Anyway, I just I look at the narcissist stuff and and Some of the people who are espousing the narcissists that they have to deal with are espousing it in such a narcissistic way. Are you so self self obsessed that you have no awareness of, of the people about you? That's my honest thought. I'm like, Are you so self self as... Mr. or Mrs. Person who is suggesting others are narcissists, and you have been taken advantage by said narcissists. Are you so self absorbed? That um... isn't that what a narcissist is? They're kind of self absorbed. I'm completely talking out my ass. I apologize.Mischa Zvegintzov Oh my gosh, I think you get the point. Back to it the attractive character. So the adventurer. I send out emails, make these podcast episodes, Table Rush Talk Show episodes. And they can kind of go all over the place. They can. They can kind of go all over the place. And I can have insecurity about that. About myself about what I'm up to. And then so a friend was asking me this lady friend was asking me "Hey, lady, friend, I'm sure you'll know the story". If you're listening to this, although you told me that you liked reading my emails, and you're not a podcast person. So and she said to me, as she was asking me advice on something else, she said, I did the Hoffman process back in the day, which is awesome. And and the Hoffman process is just so cool, man. It's awesome. I would encourage anybody to go do it. One of the biggest acts of self love that I've ever done for myself. And that's really when I was like, oh, like spending some money on on me was kind of expensive at the time I think was five or $8,000 or something like that. Not sure if you're a lot the Hoffman process has lots of secrets too. There's lots of secrets about the Hoffman process. It's good it's a good one. But my friend was like Hey, I know you like that. You said it helped you in these areas. I have a friend that would like some help in those areas.Mischa Zvegintzov "So what was the thing you went and did up in the bay area?" Was in White Sulphur Springs? "Yeah the Hoffman process"... she said "cool cool". And then she said Hey, by the way I love that email. The Tom email was so sweet. Was so sweet my buddy Tom Hey, Tom. Fledgling narcissist. Said with love Tom said with love. He's got his sunglass company saunt eyewear. It's an eyewear company. And he does make sunglasses along with readers. They're awesome 3d out of castor bean oil. Light. They're amazing. Anyway I had this really cool story with Tom and and I was inspired and a well crafted story. A well crafted email to my email list and a lot of people loved it. And so she said Hey, I love that that that I love that the Tom email. Then she said I just want you to know I love your emails. I read them all the time and and you never know what you're gonna get. And it's just it's like an adventure with you. And I, i i How long is this thing going is episode two but this up. So there's, there's you never know what you're going to get. It's like going on an adventure with you. And I was like, Oh my gosh, the universe just gave me a beautiful little nugget through my lady friend. About the identity, right like embrace your identity. And currently you know I got you got the adventure. I got some of the adventure going on. Like I'm striking out, try new things and bring it back nuggets for my audience. And I have an avatar. Another side note but on my avatar, Ben and Deidre. This is the perfect customer, the person that I would like to work with the most that I think I can serve best that I'm inspired to, to co create with the universe and have fun with and I've named them Ben and Deidre. I'm looking at them right now kind of printed out on my wall, and has a sense of adventure. That is one of their characteristics, they have a sense of adventure. Also, they like trying new things, and they like a challenge. And there's some other bits and bullet points on these perfect, my perfect customer.Mischa Zvegintzov But I'll button this episode up. Welcome back to wherever you're hanging out with me at. We've got Instagram. We've got Facebook going right now. And I am home during week number two of our quarantine. And I'm guessing a lot of you guys are as well. And so while we're sitting here, trying to figure out what to do, I figured this is a good time to start talking more about traffic. So hopefully, you guys are all excited and pumped for that. Anyway, excited to be here with you guys today. And it's interesting, as we were talking this morning as a team, and we started talking about all the fears. There are obviously a lot of fears, right now, happening in society and the economy and things like that. It's like, "Well, how do we protect ourselves? How do we create a life preserver around our company? What does it look like? What does that need to be?" And honestly, the biggest, most important life preserver you can create for your company is getting customers. That is your life preserver, especially in times right now, where so many companies aren't able to get customers. That's why the economy's failing, why businesses are failing is because they can't get customers. And so I figured, from now until the next, I don't know, two or three weeks, two or three months, I'm going to be talking about this like crazy with you guys. How do we get customers? How do we get customers? Because it's the thing that we all need right now. It's the safety net we need to protect ourselves and to protect our businesses. And so that's kind of the game plan. So with that said, you guys excited if we go jump back into Traffic Secrets book some more? First off, thank you so much for all you guys. And the hospitals are going to be overwhelmed with that. So good thing they're preparing now, I guess. Anyway, so I want to jump into this next section here of Traffic Secrets with you guys. If you've been listening to all of the things, today we're going to be jumping into secret number three, which is by far the most, probably one of, if not the most, important secrets in the entire book, which I'm excited for you guys to get into. So things we've covered so far. Secret number one, we talked about who is your dream customer and really getting a deep understanding of them. Are they moving towards pleasure or away from pain? Are they a searcher? Are they a scroller? Getting deep into their mindsets so we understand them because if we understand who they are, then we can understand secret number two, which is where are they actually hiding. Where are they congregating online? Where is the existing streams of traffic happening? So we can go, we can find those people, and we can tap into them. So that's number two. So now secret number three is what we call, are you guys ready for this? Hook, story, offer, and the attractive character. Now, man, if you guys have been following me at all for the last two years, not quite, a year and a half or so, about a year and half ago-ish is when I first came up with the new framework, hook, story, offer. And I started freaking out. I was like, "Ah." And I remember it was one of those things, where I was doing a training for my two comma club X members, and it just kind of came out. I was teaching something, and I was like, "if you notice, every single page in the funnel has hook, story, offer. The ad does. The emails do. The landing page, the sales page, upsells, every single page has hook, story, offer. And as we got deeper and deeper into it, I realized that if anything in the funnel isn't working, it's always because of either the hook, the story, or the offer. And then I started freaking out. I remember the next morning I came in, it was like six in the morning. I was lifting weights with James P. Friel and Dave Woodward. And I was like, "You guys, guess what? I just figured out this thing." And they're like, "What is it?" I'm like, "It's called hook, story, offer." And they're like, "That sounds weird." And we spent the entire hour, we didn't lift a single weight that day. We just talked about hook, story, offer. And they were freaking out. I was freaking out. I'm looking at every funnel we've ever done. Like, what was the thing that made them work and not work? And it was crazy that every single time it always had to come down, and it was always either the hook, the story, or the offer. And so I want to give you guys, as you guys know, when I wrote the new Traffic Seekers book, at the same time I went and I rewrote the DotCom secrets book. I rewrote the Expert Secrets book. And then I wrote this book as well. I wrote this one first, and then rewrote those other two. And because hook, story, offer, it's crazy because it's such a fundamental important concept. But because I didn't come up with that framework until after these first two books were published, these two books were missing it. And so part of the big rewrites in these include the hook, story, offer. So in DotCom Secrets book, I go deep in hook, story, offer. Expert Secrets, I go back into it as well. In DotCom Secrets, we talk a lot about funnel audibles and testing your funnel and funnels not working. And there's a whole new section in the back here about that. And what's cool about it is it's all based back on hook, story, offer. Anyway, and so in the new book, Traffic Secrets, I talk a lot about this as well because it's such a big part. In fact, traffic, one of the most important things I've tracked is being good at throwing out hooks. A hook is like, how do you grab someone's attention? Most of our customers all day are on their phone scrolling, and they're scrolling, and they're scrolling. A hook is the thing that gets them to stop scrolling. So the hook could be the picture of you. Notice I didn't just do this on a white wall. I'm like, "Hey, I need a picture back here." And I totally forgot. I usually have something different back here, but there's the default Apple TV backdrop. I've got my books here. And then, notice I'm doing things like this. I'm trying to hook your attention. So if you're scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, all of a sudden you see this. Like, "Why is Russell so excited? Ah." And that hooks you. So hook could be the headline. It could be the image. It could be the picture. It could be a backer. It's everything you have in your tool chest to grab someone's attention. There's hook. Okay. The second part of hook, story, offer is story, which in the Expert Secrets book is the deep dive on story, storytelling, story process, how it works, how it doesn't work. And so I talk about story a lot here, but Traffic Secrets is primarily finding the people and getting hooks to grab their attention. Expert secrets is like how you tell the story to build a perceived value of what you're going to sell. And then actually, in Dotcom secrets, we go deeper into offer. So you got hook, story, offer. They kind of weave backwards in the books, but I touch upon them deep in each book. But so, Traffic Seekers book, in section number three, or secret number three, is all about hook, story, offer. So I'm going to flip open to there really quick. So you see the picture here. If you guys can see, if you're watching, you can see there's a picture of all these little hooks. Then there's the story. And there's the offer. And this is the core framework of funnels. When you really start understanding it. All right. Are you guys cool, if I read you part of the book? Ah. Okay, I'm going to read you a story. And this is, anyway, this is a fun one. "So it was 9:27 PM. Sorry. It's 9:27 PM. And the last of Jessica's kids had just fallen asleep. It had been a long day that started out way before the sun came up and was finally ending. While Jessica was exhausted, it was her time now. And she had a few precious moments to herself without kids pulling her in a million directions." Does that sound like any of you guys? If you've got kids, it sounds like me, especially during this quarantine. "Soon she would have to start her nighttime routine of cleaning up the house, getting herself ready for bed, taking off her makeup, and finally falling asleep for a few hours before she had to wake up and start it all over again. As she fell on the couch, she reached in to her pocket and slowly pulled out her phone. What had been happening in everyone else's lives today, she wondered. She opened Facebook and swiped through the lives of her friends and family, hoping to find some comfort, knowing that she wasn't the only one who had a busy day. Soon she started to get bored. But when she was about to close the app, she saw an image fly past her screen. She almost missed it, but she slowly moved her finger back up the phone, bringing the picture into the middle of the screen. Yep. She thought she was right. It was a picture of a woman about her age in workout clothes with gray shorts on. The thing that caught her eye wasn't the shorts, though, it was the dark gray spot in the middle of her shorts. A little confused. She looked around above the image and read the words, 'Let me tell you about the time that I peed my pants during a workout. I was filming for dollar workout club. I'd never been so embarrassed before.' Jessica was right. It was a picture of a grown woman who had peed her pants. She laughed for a second, but then her laughter turned into uneasiness as she realized that she knew exactly how this woman had felt. She had experienced the same thing earlier that year, when her kids had wanted her to jump on the trampoline with them. She wanted to be a good mom, but after a few jumps, she had to get off because she had peed her pants. She quickly came up with a reason why she couldn't jump anymore. And after apologizing to her kids, she had run to her house to get changed. She knew the story she told her kids wasn't true, which added to her mom guilt even more. This also made her think about other activities she knew she would love to do but were off limits for the same reason. After a few seconds of looking at the image, Jessica decided she wanted to see why in the world this woman would post a picture of herself on Facebook telling others that she had peed her pants. She clicked on the image and was immediately taken to the page of the video with the same woman in the picture. Jessica clicked on the video and started listening to the story. The woman's name was Natalie Hodson, and she was a fitness blogger and a mom of two amazing kids, who were both 10 pound babies. Natalie told her embarrassing story, when she accidentally peed her pants during a workout she was filming for her blogs. She then talked about a doctor that she had met, who specialized in helping women with this problem. She shared how the doctors were able to help her. And after she had success, she wanted to share it with other women. Natalie mentioned she had worked with the doctor to create an online program that anyone could do from home with simple exercises to strengthen their abs, core, and pelvic floor. Together, Natalie and the doctors, made an ebook that also came with bonuses, like diet, nutrition trips, exercises, and movements, and special training programs. They wanted to make this offer for all the moms who had struggled with accidental leaks after having babies but didn't have the ability to meet with the doctor in person. Even though Jessica story is fictional, this type of experience does happen each and every day to women who are embarrassed when they accidentally pee their pants a little bit, when they cough, sneeze, or even jump on the trampoline. This is happening every single day. And I shared that story at the beginning because Natalie's business has blown up, but it's all based on the same concept. People have their phones, or they're on their computer. They're scrolling through Facebook and Instagram, through YouTube, through blogs, like whatever their method of learning is. They're doing their thing. And then something's got to capture their attention. Now for us, as business owners, as marketers, as entrepreneurs, as funnel hackers, our job has become great at getting people's attention, throwing out hooks that grab their attention. So for Natalie, as she was scrolling through their feed, they see her standing there embarrassed with the peed pants. Like she's sobbing. What is that? Boom. You got them. You hooked them just long enough that you can now tell them a story. Now, the goal of the story is to increase the perceived value of whatever it is you're going to be selling. And then, excuse me, and then you make them an offer.. And that's it. That's the game. That's how we drive traffic. That's how