Dr. Biles summarized and applied this section by saying that God has never given you cause to doubt Him. That's true of David's life and also of yours. In the first part of this message, Dr. Biles showed how David fleeing from Saul escaped to the Philistines. But God was faithful. Open your Bibles again to 1 Samuel 27 as Dr. Biles concludes this message entitled, "Where Have You Been?"

In this passage, we find David in what could arguably be considered the last place imaginable. David was fighting with the Philistines. They were the enemy. That's where the Giant, Goliath came from. But, in an effort to escape Saul, David fled to the Philistines. Dr. Biles entitled this message, “Where Have You Been” which was the moment when the Philistine king asked David about his actions in fighting for them. It's an unusual moment of accountability to an enemy commander.

Send us a Text Message.Paul Tremblay returns to Talking Scared on a long orbit, like that fabled Planet X that's going to kill us all.  He's back after two years for another discussion of horror aesthetics, introspective terrors and mixed-media nightmares – this time in Horror Movie, his meta-take on cursed cinema and lethal creativity.  Horror Movie is about young filmmakers and the shoot that marks them all, even unto death. It's also about the making of art, the machinery of fear and the cynicism of Hollywood. But beneath all that self-reflexive interrogation, it's also just a damn creepy story. And Paul talks to me about all of it. Note – there is jet lag aplenty in this episode. An arms race of confusion and forgetfulness. It makes for a good time. In this “Where Have You Been?” episode, Jenn and Daren let everyone know where they have been for the last few weeks. They start things off by talking about their recent spot in Huffington Post Black Voices series “Black Love on Our Terms,” in which they share how their relationship works and how others can use their model to find love on their own terms. They follow that up with an account of Jenn's hospital stay and the challenges of being a Black woman in the care of modern day doctors. In the second segment, Jenn and Daren detail how Jenn's book tour has progressed in support of her book “Black Women Taught Us.” This isn't your regular book signing, as their events start with a practitioner grounding the space and build a conversation not just about “Black Women Taught Us,” but about the centering and honoring of Black women. In the third segment, Jenn and Daren focus on Women's History Month, but championing the Black women we come into contact with everyday. In “Black Women Taught Us,” Jenn models this behavior by putting the personal people in their life who have shaped who they are in conversation with more well-known names whose contributions are largely overlooked or taken for granted. Jenn and Daren encourage everyone to celebrate all the women in their lives in this same way, recognizing the role they play in keeping us alive and safe. We do “adult” differently. We are That Black Couple. Our goal is to create a space for Black millennials to discuss and embody adult life on their own terms. We aren't beholden to “traditional” gender or parenting roles, queerness is fluid and present in the ways we show up in our relationships and in the world, and we want to build community with other 30-something Black folx who are trying to figure this ish out.

