Well, they've ploughed, They've sown, they've harrowed him in Threw clouds upon his head Till these three men were satisfied John Barleycorn was dead They've let him lie for a long long time Till the rains from heaven did fall And little sir John sprang up his head And so amazed them all They let him fly till the midsummer's day Till he looked both pale and wan, oh Then little Sir John has grown a long long beard And so became a man They have hired men with the scythes so sharp To cut him off at the knee, They rolled and they tied him around the waist Serving him most him barbarously They hired men with the sharp pitchforks To prick him to the heart And the loader he has served him worse than that For he's bound him to the cart Well, they've wheeled him 'round and 'round the field Till they came onto a barn And there they made their solemn oath Concerning a Barleycorn They hired men with the crab tree sticks To split him skin from bone, yeah But the miller he has served him worst and bad For he ground him between two stones Well there's beer all in the barrel And brandy in the glass, But little old sir John with his nut-brown bowl Proved the strongest man at last John Barleycorn, throw him up, throw him up! Now the huntsman, he can't hunt the fox Nor loudly blow his horn And the tinker he can't mend his pots Without John Barleycorn, John Barleycorn, John Barleycorn Barleycorn, Barleycorn John Barleycorn, John Barleycorn     The Night Pat Murphy Died   Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain't got sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died As Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner pouring out her grief Kelly and his gang came tearing down the street They went into an empty room and a bottle of whiskey stole They put the bottle with the corpse to keep that whiskey cold That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died About two o'clock in the morning after empty'ing the jug Doyle rolls up the ice box lid to see poor Paddy's mug We stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn't tell the time And at a quarter after two we argued it was nine That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died They stopped the hearse on George Street outside Sundance Saloon They all went in at half past eight and staggered out at noon They went up to the graveyard, so holy and sublime Found out when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind! That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk and they ain't been sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died     Great to be a Pirate   Soon you'll be a dead man   Ain't it great to be a pirate, laddie To sail the seas and to end just like your daddy Draw your cutlass, spark your pistol's flash pan Steal gold to spend before you are a dead man soon you'll be a dead man.   Welcome to the ship, you're now one of the crew We've lots of fun since we have so much to do We've sails to mend, and decks for which to swab A bilge to pump, and lots of other jobs   There's lots of ropes, a-ready for the climbing We need a nesting' crow, since our last he went deck divin' And if you find, in Hell you are a doubter We're always runnin' short, of monkeys for the powder   Down in the galley, the bread is cooked with raisins To hide the maggots, in the flower Cookie's raisin' The water's going bad, in the barrels where its keepin' The rum is getting stronger, since the First Mate's heads been steepin'   In every port, the ladies there are waitin' To take the gold, from each man whose loins are achin' Then back to sea, to start it all again Or face the gallows, and become a freer man   all together tenor and bass finish with ""for soon you'll be a dead man.""   Ain't it great, to be a pirate, Laddie To sail the seas, and to hang just like your daddy Draw your cutlass, spark your pistol's flash pan Steal gold to spend, for soon you'll be a dead man for soon you'll be a dead man.     Wild Mountain Tyme   Oh, the summertime is comin' And the trees are sweetly bloomin' And the wild mountain thyme Grows around the purple heather Will you go? Lassie, will you go? And we'll all go together To pick wild mountain thyme All around the purple heather Will you go? Lassie, will you go? I will build my love a tower By yon pure and crystal fountain Yes and on it I will lay All the flowers of the mountain Will you go? Lassie, will ya go? And we will all go together To pick wild mountain thyme All around the purple heather Will you go? Lassie, will you go? If my true love won't come with me Then I would surely find another To pick wild mountain thyme All around the purple heather Will you go? Lassie, will ya go? And we will all go together To pick wild mountain thyme All around the purple heather Will you go? Will you go? Lassie will you go?     