we sell products with things that we're selling inside of our funnel. And I mentioned this earlier, what's interesting is as you start looking at your funnel, at your ad campaigns, everything, if something's not working, launched the ad campaign. It's not working. Why? It's always because of one of these three things, either the hook wasn't right. It's not getting people's attention. Or if it is grabbing attention, but then they're not buying, that means the story did not increase the perceived value of what they're selling, or what you're selling. And if the hook's good, and the story's good, it means the offers is no good. So if you get all three of them working, then everything works in the funnel. And that's true every page. Like the ad, there's a hook, a story, and an offer on the ad. There's a hook, story, offer on the landing page. There's a hook, story, offer on the sales page. Hook, story, offer on the upsell page. Hook, story, offer on the down sell page. Every single page in the funnel has a hook, a story, and an offer. This video alone, literally, I'm here with you guys. This video is a hook. There's a whole bunch of hooks around me. There's the books, the pictures. There's me reading a story. There's me being all animated. There's stuff like that. There's a headline. It's the hook, story, offer, attracted character on Facebook. It wasn't on Instagram because I can't do headline on Instagram. But that was the hook. And so far, live, I've gotten about 200 people on Instagram and about 350-ish on Facebook. So 500 people, boom, and with a second scroll because hook grabbed you guys to get your attention. Now, I have your attention. Now my job is to tell you a story. And the goal of my story is to increase the perceived value of the offer I'm going to be making. So I'm telling you a story about this book. I'm talking about it. I'm reading parts of it to you. I'm getting you excited, where you like, "Oh my gosh, I need that book." And if I've done my job right, if the story is good, it's increased the perceived value of this book. And then I make you the offer. Now, in the Traffic Secrets book, it's called hook, story, offer, and the attractive character because it's you. It's your personality. You're the one who's throwing these hooks out. You're the one grabbing people's attention. You're going to have to be engaging. You have to be exciting. You have to be figuring things out. And there's books everywhere on every platform. Like, any of you guys who follow me on Instagram, you go to my wall. Everyone of those images is a hook. Like yesterday, I did an image of me holding a post-it note that had a scripture from the book of Esther that said, perhaps, I'm going to mess up the quote right now. "But perhaps you were born for times of right now." That was a hook to people's attention. There are all this panic, all this fear, and people are scrolling through feed. And then boom, I'm throwing the thing to say, "Look, the S is scary, but this is your time. It's time to step up and try to stand." I hooked. I was telling you a story. And the offer is just people like it. I think I had like 4,000 likes in the first, I don't know, like five or six hours. So hook, story, offer. It's happening there. It's happening there. It's happening when I'm selling, happening in my videos, happening in my emails, happening in my ads. Everywhere you're publishing, everything you're doing, hook, story, offer is there, over and over and over and over and over again. Kim said, "Russell, is a hook just an image?" It's not just an image. It can be an image. Yes. But it can be so many other things. A hook is anything that grabs your attention. And so when you're scrolling through your feed, sometimes the thing is like, in fact, this is your assignment. Tonight, when we got off this, whenever you get off this, whatever you're listening to, go to Instagram or Facebook or YouTube, wherever you're excited about. And just start scrolling, just go through the feed and start scrolling. And notice what things grab your attention. And when someone grabs your attention, stop. And then what was it that grabbed the attention? Was it the headline? Was it the image? Was it the crazy person? Was it something? Was it the comments? There's something that grabbed attention. Whatever that was that grabbed attention is the hook. So I'm making my videos. I'm looking for, I set up this location, right here, for a couple reasons. Like, here's a potential hook that might grab some. You see some books. I could put something on the screen, back here. I'm in my funnel hacker shirt. I'm excited. I'm talking. All these elements are things I'm doing to try to hook people. I don't know what's going hook. Something hooked all of you guys. Some of it's because you know who I am. So that's the hook. Some of it's, you're looking for traffic. That's the hook. Some of you guys just like, "There's this weird guy who's all excited. What is it? what's happening?" The hook is different… your energy is the best hook. So hook is just, it's whatever it is that grabs their attention. So it's all the tools we have in our tool chest. We're trying all of them. We're throwing everything out to get their attention just long enough that they're going to stop from their scrolling. List stop. And then you say, "Okay, cool. Now, I got your attention. Let me tell you a story." I'm telling the story. And again, the goal of the story is to build, to increase the perceived value of the thing that I'm going to sell them next, the offer I'm going to make. And then I make an offer. That's the game. That's it. What's fun is because now it's like when people have a funnel, like, "My funnels not working, Russ. What do I do?" And it's funny. I have people, we do consulting. And it's, I don't really do it any more because it just, I ran out of time. But last time I did consulting it was a hundred grand for a day, and people coming in like, "My funnel's not working. I want to increase." Literally, what I would do, I would go to the ad and look at that and say, "Okay, this ad is doing all right. How can we make it better? Is there any better hooks we could use? Is there a better story you can tell? What's a better offer?" And we spent some time on that. Then we'd go to the landing page. "Okay, here's your landing page. Cool. It's doing all right. What's a better hook we can do? What's a better story we could tell? What's a better offer?" And then go to sales page, hook, story, offer, hook, story, and that's it. There's no magic trick. You want to see the magician, how he reveals his magic tricks. That literally is it. It's hook, story, offer. If you paid me a hundred grand today, that's all we would do. What's interesting is at funnel hacking live two years, let's see, not last year but a year before, funnel hacking live, my opening keynote presentation, I talked about hook, story, offer for first time ever. And I remember Stacy Martino was there, and she said, "I went home that night. And I was like, 'Okay, I need some help, but I don't know what to do. If I was to pay Russell, he would just tell me it's hook, story, offer. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to think what's my hook, my story, offer'." She started looking at her business. She said, "Oh my gosh, my story is amazing. My offer's amazing. I'm not throwing out enough hooks." She says, "I'm going to throw out some more hooks." So she started doing all these things, and she messaged me, I don't know, like two weeks later. She's like, "Russell, thanks for consulting." I'm like, "hat are you talking about?" She's like, "You told me that if I was to hire you, you'd do hook, story, offer. So I just looked through my own business. I said, 'Is it the hook, the story, the offer?' I realized it was hook. I threw out a bunch more hooks. And she said, "We just had the most profitable month of our entire business because of that." I'm like, "Wow, that's amazing." Like now, you know my tricks. Now I'm useless in the equation. That's what's important for you guys to understand. Your job as marketers is to become good at throwing out hooks that grab someone's attention. Then after you have their attention, tell them a story that builds the perceived value of the offer you're going to make them. And then make them an irresistible offer. When you become good at that, you'll be able to write your own paychecks for the rest your life. So your homework right now is to start going through your feed, newsfeed, Instagram, Facebook, Google, anywhere you're going at and start paying attention to the hooks that are grabbing your attention. And then if the hook grabs your attention, click on it. And then go listen. Listen to what's the story. What's the hook on the landing page? What's the story they're telling you? What's the offer? And you start paying attention. This is what funnel hacking is all about, noticing what's happening and watching it and paying close attention because the way you do this is not going to be magic. It's just you're looking at that, and you're figuring out how do I do the same thing? How do I throw out hooks? How do I tell stories? Especially right now, like right now, the media is good at this. Why is media pushing so much fear? Because fear is a great hook I'm not a big believer in let's throw fear out there to try to sell products. But that's what the media is doing. They're really good at throwing out hooks. They call it clickbait. The clickbait, they're trying to get hooks out there. It's the same thing, but ethical, that you're trying to do. And so that should help. So Mateo said, "How do you help us survive in Corona time?" This is how you survive. You need to build a life preserver around your business. The life preserver are customers. Business is all about just getting customers and serving them at the highest level possible. People still have money. There's the false belief like, "Oh no, people don't have money." It's like, no, they still have money. Money hasn't disappeared. It's going to shift a lot of businesses. People are losing jobs and stuff, but it's like, you understand people have money. They're still spending money on things that they need. Like, look at what people are buying now. There's a lot of things people are buying right now. You have to understand that, and you have to protect your company. You have to build a life preserver of customers. And how do you do that? The best way is to get traffic, people, customers to you, which is why I'm going live every single day until further notice about this Traffic Secrets book because that's what I'm talking about. I know I have an interview. I got to jump off. It's happening in three minutes. I want to teach you the concept of creating an “attractive character” for your business. Dave Thomas: I’m sure you remember Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, and his unforgettable commercials. Those commercials made you feel as if he was your own grandpa. Interestingly, Dave hated being in TV commercials. Howard Stern: Stern is considered a radio “shock jock.” Some people love him, some people hate him, but regardless of which side you fall on, almost everyone has heard of him. He is obviously very controversial, offensive, and seldom provides what the average American would consider “quality content.” Who is the attractive character in your business? It could be you as the business owner, it could be a customer, a case study, or someone who used your product or service and benefited from it. First – Your Handle or Tag Line The first element is that your character needs to have some sort of “handle.” A handle is basically your tagline. A tag line is fairly important to a lot of people in brand marketing. Second – Your Back Story The second important element in creating an attractive character is to include some type of back story for the character. Fourth – Character Flaws I’ve found that it is also effective to share your own character flaws with your audience. People who should listen to this show are entrepreneurs

All right, well welcome Coulton. Dude, thanks for having me brother. Yeah, no Coulton esteem is actually - if I can give a few seconds background, probably the people who pushed me the most to actually get started on Retailer Secrets, so it's a big honor to have you on as the first guest. Dude, I didn’t know I was the one that pushed you the most, that's pretty good. I guess the past few months we've had the chance to cross paths a few times and increasingly in the last few weeks too. So, I take it as a sign and yeah, such a thrill man to have you on and being able to spend some good quality time with you. Yeah dude, I’m super stoked for this, thanks a ton for having me. Yeah, totally. Actually, when I met you first at the conference, it was back in February I think. One of the thing I messaged you, I was like "dude, I want to hear your story man". [Laughs] That's totally weird huh. I never thought it would actually happen in a podcast interview, so you know, I thought it could be actually great to start with kind of your back story of how you got started in retail or what got you to start there. Kind of like the context of what happened that you decided to go in to retail. Dude I love it and honestly I love your podcast cover too, like the Retail Secrets. I was like "oh, it looks so good". Thank you. So, how did I get started? Honestly, it's kind of a crazy story; I was in college and it was kind of weird being in college because I was a bit more of an entrepreneur and college was more like, follow these rules and guidelines and do this and that and then I just happened to get one class from a teacher who's actually an entrepreneur too. So it was like fate brought together you know? Yeah. And I had been thinking so much on like a business that I had wanted to start. And I mean, this is like my freshman, maybe sophomore year of college, like I’m ready to go you know? Like I’m taking all these classes, I have nothing to do with like business and this was like my first one. That was actually like kind of like business like tied in and related. And it just so happened that this was the teacher's like first class he'd ever taught and he was - he has his own business that he's running on the side, so I think I kind of got lucky with that because he wasn't straight textbook, he was more entrepreneurial. That is rare. Yeah, it's very rare actually. I was pretty lucky to have that happen. And the whole premise of the class was actually to start a business online and I’m like "OK, Wow!" like that's a big step, I know nothing about online business you know? Like I’m just like barely started a business and alone. And he kind of let me slip with actually starting a business more of like locally instead of having to go straight online, but it was - we'd create kind of like a WordPress, very basic site. Was it a choice of yours to actually wanting to do something more local than online based? Yeah, because I had no idea how to do anything online at the point. At that time, online was just so foreign to me. I knew the potential of it and knew these stuff but I didn't understand how far I could go with it. So I’m like, I’m gonna start locally small and then grow it online, that was my goal, right. And so, you know what, I wasn't even planning on sharing this story but I’m walking around campus trying to figure out this business idea and I would think through all these things - I literally was thinking about near my biodiesel at one time. I don't know if you know what that is, but it's like you go collect like the fryer grease from like McDonald’s and those place and then you refine it into like diesel. So, I was trying to just think of something, like anything I could do and I was walking around and I pull out my phone from my pocket and it was back then when like iPhone 4 was like the thing you know? Yeah. Like those things are straight glass, right? Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I pull it out my pocket and it literally like fly out of my pocket, just like is soaring through the air. I just like chucked it like this. Your slow motion moment. Yeah, exactly. I don't know how it happened but for some reason like it caught my pocket and just - all I remember is seeing it fly through the air totally just slow-motion and it just smashes dude, just slides across the cement. And it's like icey out too you know, so it slid extra-long and it didn't even like roll, like it literally landed like face down and just slid. And I’m like "there's no way that thing made it" like, "there's no way that it is okay". And I’ve had some pretty lucky drops in the past but - That was not it? No, sure not dude. I pull it up and it is just completely demolished, like just shattered all the way across. And I’m like you know what, I’m kind of a - I like to fix my own things, I like to understand how things work and so when I see an opportunity to like see how it works, I’m all over it dude. So I’m like you know what, "I’m gonna pull this apart and see if I can fix it", why not? And so I bought the screen, I bought like some tools with it, some cheap stuff and it shows up and sure enough dude, like two hours later I’ve got it fixed and it was great. Damn! Somehow like sweet lose you know? And then it was literally that week that I had to have like this business idea 100% down. I’m like, "what if I just start fixing phones for people?" like I can do it, like I did it to my own, I can do it for other people you know? Totally. So that was my business plan, like my business idea and I kind of wrote up the plan a little bit and I ordered some inventory, some stock and I had some screens on hand and my teacher happened to have like a marketing agency that would send out text messages locally as well and he's like "bro, I’ve throw it on there for you" like, "do a deal". And so I came up with this deal, started marketing it through his text messaging thing. He gave me like one free one you know, and sure enough, I got like five customers off the first. Oh, damn, OK. Dude, I was like sweet! And you know what's funny, the first guy I ever fix something for, he was like a lifetime customer. I probably fixed 20 of his thing. Oh yeah, really? He was breaking them all the time, it's kind of funny but - dude, I was so nervous the first time, I’m like pulling apart this phone in front of this guy dude. And he's like watching me do it, I’m like this like [Inaudible] you know. Pulled it apart, and like it took me a while and I got it back together and it was fixed and working for him, he was all excited. So, that's kind of like how I started and then it just kind of took off from there, a little bit a little bit and I worked on it as I went through the semester. But you're asking about like retail; well, that's where I started. Two years - I think it was two years later... A year and a half or two later, I had a buddy of mine come to me and he's like "bro, I want to partner with you and like make this big". OK. I was like "alright dude", because I literally by that time, every night, I had one or two people coming by and I was fixing stuff for them and I literally had my own home office, like all this stuff, all this tech - Boxes everywhere. Yeah, it was bad, like it was his total mancave, like just stuff everywhere. And something like you know what, yeah totally. Like he was an awesome guy, I really respected him and we opened up a shop together and had a - while going to college, had our own like retail store and sure enough, we were fixing phones, we were selling phones, we were selling different things. How did that feel? Dude, it was awesome man! It was amazing! There's no better feeling than walking into your own business like - Yeah, I bet, yeah for sure. Dude, I mean like I built this you know. Yeah and you were younger too right? Yeah. So, it must have felt like you're the man. Exactly yeah. Honestly like I got out of it like four years ago. I think it was like four years ago. Yeah, so I haven't been out of it for too long but yeah. Really cool. That's kind of like how I got started and how I kind of got into it a little bit. And did you have like any desire, kind of hidden desire when you started apart from you know being a school project? Like what do you expect for it to be when you started? Or I guess what's the the drawing you had in your head? Yeah, you know what, that's funny because I think a lot of people will like kind of dabble in something and start it and then do a few things and like, "uh, that's not really working as well" or you know, it's not going as far as I’d like it to be and they give up at that point. And for me I’m like "no, I’m gonna keep at this and I want to make it - I want to make it big enough to where I’m in my own place". And yeah, it took a year and a half ish to get there yeah, but I was going to school full-time at the same time. And when I first started, I was also like doing a part-time job on top of it, so I don't even know how I did it but I did. That's awesome. But like, my idea was, I want to make this something and I don't want to just start one business and then keep starting another one, another one and not get anywhere. I want to actually make it something where I can go with it. And I really enjoyed it, so yeah, that helped a lot too. OK, yeah definitely and I’m assuming that when you started and you know, at that age and you have to - like you got like an actual place, like an actual store where people walked in and like - I’m assuming it's a lot of pressure too and like probably some like doubts, a lot of doubts coming, like kind of struggles with juggling with everything you're doing on the side. How did you deal with that? That's a great question man. It was definitely stressful times, it's definitely hard. Even in the beginning when I’m putting so much time into it and my wife's kind of wondering if it's gonna go anywhere farther and I’m like totally like it's gonna make it huge and I really don't know. But like, it definitely can be more of a stress than you can let it be. How do I rephrase that better? You can focus on the negative parts of it and we would address about it or you can plan out what you need to be getting done, what you need to have on hand for cash and kind of plan around it and we go around a lot of those stresses that you're gonna bring upon yourself if you don't. And so, honestly like the way I got around it is we knew what we needed, we knew what we could spend and we knew what we needed to put into marketing different things to go bigger. And so, that helped a lot but still, there was plenty of times where it's stressful but I loved the heck out of it doing it, you know, like it was just so fun that it almost took away a lot of that stress. Yeah, for sure. So it seems like you had a game plan already. Like you had an idea how it would work, you knew where you wanted to take it. Like how far the reality was from that game plan though? Oh dude [Laughter], you know what's funny, us entrepreneurs, a lot of times we'll kind of think of something like "I can accomplish this in this amount of time". I feel like every time I say that, it's never ever anywhere close to that. And you know, actually I was listening to Grant Cardone the other day, and he's like "guys, you need to like 10x that time a lot of the times". Like you need to pull the plan for being able to like stay in business for 10 times longer than what you think, you're gonna be getting return on investment. Totally. And I totally believe it. Like it took us a lot longer to be revenue positive, like that good revenue positive after paying for the store, paying for the parts, paying for wages and salaries, that kind of stuff. It took us a while longer than we expected but we planned it out pretty well and we had to skim at first for a while. So, just make sure that you're not planning on - or like whatever time you think it's gonna take - 10x that. Make sure you have a little bit of leeway on top of that. It's gonna help a ton and, that'll reduce the stress a lot for sure. And I think like everybody can relate so much to that because - and business owners and entrepreneurs in general, like we want things to happen so fast, it is so frustrating to see I guess at the beginning how things actually take so much time, right? Yeah. And the little activities need to happen again and again and then again before it actually starts to form into something that you can see grow, right? Yeah. And one of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make too is they expect everybody else on their team to be just like them. To be like married to it as they are and it's just not gonna happen, like that's not the way the world works you know? Yeah. Yeah, you can you can do some different stuff there. Was that one of the real first challenge that you faced? You know what, funny enough, I didn't quite expect - I feel like I had seen it enough in other people, I knew that it wasn't quite like - it was more of a dream than reality for a lot of entrepreneurs to like hire somebody that's just gonna be awesome and amazing. And if you like - like my business partner was awesome, the guy that we had working for us, just like younger kid in college as well, he was awesome like we got lucky with him. But honestly, they're not gonna know nearly as much as you. They're not gonna be as invested and I understood that before then and so I think it helped a ton knowing that, hey, he's gonna be good but - or like he may be really good but honestly, you got to account for him not knowing nearly as much as you do. Sure, yeah. I think definitely partnerships are hard but the expectations you have in people is actually - it is pretty insane I think for everybody. How do you adjust though? Like from this. How do you adjust from like expectations of those around you? Yeah, as a starter I guess. When you just start and you're I guess disappointed or just raging because it doesn't - people are not putting in the same amount of work as you do right? Yeah, you know what's funny is um, I’ve always been a little bit more of a laid-back kind of chill guy and so I’ve - so that like for me, I knew not to go in with too many expectations. But you are gonna have those times where it's like "come on people", like "you seriously didn't catch this?" you know, like that's easy and it is easy to you. But like communication is huge. Other times it's a lack of the communications. A lot of times it's your own fault that that happened because you didn't put the time into training, you were too busy doing what you thought only you can do. I see that a lot of time with entrepreneurs like "oh, I’m like the best at this, nobody else can do like I can". Actually like yeah. Actually a lot of people can. Yeah, people can take things off your plate that you didn't think they could but [Inaudible] that way. And honestly like the biggest thing that I saw too was showing - in a way like showing the gratitude for what they're doing. Because a lot of times, I’ve seen it happen so many times with entrepreneurs, like they're always upset with everybody that they work with because nobody's doing what they wanted them to do or is working as hard as they wanted them to and so they're just mad about it. Well like, first off when you understand like their expectations, it's different but when you work with them, you communicate and you're like being grateful for what they are doing, it changes the whole scene. Now they don't see you as a dictator, they see you as like somebody they can actually work with. And then a lot of times they're happier, which means they get more done too. But too many entrepreneurs are just stressed out of their minds stressing about everything else that's going on instead of thinking about what's actually going good for them. Yeah, that's a great point. And just for context, at this point, so you were in business for four years, about four years you said? I stopped about four years - I think it was four years ago. It's like three or four years ago. I had been in business at about a year and a half before we got the store and then we had it for about a year after that before I sold it. So, the ending is you sold it though. OK, well let's not spoil it though, we will be getting there. But you know what I’m curious about... And this is a very selfish interview by the way, like I’m really trying to just get in your head and trying to figure out exactly like what happened, how it felt and all of this. And all the questions I ask is just... I’m really trying to put some traits around the person, right? Yeah. And I’m sure around the experience as well like, when you got the store, I’m assuming it's when things picked up a bit or the good stuff which is that stuff right? Like are there any challenges that you faced that you actually didn't expect at all that would ever be a thing? You know um, plenty actually. Oh, I thought. I thought that it would be easier to stock the retail place, well, buy inventory in the first place and holy cow, it was a huge investment upfront just for the inventory that we did get and then the management system, trying to manage what you've sold and how to like reorder, I thought that would be a lot easier, keeping track of everything and then also like the stock that I had in the back, like the parts, I will tell you, I learned a ton about what not to do. [Inaudible] too. Yeah, like there's a ton of small parts, we had way too many of some stuff and then not enough of other things and one thing that I did that I - oh, I really wish I would not have done this but I did it because I thought it was smart at the time; every time we'd get like a new phone like screen or you know, like a new phone would come in that had parts that we didn't have on hand, I would order two of them. So I would price it so that I could buy two parts and my money on the sale. So like, I wanted to make a little bit of money and be able to pay for two parts. So that means, after I would fix the phone, I’d make a little bit of money and I’d have an extra part still in hand. Smart right? Totally. Now [Laughter] dude, I had so many stupid parts in there that I didn't use for months dude, and they were just lying on the shelf and like just depreciating in value, just going down and going down and going down. And then you don't want to turn around and resell it because that takes a lot of time to like get all the pictures, like you know, type out the listings, put them on like eBay or wherever it's at and then try to resell. And then you got to ship it out, like that's just annoying. And so, I had all of these parts that were just like garbage essentially at the end. And what I didn't realize was most people were okay with waiting in a few days for the part come in. Like "hey, you have a specialty phone, we don't have the part in here, I will order it right now, let's get you to pay for it and then it'll be here in a few days, I’ll give you a call". Right. Holy cow! When we started like - you know what's funny, the - I probably shouldn't go too far but the guy I sold it to, I ended up - we like kind of sold it to and I like transitioned into working for him, to like become a general manager and like [Inaudible] and like help him open up more. So it's kind of - yeah, it's interesting but I learned a lot from that too, that was definitely a learning experience. But like his system, when I saw it, I was like "bro, this is way better than the system I had". Like, they didn't buy any extra stupid parts, they knew like "okay, keep this mini [sp] on hand of this this this this and this" and I’m like - just like "oh, maybe I need yeah, to -". Well, back when I was running on myself, you know I’m like, "oh, maybe I should just buy a few more because that's probably what I need to have on hand", but when I sold out, it was like "wow, this is so much more simplified, so much better", and the profits were way higher because of it. For sure yeah. And it makes total sense that I guess, looking backwards you think or you need to look at what the sales actually or what people in majority need and that's what you need to invest more in and the rest is like, "I’m sure they can wait a bit". Yeah, exactly. But I was just trying to stock up so I could have stuff in stock for them and then just that I am - How did you deal with like splitting budget? Did you find like finding customer was an easy thing for you or like did you invest a lot for acquiring customers? Well, I mean, initially I put some money into ads and it was more of like that local marketing using those text messages. I think I did some Google Ad words and I was like "this is dumb, I’m just wasting money", which is kind of - for local businesses a lot of times it is you know? Yeah, for sure. And then what's funny is that it grew pretty fast actually by word-of-mouth. But not just that, like I had a strategy for getting more word-of-mouth, like - Okay, viral. In a way yes, so we would do competitions. We would actually - they have people post like their pictures of their broken phone and see like who had the worst phone and then like get as many people as you can to like it and the one with