus, Yogananda was charged with making available worldwide the ancient and sacred science of Kriya Yoga, which includes certain techniques of meditation whose devoted practice leads to direct, personal experience of God. Yogananda wrote, “Had India no other gift for the world, Kriya Yoga alone would suffice as a kingly offering.” To learn more about the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons, the home-study course that Yogananda created to teach the science of meditation and the art of balanced spiritual living: https://yogananda.org/lessons Participate in other Day of Yoga guided meditations from SRF: German: • Geleitete Meditation mit Bruder Nikhi... It is probably one of the most elusive things pursued by humankind. When people ask: “what do you hope to achieve in life?” “what is your ultimate goal?” or “what is the meaning of life?” – you'll often hear the answer: I just want to be happy. The purpose of this holiday is to make people around the world realize the importance of happiness within their lives. Today marks the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Observed since 1992, it is a day aimed at promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society. To celebrate and promote awareness of this important day, Partner Emma Bartlett and Senior Associate Wonu Sanda are joined on this podcast by Husnara Begum, a former City corporate lawyer turned career management specialist and skills trainer, who has severe rheumatoid arthritis and is an incredible advocate for all forms of diversity and inclusion, to discuss how this year's theme, 'building back better', can be applied in the workplace context and, in particular, in the legal profession. Drawing on Husnara Begum's personal insights on the impact of her own disability and her experiences in the legal profession, this podcast explores how employers, business leaders, and senior managers can better recruit, support, and promote people with disabilities in the workplace. You can listen to previous episodes of our CM Murray podcast, where we discuss a wide range of topical issues in relation to partnership and employment law, here: www.cm-murray.com/cmmurraypodcast For more information on the topics covered in this recording, please contact our Partner Emma Bartlett or Senior Associate Wonu Sanda, both of whom specialise in employment and partnership issues for multinational employers, senior executives, partnerships and partners. To mark the ‘UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021' we're proud to be supporting Purple Space with their #PurpleLightUp event on Friday 3 December and joining the global conversation, leader to leader, between CEOs and employees with disabilities. In this podcast, our CEO Louise Smyth and members of our Ability Network, Stuart Brain and Martyn Flynn, discuss the importance of celebrating the economic contribution of employees with disabilities, why disability networks are such a powerful vehicle for cultural change and what purposeful leadership means to them.' Transcript Stuart Brain: Hello! My name is Stuart Brain. I am the chair of the Ability Network here in Companies House, which supports our colleagues and allies living with health conditions and disabilities. I'm joined today by the vice chair, Martin Flynn and our CEO, Louise Smyth. The 3rd of December is purple light up which is the international day of persons with disabilities and highlights the value that 386 million disabled employees around the world, bring to the workplace. Hi Louise. So why is Companies House chosen to support this year's purple light up? Louise Smyth: Hi, Stu. I'm absolutely delighted to be doing this video and taking part in purple light up provides a perfect opportunity for Companies House to visibly celebrate the economic contribution of employees with disability and shine a light on the work of those driving disability inclusion in our organisation, which is really important to us. Every single one of our employees plays an important part in helping us to achieve our vision, deliver the excellent services to our customers and ultimately, to drive confidence in the UK economy. SB: Fantastic. Thanks Louise. And I'm totally with you. I'm really excited to be supporting purple light up again this year and our Cardiff office looks amazing lit up purple again. And as you mentioned, all of our employees can help play a part and help us deliver our vision and deliver successful products services to our customers. So why is it do you think that learning directly from our employees with disabilities can be such a powerful vehicle for culture change here at Companies House? LS: You're right, it really can be powerful. It's important that we learn from everyone and that includes our disabled colleagues. So, each of them will have their own experience to bring to the table, and it will be different in every case. Both from the perspective of working within Companies House and how we need to shape our culture so everyone can bring their whole selves to work. But also, to provide insight, we need to be representative of our customers and the people that we serve. And so, disabled, colleagues can bring that insight of how things that we put out, services that we put out there, can impact disabled people and how they're going to experience that. So I think that's really important for us. SB: That's great. And I'm super proud of the brilliant work that colleagues from our Ability Network do to support our culture change. And also, really proud that we have great leadership from the top down here in Companies House. With all of our executive team engaged as senior sponsors of our many people networks. So, regards to leadership, what do you think are the characteristics of purposeful leadership? LS: Well, thanks Stu. I'm glad you think there's great leadership at Companies House. For me, purposeful leadership is achieved by empowering, motivating and energizing everyone to reach their full potential. And to do that, we need to have open conversations, we need to have trust, that's really important. And we need that trust to build people's confidence and remove barriers for Them particularly for people with disabilities. Some good examples of that could include making sure our recruitment processes are fully inclusive and that we're able to make the adjustments to support everyone. Could be having an interview buddy, extra time at assessments or receiving the interview questions in advance, they're just some examples. I'm really proud that Companies House is a disability confident leader. We're proud to promote that and to encourage all my senior leaders and other employees to think differently about disability and most important, to take action to improve the way that we recruit, retain and develop disabled people. SB: I totally agree with you Louise. And that environment has really given me the confidence to speak about my own health condition and along with other colleagues, which allows us to be a lot more comfortable in really just being ourselves that work. So, I suppose what does what does diversity and inclusion really mean for Companies House, do you think? LS: It's so important. It's the golden thread that runs through everything that we do and our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equality supports our brilliant people to deliver brilliant services to our customers. And it's vital that we're representative of the diversity of our customers and of society so that we can do that really well. We've made some great progress, we've got networks, thriving across Companies House to enable people to discuss issues that are really important to them, and that they share and to resolve. We've got a public target to increase the number of appointments we make to jobs from underrepresented groups by 10% and we're going great guns towards achieving that and I'm really proud of that. SB: That's great. I have to agree that our commitment to realizing our vision is fantastic. And seeing first hand that we do recognize and realize the contributions that our disabled colleagues, make to our whole organization is brilliant. I am so glad that we were able to have some time together today to discuss this and celebrate by supporting purple light up. Thanks for your time.

