Healing From Emotional Wounds Healing Negative Emotions In this extended episode, Paul Clough tackles the persistent negative emotions that many of us struggle with - those emotional wounds from our past that seem to linger despite our best efforts to move on. Episode Highlights Paul introduces a gentle process for resolving emotional wounds that doesn't involve regression therapy Important safety note: For deep trauma or abuse issues, Paul strongly recommends working with a professional therapist Why negative emotions persist: Our unconscious mind is still running old protection programs from our younger self The goal: Teaching our unconscious mind that we have more resources and wisdom now than we did back then The Process Identify what resources you needed back then that you have now Confidence, calmness, curiosity, love, or simply knowing "this too shall pass" Connect with memories when you've felt these positive emotions The Inner Child Healing Exercise Identify when you first felt this negative emotion (often before age 10) Visualize your younger self on a stage in front of you Send the specific resources, emotions, and healing they needed Integrate your younger self with your current self, accessing all your wisdom and resources Additional Support If you're still experiencing negative emotions after trying this process, Paul suggests: Working with a therapist skilled in NLP, timeline therapy, and hypnosis Asking yourself: "What am I doing that I could stop?" or "What am I not doing that I could start?"

In simplicity there is genius Here's your heads up to this longer podcast. It's all about protecting yourself. We don't want to get hurt, huh? We don't want to feel guilty. Our unconscious mind is going to protect us from all things and we get triggered to fight back. And what does it do? We feel hurt. we feel guilty. It's not appropriate. I've got two processes here which will help you change that triggered reaction of defending yourself and protecting yourself at all costs. And it's so much better. Have a dive into this. You'll really enjoy, I'm sure. Okay, have a listen after the next 10 seconds. This is personal development unplugged, with Paul Clough. In simplicity, there is genius. In simplicity there is genius. This episode is just with one process and it's so, so good Okay, so as usual, I've been accused of putting too much into one episode and it being overwhelming. And because there are, two processes here, I've decided to split this episode into two. So we've got part one and part two. The second part will include a second process, and then you've got time to practice the first one, see how it works. Part of your, another part of your toolbox. And then in the next episode or the next part two, you'll have another process that you could do as well. You may choose one, you may choose another, or you can use either or both. That'll be real fun. So this episode is just with that one process and it's so, so good. And then I won't keep you hanging because shortly afterwards I'll issue the next episode, part two and we'll go into that second episode. Okay? So really enjoy and make a difference. Make a difference. The difference. That makes a difference. Cloughie talks about how to deal with being attacked So here we go. Hey, friend. Another, I don't know how long it'll be. A bit of a muse, a bit of a little honesty thing going here or talking about me a little bit maybe, I don't know. But it's all about how to deal with being attacked. You see it like boxing rings. They say, protect yourself at all times. And I think that's what our unconscious mind does, protects ourselves at, all times. Have you ever had this experience? You're going about your day, oblivious of what is happening around you. You're just getting on with stuff. And then you hear that voice in the background. Did you forget to do so and so? Why do you do that? Oh, look at this. And you think, is that a comment? No, you don't think that at all. You think that's an accusation, that's an attack. Someone's attacking me for stuff. And, I'm gonna hit back with a couple of randoms of my own. Yeah, well, and you and this. And what about. Ow. Have you had that before? When you see things and all of a sudden you snap, you're triggered, you fire. And it is that, not, what's that thing where you have to look, aim, fire. Or is it. Was it a steady aim, fire. Steady aim, fire. But this is, this is fire, fire, fire. Oh, there's no aim, is there? And there's certainly no steady. Already ready. whatever that is, whatever it is, there's none of those other two. It's just firing randomly. First of all, I have to ask a question and I ask this of myself. How's that working for you? Cloughie, and you go, well, I did fight back and I didn't get hurt, huh? Yes, you did, because it wasn't nice, was it? It wasn't nice because things spiral out of control, don't they? You know, you get tone of voice sometimes, okay? That tone of voice is saying something about me, about what I've done, about what I haven't done. Or it's that look. Whoa. Oi. Don't look at me like that. I haven't done anything. Attack back. Attack back. So you always got to remember that line I started with. Remember, defend yourself at, all times. Sometimes it's like that. Hit first, don't wait. And then guess what happens now, have you been here where you. Someone says something. When you look back at it now, pretty innocuous. It's pretty, it's about something very, very mundane. Maybe, you left something on the side or you didn't quite do that, you forgot to do something. It isn't a big deal when you look back now, but at the time, it was an attack. It wasn't a front on you personally. And that argument, because you hit back to protect yourself, to give you that defence, and you carried on hitting back to make sure you never got hit, that argument spiraled to m all parts of the globe, you know? And if you think about. If you took each one of those individually, you'd notice that had nothing to do with it. It wasn't anything to do with that comment in any way, shape or form. Your unconscious mind has to protect you in all ways, shapes or forms Now, have you had that situation or is that just me? I hope it's not just me. Well, I do hope it's just me, but I know it isn't. I think I've seen it so many times and I've been in it so many bloody times. This is one of my pet things that I work on. And I know why and I know how. And I. You know, when I say I know why I don't want to. It's not the why that I get up with some limiting belief of, People have always attacked me. I've got to look after myself. I can't do this. I can't do that. Just in case there's a positive intention. That's the why you've got a best friend inside your unconscious mind that has to protect you in all ways, shapes or forms. Doesn't want to get you hurt. Doesn't want you have that feeling of guilt, maybe. And it uses all forms of defenses. But the thing is, as an intention, what a wonderful thing to have your best friend looking. Has got your back, hasn't it? Got your back, front, sides, up and down. Protecting you every moment of the day. And that's so honourable. And I like to honour my best friend. I like to honour your best friend, your unconscious mind for doing what it's doing. Trying its best to look after us, look after you, look after me. But the thing is, that behavior now is no longer appropriate. Because if you think about it, if someone says something, were they really trying to attack you? Really, honestly, truly? Come on. It was a stupid thing to do, Stu. But you try to defend yourself. But the thing is, it. This is so totally inappropriate. I'm, going to tell you how we're going to get out of that. And how you're going to check for that. But you see, what happens is there's a thing called the communication model in NLP. And it's how we communicate. Or how we filter the outside world to our inside world. How we perceive reality as it were. And, make it our reality of a reality out there. Because each of us, as we look at an event that's happening will have a different connotation, a different view, literally a different view of that event going on. Because what happens is we see that event through. And, we filter it through all our. All our senses, our sight, our hearing, our feelings, smell and taste. We also filter it through deletions, distortions and generalizations. In order to make sense of that reality outside. Because there's so much information bombarding us. And we have to filter it out. Because if not, we'd go pop. And there's also our attitudes and our experiences, values and beliefs. And you see, if you have got experiences in the past where you have been hurt, maybe you have been made to feel guilty. No, I'll change that. Where you chose to feel guilty, it's different. No one makes you feel anything. You choose. That's a hard one to accept sometimes because you've heard it before. You made me do that. And when you say very directly now, you chose to feel that way. That hurts sometimes because it's true. And then we fight back against that. But if we've had experiences of the past where we've chosen to feel hurt and we've chosen to feel guilty and things like that, then it's like an anchor. And, our unconscious mind goes, I know how to defend against this. Fight back. And it worked. Maybe a long time ago when you was a ickle lickle person, your unconscious mind, with very little wisdom, very little experience in the world, fought back. Maybe you just said something nasty and the other person just went away. And your unconscious mind goes, ah, that stops me feeling guilty. That stops me, you know, getting hurt. And it does it more and more. And it even looks for sounds. The look, as I said, the sound of a voice might trigger that response. The look of someone's face may trigger that defunct, might trigger that response. And you get defensive straight away before someone's even said anything. That look makes you defensive. Have you had that before? And I think, as we say, thank you to our unconscious mind for doing this. But hey ho, think about this, mister, and misses unconscious mind. It's no longer, it's no longer inapp, it's no longer appropriate. These are inappropriate responses. There are so many better ways. And I believe when we show our unconscious mind that there are better ways, it has to, without shadow of a doubt, 100%. It has to choose a better way. Why wouldn't it? If it's, if it is geared up, to protect you, that's its role. To keep you safe, to protect you and keep you healthy. How can it choose something that's less than the alternative? It can't, can it? But what we have to do is, first of all, honour that intention so we don't just beat ourselves up. I got a lovely story about that. And this morning, I decided I would give myself a good old beating up. In my journal, I'm going to talk about on a five minute quickie. Because it made me. It's like beating myself up and making myself laugh at the same time. Sometimes we speak harshly to our best friend inside And I did. I really tore into myself. I think I'll do that on a five minute quickie. And you can see everything. But the thing is that sometimes we even speak to our best friend inside so much more harshly than we would a best friend outside. We'd actually say thank you. Thank you for helping me, thank you for trying to find a better way, but we'll do that. And then I'm going to show you in a moment a couple of processes, how we can just guide our unconscious mind to find better ways. I'd suggest that you go to one to one therapy Now, before we go into those processes, what I'd like to say is, if this is really getting on your nerves, if this is something that is happening over and over again, and it is making your relationships really bad, it's making your life feel, hurt and guilty, because that's a conflict, isn't it? That's a massive direct conflict. I'm going to protect you as your unconscious mind from being hurt and guilty. You have one of those stupid bloody arguments that spiral out of control. You get passive aggressive, they get passive aggressive, you both pee off into different directions for a day or two. And in all that time, I protected you from feeling hurt and guilty. And what do you do? You feel hurt and guilty all that time until you go and make up. And sometimes I've seen it in some family situations and that there is no makeup. That's it forever. And, what a waste that is through this. So if it is something that is maybe you feel getting slightly out of control, what I'm going to share with you will help. But I'd also suggest that you go to one to one therapy. Now, there's a lot of adverts on, on the Internet about therapy. I have some real issues with that because I don't know, understand how you do therapy by text. I mean, that is crazy. Have you ever tried to understand anybody on a text? The emotion doesn't come through, does it? No, it's absolutely b's, I think. I believe. I find it difficult to do on the phone because you can't see facial expressions because people can say things. And, you know, if you were looking at them, that's not quite what they meant. They have unconscious communication. Their unconscious mind is saying one thing and their conscious mind is saying something else. And that's where the conflict is. You can't see that over telephone. So I like one to one, you can do it online, like with, to see your therapist and let them to see you. Ideally one to one in the same room so they are with you, so they can see the whole of your body, the whole body language. I don't like body language, but the whole unconscious communication, and they can jump in there and then. Now, if that's the thing, do look for this one I prefer, I would suggest, I'd recommend is find someone who's a master hypnotist. And in that role of a master hypnotist, they also have maybe certainly a practitioner of NLP. But I'd like to see a master practical of NLP. I'd also like to see a master prac or master practitioner of timeline therapy. You put those three together, you have got someone who's got some absolutely awesome skills. And also because I know the way they've been trained, they will look to make this the change in you and you to change in you. they won't do it for you. You will change with their guidance, their help, but you'll do it quickly, you'll do it easily and you'll do it effortlessly. It does not have to be hurtful, it does not have to be painful. You don't have to keep going back to old experiences. You don't. You get your unconscious mind to learn anyway. That's another subject. If you look back to what to expect, I think it's, I don't know, I did it in a five minute quickie or something like that a long time ago. And I think it's called what to expect in a therapist, something like that. Search for that, tell you all about it. And if you go to one to one therapy, you will really hammer at home. and what I'm going to share with you now will also help. Cannot do any harm at m all on that. So there, that's my advice. If that is really peeing you off and you think this is, you know, really creating a relationship that's going to maybe no longer be a relationship and that would be such a shame, get your therapy in. But here's the thing, let's go on to these processes are, ah, you with me for that? Because this will work on all sorts of responses you have, the things you're triggered about. So now what we can do is, well, we have to learn from past events, because if we don't learn from past events, then our unconscious mind carries on doing that same inappropriate response, one of an intention, and we're never going to change that intention because I want that your best friend to keep the intention from you getting hurt, huh? From feeling guilty, from feeling anything negative, only want positive things for you, safety for you comfortable. Feeling comfortable is the wonderful, safest place you could be in my mind. So here's what you could do. You can just reflect on, say there was that silly argument that got out of control. So we can reflect on it. But the way to reflect on it is not to go back into it. Because if you go back into it and see through your own eyes what you saw, then hear what you heard then. So you're seeing the look on the face, you're hearing that, you're