the most likes wins. And so we'd have people just flooding into our Facebook group, going crazy, dropping all these things because they want a free fix. We told them the winner gets a free phone repair. That is brilliant. And you know what's funny it's like we had a Facebook group and I think I have like a hundred people in there and we did one competition and at the end of it, we had like 800 people on it. Like it was just damn! Like instantly you know. How to get all the students in one spot, right? Yeah, exactly. And then like it spread too and then people were like "bro, check out this phone, like it's totally demolished", you know, and so like it was fun to see. So that was like one thing that we would do. We'd pay in the parts but honestly it was like, it was really cheap because - I mean, granted we lost out on a sale but who knows if they would have actually came in and got it repaired themselves. But then other people that had broken phones knew where to go now, so that's cool but then - so that was one of our kind of strategies that we'd do. And then another one that I do that was my favorite was - I was kind of a little bit of like the monopoly in town. First off because people like - I knew a lot of like kind of the bigwigs in the town because I had worked around it pretty good and so I had become friends with a lot of them. And it's like new people would come in, they'd be like "don't go to that guy, this is your dude, this is the guy you need to go to". So, I kind of had that reputation as well which was cool, but the most favorite thing I do, that really worked very well is I would literally walk into Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, all of like the cell phone places, all the cell phone stores that - like the computer place, whatever it maybe, that were around me, I’d walk in with like a 12-pack of Mountain Dew, a 12-pack of dr. Pepper and like another 12-pack of coke you know and I’d be like "well yo, what's up guys! Hey, I got some like - I just thought I’d come over introduce myself, I got some pop for you guys, I ordered some pizza, like hopefully you guys didn't eat yet, like I got some pizza for you guys for lunch. Just wanted to come and introduce myself and give you guys some snacks since there's some pop and some Pizza and stuff and if you guys ever got anybody that's got a broken phone you wanna - if you need somewhere to send them, like I’d love to help out, so I’m just kind of here for you but here's some pop, here's all this" and like I’d be friends with all these guys. That is smart, yeah. And then, they're like "holy cow, this dude is bringing us like pop, soda, like pizza like -" and I did parties too. Like I’d bring them all in and like - yeah just you know, whatever. And pretty soon, like that one move, I had every store in town referring to me and like me only and they loved me because I gave them like what they wanted. You know, it's cheap bro. Like some pizza and pop, I’d spend like 30 bucks maybe you know. Yeah. And then now all of them are sending all their traffic over to me. And dude, that actually blew us up pretty quick which is pretty sweet. Yeah, I guess you figured out quickly where to go to get the biggest return on investment right? Exactly, yes. Because, I mean, this compared to bidding on keywords one by one click, I mean, that is definitely something. There's no personality in keywords man. Like there's no personality. And you're a local business. Yeah. Now, online it's different and I still don't believe in Adwords I’m gonna say for online stuff but you have to have the publishing part and attractive character part for what you're doing and that's the key. And that's actually a great point. In the new world of entrepreneurship online, we talk a lot about those things, but it's actually true for offline too. I mean, you are the attractive character online or offline, in real life like we actually don't think about this but you are. It's true. And a lot of online strategies like the Dream 100 that I was doing for these stores around me, a lot of those online strategy you can use as well for - And Dream 100 is, to give a bit of context, it's definitely something we actually will touch on a lot in this podcast. But essentially it's playing around with influencers in your space. And if you're a local business, it's got to be the other businesses around you. It's got to be the people who knows your customer, they don't necessarily are competitors. It can be a lot of different types, schools - I mean, we'll talk a lot more about this. This is really powerful stuff. Huge, huge. That made my business, yeah. Yeah, that's what fueled your business and that's what I guess allowed you to make mistakes with ordering too many parts. Yeah exactly. I tracked that, I’d ask people "how did you hear about us?" and a lot of times it was "oh, it's down at the Verizon store and they were like; you gotta go to this dude. It's a modern firm, it's the best", so yeah. That's actually so interesting and I’m thinking of a lot of questions that are actually are a little bit of ahead of this thing. So, I’m sure we'll come back a bit to this because this is so interesting. But one other thing I think - every time I talk to business owners, at one point in the conversation, they tell me about something that drives them nuts. And I find it just hilarious because - in fact, when you deal with people a lot, you've got to be like droven nuts so many times and I wonder what it was for you or for your partners. Something that drove you nuts. You know what's funny is um, there's just always something specific in each industry that people do repeatedly that's like "why? How do you not get this?". You know what's funny for me, like it kind of drove me nuts but I also like laughed at it at the same time, I don't know how many people would come in and literally be like "I don't know what's wrong on my phone, it just died. Like it's dead. Like it won't do anything." and I’m like "oh, that's really interesting, let me look at it." and I would literally like plug it in and turn on, like literally. People would come in or I do a hard reset which is literally like - most people know how to do that, you just hold down like the home button and the top button and that resets it. And I would do that like multiple times a day almost. Like it was sad how many times I would have to do that. Like people who come in and then for like a lot of the Android phones, like it just died. I’d pull the battery out and put it back in and turn it on like all the time. And so like people come in you're like "great, another customer!". Nope, they just don’t know how to use their phone. Yeah and you know what's funny is that it's totally the friendly neighbor type of thing to do you know? Oh yeah. Because for many people, I mean business is built the community we live in right? Through our neighbors and you've got to play that game too, right? Yeah. It's part of building a nice place we all live in. Yap. And you know what's funny is some people will try to capitalize on that. And they'll be like "oh yes, what's wrong with your phone?" or whatever, like "let me go look at it. Oh, that's like 50 bucks", for like me having to [Inaudible] or whatever. And sometimes like I’d clean out the port, like the charging port because they have lint in there and they didn't realize that it wasn't going all the way. That happened a lot and so I could clean it out and I’d plug it in and they're like "oh, you fixed it!" like "holy cow!". And they'd ask me like how much do I owe you and I’m like "oh no, don't worry about it", like I didn't do anything. You know like "don't worry about it" like "you're good to go. If you need anything else let me know". I don't know how many times people would be like "yo, someone told me like you know how to take care of stuff really well and like they loved it when they came in and you helped them out, so like I needed to come over this place and like see you". So it definitely pays back I feel like. For me it did a lot because people knew that I wasn't there to just sell them or make money off of them. Like I didn't see them as a dollar sign, I saw him as an actual person that I wanted to help, so yeah. Yeah. No, totally yeah. Do you feel like - after these three years I guess of business, do you feel like you achieved what you wanted when you got started? Yeah actually. I have achieved - well, since then, I’ve achieved more than I - when I first started, I was kind of limited on what I could see because I didn't understand the whole lot of the online world, I didn't understand a whole lot of that. I guess I wouldn't say I’ve achieved what I was dreaming about totally, but I’ve accomplished - I feel like a more than I was even expecting to you in a way. It's a fun road, I really enjoyed it. That's awesome. I honestly didn't think I’d have an actual store within a year and a half. I thought I’d take longer than that, so yeah. And I loved about what Steve Jobs says when he says that "you can only connect the dot backwards" and I’m sure - and it's some of the questions I totally want to ask. It's about like, now that you connect the dots, you know what I mean, like you've been through it once and I’m sure you have a ton of things that pops in your mind when you talk about those stories you're thinking like "oh dude, I could have done this or I should have done like this right from the beginning". Those are some questions I want to get to but first, I want to understand, why did you stop or why did you get out of retail, what happened? You know what's funny is um, I started listening to this dude named Russell Brunson and it was my dream to go online. And what's funny is I actually sold the company in hopes of starting it online, like business part. So, what's funny is, I don't know if you actually even know this but I had met Steven Larson just like months before I was going through like the sell and transitioning over to working with him. Oh yeah. Just a few months before that even happened, and what's funny is like, we were talking one day, we would talk a lot just on marketing stuff, I’m like "this guy actually gets it, I love it". And one day I was like "bro, do this guy named Russell Brunson?" and he was like "dude, you know who Russell Brunson is?" like "yeah I know who Russell Brunson is". And he's like "nobody knows who Russell Brunson is". This was before ClickFunnels you know. Yeah. So, nobody really - like yeah, he had a following but nobody around me knew who he was in college. It just wasn't a thing then. And so, we had gotten - like we were talking and I really wanted to start a smartphone insurance, like an online website for that and I had been talking to him and he's like - it's funny, we were sitting down in his living room one day and we're talking and I know Steve like... And in college, there's so many opportunities and so many things and so many people trying to get you to like selling you on doing something with them you know? For sure. And I was like "bro, you have like a talent for online stuff that I don't have yet" like I’m working on it you know. And I was like "let me tell you about this business". Yeah, it's not like - it's funny, a lot of people think they're just gonna - like people will steal your business idea, you know, like - I know right, yeah. A lot of times you're the expert that they would need in order to accomplish it, to pull it off. It doesn't happen like that, you know. And so I’m like, "let me tell you about this idea that I have"... And so I kind of ran him through it and I was telling him about like how I wanted to partner with repair stores across the U.S. but have it all online and it would just work online, I would never have any stock, I wouldn't have anything, it would all be taken care of locally. And so, he was like "bro, this is awesome". And yeah, so we actually started that. That was like our first funnel ever. Like Steve's first funnel ever, just like ClickFunnels itself. That is awesome. Yes. That was my hopes, was to blow that up, make it huge, we like broke even and that's cool. We just like shut it down yeah. Well and it makes total sense when you think about like a repair store, I was thinking like a lot of the challenges I guess in retail is like having recurring customers and putting somebody on a continuity program, like insurance for phone repair, like this is pretty freaking cool. It is, yeah, great idea, I loved it. But yeah, I’m happy you mentioned Russell Brunson actually. In the second episode of this podcast, I mention Russell Brunson and the thing he talks about which is " Amateurs focus on the front end and professionals focus on the back end", right? Yeah. And he tells the story of the group on citysmart.com and the vacuum cleaner guy who had this ad on CitySmart and who complained about it working pootie because he didn't make any money. Yeah, I don’t remember this one that much. And it's such an amazing story because it's basically telling about how a lot in business, we think everything we do to acquire customers is the final result, but really the dude probably had to 150 leads from there. Russell Brunson and his wife was one of the leads - Oh wow! And he hired him like seven times after that. And the guy was complaining about how it was a waste of time and money to do that ad. But really, what was fueling his business was literally all the backend of all those people who came in right? Through that offer. And I have a feeling in brick-and-mortar businesses, it's huge right? And we always see like the holiday sales and those stuff and - they're made to bring people in but if you think about repair stores, one of the following problems people gonna have is, it's gonna happen again. And it can be as small as my little like charger thing is broken and you just need to clean it, right? Yeah. And I’m just bringing this up because, first I like to bridge the fact that you've brought in Russell Brunson and Steve Larsen and that's awesome, I love it and I think it brings a lot to think about when you have a local business and you can actually do stuff but they're solving some problems that people have when they come in in the first place right? But you can go further than just why they came in for. Oh yeah. And it's definitely really cool that that was your second business then. Yeah, that's true, oh man. I wish it would have gone - well, we didn't know quite nearly as much as we do now back then but yeah, wish it would have gone a little better than it did but - Yeah. No, for sure. And so um, this is really where the fun is for me, I’m really curious about this part because I know that - we know that you got out of the business but I’m very curious to see if you were to start again, what are some of the things you know you would do differently right away? Ooh, interesting. If I were to restart the repair business? Yes. Not necessarily like a business but the repair business? Yeah or a local business. OK local yes. I actually would have built a lot more hype than I did. So if you follow Jeff Walker, he has a book called "Launch". If you follow him, if you read that book, it helps you understand how businesses do their Grand Openings the right way. Like it's more online but it totally applies for local as well. I wish I would have put way more emphasis and gone around and done the Dream 100 part with all those people a lot earlier than I did. And start a Fire Festival. [Laughter] Not that much. I would make sure that I had things lined up. Oh, that's funny dude. Yeah that was pretty sad. Anyway, so yeah, I totally would have built that more of like the launch of the business, like the opening of it. That way when it comes in, I would have had a more of a solid foundation for like just customers in general coming in and knowing about me. I would have done a lot more ads, different things locally as well to kind of push it. But then, also I wish I would have researched a little bit more about like how inventory, like kind of like figure it out right. Like how to not only manage it but like - Leverage it. Yeah, leverage it and know like - I wish I would have looked at other people's businesses that applied to mine more, so I’d have better ideas, better like kind of direction and know where I’m going. It's so funny like, you're saying Steve Jobs says you can always connect the dots backwards but you can't really connect them forward because you don't know where the heck you're going. Of course yeah. Well if you think about it, like I always - so there's a saying on the internet marketing world