The Man in the Moon   The man in the moon dropped in last night He and Miss Muffet stopped in for a bite They said little boy blue was out for the night Chasing cows through the Milky Way They ask my opinion on kippers and kings And did I think trouble went around like a ring Did you ever hear such a curious thing Did you think it would make me cry I say to myself down and said where did you go Why did you leave as I started to grow They both shake their heads and softly said no It’s a trick of perspective you see Like all the king’s horses and all the kings men You’ve been marching away since this story began You went straight away in search of an end For something you thought might be Now I sit at a desk while my dreams all die The telephone rings, the debts pile high While I’d rather be somewhere up in the sky Singing songs with the man in the moon Twinkle twinkle little star How I wonder what you are Op above the world so high A diamond in the sky They both smiled and stood and said thanks for the tea But they had an appointment at a quarter to three They said look them up if by chance I was free They’d be happy to shine on down So I’m sleeping out in the yard tonight And I don’t care if the midges may bite For the stars overhead are a beautiful sight And the moon is shining down So when you sit at your desk in your dreams all die The telephone rings and the debts pile high Wouldn’t you rather be up in the sky Singing songs with the man in the moon Oh what a wonderful tune Singing songs with the man on the moon.       Bonnie Ship the Diamond   The Diamond is a ship, my lads For the Davis Strait we're bound The quay it is all garnished With bonnie lasses 'round Captain Thompson gives the order To sail the ocean wide Where the sun it never sets, my lads Nor darkness dims the sky For it's cheer up my lads Let your hearts never fail For the bonnie ship the Diamond Goes a-hunting for the whale Along the quay at Peterhead The lasses stand aroon Wi' their shawls all pulled around them And the saut tears runnin' doon Don't you weep, my bonnie wee lass Though you be left behind For the rose will grow on Greenland's ice Before we change our mind For it's cheer up my lads Let your hearts never fail For the bonnie ship the Diamond Goes a-hunting for the whale Here's a health to the Resolution Likewise the Eliza Swan Three cheers for the Battler of Montrose And the Diamond, ship of fame We wear the trousers o' the white The jackets o' the blue When we get back to Peterhead We'll hae sweethearts enou' For it's cheer up my lads Let your hearts never fail For the bonnie ship the Diamond Goes a-hunting for the whale It will be bright both day and night When the Greenland lads come hame Our ship full up with oil, my lads And money to our name We'll make the cradles for to rock And the blankets for to tear And every lass in Peterhead sing ""Hushabye, my dear"" For it's cheer up my lads Let your hearts never fail For the bonnie ship the Diamond Goes a-hunting for the whale For it's cheer up my lads Let your hearts never fail For the bonnie ship the Diamond Goes a-hunting for the whale     We are Ye Banished Privateers   Ye Banished Privateers In a filthy old tavern in the port of Belfast There sat a drunken laddie, he was tall as a scooner's mast He said ""My name is Charles and I am your king An' my royal arse on your ship you shall bring!"" Well I said ""You sure can swagger, but a king you are not"" And if I had that fucker here, I'd sure have him shot! ""But I need one more swabber, and we're leavin' tonight And you'll find the pay is good, can you sail, can you fight."" We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer But Charlie was a weak one, a real worthless prick He threw up all the time 'cause the salt made 'em sick And when we were plundering a rich merchant ship He ran into hiding, trembling his lip But sea legs can grow on the weakest of lads It turned out some talent in fencing I had Once I grew fond of the pirate charade I'd be the first to dive into the fray We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer We roamed all over the seven seas We plundered wherever there riches may be From ye coast of Tortuga to ye shores of Cape Horn We looted n' pillaged both poor and well born For each passing year an' each bottle of rum Had Charlie a more vicious pirate become One with the laddies so fearful and great He advanced to the rank of first mate We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer But each thing so good, must come to an end And Charlie a letter from England was sent It turned that rascal was truly our king He returned from his exile during the spring I gave them my blessing to rove n' I said ""A yearly wager in gold you'll be paid But back home to England you cannot return For you are the scum of the Earth I have learned!"" We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer We are Ye Banished Privateers We are King Charlie's rovers, we're sailors besmeared We are Ye Banished Privateers We'll be hanged by the neck if near England we steer!