hearing the tone of the voice, and you're getting those feelings, and you're hearing those words and you're getting those old feelings again. You're back to where you were again. And you can't learn, you can't read the label from inside the bottle or the jar. You know that. So we're going to dissociate for a little while because that's a lovely filter. Because when we dissociate, we can see things from a dispassionate perspective. It's literally seeing the whole thing without the emotion. And without that emotion, we can then learn and decide of different ways. So you could just imagine a movie in front of you of that memory, and the memory will never be the same, but it doesn't matter because we're going to do something really good. You run through that memory and just let it run through in your mind over there on that movie screen. And you're seeing yourself, by the way, in that movie. So you're watching yourself and the other person, maybe you're on the phone or whatever it is, but you're just, you're seeing a picture, a movie of yourself from over here. You can see yourself over there. That's called dissociation. And you just watch it go through. And your unconscious mind can do this quite quickly. So if it was a, it went on for half an hour, you're not going to watch it for half an hour. You could just get some snippets of it. Because your unconscious mind can relive a memory in seconds. And then what we're going to say to our unconscious mind is, let's just cut out the crap. Sorry about that, but let's just. The fluff. Let's call it the fluff. I said that because sometimes it's emotional, but let's take out all the fluff. The things that people said, the things that you may have said which were totally irrelevant to what was the aim of that first comment. And you take that away and you then replay that movie with just, I call it the facts, the truth, none of the stuff you made up, and you filter through your experiences. Let's just have the truth. They said this, and this is what happened. So maybe you were late and they accused you of oh, you're late. So you don't respect me anymore? And you go, oh, don't you have a go at me? I respect, what about you? The last time you, now you go, okay, let's take the fluff all out of that. What actually happened? I had agreed to be back on a particular time and I didn't. I did turn up late. Steve: Imagine your unconscious mind looking at different ways of dealing with situations And what they said was true. That's it. They're the facts. I had agreed to do something and I didn't do what I agreed. And they have just pointed that out to me now. They're the facts. That's what really is the nub of all of this. So how can I learn to do that better? And if you imagine another movie screen beside that one, you say, well, let's play a movie of how I could have reacted differently. And it could be that I see myself going in and someone saying, oh, you're late. You don't respect me. And you go, look, I'm really sorry. I respect you immensely and I have maybe done it wrong. I was actually trying to do something else and I forgot and it's totally my fault and I apologize profusely. And m they might say something else. I don't know. I apologize. I'm really sorry. I'm going to do my best to never let that happen again. That might be way, that might be a way another one could be. They say, you're late, you don't respect me. And you say, I respect you so much that I had to deal with something. And in my head I knew if I didn't deal with it when I come and saw you and be with you, I couldn't give you my full attention. Now I, know I should have let you know and I didn't, and that's my bad. Notice what reaction you would get and you can run through a few of these and you get your unconscious mind and go, you know, I can do this consciously, like I did those two. What would you do? Unconscious mind in a different way. Knowing I've got so many other skills, I've learned so many different things, I have positive experiences. How could I could have just rung earlier and said, I'm really sorry, I'm going to be late. I have an issue. Is that, okay? Explain the issue. Hey, that would work. They go, okay, thank you so much for letting me know. Now I can go do something and I'll be back later. Oh, now I've got three alternatives and, what I like to do is in front of those alternatives I like to imagine me, another me, looking at those screens of a me doing all that stuff. So it's got. So that me in front of me is looking at those three screens, as it were. And I want that me out there to go, what else could I do? As if I was looking into the future and making sure that I've got all different, different ways of, ah, approaching that similar event in the future. And, because it's doing that, my unconscious mind is actually me over there doing that for me. And, when it does that more and more, it actually feels it's actually happening in the real world. It cannot tell the difference between reality, what's happening in the now, and, what's happening in your mind. And so we've done it. And you say to yourself, which one of those would have had a better result? Which one of those would have stopped me feeling and, protected me from hurt? Which one of those would protect me from feeling guilty? Ah, And then you just go, sorry, just say this or something better. And imagine your unconscious mind going through all your experiences, all your skills to work, to, have a repertoire, to have, like a recipe. And if you want, you know, maybe it doesn't work straight away. Maybe you have to take one or two times to do this. Sometimes it works absolutely straight away, but something happens. And so as soon as you can just replay it, you might find halfway through, you're triggered, and, halfway through you go, actually, can we just stop? And you then go into one of those processes, one of those reactions, one of those ways of dealing with that situation. And then, you know, you're learning. You know, you're doing the stuff. So that's a wonderful. That process, by the way, that's like a process of responding to criticism. And that process was created by a wonderful man, a, wonderful man called Steve Andreas. He's no longer in this, this world now, unfortunately, he's gone to the multiverse, universe, heaven, wherever you want to go, whatever you want to think. And I love that process. I love all the work that he did. So if you're interested in NLP, do look for works by Steve Andreas. Paul Clough: Please do give this process a real go play with it Okay, so that's where we're going to split this episode. I hope you enjoyed it. Please do give that process a real go play with it. Because when you set your intention and have that childlike quality of play, curiosity, you will make this so good. You'll find out new ways and your unconscious mind will take them on, because that's what your unconscious mind does. It finds when you find better ways, it has to take them on because it knows your comfort is where safety is. And the more comfortable you are in responding to other people's communication, because that's all we're doing. We're using all our skills and enjoying life, dealing with things that come, come and maybe side blind us, if that's the right word, I don't know. But that's what we're going to do. How To Deal With Being Attacked Part 1 Protecting Yourself from Triggered Reactions In this episode, we dive into the mechanisms our unconscious mind uses to protect us from feeling hurt or guilty. Often, these protective reactions are triggered and lead to unnecessary conflict. I'll introduce two powerful processes to help you change these triggered reactions and respond more appropriately. This episode is split into two parts to give you time to practice the first process before moving on to the second. In part one, you'll learn a method to reflect on past conflicts and discover better ways to respond, helping you build a more effective toolbox for personal development. In this first part I dive into the what and the why and all things south and end up with one process that really can have a huge impact on resolving this issue. The process is all about training your unconscious mind to hear and see what's really happening and responding in the the most appropriate way and not just straight int Fight mode. By understanding and honoring the positive intentions of your unconscious mind, you can guide it to choose better ways to protect you, leading to more harmonious relationships and a more comfortable life. Listen in and start making a difference in how you handle conflicts and protect yourself in a healthier way. https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/protecting-yourself-from-triggered-reactions-part-1 Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. So I'm not going to leave you hanging. As I said, I will issue the next part, part two in the next few days. So keep an eye out for that and we'll just move around an FMq instead. Okay. And so have fun. Let me know if you want to let me know of how it worked or if it was, maybe it was a little bit confusing. I hope it wasn't. But if there was any confusion, please do let me know by email. Feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugged. Let me know. Or maybe there's a scenario that you think, would this work or won't it work? Ask me the question. I'll either adapt it, give you an idea, or maybe there's another process that's even more applicable, more appropriate. So there's my offer to you to come and test me. And, let's see where we can go. So, my friend, have more fun than you can stand. Go fly and I'll see you here, or you'll hear from me in the next few days. Okay. Reviewing The Past To Move Forward Now, I know what you're thinking – why dwell on the past? Isn't personal development all about the future? Well, yes and no. Here's the thing: understanding our past is like having a map. It shows us where we've been, helps us see the patterns in our journey, and guides us toward where we want to go. Think about it – when you look back at your own life, what do you see? Moments of triumph, sure, but also those stumbles and falls. And guess what? Both are equally valuable. Those victories? They remind you of your strengths and capabilities. Those mistakes? They're not failures; they're lessons in disguise, packed with insights about what to avoid and how to navigate obstacles more effectively. Let's take a practical example: maybe you started a project that didn't quite hit the mark. Instead of brushing it off, dissect it. What worked? What didn't? What could you do differently next time? This kind of reflection transforms past experiences into stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. On a broader scale, societies do the same thing. By studying historical events, we gain a collective wisdom. Economic policies that led to booms or busts, social movements that brought about change – all these offer blueprints. They guide current decisions, helping us avoid past pitfalls and replicate successes. So, here's your unplugged challenge: take a moment to reflect. It's a bit negative, Cluffy. Well, it is and it isn't. We're going to go from regret, guilt, sadness, to passion, doing things that we may have thought about giving up. And now they're going to be the forefront of our mind and create pleasure for us, other people and the whole wide world. Big ask, but it's doable. So please have a listen after this. Hey, friend. How you doing today? Are you good? Are, you good? I hope you aren't good. And this is not going to be the three special steps, the magical steps, the ten steps, the three keys that, Because that's just bloody clickbait, isn't it? And even I'm getting caught on that because I just want to listen to good stuff. And it's really hard to get into the good stuff. And hopefully this might be quite good. And I've called it something like, I'm not sure what the title of this is going to be until I put it out there, but you don't review. If you don't review the past, you can't go forward. But the thing is, is this just me? I see people doing some really good stuff and I'm, totally impressed. And I'm inspired sometimes. And I just want to think, oh, I'd, love to be like that. And I know I can be. I can be and I can do that stuff if I wanted to. But then I think back. Think back over things I didn't continue. Now that's a. We've jumped a little bit there from. But the things I, Well, you know, you get that bloody thing. Is this the same as you? Where I see something, see somebody doing something, and I know they're really good at it. And maybe I couldn't get to that level. Well, I probably could if I wanted to, but even if I didn't want to, I wanted to get to a reasonable level. I just think, if only, if only I'd spent a bit more time, or I wish I'd. I wish I'd just done, that a little bit extra. I wish I hadn't given up. And I get those, I wish I. And I'd only. And I should have done and all that stuff. And then I think to myself, now it's too late, isn't it? And what happens? I feel down. Do you feel like that. You feel down when you look back at the stuff you could have done, should have done, would have done. If only I'd done. Yeah. And do you know, do you do this? Do you do this? I know I have. We make up excuses why we didn't do it, why we didn't carry on, you know. Well, I wasn't that good at it anyway. I didn't really want to do it, you know. It wasn't for me. I'd never be that good. I haven't got the aptitude. I'm a bit stupid, really. I couldn't do that. It's too difficult. But inside, inside, when we're quiet with ourselves, we go back to, I really wish I'd. If I just spent that little bit more time. And then I get into that feeling of regret when I think about what I could be doing right now, if only then I get guilty for not doing it, for not following through. And then I get sad. And, all I've done is seen somebody who's inspired me, and reminded me. And that's the problem, isn't it? They've reminded me of the things I could have done, would have done, should have done, and I didn't. And I've still got some things that I haven't quite given up on, not quite. And I'm not going to, I've decided, because even if I see someone doing something completely different that I would never do, I'm still inspired by how they got there. Because we all know you need practice. But the thing is, the things I've got are, I parked them, I've given my excuse to park them. They're dormant. I'll give you one little thing on the spur of a moment. Say 15 odd years ago, I bought myself a guitar because I was going to play the guitar and I took lessons and I still got that guitar. And I still can't play much more than I ever did a few years ago. Still got me basic chords. I can do a bar chord, but I don't really know enough to. Well, I know enough to play a song, but I don't know. I haven't done enough to remember how to play a song or what to do. And I go, oh, There's a little bit of that regret, that guilt, but I haven't let it go yet. I have not let it go. So then I thought, I've been thinking about this because I do a lot of thinking about things. And we've got to get from thinking to doing I know, but if you think honestly, really, honestly, do you still, do you really want to do it? Because you have to be honest. Is it peer pressure? Is it something that is ego driven? You know, if I could play the guitar really well, everyone would look up to me and things like that. Now, that's not me. But it could be not. Could be me. It could be somebody else thinking that, you know, doing something to shine, but to be the centre of attention, ego led. Could be that, or it could be just something that you felt that, well, that's what everyone was doing. So you got to do it. You're out of the crowd if you don't do it. Cluffy: Don't spend time doing things you don't want to do Or is it something that was so bloody weird and special because you wanted to be weird and special? You know, pretend to be weird and special. I love weird. I love special. But not what people, you know, pretend, to be. They're false, inauthentic. But if it isn't, if you're really honest with yourself and you go, do you know what? I don't want to do that. Then I think you should celebrate. What's that, Cluffy? You're talking