Tales of Glory - Episode 56 - Welcome to another fireside chat! This weekend, January 22, 2023, Mario Murillo dropped an interesting article on his ministry blog. His blog was titled Mario, Where Have You Been? Mario addresses why he has been absent from Christian television and streaming broadcasts. Then, Mario explains how he had to stand against current popular, celebrity-level false prophets - two in particular. This action is of interest to what we have discussed here on the need for spiritual direction and discipleship regarding supernatural ministry and hearing God. In this episode, we dive into the parallelisms of what Mario called out and what we discussed here on Tales of Glory. HIGHLIGHTS:Zachary Lazar and I talk about his extraordinary rock novel ‘Sway', a story that reimagines the early days of the Rolling Stones, including the romantic triangle of Brian Jones, Anita Pallenberg, and Keith Richards; the life of avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger; and Charles Manson and his followers. We also talk about the Stones at Altamont, Aleister Crowley, the Jewish mystical tradition, poets William Butler Yeats and William Blake, the difference between the Christian idea of Lucifer and the mythological Lucifer, the challenges of writing about real people in a fictional setting, my family's tangential connection to the Manson murders, Joyce Carol Oates' short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”, Joan Didion's titular essay from her book ‘The White Album' and the moment the 1960s ended.Later, two special guests drop by to add real-world context to the fictional story presented in ‘Sway': First, playwright, journalist, editor, and musician Tony Sokol briefly talks about the Stones' involvement in the occult and with Kenneth Anger. Then, Zeena Schreck, who is an artist, musician, Tibetan Buddhist yogini, and the goddaughter of Kenneth Anger, as well as former High Priestess of the Church of Satan (founded by her late father Anton LaVey), shares her memories of Kenneth Anger, including how her father made him her godfather and her personal and working relationship with Kenneth. She also talks a bit about her background and rebuilding her life as a Buddhist in Germany. In addition to this, Zeena discusses Kenneth's interest in Aleister Crowley; the making of and background on some of his iconic films, especially the 1969 film ‘Invocation of My Demon Brother' (a movie that figures large in Zachary Lazar's novel ‘Sway'); Kenneth's relationship with Anita Pallenberg and her influence on the Rolling Stones; and how Kenneth's work influenced MTV and music videos. For bonus material featuring Zeena Schreck, visit the Rock is Lit Vault. SONGS AND MEDIA IN THE EPISODE IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE:“Start Me Up” by the Rolling Stones“Torn and Frayed” by the Rolling StonesClip from ‘Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome'“Mr. Crowley” by Ozzy Osbourne“Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling StonesClip of the real Charles Manson speaking“Sway” by the Rolling Stones“Dancing With Mr. D” by the Rolling StonesClip of Mick Jagger's soundtrack to ‘Invocation of My Demon Brother'“Ruby Tuesday” by the Rolling Stones“2000 Light Years From Home” by the Rolling StonesTheme from ‘The Godfather'Clip from ‘Blue Velvet'“Midnight Rambler” from the Rolling Stones Hyde Park Show, Live 1969“Summer Swelter” by Zeena Schreck“Gimme Shelter” by the Rolling Stones*All images, music, and mementos of Zeena Schreck are used with her approval and cannot be reproduced without her permission.LINKS: Zachary Lazar's websiteZachary Lazar, Facebook, @ZacharyLazar    Tony Sokol, Twitter, @tsokolLink to Tony's article “The Occult Influences of Sympathy for the Devil” in ‘Den of Geek'For news of Zeena's current public activities and releases, subscribe to the e-newsletter at https://www.zeenaschreck.com/subscribe.htmlZeena's website: www.ZeenaSchreck.comZeena's blog: https://www.zeenaschreck.com/blogZeena on Bandcamp: https://zeenaschreck.bandcamp.com/releasesZeena, Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeenaschreck_art/Zeena, YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ZeenaSchreckOfficialZeena, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ZEENA.Official.ZeenaSchreckChristy Alexander Hallberg's websiteChristy Alexander Hallberg, Instagram/Twitter, @ChristyHallbergChristy Alexander Hallberg YouTubeRock is Lit VaultLink to Christy Alexander Hallberg's essay on the Manson Family, “Shifting Phantasmagoria”: http://storysouth.com/stories/shifting-phantasmagoria/