This week in the Celtic Music Magazine I share with you a few secrets I learned about how to visit Skellig Michael in Ireland. This island as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The island climbs 700 feet. It is known for the Gaelic monastery that was founded there in the 6th and 8th centuries. It was also featured in the Star Wars, The Last Jedi. So it's not easy to access. I share an article where you can learn more about how to access the island when you travel to Ireland. Subscribe here. Regarding voting, although all your featured musicians are wonderful, when asked to vote for a specific episode's featured musician, perhaps asking to vote for that particular/featured song would be more appropriate? By that I mean, I have gone back & searched the bands featured but found 2 or 3 songs as my personal favourites. Absolutely no offence to the great bands but I wouldn't go as far as voting them as my favourite bands, rather songs :) Also, what do you think about either as the final episode of the year or the first episode of the year, featuring the top rated songs of the year, voted by the listeners? Anyway thank you again and I promise to become a paid subscriber once I have some income. Currently in the process of starting a sustainable, holistic, self sufficient & off-grid Ecovillage in Canada. More on that if you are interested. Namaste"

Pubs are often dark places. I'm sure dark things have been discussed. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't feel they are any darker than what we find on social media. I don't like social media. It brings out the worst in people. It makes the world a more vile place than it actually is. And so I avoid it, like the plague. Fair comparison. That's one of the big reasons I changed things up this year. But before we get to this year, let's talk about last and the many things happening in the pub. In this show, you will hear some of my picks of the best Celtic bands of 2018. You'll enjoy new music from the Brobdingnagian Bards to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Learn about the new Song Request feature of Coffee with The Celtfather. Understand my new mission statement for the podcast. And then we will chat about how the pain of engaging on social media outweighs its use and why I moved to YouTube. Finally, I launch a new feedback section today. So I need your feedback. I'm so sick of the  hate that inspires these attacks. It reminds me of the attacks the Irish suffered when they first came to America. That hate is a plague. So I wanted to send out my Celtic solidarity for that community and all the disenfranchised communities who similarly suffer. We are here for you. I wanna thank you so much for listening to the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. There are other podcasts sharing Celtic music. And they are fantastic. In fact, if you know of any Celtic podcast that's worth listening to, drop me an email. I'd love to share it with listeners. You are here because we're doing something a little bit different. We focus on independent Celtic music. These bands don’t have huge financial backers. They don’t have record labels. Working together, we are helping them live a dream. We are part of something bigger. So thank you for supporting this podcast and my dream to create an inclusive Celtic community. TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. But I am not a fan of corporate influence. Certainly not in politics, but also not in the music I create and share. That’s one of the reasons that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast supports independent Celtic musicians. I want to help the artists who don’t have a record label or a giant production company behind them. They are doing everything themselves. Your support of this podcast helps with that mission. This show is listener supported. Instead of trying to find advertisers, I've decided to let your generosity fund the creation, production, and promotion of the show. Mark Albright emailed: "Marc, Last year, when I upgraded my iPhone, I opened the Irish and Celtic Music podcast and noticed it defaulted to the very first episode. I looked through what was played and unplayed, noticed my listening has been sporadic at best, and decided I would start at the very beginning and go up until the most recent podcast. Well, a week and half ago, I got caught up. I've been listening to your podcast while cooking dinner, while cleaning my apartment, while driving to and from work. I also have it on when I've traveled up north and back, proving the podcast makes a great travel companion. You name it, you and the music has been in the background. Along the way, I've Favorited the Christmas music podcasts which has further proved the best way to listen to Christmas music is to have it played on Celtic instruments. But the biggest story I want to share involves your Celtic Music Workout specials. I started listening to the first one when, completely by chance, when I went to the gym and worked the elliptical. It was a trip! The podcast got my heart rate up and kept me motivated to keep on going. I shared those two podcasts with my friend Roxanne, my nephew and niece-in-law - all of whom are long distance runners. I also shared them with the managers of the gym that I go to. They got a bang out of listening to them and liked how the music kept the momentum up throughout the podcast. So, if you are ever inspired to create any new Celtic Music Workout podcasts, please do so. They are appreciated! Keep up the great work on the podcast. It's greatly appreciated...well, at least by me. Slainte!"

Being a 17-year-old visually impaired musician that plays a lot of Trad Irish music, it's wonderful to see a podcast that is dedicated to Celtic music! With that being said, I shall continue to be a listener, and this podcast shall continue to help me with schoolwork!"