about giving up? No, I'm not talking about giving up. I'm talking about not doing the things you don't want to do and then feeling regret, guilt, sadness, or any other bloody negative emotion or the reverse of that, spending a lot of time doing something you don't want to do and get no satisfaction out of it at all. So I think if you get a no, you go, yay, yay, let's celebrate that. No. And you know what? Find something else to bloody do. Something that will give you reward will be. I know, sometimes it's not passionate straight away, but the more you work at it, you get more passionate at it because you get better and you get more interested in it, and you find new things to do and new friends and new co and it just builds and builds and builds and builds and builds. So I can remember the first time I did hypnosis. I didn't know what I was doing. It was weird. I was clunky. I had to think of the words and then remember them. M I couldn't do all of that. And now, bit by bit over the years, and it's been a long few years now, I still love it. Still thinking about doing this bloody podcast which has hypnosis and NLP in and things like that. So there are some things that are difficult, sometimes they're hard, but as you do them, you gives you such a sense of satisfaction. But if it was a no, what a waste of 20 years, that would have been, wouldn't it? Over 20 years I've been doing this. What a waste. When you do something in this maybe one life and you don't get to love it. You don't get to love the time you spend doing things. You don't get that satisfaction of just stretching yourself doing that thing that's just a little bit difficult. And for yourself, no bugger else for yourself, you get that satisfaction because I guarantee you, the old Cluffy guarantee comes in. If you're doing something like that, I guarantee you somebody's going to get the benefit outside of you. They're either going to get the benefit of the thing you do or being around you when you're feeling good about yourself, when you get that, because that confidence in one thing will spread elsewhere, that dedication will spread elsewhere. If you think about stuff that you've parked, it's not over So if you think about the stuff that you've maybe parked and you do, you know, if we were to put a list out, because I love writing things down, put a list out of the things that, you've sought apart, the things that you would like to do. Well, they're in two categories, really. They're the things that you started, but you haven't really pushed on, you haven't taken it to your full limit, your full set of capabilities, because somehow you just didn't do it, but you really wish you did because you know, you knew, you know, now, if you'd have spent the time way back then all the way to now, you'd be bloody good at it. And the thing is, that means it's not over because we just carry on. So if it still holds something good for you, we're just going to make a note of it. I want to go through stuff in a minute. Or you might think, actually, that doesn't quite hold something for me. But, and there is a but on this one because we're negating the bit at the back. It leads me to think of something different, something new, and I want to try something new, which is good. So we're not. We're sort of parking an old one. And it's evolved and developed into something new. So you've now got a list of the things you want to do So you've now got a list of the things you want to do. And, I think you got to decide. And this is what I did. I've decided one of two things. And I said to myself, and I'm sorry, there's a swear word coming up, because I do swear at myself, to myself. I just said, oh, fuck it, I'm going to do it, then. That's it. And once you've made that decision, you've committed. Now we can start to really do something about it. So we don't feel regret, we don't feel guilt, we don't want sadness, because we know now that if we let it go again, that's gonna be a double whammy. We're not gonna go there. That's the pain. And I don't like working from pain, but that's a bloody pain. Double regret, double guilt, double sadness, double everything negative. And, we don't like moving away from pain, but we are for a minute, because it's like. And I don't know whether I've done this on a five minute quickie yet or not, but it's called the ikigai of stretch, something I've done on a five minute quickie. I think it's quite a long five minute quickie, but it's how to start doing the things you really want to do. But first of all, you've got to decide that, fuck it, I'm going to do it. That's it, done. I've committed. But then let's. Let's be honest. Be honest. What is our skill level now? I know you're going to say, well, I haven't done it for bloody out, you know, a couple of years, Paul, or maybe I haven't done it for a month, or maybe I haven't done it for six months. Whatever it is, I know with a couple of hours of practice, you'll get back to that level that you were. because it comes back. It's in the muscle. It will come back. So you just dedicate a few. Couple of hours to just to find that level where you are. So we're going to be honest. We're not going to be bumping ourselves too high. And also, we're not going to be that thing. Oh, I'm not very good at this when you know you're reasonable. So let's really get our skill level. So now we know where we are right now in the thing that you want to do, and you might have more than one thing. I don't care. I do care, but I want you to care that you can either do one or many, but not too many at once. We're gonna. You have to piece each bit at a time, because if not, you'll get that overwhelm. And guess what? You won't do any of the buggers. And then you'll go, double regret, double kill, double sadness. But now we've got that skill level, and then you go, okay, well, where do I want to be? Where do I eventually want to end up at a skill level? What is my desired, my desire for, you know, and the goal for doing this? What level do I want to be and what does. And when? You just be honest with yourself. I know when I did my hypnosis, I wanted to be the best bloody therapist in the world. That was it. So no high bar there? Cluffy? Not there yet, but I'm bloody going close. I know that in me, and that's not big headedness. I know I've put the work in, put the effort in, but if you come down to guitar, not so good. But where would I want to be? Well, I want to be able to play songs that I like. I've either. I've got. I'll say that again. I'm going back into my art, my sketching, what level? I know what level I am. I'm half decent. When I apply myself, I'm half decent. I've got a little bit of skill. Where do I want to go? I, want to be able to spend time and create things that I love, things I can be proud of for me, because I know that when I do that, I lose track of time. So I have to set a timer, but I lose track of the world. It's like having a no mind that. No mind feeling that nothing is there and you're just lost in it. And that's wonderful. It's in the flow. So that would give me that. And I know when I do that, I'd be looking at different things in the world. I'd be looking for beauty, looking for contrast. I'd be looking at different books, and my interest would be sparked everywhere. I'd learn new things, and that would then bring me into different things because I want to model them. So my NLP and hypnosis comes back. So, can you see how I've. I've got desires? So they're all different levels, but I know where I am, and I know very roughly where I want to be. And, that might change as you get better, because as you get better, you might say, actually, do you know, I actually want to start performing or I want to start selling this stuff, or I want to. Whatever, whatever, whatever. I know when I did that hypnosis and hypnotherapy, I wanted to be the best therapist in the world. But then I got into training, and that's nowhere that I wanted to be. It wasn't in my horizon of thoughts yet. Circumstances came along and then, oh, this is a new avenue, and then I wanted to help and share what I knew and it just was such a good thing. It made my life completely different with the opportunities that came along and more importantly, that the people I met along the way and also the close bond that I have with my children because two of them I work with, one I used to work with very, very closely and this just made it even better. So from that very first thing, I didn't know where it was going to go. Had my limits. Well, not my limits, had my desire levels and it spread from there. But here's the thing. Here's the thing. Once you've written that down and you're totally honest and you go, right, fuck it, I'm going to do this. If you only spent ten minutes a day for a year, do you know what And you think, well, I want to give you some maths. The math. If you only spent ten minutes a day for a year, do you know what that would be? 61 bloody hours. You imagine that? I don't know. If you do a, ten day, ten hour day, six bloody days full time on the bloody thing and, that's only spending ten minutes a day. Now, in ten minutes a day you could maybe practice a few chords. In ten minutes a day you could practice a little sketch. Maybe you could read something for ten minutes a day. But there's one thing about ten minutes a day. We've all got ten minutes a day that we've nearly swore again that we waste, that we mindlessly. I'm gonna call it death scroll, I think. Do they call it that? I don't know. But you know when you just get lost in bloody crap on the Internet or you. You sit there and you do something mind numbingly numbing and you do it for more than ten minutes a day. I know you do. You look at your bloody phone and things like that, you can just know that you've got ten minutes. So if you just allocated ten minutes a day for a year, it'd be 61 hours. Just imagine if you started doing a few more years than that, uh? And it's only still ten minutes of bloody day, you would still get bloody good the end of that year. You would be far better than you can imagine, I guarantee you that. Because we always overestimate what we can do in the short term and underestimate what we can do in the long term. So at the end of a year, I guarantee you, you would be far better than you can imagine, right? Now, having spent only ten minutes a day, and people will actually say, oh, yeah, but it's only ten minutes. I can. But you gotta bloody commit to that. You know, fuck it, I'm gonna do it. Ten minutes. I'm gonna find that ten minutes. I'm gonna schedule. We'll go to that in a minute. I'm getting a bit carried away. Well, let's change it. Cause sometimes you might say, well, ten minutes doesn't really. What I wanna do isn't really long enough. Ten minutes. But m maybe I need to spend a lot longer. And maybe you're fortunate enough to be able to spend 2 hours a day. If you did 2 hours a day for a year, that would be 728 hours. That is equivalent to 30, 24. It's a month full time. And you go, oh, I'll do that. No, that ain't gonna happen. I'll tell you that now. Unless you are, completely, totally dedicated, you got nothing else to do. Probably ain't gonna happen. So I want to get real now. Still in the maths, let's get real, say. Takes a little bit more time than ten minutes. We're gonna spend 20 minutes. We can all find 20 minutes, can't we? But only 20 minutes for four times a week. Oh, Cloughy. I can do more than that. No, no, no. Let's not get overwhelmed. 20 minutes, four times a week. Do you know how many hours that is in a year? 70 bloody hours. It's totally doable. And the thing is, if you are doing 20 minutes four times a week, you're going to be up there in that highest ten or 20% in the world of doing stuff. And forget the 10,000 hours of practice once you start dedicating your stuff, because you're going to get. Because you're going to start at, 20 minutes, four times a day, four times a week, four times a day. And you start to see your improvement, start to see the things that are available to you. You're creating a habit. I'm going to an FMQ to help you with this as well. To get that habit really into the muscle. That's what I love to call it. Getting these things into your muscle. So they're just a muscle memory. You just worked by itself because it's totally doable. But you go, you know, that's only 20. So you start off with that 20 minutes for four times a week. But because you start to see your improvement, because you see the opportunities happening, you see, oh, this could be so interesting. I just spent a little bit more time. So maybe you spend 30 minutes, four times a week. Guess what? You're up to, like a hundred hours in a, year. That's amazing. How good would you get if you look back over the years into the past of the stuff you wish I'd, If only I'd. And you said if I spent a hundred hours over the last three years doing that, 300 hours, I would be pretty, pretty, pretty good. And it's real and it's doable. But the thing is what you have to do. So we've got the math, so we now go, okay, I can do 4 hours, come back, cluffy, four times a week, 20 minutes just to get started. That's for the first, say, month or so. And then if you want to ramp it up, you can do that. Or you do another 20 minutes on a different subject, 4 hours, four times a week, rather, because you can spend alternate days doing different stuff. Whatever we can, it's all doable. But then you say, right, what's the first thing I have to do? I, know I've got to set my intention, and my intention is exactly where I want to be. And if you want to do it in the way we do here in personal development, unplugged, see yourself doing it, having got there to that level that you desire to be, see yourself over there doing it, knowing it's totally doable. And notice a smile on your bloody face and notice all the things that are happening because of it. What you want to do now is review your life If you want to flow out into your body over there as if you've already achieved that desired level and feel what it'd be like to be like that and then come back into you. Now you know where you're going. That's like setting your intention. This is what I expect. This is where I'm working for. And, Bloody commit. And my commit is, fuck it, I'm gonna do it. That's it. And when I do that, you have to schedule. You schedule those four times a week. You stick it in a diary, you stick it in your phone. It is sacrosanct now. Nothing. Nothing. Except. Except something that is. So if someone needs your help, then obviously you'll help them. You can find it. You can reschedule it, can't you, in that week. But here's the thing. It's not just a case of putting it into your schedule and m doing it and say, oh, over, the last six months, I've done, four times a week, 20 minutes of time, because Cloughy said so. No, what you want to do now is review. And that's why I said right at the beginning, if you don't review the past, you can't go forward. But we're only reviewing to see how far we've come, how much we've improved. Because sometimes, here's the sometimes what happens is you get to a level and you think, this is my new norm. And you don't realize how far you've come and you don't celebrate. So if you look back over the last month or the last couple of months, six months, a year, and you go, shit, I have moved on so much. Wow, I didn't realize that the stuff I'm doing now that I couldn't have contemplate it just clough is right. I couldn't have contemplated how, how good I could get in that short period of time. And, look what I'm enjoying now. This is my new now, my new normal, my new reality. And I create, and I create the bloody thing. So you should celebrate because you went to this thing we called at. Ah. Cause you caused this to be, to happen. Cause and effect. Do the work, put it in. The effect is you get the results because you did it. And you might do it weekly, and then you might do it on a monthly basis. And you know what? As you review, you're going to go, wow, happy days. And the days is d a z e, by the way. Happy days. And then you can look from here and say, well, what else can I do? Because I guarantee there's another cluffy guarantee. The more you do things like that, as I said before, you will find things like relationships will get