Heartstopper fans, if you loved Charlie as much as I did this episode is for YOU, as today we are joined by the man himself, Joe Locke. And he's even greater in real life, if you can believe it! Joe beat 10,000 hopefuls to win his first ever on-screen role as Charlie in the hit Netflix show, which follows his character as he falls for the school jock, Nick, played by Kit Connor. If you haven't seen it the show - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN - it'sbased on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman, so get onto Netflix right now because it will make you feel all the feelings, and its a joyful celebration of queer love that is beyond needed on our screens. In this episode Joe joins us from his family home on the Isle of Man where he is currently juggling overnight fame with revising for his A-Levels, and talks about his journey from island life to the set of a Netflix hit show and the lifetime friendships he built working on it. Joe also talks about feeling like an outsider - much like Charlie does in the show - and how we need to rethink viewing that as a negative thing, and I couldn't agree more! He also chats about tearing up the rule book about what a leading man should be and look like, and he shares his thoughts on coming out. Like so many of you, this show means so much to me so I hope you love listening to this episode with Joe as much as I did talking to him. I also hope you continue to listen and find the power to Reign in your own lives. If you have just listened to our epic episode with Callum Scott Howells and loved It's A Sin as much as I did, this episode dives into the issues raised in both. Today we are joined by two incredible and inspirational people who have been directly impacted by HIV: Jill Nalder who It's A Sin's character, Jill, is based on and Eugene Lynch who was diagnosed with HIV in 2013 and is now a Senior Positive Voices Coordinator at the Terrence Higgins Trust. In case you haven't watched It's A Sin yet - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN – the show which is nominated for 11 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards - explores the lives and loves of group of queer youngsters beginning a new life in 1980s London and soon find themselves struck by the HIV pandemic, ignored by most of the world at the time. Created by the iconic Russel T Davies, the show is now nominated for an incredible 11 awards at the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards including a nomination for Colin's diagnosis scene - played powerfully by Callum Scott Howells - for the Virgin Media Must See Moment Award. In this episode Jill Nalder who was not only the inspiration for Jill Baxter in the show, the character played by Lydia West (check out Lydia's Reign episode - it's episode four!) but also plays her onscreen mother, reflects on losing a number of close friends in the 1980s who were affected by the HIV pandemic. She also talks powerfully about allyship whilst looking back on her own experience of supporting her friends through this time, taking them tests and visiting them in hospital. Eugene Lynch joins us to talk about his own journey from his diagnosis with HIV to today, the reality of living with HIV today and looks back on the progress we have made with society's approach to HIV and what we can do to eradicate the stigma that still persists. Plus Jill and Eugene talk about the incredible work of the Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK's leading HIV and sexual health charity which offers support, information and advice services for those living with HIV and affected by HIV or poor sexual health. This year marks 40 years since the death of Terry Higgins - one of the first people in the UK to die from an AIDS-related illness - and the formation of the charity in his name. And for 40 years their vision is for a world where people with HIV live healthy lives free from prejudice and discrimination, and good sexual health is a right and reality for all. Both Jill and Eugene share some truly inspirational stories and advice we all need to listen to so I hope their stories strike a chord with you, like they did with me. I hope you love listening to this episode and I also hope you continue to listen and find the power to Reign in your own lives. If you love this episode, please get in touch (follow me across social media @joshsmithhosts), I love hearing from you. Love, Josh xxxP.S. If you have been affected by any of the content raised in this episode, are living with HIV yourself or you know someone that is, please head to The Terrence Higgins Trust. And while It's A Sin centers on a group of gay men in London, Terrence Higgins Trust continues to work with a whole host of different people as HIV can, and does, affect anyone of any age, sexuality, ethnicity or gender. Despite this, 77% of UK adults have never had a HIV test. Routine testing needs to be increased to find people living with undiagnosed HIV in the UK. For more information on testing, for support of for more information visit tht.org.ukP.P.S I can't really believe that this and you will have heard all about it in the podcast but this very special episode of REIGN is brought to you in partnership with Virgin Media – proud sponsors of the British Academy Television Awards. Virgin Media brings together all your favourite entertainment under one roof. And, as the only award at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards that's voted for by us, the public, Virgin Media's Must-See Moment represents real TV fans and the moments we love! It's down to six unmissable TV moments, including Colin's devastating AIDs diagnosis in It's A Sin, which we've discussed in this episode. But there can be only one winner. So who'll be crowned Virgin Media's Must-See Moment of 2021? You'll have to tune in for this year's Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards on 8th May at 6pm to find out! I'll be joining you on the sofa in my evening wear finest! SEE YA THERE! X

Topics include hints of a supernatural explanation for Arnold Friend, Laura Dern's surprising revelation about the film that came years later, director Joyce Chopra's giving back, and the unique vulnerability of girls in our society. They finish by casting their vote for which version should be considered the best! “Smooth Talk” movie discussion: 43:10 “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been” by Joyce Carol Oates Morbid Podcast episode about Charles Schmid Why the Book Wins Podcast https://whythebookwins.com/listen-to-podcast/ YouTube https://www.youtube.com/c/WhytheBookWins Instagram https://www.instagram.com/whythebookwins/ Ink to Film Become a Patron for hours of exclusive content & more: www.patreon.com/inktofilm Buy any of the other source novels at Ink to Film's bookshop: www.bookshop.org/shop/inktofilm Ink to Film's Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (@inktofilm) Home Base: inktofilm.com Intro Music: “No Winners” by Ross Bugden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qk-vZ1qicI Luke Elliott Website: www.lukeelliottauthor.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/luminousluke James Bailey Twitter: https://twitter.com/Jame_Bail