You can put episodes into many different categories. To me this episode would go into the category of special. Aside from being an award winning singer/songwriter who is a breath of fresh air and a throwback to the guitar slingers of the sixties and seventies I learned that Aliza Hava is an amazing human being with a beautiful soul.If you take a look at her university years it's clear to see that she has always been about making a difference and being a voice of change through her music. While studying Music Therapy she began producing charity concerts featuring local bands for campus organisations such as Students for a Free Tibet and NYPIRG. She led drum circles in the infamous "Tripping Fields" behind the college where some of the greatest names in music once played, including The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. It is during this time that she earned the nickname Fire Music Faerie.Post University Aliza embarked on performing at and co-producing concerts at the United Nations headquarters in NYC where she earned the position of Chair of the UN International Day of Peace NGO Music Committee. During this point in her career she went on to produce live concerts on six continents in partnership with over forty civic society, governmental and environmental organisations. During her time living part time in the Middle East, Aliza represented UN related peace building initiatives and worked with Israeli and Palestinian musicians promoting peace and dialogue through music. She produced the internationally live streamed concert Harmony in the Holy Land which united Muslim, Christian and Jewish musicians in a universal musical prayer for peace from the heart of Jerusalem.Throughout her career she has shared bills with world class artists such as Dr. John, Michael Franti, Matisyahu and many more and performed in the US, Canada, India, Australia, Jordan, Israel/Palestine and South Korea. Her music is featured on the soundtrack for Sharon Stone's award winning documentary Femme: Women Healing the World, which also features performances from Annie Lennox, Yoko Ono and Ricki Lee Jones. You can find out more about Aliza Hava here:https://www.alizahava.comhttps://www.instagram.com/alizahavamusichttps://open.spotify.com/artist/60BUoHCZpNG6jL7blH0af4?si=Ql43FTy7RCGrJplYCrDdTgContact us at Concertsthatmadeus@gmail.comFollow us on:Facebookwww.facebook.com/TheconcertsthatmadeusInstagramwww.instagram.com/concertsthatmadeuspodcastTwittertwitter.com/ConcertsUsCheck out our cool Merchconcerts-that-made-us-podcast.creator-spring.com/Support the showhttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/CTMU--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ctmu/message Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/concerts-that-made-us. She did it because, along with her social media pals, she was upset when she had no focus for fun on the day last year. She explains it all in this week's podcast from Ouch and the fact it's happening in a venue which is significant to the disability movement. What use is an F-call? For a little while now I’ve been working towards obtaining my DXCC, contacting 100 countries. When I talk about it, often the first question is, how many contacts have you made? I’m always a little ashamed to admit that I’ve yet to make my first. Often I then get lots of helpful advice on what to do. Let me share with you what I’ve been doing since I made the commitment to obtain my Low Power, or QRP DXCC. As I said at the time, I don’t know if this is going to take a week, a month, a year or a decade, but I intend to get there, if not for others, but for myself as a personal challenge. My first quest along this road was to get on-air. I started thinking that I would do this from my car, set-up my mobile vertical at a suitable location and just start making QSO’s. I spent a fair amount of time scouting for locations, found a few to test and after sitting for a couple of days in these spots a number of things became apparent to me. My antenna, as great as it is, is a pain to set-up for an hour. It’s fine for a day or a weekend, but not for an hour here or there. Secondly, I didn’t feel particularly inconspicuous sitting parked in my car with a big stick standing next to it and at night I felt particularly uncomfortable. So, after doing some research and evaluating how much space I have available at home, I came to the conclusion that I should get my shack set-up at home with a suitable antenna. I’ve been researching antennas and as you might know, have settled on a Magnetic Loop Antenna. This in turn lead me down the path of finding a suitable and eventually with the help of several amateurs, building a variable capacitor. All credit to them. Then I couldn’t measure the capacitance of this contraption, so I needed the ability to measure small capacitance, in the order of Pico Farad, something my Digital Multi-Meter is completely incapable of. So I built an LCR meter. Although I’ve been soldering for years and every time learning more about this art-form, this was the first time I actually built something. So, now I have a variable capacitor, an LCR meter, I’m working on how to feed my loop and control the actuator that adjusts the capacitor, I’m getting closer. Once I’m on-air, I’ll still need to sort out logging and QSL and no doubt I’ll learn more about what else is needed. One I know is needed is Morse and I’m struggling a little with that, but a day at a time. I aim to get to the point where Neil, VK6FSKB got to recently when he heard a station calling on 15m. He called back and made a QSO with GB0IDD, the special event station for the 2012 UN International Day of Disability. So, learning, doing and having fun. That’s what it’s all about. What have you been up to lately? I’m Onno VK6FLAB