enhanced. Your career, the things you do, the things you get paid for. All different areas of your life will get better, too. Your confidence will change, your competence will change, your attitude will change. You'll be interested and interesting that synchronicity will come and bop you on the head and go, look at this. Here's something. What a coincidence. You've now got this as well. And as long as we go back to that very thing, as long as don't do it for ego, make sure do your check. Is what I'm doing good for me. Is what I'm doing good for other people. That may be, not directly, but, yeah, they're getting to be around me when I'm happy, that's good for them. Or maybe you're doing things that actually provide a service. Maybe it'll become your passion and job, things that you love to do, things you're good at and things that people pay you for and things that the world needs. That is the icky guy of passion, finding that sweet spot. There you go. So I'm so passionate about this now. And it's all come from feeling pissed off with regret, guilt and sadness and seeing people that inspire me and what would happen if you saw the world that way. And, I know you do, but sometimes we just have to change our filters. We change our filters to look for inspiration and then don't go, well, I know they're a lot better than me. No, they're just normal people doing extraordinary things, but they put the work in. Paul Clough hopes this episode inspires you to do something different So maybe I've got to start further back. But I can get to the level that I want to because Paul's told me the maths. I hope, and I always hope this, that, I've communicated this in a way that's, that works, that hopefully inspires you. A lot of this is just for me, by the way, because it inspires me. But I want to share what inspires me and what I learn and what I do, but I hope it inspires you just to look at things differently. Because when you look at things differently, guess what? Things look different. And if it has inspired you to do something, I'd love your feedback on that. What did it inspire you to do? Because I know the ripples of change go everywhere, and I don't know what it is for you. And I'd love to know because that might inspire me to do different episodes around the things that you love, I can get more specificity. So if it has inspired you to do something, please let me know. Personal, it's feedbackersonaldevelopmentunplugged.com. If it hasn't and it did something completely different, let me know. That is because I love the feedback. If you thought, well, it's a great subject, Paul, but you didn't quite tackle this bit, let me know, because I'd love to tackle every part of it and let's share what we know. And that's the whole point. Even if you share the maths to somebody, they might just go up and go, you know what? Fuck it, I'm gonna do it, too. You might get a buddy, you might find a, a club that does these things, you know, get together, and you then suddenly find there's so many more people that are on your wavelength. And if you're lonely, guess what? When you do things like that, you find people just like you. Not lonely people, by the way. I mean, people have your own interest, maybe love inside. Anyway, please do share. Share what you know. And we always say, if you share what you know, then you'll know what you know, whether you need to know a little bit more. And if you would just share this episode, because it just makes everything that little bit better. It's like, pay it forward. And of course, in the time honoured fashion of personal development, unplugged. You have to do one more thing. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to have more fun than you can stand doing all of this. Because if you do this with fun, by the way, in your heart and a smile on your face, you will smash it even faster. Bigger, brighter, better. There you go. So have more fun than you can stand and fly, my friend. Until next time, it's Paul. I'll see you real soon. Bye bye. Warning. You are now leaving the unplugged mind of Paul Clough. It's time to fly on your own. Be brave, my friend. Personal development unplugged. Be Careful What You Practice You might forget what you are practicing and find the results not to your liking. This little 5-minute FMQ muse was inspired by listening to Denzil Washington correcting a reporter if he practices telling untruths that's what you will end up doing as a habit. You see, we often get confused thinking practice makes perfect and it certainly doesn't. Also, we have to practice consciously - which we don't. All the more reason to be careful if you want the results you dream of and I know you do because you wouldn't be here. Let's go make this clear by pressing play and then sharing to help others practice what they desire https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/fmq-439-be-careful-what-you-practice There's a video of me for the FMQ here at YouTube https://youtu.be/nBSvUt1Zq1o Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. How Do I Compare To Others And why is it so BS when I do (it wrong)? Another listers question having trouble with this - comparing ourselves to others and feeling bad. And an apology there are a couple of swear words in this episode - sorry they just slipped out and I do think keeping them in is appropriate and deliberately a little shocking I think we all have issues with comparing to others and I want to share my personal experiences, yup plural, and what happened. The thing is we only see the outside of people, their showreels, and I know you and I never get to compare against how they really are. and if we did it might be a different result to our emotions. I will take you on an audio adventure of who to compare to and use that comparison to make your life better every day, week, month, and year. I'll also share how to compare to others that work too. Oh, am I a sharer. :O) Talking of sharing here's a link to share this episode with others if they haven't a podcast app https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/383-how-do-i-compare-to-others/ I hope you enjoy and if I have shared something you didn't know that's GREAT! What's this all about? Well, it's a question that was raised by one of you about comparing to others and feeling bad. And, that is so bs. And I want to show you how, why and what to do about it and to feel the joy and love in the world. And, I know feeling joy and love in the world is so important to everyone to have a listen after these next 15 or so seconds. Warning, warning. Warning. Warning. You are entering into the unplugged mind of Paul Clough. Clough. Too late. Personal development unplugged. So you're back for a bit more. Hey, pleased to have you with me. And I compare thee to a summer's night, summer's dream. I don't know what that was, but. It's all about comparing ourselves to others. Isn't that what we do Since I put the shortest newsletter out I could the other week, I got a question from one of the listeners. One of the, one of our listeners, one of you, one of the three of you out there asked another question. And it's all about comparing ourselves, to others. And guess what? Feeling bad. Isn't that what we do? Isn't that what we do? So I want to tell you a couple of stories. First, about comparing. I attended trainings in NLP when I was a practitioner First, about comparing. About comparing. Now, I might warn you now, I might swear a little bit in this. Maybe not. Maybe I'll be so articulate that I won't swear. But who knows? We'll see. Anyway, back in the days of my trainings in NLP, not the ones I did or I gave, but the ones. I attended when I was a practitioner. Or learning to be a practitioner and learning to be a master practitioner. And you see, at the end of. One room, of the room we were. Doing the training in, there was a table. And it was the table I loved. The most because it was the book table. And, when you're into hypnosis and. NLP, as much as I was, you. Just wanted to read and take in everything you could, especially the yellow books. I don't know why yellow books, but yellow books always seemed to be more attractive to me. And they just did. They just did. And I bought a book every month. Every month. But then I'd talk to a few people and they go, oh, I've read that. Oh, it's a really great book. Yeah, I've read that too. Oh, I know all about that one. I know that one and I know that one. And they would come out with all these, and that's the one side of NLP I'm not 100% with sometimes is the bloody wording. Sometimes the wording is a bit complicated, sometimes I think it's a little bit. Up our ass, but I know what. It's trying to do. But, hey, but they were using words. That just didn't make sense. And I used to sit there thinking, they know so much. Compared to me, I know nothing. They know so much. I'm going to tell you what happened to them in a minute, but not yet. You see, also in those trainings, and not just those trainings, even my hypnosis training, the trainings, I've gone to see other people watching demos and, a demo is. We're going to show you a process. We'll talk through a process. Now, has anybody got this type of problem? Come up on the stage and we'll. Get rid of it by using this process and we'll demonstrate the process. And, then you're all going to go away as practitioners and go and practice that as an exercise. And I used to watch those demos with the biggest eyes and a mouth dropped open, watching the skill of that trainer. And it was every trainer they just. Seemed to master being able to find a root cause, be able to, I. Don'T know, it was like, steer their way through. It was if that process just homed in. And I used to think, compared to me, I, don't know if I'm. M even going to be able to do the process. I would never, never, ever in a. Million, million bloody years be able to do that. I never would. And, also in my clinic have. These lovely clients come in, lovely people. And some of them, when you look. At them and you see them drive up in their bloody great big cars. Huge cars, lovely cars, and you just. Know they're in brackets, whatever that bracket is, successful. They look like they have it all. And I'm thinking other, bloody hell, you. Come in here, you've got it all. But I knew that. I know that's just silly self talk. Because yet inside they were racked with. All sorts of emotions, trauma, maybe they. Were suffering from emotions, but from a deep grief, guilt and the anxiety and the fears that came from that, the effects were there, but it was like as if they didn't show it on the outside, they didn't show it. Paul says he often compares himself to famous people on social media See, another thing, another thing. You might believe this or you might. Not, but I've got some friends. I got a couple of friends. And yes, I do. I'm not fibbing, I'm not bragging, I'm not bragging, I'm not bigging myself up because I've got a couple of friends. But I've got a couple of friends. And on the outside they seem so confident. They always seem bloody happy. They're laughing and they're joking, and they always seem to be flittering around and just having a great time with lots of different people. Always having a, having a joke, always. Having a bit of a laugh. They look absolutely as if they're killing. It in a good way. But when we talk by ourselves, one to one, they admit to being anxious. About things, anxious about their business. They're scared of, things that are happening in their life. They're worried. Isn't that strange? Yet I compare them myself to them. They tell such wonderful stories. They're always alive and soul of the party. And there's me old, little old introvert in that corner. Yes, they're my friends, but I'm the little one in the corner. And I'm big boy little one in the corner. I'm not big. I'm, Tall. Not big big, but tall, tall, tall. Paul. And I compare. I wish. But then when I do hear them. Talk about their anxieties, their fears, what they're scared about, m kept that hidden. And there's a lot of funny people. I don't mean funny, weird funny. I would keep making myself laugh this morning, and it is this morning. And I don't know why I said that either. But there's a lot of comedians, people who make people laugh for a living. You hear about them being so depressed. So depressed when they close the doors. And become alone and you compare yourself. To them, you think they're having a lovely, they're having such a great life, always seeing them laughing, joking, being interviewed. Yeah, I wish I could be like that. You think? But then it's only when they open. Up do you notice that they're really depressed. even famous people who, you think are smashing it out the park, living the life. Well, some people think they're living the. Life, but they've lost all their friends because of the fame. They're not allowed to do anything. But when you see them, they're strutting around. And yet some of them commit suicide. And even their closest friends would never guess. Well, cloughy, I think we're going on the dark side. We don't want to go the dark side, you see? Where are we bloody going? Where the nearly saw. Where are we going? Because the thing is, each one of. Those little stories, and, they're all true, aren't they. It's not about comparing with others, because you can't. How can you compare with others when. You don't know what the inside is? You don't know what's going through their heads. You don't know they're experiencing or what they're experiencing and how they're feeling it. And what they've lost and what they're going through. You're seeing their bloody show reels. We talk about, know, on Facebook and all that other social media toss, people showing their show reels. And some even, well, they are made up. I even knew of one guy who, when he went on holiday, just to show everybody the weather was so, so wonderful, he'd get someone to take his photograph with. He'd take, he's there in his little. T shirt, smiling like anything. He actually told me, as soon as. That photograph's taken, I have to put. A jumper and me coat on because. It'S so bloody cold. It's just sunny. It was so cold. But I just wanted to show people. And you think, wow, that's deception. And it is. It's just people having show reels, how. Wonderful their bloody life is. And you see it everywhere, don't you? And then we compare against it. And what the fuck are you doing doing that for? Said I might swear, and it just came out. So what or who should we compare to? Have a think about that, just for a second or two. Who or what should we compare to? Have a guess. I'll tell you. I'm going to swear now. It's fucking you. When we're planning our week ahead, look back at what happened in the week before That's the only person we can compare against. We have right now. The most brilliant opportunity to learn and keep being the best us, there is in this world. The unique you, the unique me. There is never a better opportunity for. You right now to learn to be and keep being the best you. And why is it the best opportunity? Because you're bloody here. You're breathing, you're above ground. Who knows that thing. You wake up in the morning, another day above ground, it's going to be brilliant. And all you have to do is. Compare yourself with yourself. Review yourself with who you were yesterday. Maybe last week, maybe go back a. Month, maybe the whole year. and I suggest you do each one of those. You should be looking back at yesterday and going, can I be a little bit better today? Should, at the end of the week, should we should all over ourselves. But we could, at the beginning of. A week, look back at the. When we're planning our week ahead, look back at what happened in the week before? And how can we make this next week even better? Look back at the whole month. What did we achieve? How far have we've come? And how can we make that even better? How come we can just grow just. That little bit more and grow, I mean grow with joy, not just slogging. Away at learning now grow to be the best version of ourselves. You know that then maybe at. One time you might look over the. Whole year, what goals did I have a year ago? And they'll change month by month, won't they? Because every year, a month by month is another year in a month ahead. What