with like Russell and Steve, "get a coach, be a coach". Like you want to get a coach and part of like looking at those other people's businesses where they are at, it's almost like getting a coach and kind of seeing the dots that got them to where they're at. And if you can get a coach that's ahead of you, farther ahead of you, they can look backwards on those dots. That's right, yeah. You can look forward to where they're at so easily and so if you get their direction, they can say "hey, I’ve been at that same point that you're at, I can help you connect the dots to get to where I’m at". Totally. Instead of just me shooting from the hip trying to figure out what the heck I’m doing you know. I had kind of an idea of what to stock because I’d been doing it and I only really stock like the iphone parts before I started like the actual brick and mortar and I thought it was smart to stock more and that was a total just dumb idea really to do that. So, if I would have seen that, it would have helped me revenue a ton more and to be able to put more into, not inventory but more into marketing, more into growing the business. I was putting more into marketing or more into inventory than I was marketing and that's a huge mistake. So, I would have done a lot more marketing. I would have done a lot more because a lot of times, we have this like limiting - like mind - like belief that there's only so many customers out there, when in reality, there's way more than you even realize. And so much applicable for when you're local. Oh yeah, totally. They think "oh, I’m local, like it's small, like there's not a whole lot of people out there". There's a lot more than you think there are and if you can be that attractive character, like market the right way instead of just "hey, come buy it from me", like so much better. Yeah. I totally need to put some resources, links for this interview because, I mean, you mentioned Jeff Walker and you're "Attractive Character" and all those stuff are just actually so relevant to building a business rather online or offline and it's big. And I’m sure you've talked about Expert Secrets as part of like Active Character, that's - Totally, Expert Secrets - dotcom Secrets is actually very interesting when you think about it because, it's supposedly the underground playbook for a business online but really, it is much more applicable also offline than we think. I literally read that like right after I had sold the business which makes me mad but - that's right when it came out, I wish I had read it way before that. Yeah. This is probably the one book that I had epiphany after epiphany after epiphany. It's just straight gold bro. Crazy. Both of them. Yeah. Rethink the whole business game um, super super interesting. I have a bunch of little questions, little rapid-fire question I’d love to ask you and yeah totally. So, one thing I guess could be... What is the piece of advice you have given the most or would give and why to business owners? To business owners? Entrepreneurs, yeah. Man, I feel like I’ve given so many different ones. Thinking on the context of this interview though, honestly kind of what I just said a little bit earlier is find those who are successful and model them. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, find somebody who's been on the path that you want to go on. I guess that's actually pretty much what I preach on like my podcast. I try to give people information on there about experts in certain areas of business so that they know who to go to and I think that’s key because like I said, the coach. Like they know, they've seen the path. You have no idea, you're just one foot at a time trying to get there and so, I’d totally say find somebody who's super successful in it, figure out why and try to model it. Totally and that's pretty much what happened when you got - I guess when you sold the business in; you had somebody who came in with more experience and showed you ways to do that, you didn't think about right? Yeah exactly. I had no idea then when I saw it was like "what the heck have I been doing?" like, "you know how much better this would have been?" like "oh man!". You could have sold this business for twice more. I know, right? Like I honestly did not make like very much at all on that sell and it was a very big learning experience, so I’ll just say that. That's awesome. Learn from your experiences, that's what I would say. Yeah, for sure. Any bad recommendations you had in your profession or industry? Ooh! Any bad - you know what's funny to me um, I’ll tell this in a little bit of story. So, as I was in college, I actually was literally going to school in business, my degree was in business management and my emphasis was in entrepreneurship. So I was literally going to be an entrepreneur. Which is kind of funny because college isn’t really like entrepreneurial focused... I don't know. I learned a lot, I didn't learn like a ton of the marketing skills that are out there now. But what's funny is people would ask me, they'd be like "hey, what's your name?" "I’m Colton", whatever or like "where're you from?", you know, all those questions, and then they'd be like "well, what's your degree? What are you going into?" and I’d be like "Oh, business management." and they're like "oh yeah, like what's your emphasis?", "well, entrepreneurship". And dude, I don't know how many times they would look at me and be like "entrepreneurship? Like really?" and I’d kind of get that like look like "oh man, I’m so sorry for you right now". Kind of like the pity look, like "oh, you got to entrepreneurship, like that's kind of suck" you know. And they would literally like - they would - no joke, they would say this to my face. They'd be like "oh, don't they're like 90% of businesses fail?" and I’m like "you're seriously telling me this right now? Like you don’t think I know that", like huh, you know? And honestly if you look at the numbers, 90% of them are like some mom and dad that just started a business for their house or whatever like - and then they shut it down. So there's a ton of the little startups that people are dreaming and then don't really work at it. But at first it like bugged me, you know. I’m like "holy cow! They're right. Like 90% of businesses fail. Like what am I doing? Like I only got a 10% chance and then like a 1% that ever make it past like the million". And so like that got to me at first and then, I remember one day I was thinking about it, I was like "wait a second, I would way rather be at the top and know when the business is gonna fail". But then, literally what I would say back to people and I loved it, I loved saying this, I don't know why like I just - because man, nobody ever thinks about like the next thing. They always think "oh well, based on what I known and the statistic, 90% of businesses fail", right. They never think about like what that means for them, they just know they want to give you the advice. And so, I would literally look at them and be like "oh, don't you know you're gonna be working for one of those 90%?". Like dude, like do you not - like what do you - you will work for a business. If you get a job, it's a business and if you say 90% of them fail, that's no different for me and you, like it's no different. [Crosstalk] chance you lose your job. Yeah, and like, I would way rather be at the top because it's a pyramid, I would way rather be at the top and know when it's going down and have the choice to change it and try to get it from not failing or knowing when to get out, you know what I mean? Dude, this is awesome. And like [Crosstalk] on top of it, so yeah. This is awesome. So a bad recommendation you got was, don't do it? Yeah, a lot of people are like "no, like you can't do that, like businesses fail" and I’m like "obviously not all of them" like people have - there have to be entrepreneurs for there to be businesses in the world. I mean, we wouldn't have any businesses if people were too scared to even start one. But there's gonna be so many people that are just gonna say "oh well, I know based on these numbers or my cousin who has no idea what he's doing in the business, I know that it doesn't work, so you should -". So, don't listen to people. If they haven't done it or if they're not making a ton of money and they're very respected, I would not listen to them because you can get the poor mentality a lot. Yeah, totally agreed. And I mean, I couldn't agree more. I mean, this podcast is really about talking to the people who do their work and not the rest and there is a lot of content out there. Oh yeah, there's a ton and you're gonna get told a lot of stuff that - yeah. Find somebody who's actually doing it yeah, making it. For sure. I know, I find myself a lot of time in situations when I get super overwhelmed and when I get overwhelmed and unfocused, I get nothing done and that makes me really sad. What's some of the thing you do when you feel overwhelmed or unfocused or have lost focus? Like what do you do to get it back or I get reset? So, there's a few hacks that I have. It still happens, there's still days when I can't like get past it, yeah totally. Everybody's gonna have those days, you're human. There's a few hacks though; we listen to a ton of music because music - you know what's funny, I just wrote this quote down actually "all learning is state dependent" and I think all work is also state dependent. Even just slouching back in your chair and like kind of uh... You're naturally like kind of have - it's almost like the endorphins are released for like - not endorphins but like the chemicals are released for - like I need to get tired because I’m like slouching but when you've got high energy music going on, a lot of time we listen to higher beat music that keeps us going. A lot of it is what you eat as well; if you're eating some crappy stuff during the day... I feel like crap after I eat a pizza, you know like - it's natural. But one thing that me and Steve do every day that's kind of interesting is every morning we drink ketones, so there's like keto supplements out there. So we literally every morning drink ketones and we try not to eat until like noonish and then we have more of like a balanced meal because I don't know how many times - back in the day when I was in like high school, like "oh, I’m gonna go grab a pizza for lunch" you know, like eat the whole thing, I’m OK, and then I’m like just dragging afterwards, like dying because my insulin is getting pumped out like crazy and like my whole body's shutting down because my stomach needs all the blood flow. You know what I mean? Yeah, totally. That's like one of the biggest like hacks we do is making sure that you're not putting yourself in the situations that's gonna cause the energy drop. Yeah, totally. Prevent instead of repair, right? Exactly man, that's true, so yeah, totally. It makes sense. What's the thing you love to go buy from the store directly? What's the one thing you like to go buy from the store? You know, I’m not as long as big, but what do you still go do and you love, you know, that thing is your thing, you love to buy it there. Oh that's interesting, that's a good question. This is kind of bad, I had to like stop this for a while but literally like I love switching it up and changing, like mundane everything's the same kind of day it is, driving me nuts, so I love to switch it up every now and then and it feel like really diving and we can't get it to stay back up. I’ll head to the convenience store or whatever and just like get out and get some Sun or whatever it maybe. Hopefully my total crush, like my kryptonite is really like I pick up like an energy drink a lot of the times. Dude, that's awesome. You know a lot of times, I don't feel like caffeine actually affects me that much. I do drink a little bit of it, so maybe that's why it doesn't affect me because I drink a lot it anyway, but I just - for some reason, that's my - and don't get sugared ones, this is sugar free, 100% like you know. Right, yeah. I just will go pick up something to drink, that's not super bad for you even though it would save energies for you which I totally - actually I agree in a way. No, but I get it. That was the best I found. Yeah, that's awesome. What's Coulton up to? What I’m I up too? Yeah. Dude, a lot of things right now. So, as I kind of mentioned earlier, me and Stephen Larsen worked together, we did this stuff. It is funny that we met in college, split up and then came back together. Yeah, so right now honestly like I do a lot of the operations part for Stephen on his side of business. I run a lot of the - we have a whole nother side that teaches MLM [Inaudible] actually do it without bugging their friends and family, how to actually market. I manage like all of that, the group, like I do the lives in there, I do all that stuff. And then honestly, other than that, like I have my own podcast that I keep doing. I’m trying to start a second one which I don't even know I’m gonna have the time for it but I’m doing it. Yeah, that's awesome. Well, look, because you guys pushed me to start so much, I’ll say you should start it too, the second one. Yeah. I’ve already got a bunch of the content, like recording and getting it together, so I’m excited about it. That is great, yeah. OK, so the next big thing is the podcast coming up soon? Yeah. Cool. And what is the impact that you would love to have in this world or in your neighborhood? That's actually funny because I’ve been trying to get clear and clear on that and I think one of the biggest - one of the things that drives me, that I would love to have an impact on is literally helping - not helping but showing the beginners, a lot of the people who are getting started online, that they're really the person that's in the way and helping them understand - it's hard to say this because I don't want to get into mindset stuff too much but like, you dictate how you're gonna end up going. Like you're - what you believe you can accomplish has a lot to do with what you actually accomplish. And so, if I can help people get past their own crap and like understand how much they can actually do and actually accomplish, that would mean a ton to me, to help people go farther than they think they can. Totally. And that's something you already do, so that's great that you get to do it more and more and I’m sure you'll be able to help a ton more people. Dude, I hope so, I hope so yeah. "sales letter" "then vs now" "get out of your own way" the attractive character Ironically, the only real way to "know thyself", is to continually "sculpt thyself"... ...Don’t worry, I’m still here. I did kinda die, but only in a metaphorical way so that I could birth my attractive character - and create a then vs now sales letter story to sell my upcoming Mastermind with James Smiley and Rachel Pederson. Here’s how I announced my death on Facebook: … it was an attention-grabbing way to tell my audience about the Mastermind that’s gonna be happening the day before Funnel Hacking Live on Feb,18th in Nashville, Tennessee. I didn’t just blast an email out to everybody saying, “Hey, I’ve got this mastermind. You wanna come? Click the link." ...Because that's the easiest way to promote like an idiot. It’s annoying and not at all entertaining. Selling is much show business as it is anything else. When I see somebody promoting their stuff by saying; ”Here's the link, Just buy. Click, click, click, click, click!” I don't want to buy. I HATE that crap. If I don't see that from somebody it makes me wanna buy without even knowing what it is - because they get it. I get asked all the time, "Stephen, what's the one thing people can focus on to be a good funnel builder?" My answer is always: “TELL STORIES.” Quite often it doesn’t sink in, and they ask again, "No, no, no. I mean funnel building. I'm talking about ClickFunnels editor stuff!" I'm like, "Yeah, storytelling..." I'm telling you right now. the editor is so freaking easy. If you can't sort the editor out, you probably shouldn't be on the internet.The ClickFunnels editor is so simple. That's NOT where people struggle. Take it from the dude who’s coached thousands of people in this. People don't struggle with funnels because of ClickFunnels. People struggle with funnels because they have no idea how to sell and they have no idea what makes a sale happen...HOW TO LOSE A SALE The day after OfferMind, I had a cool opportunity to train the new speaker team for ClickFunnels. The biggest thing I helped them realize was that the thing that will screw your chances of a sale