goals did I have a year ago? What have I achieved? What have I done? What have I met? What do I still want to do? How can I make it better for. The whole next twelve months after that? And then you can be start thinking, what can I learn from all of. That to be better, happier, happier with. More joy and love? And I'm getting soppy there. Giving love is the only pure, pure emotion. The number one emotion, love. There is no other really emotion. They're all derivatives from love. That's what I believe, apart from the shit stuff. And we can be a little bit soppy because I don't know about you, I'd like and love a life a. Daily, every day would be filled with joy and love. Yeah, maybe it's not always going to be that way, but if I can strive to do that, it'll be better. Than it could have been, should have been, because I've made it better. And you might even want to think, well, if I'm comparing myself in the past, how about comparing myself in the bloody future? How do I want to be? I know I want that joy. I know I want that love. But what can I do tomorrow? So I'm a little bit today, so I'll make tomorrow a little bit more. Of a stride, test, a stretch so I can strive to be better. That happened today. And I'm going to strive to be better than yesterday. What about next week? How do I want to be next week? How do I want to be next month? How do I want to be next year? Because, they're like your goals for. The future, aren't they? And it's how do you want to feel and what are the emotions you want to generate and feel and give and receive? It's just go on emotions to start off with. Because if you can live your life really feeling the emotions that you really. Want and get them better and more. Intense each day, each week, each month, each year. The things you'll be doing will be absolutely fucking awesome. They will. I do apologize by the swearing, but it's just me. So instead of comparing against all that other toss, this is where you compare. Take time out to review this. Literally, with wonderful intention This is where you grow. This is where you feel good and. Take time out to review this. Literally, with wonderful intention. Take your ten minutes out and say stuff. Everybody. For me, this is my ten minutes. I just want to review and see how good I bloody am and how good I can be. Even better or better. I could be even gooder or whatever it is. And then start to visualize feeling that way. Maybe there are one or two things you're going to be doing behavior wise. That will make you feel that way. If you did it just the way. You want, if the outcome was just the way you wanted it, or even. Better than you wanted it. Because you're really not that intelligent enough. And nor am I, by the way, to really imagine how much we can have, because you need to let yourself go, like with the imagination of. With childlike qualities. Imagine you could have anything. How would that feel? Because it's that feeling. And, the thing is, you see, when it comes down to it, there's only one bloody person who can be you. You. All those other people, they're not you. So why are you comparing them with. You think that's another one, isn't it? That's a little bit of a reframe. Why are you comparing with others who are not you? Because you don't know what's going inside their head. You don't know their experiences. You don't know what's happening. Now. Instead of comparing though, those show reels can be motivating, can't they? Because I guess in some ways you're seeing those people at, their very, very, very best. Forget all the shit that was in the background. They appear to be having a great time doing what they love. And we can model the good bits. Of that, but not the way they. Do it, but get that to influence and inspire you to put it into your visualization. So see yourself doing things similar and noticing as you do. Just the old thing we've been doing here so many times in every. Not every episode, but most episodes. Seeing yourself out. I say that again and slow down, cloughy. See yourself over there doing the things. You want to do, experiencing the things. You want to be and have and feel. And then add those little skills that you've seen in other people's show reels. Maybe it's that smile. Maybe it's that welcoming just being body language. Maybe, just those little bits that you could add to the way you behave will make. And then you'll get that feeling. Now, the one thing about this, and. I know you're going to say, oh. No, cluffy, please don't say, write it down. Yes. Because you see, if you just think about this stuff, thinking is good, doing is better. because you can think about that forever. But if you don't do it, then it's waste of time. And I want to do a longer. Podcast on that bit. And I don't like butts either. You need to be able to put this down into some form of writing so you can remember it. Even if it's not fully fledged sentences. It's not a book, it's not chapters, it's that. But just get like, I call it a puzzle book. Things that you're going to work through. So you might just notice one or two skills that you like, just throw. Them down on a piece of paper. Because then you can go back to it. So when you're imagining and envisualizing yourself in the future, being able to have those experiences, you can look at that puzzle book and go, ah, add in those couple. You might call it a dream book. I actually had a load of dream books printed of something I, I created, myself. And it just seemed to work a little bit. Maybe you call them idea books, basically. Puzzles, dreams, ideas, goals, thinking books, whatever you want. Get a bloody book. And a book could be a piece of paper, by the way, just a book sometimes is nice to hold. Nice colored pens. I have a thing about colored pens. But the thing is, you write all those things down, that's pretty awesome. But there's one more thing to do. Do the bloody work. We've talked about that on an FMQ. The only mind hack is to do the work. So when you start visualizing and you start seeing the things you want to pull into your life or how you want to feel, because you can think of how I want to feel, but. You might forget about it. Write it down in that puzzle book, that dream book, that idea book, and. Then do the work by visualizing it and then setting a target, a goal to go do it. And you'll be amazed when you look back over yesterday. Go, shit, that was good. Look back over the week. Wow, I had some good times in there. That's a little bit. I was learning processes before I became a practitioner of NLP I tripped up, but I got up and cracked it and smashed it. Look back over the month things are happening. God, this year, next year, I can keep doing this. You'll be amazed, absolutely amazed, because you remember those NLP guys who knew everything. They knew absolutely everything on that book. They knew everything in the manual. They knew absolutely everything. In fact, they'd been doing it for bloody years. And when I compared themselves to me at that time, I thought, well, I don't know hardly anything. But then I found out when I. Asked some things, I asked some questions, because I was working with clients, I still wasn't a practitioner yet. I've been doing my hypnosis and hypnotherapy, but I hadn't been a practitioner of NLP, so I didn't know all the processes, but I was learning them before I actually got taught them, if that makes sense. I was reading books and, learning the processes and modeling them before I even got to become a practitioner. And I was doing it with clients, see, doing it with clients, not doing it on clients, doing it with clients. And I would ask them questions, I've got a little bit of an issue, I'm not quite so sure. And they said, well, no, we don't work with clients. Oh, no, I can't do that. They couldn't bloody do the work. They couldn't do what they know. And then there was those trainers I used to compare myself to. They were wonder. Each trainer I've been with, I've been so lucky that every trainer I've. Been with, they have imparted so many wonderful skills. They were so lovely towards me. And when I compared myself to them, I used to think I put them on a pedestal on a stage. And literally, they used to be on. A stage, but I put them on that pedestal thinking, you're so skilled, how. You do this in front of people, you can do a process, you can teach a process, you can change people. And not change people, but get people. To change by using a process, finding root causes, not just working on effects. And really getting this done. And then I remember years later what. It really hit me years later, sitting. On a stage in an auditorium in. Front of about 120 people with my. Son sitting beside me, just watching someone. From the audience doing demos and realizing. Well, I've been bloody doing this for. A few years now. And I didn't know what the problem. Was going to be. I just knew the process. And it was so wonderful, buddy, how I can do that. I am doing that. I'm working with clients now. I've been working with clients for bloody donkeys years now. But being able to sift through and sort through and find their core issue, not just working on the effects, because when you work on effects, the effects. Just keep coming back, I think. But working on the core issue, the thing that once disappeared, will let all. Those effects go and letting it go in that moment. well, I'm doing that too. And, the thing is, I didn't. Notice any of that bloody stuff because. I was too busy doing it being me. And it didn't happen overnight like that. It happened daily, it happened weekly, it happened monthly, it happened annually. See, you knew. You thought I was going to say yearly, showing my use of the english. Language and how to articulate, but just being busy. Yes, I used a lot of it. By modeling them, taking their good bits. Okay, there's those people. They could learn from books. So I learned. I modeled how they learned and then put it into practice to do the work. Those wonderful trainers modeled how they talked. How they moved, how they talked, how they. How. They just got people to feel so relaxed and be so confident in the process. And now I. Because when you first start, you think, I wonder if it's going to work. I really wonder. I bet it didn't work. And sometimes you were afraid the very early days to test the work with your clients, you'd want to get them out the door really quickly, thinking, I'm not going to ask me if it. Worked, but now test the ass off it. You really want to know that that client in front of me has got what they want? No fudging. And, yes, there's always going to be more because I'm thinking about, how. Good was I yesterday? And sometimes those yesterdays weren't so good. Even now I can think of a. Couple of days ago, and I think it was yesterday that far away. Well, I wasn't quite so good, but I got to be better, got to. Get up, got to move on, because I can always strive to be even better. And, what I thought of when I was thinking about all of this. Just think, if you weren't here, you wouldn't be you. So just be grateful for being here, being you. Me being me, not you. Be grateful for me. I'm grateful for you for being here and seeing you change, seeing you get the dreams and achieving everything you want, but just being grateful for being who. We are in this world, in this. Life, living, being we've. We've. We've been given a bloody life to live. Every week, every month, every year, we can support others So don't use it by caring it, comparing it to other bloody people. And he said idiots didn't mean that. Be so grateful that we were born. To live this life and do something. With it, create something with it. And if we can really be ourselves, strive to be our best every day. Every week, every month, every year, we can support others. And if we put the two together, if we can be the best version ourselves and support others and do it like selfless service, not wanting anything in return, knowing that the law, reciprocity, reciprocity will come and dump good stuff on us anyway. So you just have to do it. It's going to be a great life. And all you got to do is model, strive to be better and compare yourself to you. Because I made a few notes around this. What do I want to tell you? Basically, there's only one you, so that's. The only you you can bloody be. And if you can be the best. Version of you every day, maybe, not that you think, I could have been. Better yesterday, and I know I could have done, but it was the best I was doing. I wasn't doing anything to purposely bugger. Things up, I just buggered things up. And how do I want you feel? I thought, how do I want you. My friend, to feel? And it was really simple. I just saw a little voice coming out saying, well, I'll do it, then I'll be me. And if I could just get you. To think, okay, then I'll do it. No, okay, I'm going to be me. And I thought to myself, why is this all so important? And it was that last little bit. Because we're on this world for a bloody reason. We've been given the opportunity and we should be grateful for it. And when we're really grateful, that's where. The love comes from, I think. And the thing is, we all have this bloody thing about comparing to. Others, so let's use the skill of comparing, but use it to compare against. Us and feel gratitude and feel grateful, and just to expand the love and the joy. Gonzop, you again. Cluffy. I know, there you go, comparing to other. How do I compare to others is the title of this blooming old podcast. And the answer is, you bloody don't. Do you. Think of that saying, just coming to mind, be the change you want to see in others. Be the change you want to see in yourself. Well, if you can be the change you want to see in others and change you want to be in yourself, you become that model for other people to follow, follow in the way that. They choose the good bits from you. And you get to choose the good bits from them. And the world becomes a happy place. Hopefully it gets more happier, more joy, more love. There you go, my friend. I do appreciate your time with me. I, would love you to share this. You know that I always love people to share this work that we do, because I think it means, well, to me, it's really important. It really is important. I often wonder why I do it, but I know I'm doing it for me because I'm talking to myself. A lot of this is all about. It's all directed to me. And you get the benefit if there is a benefit. But I'm really talking to you, too. Talking to you. The unconscious mind. Your unconscious mind. So if you would share it, it will make things so much better. And if you could subscribe, follow, maybe even leave a little bit of. Don't. Don't worry about leaving little notes on websites you could if you wanted to, but don't worry about it. But if you could just subscribe, follow and bloody share, you would be paying it forward like there's no tomorrow and there is a tomorrow. Well, the times a construct, so tomorrow's today when it comes in. So have so much more fun than you can stand and share it with others. Ask me a question. Dealing With Anger PART 1 Another episode based on a listener's email telling of their battle with anger and how the effects were ruining every part of their life. And I know this is not an isolated issue having worked with clients with debilitating anger. It affects most of us to some degree or other and it is not, I beleive, acceptable in any way and yes I too have and do work on this. I have split this between two episodes, so they are just the right size to get it and the work on it. Even if you say to yourself Well I'm not an angry person - you don't have to be angry all the time to work on it - deal with the snowball before it grows bigger as it slowly rolls down the hill - nip it in the bud. The stories I share are of real people and how quickly they were able to let go of their anger and the effects when they did. And you won't have to wait long for the second episode as I've swapped it with the next FMQ. It's so important to learn about the negative emotions in our lives and how we can deal with them quickly and comfortably so please share this episode - you will never know how far the effect of doing so will travel. https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/376-dealing-with-anger-part-1/ Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. Heads up to the longer podcast. It's another listener question, and it's about dealing with anger, excessive anger, anger that is really destroying a person's life and the people in their life. We're going to go through that. I'm going to give you some stories, true stories, of what can be achieved easily, and effortlessly, and also a process that you can use. So get a pen and paper. Yes, it means writing, but do that because it's so important. So have a listen after this little intro, and then we'll get right into it. Oh, and I forgot, I've decided to split this up into two sections. I'm not going to leave you hanging. So it goes over a week to week, because I think it's important that once you start the process, you dive straight into it and you keep that motivation. But it was a long recording and I wanted you to get the basics. And, then in the second recording, actually sit down and work through the process so there's no distractions, no tiredness, no laziness. Say laziness. But I mean trying to put putting things off. You can actually concentrate and focus for that shorter period of time. And really home in onto that process or processes, because it's a process, but processes, they're all together. So bear with me because this is important. So, first part is setting the foundations, setting the scene, starting off the stories, and then part two will be getting into the process and, well, completing the stories. I hope, that's okay with you. And I say I won't keep you hanging. The next episode will be in the next couple of days or so. Okay. Hello. Hello. The longer podcast from personal development unplugged is about anger The longer podcast from personal development unplugged is with me, Paul, and I have another question, a, listener's question. So, one of the five or so listeners who are with you listening here. And it's all about bloody anger. Anger. I think we all get anger of some degree or another, don't we? But sometimes anger can be a real swearing, a real nightmare, a, ah, nightmare for the people who have the anger, and a nightmare for the people who have to suffer it along around them. So, anger has so many negative effects. It's a negative emotion. In my mind, it's a completely negative emotion and has no benefit. I've argued that for quite a few times, because some people think anger actually motivates them, and it can do, and I'll give you a story about that. But I don't think it's the best, emotion if you want motivation. But sometimes if you got it, you just got to maybe use it until you find a better way. You see, I know of people who have really suffered, really suffered with anger and the effects, and it's ruined their lives or it ruined their life at the time, because I've also seen it disappear in, in one case, literally minutes within one session. And that was when the time was right, the process was right. And I guess two people in the right place, because this was a long time ago, a long time ago, one of my early days, early days seeing clients. And this guy came along and said, I've got this terrible, terrible anger. It's so bad that my doctor has told me I need to find some type of psychological help, which is why I've come to you. Because everything within my body physically is going downhill, and in time, it will actually kill me. Oh, blimey, Riley. I thought to myself, this is a biggie. And I said, okay, well, we can do. Sure, I'm sure. Let's just start talking. He said, now, before you do that, I just want to make sure you can, if you're any good, because I said, let's have a look. He said, well, I want you to stop me smoking. Help me stop smoking. If you can help me stop smoking, then I'll trust you with this biggie. And I said, well, maybe the smoking is helping you. Every behavior is a positive intent, just like the anger. But maybe that smoking is helping you deal with the anger. And if we take that away, he said, no, no, I want to see how good you are. So we did it. And he came back, said, yeah, that's fine, dandy. Let's talk about this anger. You see, let's look at anger as secondary Let's talk about this anger. He said, it's so bad. As I said, my body is closing down on myself. My son, who used to live with me, can't stand me. So he's left my daughter, who's just about to have my first granddaughter. She's said, I'm not welcome. Not welcome to see her and have her new family when it comes, because of the way I've been said, I really need help. And, I'm not going to tell you this. I don't normally ask, about what's happening. I was bit inquisitive, but he told me, and, I'm not going to share that with you because it was just, it was a very, very emotional story. But his anger was so much that the voice inside his head was so loud all the time that these were the days of like the, Walkmans with a CD disc you put in and, what have you. He used to have it on turn out of ten in volume. So, you know, here, trying to drown out the noise in his head. That's how bad it was. And we did one process, it was just the right process just for him. Oh, there's a funny noise. And then, you see, it was all a matter of learning, learning at the unconscious level, not the conscious level. But we can do some learning at the conscious level because we're going to do it here today. But you see, it reminded me of somebody else who I really look up to. And there's a guy called Jeff Thompson. He used to be a bouncer. Not a nice man at that time, and even tell you he was not a nice man. And he said he used to get really, really angry because of the things that he'd suffered in the past that had in some ways not made him, but had created this man with, armor. He had tattoos and things like that. He had armor and he was like a doorman and he was in a really tough area and he excelled at that. But he said when he let that go and started to do other stuff and became very spiritual, he said he was still angry. But he would use that anger, and he would find a vehicle. Well, that was a vehicle, but he would find a destination, something that he could use that anger to a positive, effect. So not being angry and shouting at people, he would actually use that energy, the energy within him that was so volatile to do some wonderful things. And I even saw it, on my son's, Joseph's very first NLP training. There was a guy there, we were letting go of anger. It was just a topic on timeline therapy. And he came up to the stage to do the demo. We weren't quite sure because we never quite sure the background, but he found out that he had been holding on to anger for over 20 years, and it was still inside him, it still affected him. And in that demonstration, which was minutes, not hours, well, I'll tell you later. You see, let's look at anger, because for me, I say it's, a negative emotion. It's totally inappropriate in my mind. It serves no benefit. I'm sure it has a positive intention, I know, and the unconscious mind uses it. But to me, there's better emotions, better behaviors to use. You see, I think it's secondary, and I've been taught that it's secondary because you have fight and flight as your hardwired protection measure. It's hardwired in your neurology. No one can take it away. Your unconscious mind clicks into fight or flight. I know there's a freeze in there, but sometimes. But fight and flight is there, and, that really protects you. See, why would you need anger to protect you? In fact, why would you need all the other negative emotions to protect you? Because they don't work. But it's what your unconscious mind has found that works. Way back then, when you first experienced something and got angry and, it protected you in some way, maybe kept people away, maybe somehow it looked after you and it thought, well, I can continue do this or continue to keep doing this, but it's not appropriate, because if you don't learn, you see, I remember, and this is what really convinced me, that anger as well as fear, they're both secondary emotions that come after fight and flight. See, I was walking my dog. Another story, true story, walking my dog, taz. Beautiful little dog. Little got, him from one of those home things. And he was about four when I got him, I think, bless him, and he was frightened of everything. And we got him m through that, and we used to go for lovely walks. And he was a little bit of like a sheepy type dog. So I'd walk down the middle of, this green open grassland and he would run round the outside and he loved it. And then we'd meet up in the middle and then we'd walk home and one day we're doing this, and there was two or three dogs suddenly ran out of the side and started attacking, attacking him. So fight and fly. I suddenly went shouting at them, yeah, get off, get off, get off. Yeah. And they did. But what I didn't see was the group of guys round the corner whose dogs they were. And they were either drunk or drugged or both. And they started coming for me. Now what are you doing? Shout out to my dogs now. Fight and flight. I could have tried to fight, but there was more of them. And to be honest, I didn't. I thought the best thing to do was to, flight to flight. So they couldn't walk very fast because they were a little bit jaggedy on their feet with whatever they'd taken. So I walked pretty fast and got taz with me and we moved pretty fast to get away from that. Then I got home and whether it's like an adrenaline dump or not, I don't know, but I suddenly got really angry. Angry. Why are those people? How can they be like that? How can they be so aggressive towards me? We were doing nothing. How can they be doing that? And I got so angry with myself. Why didn't I just suddenly stop and go, ra. And then the fear came in. Yeah, but what happened if they had knives or whatever, could have died, been attacked and killed. I got fearful about it. And then angry and fear. And they came after the fight. Flight. The fight and the flight protected me. Without thinking. It just happened. And then that anger and that fear started to, get inside me until I realized, do you know what? We did the right thing. We did the right thing. Find a therapist. What do you mean, find a therapist And maybe next time to be a little bit more observant and maybe go at different times and just keep an eye out. So I learned from that. Never had a problem again. So it was about learning. And then that anger and that fear just disappeared from that thing. But if it hadn't had done, maybe that would be like a significant emotional event. That's what we call these things in timeline therapy and NLP, a significant emotional event. And that could have caused me then to have those fear, either a fear or anger in other events in the future. Because my unconscious mind might thought, well, it worked, but it doesn't. So inappropriate. And they're totally in direct conflict with what your unconscious mind is trying to do, trying to protect you. But fear doesn't protect you, as we said, because it's bloody frightening. Anger doesn't protect you because you don't see, you see red. But if you're aware you're calm in a way that you can access the true skills that you need, that's what protects you. Being comfortable, being able to recognize a situation and act appropriately, that's protection. And you see, I believe all these negative emotions, such as anger, have a starting point. Again, as we said, significant emotional event an see, and it needs learning from. And once you learn, you won't need the emotion and the behavior anymore because you have learned and that what your unconscious mind was thinking and acting and using as a protection measure is no longer appropriate because it's learned. It doesn't need it anymore because you've got what you need. And therefore, in the future, anything happened, you'll use the learnings and they'll protect you. But the thing is, if you are finding, and, we're talking about anger and dealing with anger, but this could be, as you know, in brackets, any other bloody emotion, if it's really causing you extreme difficulty, then go to one to one. What do you mean, one to one? Cloughy. What I mean is find a therapist. Find a therapist. One to one. I know there's a lot of adverts about, you can do it by text, you can do it by phone. Have you ever tried to read the emotion in, a text? Sometimes even on the phone, you can get the emotion, but you can't see the face, and you don't know whether it's a joke or it's being serious. So I really believe if you can, one to one, whether it's on Zoom or whether it's in with the therapist, face to face, ideally face to face, because I love that, but for other people. But find that brilliant therapist, and it'll go really quickly, just as I said, goes quite easily. And you see, but what you can do, because even if you are going to look for a therapist or you're working with a therapist right now, what we're going to do now will not do any harm. It will, I believe, assist you to move on even quicker. Paul Cluff: Get ready for part two of the NLP process Okay, so that's where I'm going to end this episode or this, portion of the episode. This part one I want you to, if it's okay, is to just consider in your mind how important it is to you to let go of this negative emotion, to let go of the associated behaviors, to let go of the effects both to yourself, to, the people around you, to maybe your job, friends, family, even little old planet earth is not getting the best out of you, is it? And if that's really important to you, I know that it is. You can begin to set your intention. Set, your intent. Say that again. Set your intention for. I'm going to do this. I really am. I'm going to get a pad, maybe some. Just some paper, some pencil. Some pencil. some pencil. Get a pencil. Pen, because you're going to need it in the second part. And it's not big stuff, but you're going to need it, because when we start doing the process, we're going to start making notes that you can refer to. And it's important that you do, because once you start the process of putting things on paper, you will get inspired to write more. Not volumes, tombs, as they call them, I think, or tomes, but you'll get intuition, I think. And certainly in the second part of the process, you can build upon it, even, to make things even richer. I'm, not going to tell you what they are or what it means, but you will get inspired. I know. So have just a little muse and decide. This is it. I've had enough. This anger in brackets, any other bloody thing, closed brackets, is no longer serving me. And I want to find a better way. I want to find a better way. And I'm prepared to do whatever it takes. And, whatever it takes is literally not that much. So if that's okay, we're going to stop here and just collect your thoughts, maybe, and get ready. Get ready for part two, where we'll go into the process of, letting things go. Hope, this makes sense. I recorded it all in one go, and then I just had this, the intuition of saying, do you know what? I think we got to do it slightly different. So that's what we're going to do. Okay? So until next time, my friend, get ready, get inspired. I've got this, I get to do this. I'm going to have the will to do whatever it takes to change, change my life and create a rich life. Okay, there you go. I see you very soon. bye bye now. Oh, just before you go, just a re reminder, that if you want, to access any of the free hypnosis and NLP process tracks that I have, there's about 60, 65 of them I was looking at the other day and covers such a myriad of different things. FMQ 427 Review Not Resoluting or should it resolution? If you have listened to this podcast for a while you will know I am not a big fan of New Year's Resolutions, in fact not a fan at all. Why? Because to try to make changes by tradition on one day of the year which are almost doomed to fail seems like a waste. Especially when we have 365 days in most years to create positive changes in our lives and can do it every one of those 365 (that's forgetting leap years). So in this 5-Minute Quickie, I give you something to muse (and do) that I think beats NYR's hands down. Come with me and let's muse and notice the difference that I suggest could make in your personal development, which is why you're here I guess. Oh!