up is believing that the sale depends on how well you know ClickFunnels; what it integrates with and all the features. The quickest way to NO SALES. If you’re mentioning your product a lot, my guess is that you're focusing on the features of your product. #You’re selling with the wrong script. In fact, you're probably not using a script. People will fight you on features, so instead, you need to cause an emotional epiphany in your potential buyer's brain. So now, I want you to start thinking about what you're doing when you sell... "Do you actually know what causes the sale? And can you craft a sales letter that helps you to close your sale instead of hindering it?" One thing you’ll notice as I go through my sales letter is how little I actually mention the actual mastermind. I don’t talk about: Who’s speaking first How long they're gonna talk Scheduling The time of the event The exact location ....because the sale always happens without too much focus on the actual product. GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAYIf you guys are ever in a pinch and have to write a script fast, then the script that I followed was the "then vs now theme." It took me about two hours to write my story - which is pretty standard if you're gonna cover all the stuff...Honestly, there are some things I would change, but it's good enough. And it's good enough because I used the Epiphany Bridge script. I want you to understand that making money has nothing to do with how well you know the thing you're selling. It has everything to do with the script itself and the emotional connection it creates. The sales message is where you make the money. I love the webinar script... I use it for all kinds of selling. There's a crucial part right at the beginning of the webinar script which I call the two introductions: First of all, we need to introduce the subject, and then you need to introduce yourself as the speaker. These introductions are NOT always: At the beginning Together In the same order But, at some point, you have to say: "Hey, this is who I am." “This is the topic.” Every once in a while I've seen scripts where people combine the two introductions - and that’s totally fine. After you’ve done the two introductions, you can use the “then vs now” method. It's one of my favorite themes inside of any sales script, and it's one of my favorite ways to tell a story. I used a similar strategy to the one I described when I revealed how I win affiliate contests - because, frankly, it works! My strategy comes in two parts: I'll write a massive Facebook post - which proves to the Facebook algorithm that it's actually worth something and people are gonna have some opinions - so they'll work a little harder to share it. I make sure I use a cool like feature image (see above). Then take that post and turn it into an email with the same call to action. I don't push to Facebook. I just push to the same CTA. ClickFunnels lets you use all kinds of emojis and stuff like that in the emails - so I use those too. … So now, let me show you how I used the “then vs now script” to write that sales letter for my latest mastermind. HOW TO WRITE A NON SUCKY SALES LETTER So the first thing I need to do: If you're scrolling through Facebook, you're trying to get a dopamine hit and distract yourself... So I'm gonna do a serious injustice to my cause if I don't let you be distracted. So I'm gonna do my best to grab your attention… (and this works for email subject lines too): It's the first thing you're gonna see… and then there's skull and crossbones emoji right there, and it says; ...Right up at the top, it says, "Mastermind." So you click right there, it'll bring you straight there.(We're capping the event at 100 people, just tellin' you. It was half full a few weeks ago - so I don't know if there’ll be any place let now. That's not a scarcity play I'm just lettin’ you know the score…) ...Now I’m gonna paint some ‘thens’: I don't know if you know this about me, but this is all true stuff … I'm just gonna be raw and tell you, I would go home and wonder, "What the heck am I good at?" I've learned that a lot of entrepreneurs actually struggle this same question. As entrepreneurs, we're often very good at putting teams together and leading and organizing people… but that's a hard talent to leverage in a fifth-grade playground... It can be challenging growing up.. or even into early adulthood, trying to figure out what the heck you're good at? So just know, you're not alone. Then, I put a whole bunch of stars in a row - so I can break the pattern: This is literally a then vs now statement: "Stephen WAS all of those things, but Steve is NONE of them." Next, I go FULL ON in the NOW: BECOMING AN ATTRACTIVE CHARACTERSteve is a freak of nature who is uncommon amongst uncommon people. Some people reach out and ask, "Stephen, you're about to go speak on stage, are you nervous?" Of course, I'm freaking nervous, come on. Yeah, I'll get nervous, of course, I do. You have to understand, I've created Steve. It's a separate persona that I totally step into. I'm not always in that persona, but I've learned that persona. The attractive character in my business is me - but it was not a natural attractive character.I'm trying to help you understand that you can craft your own attractive character. The Attractive Character is not something you need to step into the business already knowing. I almost never see that. I see entrepreneurs who: Still sucks at talking Do not know how to lead Have no polarity, and are afraid to show real opinions. I'm showing you how I wrote a then vs now script, but I'm also helping you to understand that you can develop a new you. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE HATERS? Steve almost welcomes the haters and their mud so he can laugh in their face, stare in their eyes, and steal their soul. ... that line goes through my head a lot. Haters used to bother me a lot. I was like like "Oh crap, another hater I gotta go deal." It's not true at all anymore though. I love David Goggins. He swears like a freaking animal. If you're offended by swearing, Do not listen to him - but he talks about that concept a lot. THE DAY THAT STEVE KILLED STEPHEN I hate pop culture songs that sing about how life’s a pity party: ‘I loved you, and then you changed.’ I'm like that is the stupidest song I've ever heard in my entire life. Of course, they changed after you fell in love. It's life. If that's not how it's supposed to be - we'd all still be wearing diapers and drinking out of a bottle. Most of the time when someone feels a lack of progression in their life it's literally because they‘re doing everything they can to keep themselves from changing because they're afraid of what's gonna happen next. Life is change. Don't fight it....And what's cool is the person who wins is the person who leans into that change and steps forward and says, "You know, what, I'm totally cool. I don't know how to build a funnel. I don't know how to podcast. I don't know how to be the attractive character, but I'm willing to suck.” ...That’s the person I love to work with. REAL TALK WITH STEVE LARSEN These were the conversations going on in my head. I think it's stupid we make fun of people that talk to themselves. I talk to myself all the time. Every time success has required their rebirth. Let that sink in. It's a true statement, my friends. That's a huge deal. Read it again. I always thought I'd be coaching people on marketing tactics. We all did when I started the Two Comma Club coaching program as the coach, but I don't get much of a chance to teach marketing because I need to help people rebuild their brain and their relationship with themselves. MAKE IT HARD, COACH I know 100% that one of the major reasons why I am standing in front of the camera right here filming this for you is because of my mentality. When I walked in to ClickFunnels, was very much like, "Dude, Russell, give me your hardest thing. Your hardest thing. What is your hardest thing today? Give it to me." I remember the first few times, I think it was kind of awkward for him because it's not a normal mentality. Employees do not ask their employers that question. I say, "No, I'm serious man. What's the thing you are least looking forward to today?" And he would look through his list of tasks, and hand me his hardest task that day. ...And that meant the possibility of failure - which that happened a few times. But man, it's like such a better way to approach life. So if you're still working for somebody else, don't be, no pity party. Instead, start asking your employers, "Give me the hardest task you've got." Just for the sake of the growth. Wanna here the awesome quote I came up with in the shower (total transparency here ;-)) Ironically the only way to know thyself is to sculpt thyself. A lot of you just don't qualify yet to deliver the thing you're trying to do, meaning the market's not gonna believe you. You haven't sculpted enough. You haven't created yourself enough. You need to get real and raw. ...like I said, this is *Real Talk* with Steve Larsen ;-) As soon as you get real, and you're willing to take on a new challenge that you don't quite understand how to do. There’s an emboldening that happens inside of your soul. Your mind expands and you become a new you. You become more of who you already are. It's really cool, I love watching it. It's one of my reasons why I do what I do still. Here’s what I wrote next… Let me give you an example… I just got asked to do another project. I'm not allowed to talk about it yet, but I have to admit, I'm a little bit stressed out about it. It's due in three weeks, and I don't actually know how I'm gonna pull it off. But I know I will. I just haven't wrapped my brain around it yet. But when opportunities like that pop-up, I know that they’ll make me grow… so I say “Yes.” Today, a multi-hundred millionaire reached out and asked me to do some stuff. I've been expecting the call, and I've been working the relationship. I knew it was coming up and I knew I needed to say yes. But I'm not gonna lie; I'm not actually equipped to do some of the things that he was asking for - so I'm building an internal funnel agency to build my own projects. I'm trying to answer the question, "How can I increase my speed right now?" I don't know the answer to that, and I'm okay with that. Welcome to entrepreneurship. Welcome to growth. Welcome to growth that's so customized that it changes you. That's why I love the game so much. I'm going back to the script here… ...And all these people commented #ANewMe. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. EMOTIONAL SELLING ...so did you notice how little I actually talked about the detail of the event itself? I don’t talk about: Who’s speaking Scheduling The time of the event The exact location … I don’t talk about any of that stuff ... That stuff matters like way down the road. Instead, I got raw. I got real. I wrote this from the heart. I really am the least likely success story. If I’d come from another angle, and said, "Yeah, come learn from me." There’s an audience that appreciates and wants that… But I’ve found that most people who are just starting out or who haven’t had success in the game yet - don't want that. It actually stresses the crap out of them, freaks them out. And frankly, that's not my personality… So a 'then vs a now' script based around my personality is a great way to connect emotionally. I build a story and craft an emotion to help you realize that I'm just a few steps ahead a lot of people on this journey. I understand where people are on the path, and I build that connection and rapport with the script. There's a lot of angles you can use as stories, and Dot Com Secrets talks a lot about those different angles and stories you can use in your attractive character in your storylines. I am the crusader attractive character type. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you gotta go read Dot Com Secrets and ExpertSecrets to find out what I'm talking about as far as the script writing style. I wouldn’t say I'm like a pro sales letter writer, but I know enough about what makes things sell to let me work quickly and seamlessly this past year. Attractive characters are everywhere in life not just in business. Look at golf, for instance, right now I don't know any names on the leaderboards from week to week. Attractive characters that we want to follow and we know their story. Us as entrepreneurs have to create attractive characters. Start creating your story and get out in front of your audience daily. What's going on, everyone? It's Steve Larsen, and today, we’re gonna talk about how to compete with your Attractive Character. I just spent the last four years learning from the most brilliant marketers today. And now, I've left my nine to five to take the plunge and build my million-dollar business. The real question is, how will I do it without VC funding or debt, completely from scratch? This podcast is here to give you the answer. My name is Steve Larsen, and welcome to Sales Funnel Radio. Guys, I'm pumped for today. This could be a bunch of fun. A lot of guys know, I was really shy for a long time, right? And I've mentioned that many times, and some of you guys have said, that's not true, Stephen. No way that's true, right? But I was. I was really shy for a long time. I would say I even had a near-clinical fear of adults. You know, I would see an adult, and I would physically move in a different direction - I did that for a time. Even into my early 20s, I was pretty shy. It's not that I was like cowering, or that I wouldn't speak to anybody else... It's just that I was doing everything that I could to not engage with human beings. I don't know why I was that way. It’s not that I was really reclusive… or that I was sitting back all the time, going, “ugh, it's a person.” That's not how I was at all. But there was no way I would be getting on stage now. There was no way I would ever do something like a podcast. Just the thought of that would freak me out. To have a camera on my face right now, there's no way. When I finally became cognizant that I was this way, I started noticing all these business people who were amazing leaders. I’d be, “oh my gosh, check out those guys... Look at him, he's so impressive. He speaks and things sway. I wanted to develop that skill. I started doing things like door-to-door sales for the explicit reason of learning how to sell in scary environments. I started doing telemarketing, for the explicit reason of going in and learning how to sell hard in environments where you're constantly getting rejected. I don't know that everyone has to go through this kind of thing, but for me, I chose to start molding who I was... and who I was trying to become. It was a really challenging thing to go through. As I started getting more into it, I noticed that my ability to speak and to give sales messages started improving. Several years before I started working for Russell, I realized that I needed to get even better at this whole stand and deliver concept. I wanted to work out how to become… I don't wanna say, ‘a leader’… How to become... a ‘follow-able person’. It's kind of like saying leader. Anyway, but I was trying to figure out how to do that. Because from my background, and where I was coming from - that was an insanely hard thing to do! I would take my computer and find videos of people on stage. I did this specifically with Russell Brunson's stuff. This was way before we ever knew each other personally. I would take his videos - videos of him on stage, and I would go in front of a mirror, mute the video of him, so I could see him, but not hear him. And he'd be making all these gestures and I would mirror him. I would mimic him. I’d be moving around all over the place, mirroring and mimicking everything he was doing. It was so weird. It was awkward. I know that it’s weird, but it was what I needed to start breaking out of the shell I was in.. It’s how ‘Steve Larsen’ was born. Fast forward, I was working for Russell, sitting next to him; I was about 40-ish episodes into Sales Funnel Radio... We were running this thing called the FHAT event - the Funnel Hackathon Event. People would pay 15 grand for three days, and I would teach for hours. I mean, man, it was a long freaking time! Well, the very first FHAT event, we were vetting out the content, we were making sure that everything was awesome and solid. Then, right before Russell goes on stage, he turns around at me, and he goes, "Hey dude. Do you wanna introduce me?" I always make it a habit to say “YES’ - especially when someone with a lot of influence asks me to do something… My knee-jerk reaction is to say “YES!” and then figure out how to do it later. This attitude has brought me to some cool places in life. At the FHAT event, the room's filled with loads of people - very successful people.There's like 60 people in there, and many millions - tens of millions - hundreds of millions of dollars, collectively inside of that room. There's a lot of Russells inner circle - and they know what the heck they're talking about, right? I was like, crap, I gotta get on and introduce… The whole role of somebody who introduces somebody else is merely to raise the state of the room so that when the speaker comes on, they don't have to raise the state of the room. They can just walk on and start presenting. Otherwise, the speaker spends a whole bunch of time to do that. Russell told me, “that's your role.” I was like, crap! How can I do that? It's not like Russell's low energy. How do I introduce Russell Brunson in a way that suits who he is? That suits his audience? It was very challenging for me. I remember sitting there. I mean, he asked me three minutes ahead of time, to go on and do this. Immediately I was like, okay, is there a script? Is there like a format that good introducers use to bring on other prominent people? There's gotta be something. What can I do? Russell walked over, and he said, "Hey, just make sure you raise the state of the room- that way, I don't have to." I was like, oh crap. Okay, another huge task. Okay, sweet. Inside, I was like, oh, crap! He could tell I was stressing out. He knew that I had done all that stuff, like stand in front of a mirror with his videos muted, just moving around and mimicking what he's doing. He knew I’d done door-to-door. He knew I’d done telemarketing. He knew I’d done a lot of stuff and become good at them so that I could break out of my shell. Instead of fight the fact that I was in a shell, I accepted the fact, and just did things to come out of it. Knowing this, Russell turned to me, and this is what he said, and this is the reason why I wanna share this with you... Because it really, really, really matters: He turned to me, and he said, he said, "Dude, "You model me. It's quite impressive how you model me. You model me to the ‘T.’ You do everything that I do. You model me so well, but you’ve got to have your own voice eventually. Just do it how you’d introduce me." It's funny because I knew that answer, but for Russell to say it ‘in that way’, I really took notice. At that time, I'd already been publishing. I'd already been doing a whole bunch of stuff. I would already say that I had, quote, unquote, found my voice. However, when he said, dude, you gotta have your own ‘isms’, you gotta have your own character, you gotta have your own thing, I started thinking through, what makes ‘me’ me? These were all quick thoughts that were hitting me as I'm about to walk on stage. I don't remember what I said, but it went great. The energy in the room got really high. It's half the reason I yell like crazy, guys. Those are all little things that I do on stage before bringing somebody big on, and, and it's a bunch of fun. What does this have to do with anything? It has to do with everything.... Your business competes in the marketplace based on how much value it provides, right? You're very valuable if you answer a lot of questions, if you solve things for people, if you give things that people want, if you give things that people need (I suggest you go for the wants, not the needs - You’ll make more money). However, let’s start thinking through what value your business gives to the ecosystem - to the market? Because that's where you compete on the business side - with your strengths. How can you be the best? How can you deliver more? How can you be more than the other guy? How can you do things in an entirely brand new, unique way? That's what the business side competes on. Strengths. Your Attractive Character, however, doesn’t compete on strengths. Isn’t that interesting? Let me explain… In the first office that I was a part of with ClickFunnels, Russell and I would sit back to back. His computer and my computer screens were facing each other, so I could see his reflection in my screen... I'd be building these funnels - In the first two months, I was totally mute. I didn't wanna say anything. I was like, this is freaking Russell Brunson, like, oh my gosh, look, Y'all, oh my gosh. He's gonna melt me with his marketing zeroes and ones, huh! I’d see his reflection in my screen 24/7 right there, I was like, don't say anything or you'll die. That was my mentality. I remember my desk was a picnic table that was slightly too high, and my chair was slightly too low - so I get a lot of back pain 'cause I have kind of long arms. These details are burned into my head... I remember the way that room smelled, I remember the way it looked, I remember everything about that room. Over to my right, there was a book. I never read it, but it was called: ‘How The World Sees You.’ And on the back, it said two things. One of them was, “Don't compete on your strengths. Compete on your differences.” I thought that was really interesting. The other one was, “You don't learn interesting, you unlearn boring.” Now, I wanna look at those two phrases real quick. You have to understand that this is HOW your Attractive Character competes. On the business side, you compete on strengths. Your business, the systems, the offer, the marketing. But with your attractive character (which marketing bleeds into for sure) - You don't compete on strengths! Somebody will always be better, faster, stronger, right or better-looking, right? Does that make sense? Someone's always gonna be more talented. Someone's always gonna be boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. So on that measure, your attractive character will die. It’s the fastest way to entrepreneurial suicide; to start competing with your attractive character on strengths because it’s never gonna be enough. You start comparing yourselves to ideals. The problem with an ideal is that it’s fluffy, it's fictitious, it's out there. There's no way for you to know if you'll ever hit it... And because of that, it's not measurable - so it's not attainable. As an entrepreneur you start spinning your wheels and comparing yourself to an ideal. To strengths. Don't do that. Don't do that. I did that for a long time. I'm speaking from experience with this stuff. I did that for quite some time. It sucked. It was hard because you start saying things like, “man, I don't know if I'm ever gonna make this. Am I ever actually gonna be successful with this?” Right? Every one of us has said that. Come on, I know we all have, right? Am I ever gonna, is something wrong with me? Oh my gosh, another two people made a million, you know, made the two comma club today. Crap. Gosh, dang it. Are you kidding me? Right? What's wrong with me? Something must be wrong with me, because it’s not the funnel, it's not this, it's not that. It has to be me, right? And the entrepreneur starts to blame themselves because they're comparing themselves to where the other people are. They're comparing themselves to another person's business. That's a stupid comparison. Don't do it. The way to move forward on the Attractive Character is to compare YOU to YOUR history. That's it. That is what keeps you from, from self-sabotaging, from literally burying yourself. It's like your brain eventually turns submarine mode, and it doesn't know how to go back up. You start sinking-and going further, and further down. Oh crap, I can't get this, something must be wrong with me, because all these other people are getting it done. You're comparing themselves with somebody's business. Stupid, dumb comparison. Because while a business competes on strengths, an attractive character competes on DIFFERENCES - YOU compete on your differences. It is so much easier. My gosh, guys, you’ll save your sanity. If you guys haven't been following me on Instagram, (I think you'll like it)... Monday morning, I always yell, and it's exactly what it sounds like. I yell. I get up, and I yell, whoo, yeah. What I've been doing lately is having a whole bunch of you guys yelling back. In the the highlights - Russell's in there yelling, Peng Joon's in there yelling - it's really fun. Go check it out if you want to; you'll see what I'm talking about. But why do I do that? It's because it's what I would do anyway. I'm just me, but louder… That's the real trick with becoming an attractive character. This internet business, does not exist for you to have to change into someone you’re not... Meaning there's this facade, right? There's this facade about what it means to be successful. I don't want any expensive fancy cars. Heh. Right? I'm not living in a mansion, urgh. Right? And there's this facade that's complete garbage when it comes to what it means to be successful on the internet. There's this persona that you have to go live. It's crap. It's complete garbage. Don't believe it. It doesn't make sense. For those people who are doing it because that's who they truly are, great, I'm not poo-pooing on that. Like, that's great, okay, stay that course. That's awesome. What I'm saying is those of you guys who are not naturally that way - you don’t have to pretend. If you want those things, that's awesome, but you don't have to pretend to be someone different to be successful. I'm saying this because I've heard a lot of people say things to the equivalent of, I don't even own a briefcase, how can I be successful, urgh. Right? It's like, what? That's not what the game's about, right? Your business competes on strengths, but your Attractive Character competes on differences. What makes me ‘me’ is how I compete; so I listen to music more openly, 'cause I'm always listening to music - my kind of music. I don't care if people don't like it because it’s one of the things that makes me different. On the business side, I can't say that though. When it comes to products, I need to have slight reactions to what the market wants me to build for them… However, for the Attractive Character, that's not how it works. I can do all the quirky things I love to do. The little character traits that I have that make me a bit weird... those things that I don't necessarily want other people to see... Man, those are your freakin' superpowers. That's the stuff to go publish about. Right now, I'm yelling into a camera in an office by myself. It would be weird for other people to come to see this. I don't care. Right? For a long time, I would've cared though, 'cause I had that same perception. I was like, this is what it means to be successful in this business; I have to go have X, Y and Z over here. I need to have this kind of suit, and I must look this way, I must act this way. I must be slightly recluse from all of these other people and set myself apart… (I still have to be a little bit reclusive sometimes, when I'm around other people, just to recharge, but it's not for the same reason. Mentally, I have to recharge, 'cause there's a lot of questions 24/7 at events, you know. Whoo, and I'm like, whoa, I gotta separate and isolate for a second) When I hear somebody say, “I don't know that I can be successful because I have a stutter” or I have this limitation or that limitation, or I'm dyslexic, or I have ADHD. Man, that’s just wrong! I had this counselor once tell me that I have a lot of tendencies of ADHD. And for a long time, I used to think that this was a hindrance. That's garbage. It's bullcrap. Did you know that most billionaires are dyslexic? Seriously, go look it up. Richard Branson - the guy's dyslexic - it didn’t stop him. Whatever it is about you - I'm not just talking about dyslexia, and you know, ADHD and stuff, whatever - I don't care what it is. Whatever it is about you that makes you feel incompetent- is actually a superpower. Stop acting like it’s a hindrance. The beauty of the internet is that you can become who you are, even more, louder. You don't have to change you - just be a louder you. That's what the attractive character is. Instagram's kinda fun, 'cause I can do a lot of the little snapshots of what I'm doing throughout the day. I have a little dummy down there that I beat the crap out of. I'm gonna name it ‘Poverty’, so I can beat the crap out of ‘poverty’ every morning. It's really fun. But no one's telling me to do that. That's my own creativity and my own little weirdness kicking in. That's great for my Attractive Character. What's funny is that if you try to go and you compete on strengths, if you try to be something that you’re not - IT WILL SINK YOU. You’ll have a tough time connecting with your audience. Your audience won't feel your authenticity if you're not being true to yourself. People can smell it. They can. When you start having thoughts like, I don't know that I can do this because I have, blank. I have a limitation because of, blank. I have a limitation because of, blank. Those things are the things that you should be publishing about! Not that it's a pity fest. Not that you're walking around all the time, saying like, oh well, follow me, I'm terrible at this. I'm awful at that. That's not what I'm saying at all. The reason I can push so freaking hard, is because I do have some ADHD tendencies. I’ve got a lot of friends who can't do that. It is a superpower. When I talk about this, all of you guys who feel the same way - you reach out to me and you say, I getcha. I feel ya. I'm with ya. I understand what you're saying. If I wasn’t willing to expose my vulnerabilities - the things that I feel I'm limited on - I wouldn’t be able to connect with you in the same way. Does that make sense? That is why I tell everyone to publish so much. Don't take on a persona that doesn’t feel like you. Just be you - louder. While businesses competes on strengths and the ability to give results, your attractive character competes on differences. You don’t need to compare yourself to somebody else. If you're comparing your business to somebody else’s, I don't see a massive problem with that, as long as you feel like you’re not your business. You know what I mean? Sometimes in an agency setting you are the business. Well, that can be dangerous. You'd be like, well, I suck at this, I suck at this. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, no. Bad. The reality is that you don't have the ‘systems’ in place to get those things done. That's not YOU! It’s your business. Right? So get in the habit of running your critiques through a filter. You need to ask’ “Is this a business-oriented adjustment, or is this just, who I am?” On the business side; judge, and critique away. It’s your baby and it's always broken. Don't fall in love with it. But when you head over to the attractive character side; don't judge yourself on how you’re different. Your difference is your superpower - it’s what lets you be you. It's what calls out your tribe and provides the blanket of security for the people who follow you. What makes you attractive, what makes you followable, is your ability to be open with the things that you're not amazing at, your little quirks, the things that you ‘like’ or ‘don't like’ - the polarity that you have… When I say, “I hate this” or “I love this” - It's very polarizing. When I say “I freakin' hate VC funding, I can think of 99% of businesses that probably didn't need it.” I understand that some people are not gonna like that, and that's okay because it's me. I'm totally fine with that. So as you think about your attractive character, don't judge yourself. Don't come over here and be like, oh, I should change, I should be this, I should... I'm always for self-improvement, but don’t tie your self-worth to the worth of your actual business. Don’t tie your self-worth to the value of your offer, or how many people you’ve helped - You are NOT the business. If you’re in this scenario, you need to start separating your business from your attractive character. You can be an attractive character of the business. Every business should have one. However, you are NOT the New Opportunity. You are NOT the Offer. You are NOT the Cause. You ARE the Attractive Character. Every mass movement needs an Attractive Character, a Cause, and an Opportunity. However, the attractive character is in its own category. The Cause and the Opportunity are separate too. They are not judged on the same report card as the Attractive Character. Anyway, I think I've beaten this one down like crazy. I just wanna help entrepreneurs to stop beating ourselves up. If you’re not like everyone else, then good, great, awesome. Be louder about it! You'll find it’s actually an accelerant. It's a catalyst, an enzyme. *Other synonyms*. So that you can go forward faster. Boosh! But only, if you're willing to be open about your differences - that's the key- and the caveat. Again, it’s not a pity fest. That's not what I'm saying at all. Those little quirks are the things that make you amazing and unique. Anyway, I think I've said the same thing like 12 times now, but it's because I'm trying to hit it home! Now, I challenge you to sit down and start thinking about what makes you different. Either write it down - or just start being cognizant of it. I like guns - there's a sniper rifle behind the camera right there. It's an Airsoft sniper rifle. I don't care about being politically correct - because it's me. So start writing down these things. Start being cognizant of who you are - and then be willing to share those differences. It may require you to drop a wall that you’ve been building because you're afraid of people seeing the true you. “I'm not clean all the time… Sometimes I'm a slob, heh.” Whatever. I don't care, okay? My garage downstairs, it's not painted. Urgh, it shouldn’t be on Instagram because it's not painted, right? I hate that kinda garbage. On stage the other day we were talking about the stack slide. We were talking about using certain scripts, and I was talking a little bit about this… There's one great therapy known to help people get past the fear of doing these kinds of things. It's really interesting. So if you guys raise your arm out at a 45-degree angle in front of you. Next bend, right, at the elbow. So your arm's out 45 degrees, starting bending at the elbow, and then get your hand, kind of like right by your face. Kind of like right by your cheek right here. While you have been watching this, while you have been listening to/ reading this, without you knowing, I have ‘ninja-ly’ (that's a new word)... Like a ninja, I’ve placed the most deadly spider on your face from South Africa, and it's gonna bite your face. Okay, get that thing off. Just slap that face. Yeah, right, get it done. Get it out there, right? I couldn't tell if it was offensive when I did it on stage, or if it was actually really cool. But you got the point, though? Just buck up a little bit, and you guys are gonna be awesome. I care about you so much, okay, so much. I think about you guys like, 24/7, and that's 'cause when I look back and see where I've gone, both from a revenue and a business standpoint - it's humbling, right? But I was not expecting all of this other stuff ‘mentally’ to have to happen. Am I an attractive character? My attractive character has now come to a point and a spot, where it is... My business doesn't move past the level of my attractive character anymore. I now have to develop individually, personally, mentally because my business will not move past the level of my attractive character. It's fascinating. Anyways, guys, I hope that that was helpful. Today is a very, very special webinar day. Alright everyone, I’m pumped for today because today there is a webinar happening, selling Clickfunnels, and guess what? I’m not the one selling it. I’m freaking out, I’m so excited. There’s a principle inside this that I want to share with you guys that I think is groundbreaking, life changing, business evolving amazingness, so I’m excited to share with you during today’s episode. So hopefully if you guys have read the Dotcom Secrets book, or the Expert Secrets book, or listened to me talk at all over the last decade of my life as I have been talking to entrepreneurs and sharing the most important things. One of the most important things I talk about is building out your attractive character. The attractive character is the personality of the brand that will be communicating with your audience, that builds rapport, that sells and does all those kind of things. And it’s interesting, because the flack I get often from people who hear me talk about attractive characters like, “Oh well, if you focus your business on attractive character, you can’t ever sell your brand.” And it’s kind of annoying, but alas, those critics are all right. It is very, very difficult to sell a personality brand. It’s only been done a few times that I’ve seen and it’s hard. Because if you are the personality, it’s really hard to sell the brand. But then on top of that, having the personality is what lets you build and scale a brand at record heights, faster than you ever could without it. So where is the middle ground here? That’s the thing. When we were building Clickfunnels, I thought a lot about this. Someday Clickfunnels is probably going to be worth, I don’t know, a bajillion dollars or more, and maybe when I’m like 90 I want to retire and it would be cool to sell it at that point, but it’s going to hard if 90 year old Russell is the dude on the pitch videos. And they’re like, “Russell, when you die, so does Clickfunnels.” That’s not good for anybody, including me. So I was searching, how do we do this? How do we do it? And I remember before we launched I was like, okay, we’re going to use attractive character because we know it works, and it’s going to be the fuel that launches this thing into the stratosphere. But I was like, long term it can’t just be me. It has to shift. I didn’t know how that was going to work, or I didn’t know behind it, but I was like, I know we’re going to do that. We’re going to hopefully build a community where other people become funnel experts, other people are teaching and doing this stuff, it’s not just Russell. And I’ve noticed, as I’ve been watching, that’s happened. A lot of what’s been cool is other people are teaching and doing it. If you look at most of the industries, there chiro guru’s teaching funnels now, there’s dental guru’s teaching funnels. There’s gym owner guru’s. It’s amazing, I love it. The more of that happening, the better for me and I love it. But it didn’t really address the whole attractive character thing, because it wasn’t being published from headquarters, from corporate or whatever you want to call it. It’s been interesting, I think the first evolution of a business, is that you usually, or whoever that person is in your business, is the attractive character first. And that awesome, but eventually what needs to happen for you start going to the next level, is the attractive character can’t just stay with you. If it just stays with you it can’t get scalable. So if you’ve watched over the last two or three years, you’ve probably noticed me consciously doing this, I share less and less of Russell Brunson stories, and I share more and more of the stories of our members. So our success stories, our students, they become the attractive characters, that’s the second level. So instead of me talking about Russell, I talk about Kaelin Poulin, Brandon and Kaelin. I talk about Trey Lewellen, I talk about all the different people. I’m talking about them and they become the attractive characters. My success stories become the attractive characters, they are the practical application of what I’m teaching and talking and telling about. So that’s the next level. And then there’s a third level, that for those who have been paying attention, you’ve probably noticed me do over the last 7 or 8 months, where the attractive character is not me, and it’s not my clients, it’s the clients of my clients. So if you notice my language patterns now, when I talk about people inside the Clickfunnels community, I’m not talking about, “Brandon and Kaelin made a million bucks.” I’m talking about “Brandon and Kaelin have changed the lives of 1.3 million women. These women who struggled with weight loss their entire lives. They now are able to lose weight.” Pamela Wible who has been able to help doctors who commit suicide, and how she saves their lives, and now the doctor’s life has been saved because of whatever. I could go on and on with all these success stories. But what’s interesting, notice my language patterns, I’m not just talking about the person. Not talking about Brandon and Kaelin making millions of dollars, because that’s good, it’s better than Russell making a million dollars, but then the second level is they’re the attractive character, they’re making millions of dollars, but the third level is talking about the success stories of their clients. That’s 3 levels deep. So you’ll notice me, as I talk now and I teach and share and present, I’m always talking about 3 levels deep. Not my stories, not my success stories-stories, but their client’s success stories. And that’s like the third layer. So that’s kind of what you’re looking at. How do you get to those different layers? And it’s not something that happens immediately. If you start day one talking about the success stories of your success stories, that doesn’t really work. And some businesses aren’t ever going to lean towards that, where it’s actually possible. I think they are though. Let’s say for Kaelin’s business. She’s lost weight, she’s helped other people lose weight, but then the real impact is not that her people lost weight, now they’re better wives and better mothers, now they can serve more in the community, look at all the impact that they’re having. So it’s like, the impact of your clients is the next level. Anyway, there’s three levels deep of the attractive character. So for me, we gotta transition from Russell being the attractive character, to our students, our users, our customers being the attractive characters to the customers of our customers, are ultimately the attractive character. They are the fruits of this whole thing. Alright, so that’s the first thing I want to talk about. Now I want to step back one level. For me now, again, for the last 3 ½ almost 4 years it’s been Russell onstage talking about Clickfunnels, Clickfunnels, Clickfunnels, and this week, today in 3 ½ hours is the first time where we’ve done this. Kaelin Poulin is doing the Funnel Hacks webinar. It’s her telling her stories, her experience, her everything, but she’s selling my product at the end. So my success story is now becoming the attractive character, which is so exciting and so cool. And basically, I’m excited to see what she does. I gave her my slides and said, “Look, the offer has to stay the same, because it’s still the Funnel Hacks offer, that’s what we’re offering people, but you have the right to tell your own story, sell it how you would sell it.” So she’s been working for the last month and a half doing this and it’s going to be really fun to see her do it today. And if it works well, then I’m going to probably go to other one’s of my students and have them create presentations on their success stories, and then selling my offer. And hopefully, if we do one of these a month, over the next twelve months, we could have 12 of these, or 24 over the next 2 years, or who knows how many. But now it’s like, Russell and my presentation and my story becomes one of many different ways to sell. I’m one of many attractive characters inside of Clickfunnels. And that now, makes my business very sellable. Because if Russell disappears it doesn’t matter. We have 12 other people. We have Kaelin’s presentation that’s selling people, we have so and so’s presentation. We have other people, and that’s really the excitement and the magic for me. So I’m excited. This is the practical application of 3 ½ - 4 years of trying to brainstorm and think through how this is even possible. And I never knew until, it’s funny because I’ve told Kaelin 4 or 5 times, “Man, I wish you could be the attractive character for Clickfunnels. I wish you could be the pitch person.” And she always laughs. Then 2 months ago I was like, “Wait, what if you really were? What if we did something like this?” and we kind of put together a plan and idea, and Brandon and Kaelin were like, “Yes, we’re willing to do that.” I’m like, “That’s awesome.” So it’s going to be good for everybody. They get royalty on all the sales that happen through this webinar funnel, and through all future sales that come through it, so it’s a huge win for them. It’s a huge win for us, it gets a different angle, different attractive character, different person out there. And they can still focus on their business long term. They spent the time to develop this presentation and they’ll get paid on it for the rest of their lives. So it’s kind of a super cool win-win. Anyway, for you guys, start thinking about that. Start thinking about, obviously the first phase where you’re at, you need to double down on the attractive character, it’s important. Even if you’re like, you read some stupid business book where someone’s like, “If your face is the brand, you can never sell your company.” Just realize that person is not creative or unique, and they have no vision on how to actually change the world. So don’t listen to them, focus on the attractive character is important. It’s going help people have connection with you and with your brand, otherwise they’re going to be going based on features and they’re going to leave you when someone comes out with a better mousetrap. So that’s number one. Number two then, focus on helping people have as much success as humanly possible, so you can transition to them becoming the attractive characters. And then someday, training those people on how they can actually give a presentation. One thing that was not strategic but looking back now makes me seem like I’m a genius, is we’ve taught how many hundred thousand people how to do my presentation, how to do a perfect webinar, so it’s like, there are people we’ve developed that can do that. So find your success stories and then help them, train them to be able to give a presentation to sell your products and services through their lens, through their view. And then third, start focusing on the success stories of your success stories. That’s the third tier of this. And that’s when you’re focusing on the impact of your success stories. And that’s really the level, I think where you have to get the attractive character to really have the impact you want. And obviously, like we said, someday if you did want to sell or step away from the business or whatever, it takes some pressure off your shoulders. So anyway, I’m excited, I’m pumped. This is the first application of this concept and we’re going to see how it goes today with Kaelin. She’s going to crush it, she’s amazing. She’s one of the best presenters, one of the best sales people I’ve ever seen, and she’s got such a good heart. You guys have heard her story. She’s changed 1.3 million womens lives. Who does that? It’s insanely cool. Her husband Brandon is just amazing as well. I’ve never seen somebody execute as consistently and as quickly and as perfectly as him. And it’s fun watching those two as a couple having so much success, and they deserve every minute. If anyone is ever like, “Oh they got lucky.” No, they’re insanely hard workers, insanely talented, they follow directions, they model, they’re able to put their own angles on things, their own spins, they improve everything they touch, and they are just amazing human beings. So I’m proud of them. This is like this really cool, unique culmination of the last 3 ½ - 4 years of their story and having them come back now and pitch and present the product that was the one that made them have all the success. Insofern wird es jetzt überfällig, denn ich habe in mehreren Projekten gemerkt, wie wichtig dieses Thema ist. Wenn man in der digitalen Welt startet, dann ist es schon sehr mutig, sein Gesicht zu zeiten; es ist mutig Videos zu drehen; es ist mutig Podcasts zu machen; es ist mutig Bilder zu posten; es ist mutig Blogartikel zu schreiben. Blogartikel sind vielleicht weniger mutig, aber für manche vielleicht auch mutig. Was einem trotzdem passieren kann ist, dass man mit all diesen Sachen draußen ist, aber irgendwie nichts passiert. Klar, manche Leute schauen sich das an, aber das Feedback ist nicht so gut und irgendwie passiert da nicht so richtig viel. Das kann daran liegen, dass man keinen Attractive Character hat und das ist ein Konzept, wo es darum geht, dass man einen attraktiven Charakter darstellt. Das bedeutet nicht, dass man gut aussehend ist - ansonsten hätte ich da auch keine Chance - sondern, es geht vielmehr um gewisse Eigenschaften, die man hat. Das ist sehr spannend und das gebe ich auch den Leuten, mit denen ich zusammenarbeite, als erste Übung mit, um Anklang in der digitalen Welt und auch bei den Menschen zu bekommen.