And this is an FMQ, a five-minute quickie podcast which never lasts five minutes. It always goes a little bit longer. But it's a chance for you and me just to muse to think of a subject to talk about it for a few minutes and then spend time thinking. Seeing how it would change our life if we maybe developed it a little deeper. And maybe sometimes these five-minute quickies will go into a longer podcast where we can dive deeper and produce processes, hypnosis processes and NLP processes. Don't worry about the names. There's just processes for making our life and your life absolutely better. Getting rid of anxiety and fear. All those other hang-ups and issues that we have. I make dreams come into reality quicker, bigger, better than you ever dream of. But they're the longer podcast and this is a five-minute quicky where we break down. The complicated into simple because in simplicity there's genius and that's what we do here. So if you want to just think for a while. See what happens. See what resonates inside you. And when it does, you go change the world. This is personal development unplugged with Paul Clough. In simplicity there is genius. Hey you, how are you doing, my friend? And it's all about sort of mind reading. To be clever? Yeah, you do. And you probably do it when you don't know that you're doing it. I'll give you an example. I'm doing something and there's a few people around me. And I'm getting a little bit nervous because I think you're looking at me. I think they're looking at me. I don't really look at them too much. So just in case they are looking at me. But I feel they're looking at me. And I know what they're looking at me. And I know what they're thinking. They're thinking, oh look at him. Look at him. You can't do that. What's he doing there? Oh, can't have him here. We'll find him out. That's what we're going to do. And even more. And you can even make some pictures in your mind. But you think that they're making of you. And you know what? That's the biggest load of all tosh that you can ever do because you can't mind me. But I can mind read better than that though. You see, do you know what they're actually thinking? Those people who are looking at me, looking at you? So I tell you what they're thinking? They're thinking. I want you to always think about me. I bet he's thinking I shouldn't belong here. I bet I bet he's thinking that I'm not good enough. I shouldn't be here. Yeah, that's it. I shouldn't be here because I'm getting anxious. And he knows I'm anxious. That's what he's thinking. So that's the biggest load of 12, which I was because they're thinking, what you're thinking. And they're not thinking about you. You're thinking about what I'm about you and they're thinking about you about them. So when you're thinking what are you thinking about me, they're not at all. They're thinking about themselves. Or about you thinking about them. And they're making it up too. And they're making that as one of the pictures in them. And they're getting anxious. They're getting fearful. They're getting that old imposter syndrome. I don't belong here. I'll get found out. And you're doing it all by yourself, believing it's to be other people's thoughts. But you're a mind reader, not. And the thing is if they did have an opinion about you, guess whose business it isn't? You're a system of your business if they have an opinion about you because it's theirs. They can keep it. They can stuff it. It's not making any difference to you, is it? I know my son has just, as I told you before, has this mind mastery group. And they have like a little manifesto. And in one of those things, one of the points of that manifesto is, it says, others' opinions are not about me is not my business. And that's exactly right. They're none of your business. Because once they were, they found it on, they're not found it on anything at all. There's no data. There are no facts. They're just if they do have an opinion. And the thing is, it doesn't matter, because you can prove by your actions, how you hold yourself in alignment, in congruency, love you with congruency, being who you really are, being the best version of you stretching to be an even better, best version of yourself, to be the change you want to see in others, and to show people what's possible. And it doesn't have to be like the supersonic, Olympic gold medalist performance, or the show reels you see on bloody Facebook, But no, show them your best real, in real life. As we call it, really, in real life, show them the best version of yourself today. And if they have an opinion, it's not your business, but they have a good opinion. And guess what? The only thing they'll be thinking about you is,I wonder what drives them on. I wonder how much they've learned. A wonder, could I be this good as that? But I think I can, because if they can do it, I can do it. You inspire people that way. Inspire people to, again, stretch to be the best version of yourself, without mind reading the talk, because that mind reading just takes that negative on my life. Just takes your energy. It's that energy because it means nothing to you. It'll then give you anxiety. And it's anxiety based on nada, nothing. It's your own fears coming through. Your own worries. And then where are they? Where are those worries? They're in your bloody head. They're not outside. So you just push them away and go, do you know what? What's better than worry? And that silly form is, I'm just going to access it. My best skills. I'm going to set my intention to be the best version of me. And I love the best version of you. but whatever you do is the best version of that very moment, but when you set your intention to be the best version of you, Man, I love it. I could be there with you. Sitting beside you, you wouldn't see me. But if you could read my mind, I'd be going hell yeah. I love it, I'll go. They are an inspiration. Yeah, they're not doing anything special, special, but they're just doing things special. Because they're special. I hope that's something that you would like to think about over your cup of coffee, your beer, your tea, your glass of water, sitting where you sit, standing wherever you stand. Just a muse. And realize those thoughts that I talked about in the beginning of that mind reading, that you can let go of, you let go of even thinking about others' opinions, and just have your own opinion of yourself. Your own intention to stretch yourself, to be the best version of you. Because that's what we're here for in-person development, unplugged. And I support you in anywhere I can. And if you do need any help and support, you know what to do, just email me. feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugged.com, and I'll bang out on episode for you, and I'll send you an email. I'll guide you. and I'll carry on doing it. And we can have more fun than you can stand. And let me know. I'll see you real soon. This was a five-minute quickie, and it's time to fly.

How To Live Today Following on from the last FMQ and based on a question we should or could ask ourselves every day. As you look back over your day and ask "Did I live today?" And I've had a little bit of a think - how we can make this question create more in the next days? I think you will like what I came up with using the natural phenomenon of generalization. I'm canceled What about you? Should I be canceled? should I cancel myself? Should you cancel yourself too? It's a dilemma of (stupid) proportions. If I wasn't offended by myself way back then should I, can I really and properly be offended now because back then was back then, and now is a different now? If we cancel the past how do we learn from it? Just a short and different FMQ made me think and maybe you will too. Does Fear Make You Feel Safe? That's what someone said! Really? What really does fear do for you? What's it's positive intention? Because your unconscious mind does nothing without a positive intention. But when the behaviour (FEAR) is now in conflict with your unconscious mind's intention and knows about the conflict I believe it has to change AND find a better way. We just need to help it find so many better ways. :O) It's only a 6 minute Five Minute Quickie to get you thinking and will, I have no doubt, lead to a longer #episode. Reset and Refresh - Right Now! And what would happen if you did If only we could feel differently, in the moment. Change how we feel to something different that is more appropriate. This was inspired by being in the gym and hearing something that just resonated and also seemed to endorse what we do and how we think here in the Unplugged world. And from what I heard got me thinking of how we could make it more powerful and then some. It takes stopping and pausing and experiencing the world like Da Vinci (something we did way back in FMQ 38) and incorporating a 'no mind' state and those perfect footprints in the sand as you center and settle. "Whoa! Cloughie" I hear you think "all that in just 20 minutes?" Come with me and spend some time, if it actually exists, to become in the center of time and experience a merging of states what really bring you in the NOW right now or whenever you want to return to the now. And.... It feels good too! Trust me, with your mind, and learn this awesome pattern interruption to feeling Anxiety, Fear, FOMO, Imposter syndrome, and a whole lot more. Please share what you hear to everyone you know, here's the link: https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/246-reset-and-refresh-right-now/ It will make a world of difference Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. A New Way To Journal and Being Vulnerable Recorded in/on the spur of the moment and I just had to share what I've learned whilst Journaling. But it's not just about that as in here's a new way (it probably isn't) but to describe the process I share with you my personal bit or story and what I discovered. It seems to be an extension, that I only saw just now, of the last FMQ. I see now this has been brewing in my mind for quite a long time and connects with my love of questions. Questions are easy, even good ones, but the answers are or have been for me, so much more difficult. The thing is you have to be hear/here, that is to say, you have to listen and if it floats your boat you have to use or adapt it simply knowing doesn't count without the use. I know this is pretty random and obscure but because I did this on the fly I want you to listen and not be affected by my words here. I'd love your feedback and also what you do differently to this so I can learn from you too so please email me feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugged.com and of course please share this to everyone you know and don't know, here's the link: https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/241-a-new-way-to-journal-and-being-vulnerable Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. When I'm 80 Now's the time to decide Listening to Jordan Petterson speaking he mentioned that what you do today, what you decide right now affects who you are when you're 80. Now that got me thinking. Yes, you are responsible for the ultimate cause and effect, and if you stopped for a moment, the stop and pause we/I talk about so much and think will I be proud of what I am about to do? Well, I can tell you it brought me right back into the now, this present moment. Why is it important to do stuff better 'Stuff' Being the technical word for Everything! Following on from the FMQ episode 331 How Good Can you get and be - because you don't know let's add to that with this deeper look 'HOW' you can actually learn to be better than you think you can. The bit that most fail to tell you when they show you the 'What' to do. And no this isn't the only way and it's not a secret way it's ways that you can learn and be able to do with a little effort. Yes, I know and hear "But do I really have to do this can't I just listen?" and the answer is - of course you can just listen=- if you want to stay the same or slide backwards - It's your choice But when you take just a little action you start the inertia, the movement and the motivation that just gets stronger as it gets easier. So come with me and be curious of what you may learn along the way and then share it along with this podcast episode https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/229-why-is-it-important-to-do-stuff-better learn from what you listen to and take intuitive action, the rest becomes history Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. Changing Your Limiting and Core Beliefs Can you? And should you? And How? Can beliefs be changed even if it's a core belief? The simple answer to that is a big fat yes - if it no longer serves you or you find it not to be true. A silly example is of a person who, in the past, used to 'be' a smoker but has stopped. In the past, they believed they were a smoker and now they believe they are not. I've put the be in ''marks for a reason, because their belief would have been "I am A smoker" describing who they are at an identity level by their behavior, which is what so many of us do but it isn't who we are, it's what we do, it's not our identity. Remember the last FMQ about labels? Have a listen if you haven't already and you will see how the labels we are given become our beliefs too. When working with clients I find nearly all have a core belief such as 'I'm not good enough' or 'I'm not worthy' and it affects all that they do and feel. When they disappear BOOM! Their whole life changes. If you think about the areas of your life that you want to succeed in but for some reason, you just keep 'failing' and feel bad, what belief do you have about yourself? Ooooooo! This is not a super long podcast episode so please take 20 minutes to come with me and we'll learn how to change beliefs and it does't have to take a long time. No One Listens A Five Minute Quickie Podcast Are you listened to but not heard? Just as importantly Do you listen and not hear? On the last podcast, I talked about letting our music out, the metaphor of our passions and visions even maybe our worries and thoughts. Isn't it just as important to really listen to that music of others and really hear what is being sung or said? And the same applies, I guess, to our song being heard too. Hopefully this short podcast will inspire you to open up your senses and really hear and be heard. Using the Superpower - Procrastination From the unplugged podcast of the personal development kind Ok, So we must be getting to the point of taking time seriously to start moving on our projects, goals, side hustles or ..... you fill in the blank And before you so call 'Self- Sabotage' ( Oh how I hate that term) we are going to use the very same thing that would normally de-rail you. What's that Cloughie? Well it's the Superpower we all have Procrastination So this is slightly left-field, whatever that means, outside the box and a way you probably don't use as a way to make sure you DO get things done. Give Praise to Succeed Yes, we're back with a new Five Minute Quickie podcast and a new thought about the future. Guess what? I was listening to the radio and an interview with a footballer telling of how receiving praise made him just want to play better for his manager. I thought Hey! Here's something that might be new to learn and share. But it wasn't. It was just what we have been advocating for years, no more feedback sandwich but fishes of praise and appreciation. Way back in December 2017 in FMQ 137 'Learning from Dolphins' I shared what I had learned about giving fishes and seeing something happen before your eyes. Why not listen t both and learn how to empower and motivate with ease. As usual, it follows the 'In simplicity there is Genius' philosophy we follow here and get the most from our energy investment = Happy Daze :O) Shine brightly Paul https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/?p=1733 Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. Knowledge is only a rumour This five minute podcast inspired by the brilliant Mark Devine in his podcast The unbeatable mind when interviewing Richard Strozzi-Heckler and the magical words were uttered: Knowledge is only a rumour until it's in the muscle This blew me away because it both resonated and reminded me of the way we, two of my three sons and I, teach NLP and Hypnosis. To get what we teach in the muscle and when you do you get to master your skills. Our definition, not sure where it came from, of mastery is: Do what you know and do what you know Hearing this interview reinforced that what I am doing is pointing both you and I in the right direction = pointing towards the pose ( a not too previous FMQ) and that my feeling of imposter syndrome (a 2 part longer podcast to come soon) continues to disappear. I hope this too inspires you to do what you know and know what you do so your knowledge grows along with your success because it just keeps getting in the muscle. From a voice to awesomeness I was reminded of a concept that I first encountered in my first NLP Practitioner training, again in my Trainers training and yet again in a Tim Ferriss podcast - you might recall FMQ 5 'The jar of awesomeness'. This time it was by a guy called Marcus Buckingham and how children in New Zealand had taken this concept and called it a 'Voice box' or more specifically My Voice box. The effect on these children and their schooling is nothing less than remarkable or Awesome!!!! And it's a process you can use for yourself and others of any age. Go on you have to listen now :O) It's also nice to know that what happens here is not some wacky out there stuff but processess that really help us improve our lives and those of others. I'm too OLD too YOUNG Just like we discussed in FMQ 256 another reason, or excuse as we call it out, for not investing in ourselves (yep I'm in here with you) is when we say: I'm too OLD too YOUNG And we seem to say this without thinking. Come with me and listen to my personal experiences and those of my youngest son, Joseph, in which we nearly fell into this trap. Once you do follow me down this rabbit hole you will never believe your age has anything to do with accomplishing anything. No More Excuses as there are no reasons not to go for it, do it and achieve it - whatever IT is? Learning by forgetting The 5 minute quickie podcast that actually lasts 18 minutes (sorry I got carried away) You don't know how much you don't know until you really begin to learn more and more and as you will know from FMQ 246 (you have listened to it haven't you?) your learning potential is limitless. Yet one of the problems of learning something new, well in my personal experience, is that I usually start with comparing what I already know to in the new information before I've really understand it. Do you find that the case with you? I hope I'm not the only one :O( The thing is that in order to add new stuff I think we need to 'park' what we know so we can LEARN NEWLY. We need to temporarily forget what we know already, other that to understand this new 'STUFF' (technical word for new stuff) so we can fully take on the learnings and only when we understand this new 'stuff' we compare it with what we already know. The thing is, this is so simple to say yet in reality can be difficult to do because of our biases already formed by the old ' stuff'. But let's remember what old Albie Einstein said "in simplicity there is GENIUS" and discover ways to do this parking of what we already know and to learn newly because as you know I will never leave you hanging without a 'how to'. I've also added in a suggestion from listening to a great guy Jim Kwik, if you haven't heard of him Google him or see his YouTube videos, which I think when added to my suggestions give a rich set of ways you can grow. I'd love to think you get more than one take away from this (and my other episodes) and would really appreciate your feed back on what they are and how they affected your life. Also constructive feedback on how I can improve or subject matter is so dearly sort from you. Another Ah Ha moment and I was listening If you have listened to FMQ 197 you will remember my struggle to listen and connect to my unconscious mind. Now I want share with you something that took this to another level - maybe when you listen to this personal experience you too may learn more about your connection to your best friend and listen more carefully. It all started when I got really motivated to get fitter and healthier and up my game in the gym. Then a series of things happened and I didn't see, hear or feel a connection - well feel may not be what I didn't understand and it was a painful experience. What happened was this ........................ well you will have to listen :O) Now all of this has made me want share one of my hypnosis tracks that you will not find anywhere else and may be the trigger or tipping point to understanding and being closer to your best friend, your unconscious mind and where that will lead you is up to you. When failure meets success A five minute podcast - the FMQ (5 minute quickie) 'The secret of success is not always in the outcome but in the standards of effort' and there's examples all over the place that this is so true. There is a presupposition in NLP - 'There's no failure only feedback' and there's examples everywhere where this is so true. In fact so many successes actually came from so called failures. This all being true is something to take on a deeper dive if only for around 5 minutes and when you come along you will find more to think about and do. This may also remind you of a previous FMQ where we discussed being the best version of YOU. Come on let's go deeper and have a listen along with me. The secret to making today better than today What!!!!!! Another secret exposed!!! In the last FMQ podcast I shared how to make tomorrow better than today and now we're going to learn how to make today better than today. It will all make sense - trust me :O) So if you have listened to FMQ 182 this will make even more sense and when you put into practice both of these processes you will be ready to rock your world. A podcast about a sad story we can use for a happy ending When I listen to a clients story it's as if they tell me what's the real problem without knowing. Not the issue they came in through the door with but the one that's causing the one they came in through the door with. They just don't know they know ;O) I've mentioned this story I heard from a man on the radio before in a past FMQ podcast, you know the shorter version of this podcast, and had forgotten I'd spoke about it and I have gone on into so much more deeper levels here with ways we can learn and use what we learn to help us, me and YOU, with the working through and letting go of our issues. So if you think you've heard this before you're both right and not right so stay tuned for some really good stuff we can use. Let me know what you think and as usual I hope that there's at least one thing you can take away from this and make a difference to your life. Doing something small that's big - the FMQ podcast Doing something with a dynamic effect! Whooeeee! And knowing that you will never know - what is all this about you're probably thinking. This all came about from watching a fitness video on Youtube = Jeff Cavelier is guy of Athleen-X. I really enjoy his thoughts as he, like me, looks for the cause and not the effect and makes a difference. The difference this time that he never realised the effect he was causing to one person until the contacted him and the results were brilliant. After you listen to this I wonder what effects you have on the world and the people you meet with your actions and intention. You know the ripples will go far and wide but you will never know how far and how wide. One thing for sure is they will go further than you will ever know! And they called it mental health the FMQ podcast Do you like the term 'Mental Health Issues' - I don't! Is it a positive description, a specific description or does it make you think the worst? I believe we should call our issues what they are, not worse and not exaggerated one way or the other. let's have a chat and know how quick we can change our behaviours because that's ALL they are. Three special answers the FMQ podcast This podcast came from a very small but one the most important questions I ask when I work with clients. Then I thought, if this is an important question in my change work, then why don't I use this outside the therapy room. No reason at all was the answer. Let me go through the question and the possible answers and how you too can use them in finding solutions to any issue or decision, and it certainly does not have to be therapy base problems. I'll also take you a little further to ensure when the answer is YES how to make sure and all you need is a little bit of imagination which I know you have in abundance. I wonder what else happens in the therapy room we can use with everyday goals and outcomes. Everything is so simple and as we quote 'In simplicity there is genius' Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. Challenges - my personal sharing - the podcast Following on from FMQ 129 I promised to share something personal. To share a personal challenge that effected me and the people close to me. Well, I have done that and a little more. I hope by opening up and letting you in, you will be able to learn from my challenges. Learn in a number of ways. If you are currently experiencing issues in your life I hope to encourage you that this too will pass, that there is always a way and that the darkness you are experiencing now helps you appreciate the light so much more. Hard to believe right now I know but it does :0) If you ever find yourself in the future facing overwhelming challenges you can know to take action early and know you can find the resources you need to succeed. If you know of someone who is not themselves, acting a little different then you know you can help by talking and suggesting help. That's why I always ask you to share this podcast with everyone you know, it's not an ego thing but knowing we have helped feels so damn good! That's why I work with people and carry on talking to you in this podcast. There is ' I believe a generative field of learning and the more we put into it everyone benefits. I have also added a hypnosis track, the process I use I don't know where it came from and I may have come up with it myself was a tremendous help for me and has proved to be the same for so many others. The FMQ - 5 minute quickie Does hindsight give you 20-20 vision to the past. Maybe or Maybe not. Here's my take on it, hope it's interesting to you ;0) Paul
The Five minute Quickie or FMQ for short is my very short podcast to give simple tips or processes that you can do right now and improve your day and days to come. Some examples of what's to come are #Seeing the world like Leonardo Da Vinci or #Journaling to make your day or #simply feeling better than you are right now and many many more quick and simple things we can do right now. These FMQ's may also prove to be the kick up the bum we all need to do the things we know and remember them (certainly this is as much for me as it is for you ;0). To recycle or incinerate; these were some of the choices outlined in the recent Nordic Horizons meeting with Kim Olsson of NSR from Helsingborg Sweden. Lesley reflects on the key points and potential lessons for the Scots. Equally, she has some sage advice for the women of the opposition after some FMQ clashes.
