Welcome to the Tearsheet Podcast, where we explore financial services together with an eye on technology, innovation, emerging models, and changing expectations. I'm Tearsheet's editor in chief, Zack Miller In today's episode, we explore what it takes to build world-class data governance in financial services. Our guests are Jay Como, the global head of data governance at T. Rowe Price, and Glenn Kurban, partner at Capco. We talk about how generative AI and new data strategies are transforming finance, sharing insights on the transformation of the Chief Data Officer role. The discussion also focuses on the challenges of large-scale data migrations. Jay Como reflects on the convergence of data and digital roles. He states, "What we've seen is there used to be kind of two shapes of CDOs. There was a chief data officer and there was a chief digital officer. And what I think in the last five years is what we've seen is those roles have really come together." Glenn Kurban adds depth to this perspective, emphasizing the shift towards more proactive data strategies. Glenn says, "You're seeing much more being asked of CDOs in terms of, how are we moving now to an offensive posture around data? That is, how am I going to monetize this data? How can I use it to drive better decisions, reduce costs, and actually outpace our competitors?" As our discussion unfolds, it becomes clear that the financial services industry is at a pivotal moment. AI tools and cloud technologies are reshaping traditional approaches to data governance and migration. The insights shared by Como and Kurban offer a glimpse into the future of data management in finance. AI-driven solutions and strategic data governance converge to create new opportunities and challenges. Here's my conversation with Jay and Glenn.

Viv Anderson MBE is our special guest for Episode 200 filmed in front of a live audience at Capco in central London in support of the amazing charity Leadership Through Sport & Business, which Viv is a patron. Viv has played for a number of teams including Manchester United, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. He was the very first player signed by Sir Alex Ferguson and played for Brian Clough winning the Football League, European Cup, League Cup, FA Cup and made British sporting history by becoming the first black player to play a full international for England. This is an amazing insight into Viv, his family, the Windrush generation and how he went on to become a trailblazer for diversity in the beautiful game. His big break came via a scout from Sheffield United which in turn led to a scout from Manchester United asking him to trial as a young schoolboy. Manchester United rejected Viv which he explains was devastating however that prompted him to try for his home team, Nottingham Forest which in turn led to his debut at 17 yers old. The Nottingham Forest years meant that Viv played for the iconic Brian Clough. Viv shares some incredible stories about life under Clough as a young black player in the 70's and 80's and how Clough helped him to build the personal resilience to cope and still play whilst dealing with overt racism. We discuss the state of diversity in football and football leadership in the modern game and concede that there is still much to do. When Viv found out that he had been selected for England, Brian Clough was again a supporting influence in his life whilst also keeping him grounded and humble. Viv also remembers being signed and playing for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. Alex Ferguson was a passionate but hard task master. Alex Ferguson's early years were not easy but he knew how to man manage each and every player which led to him becoming the serial winner that we know today. Both Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson had clear non-negotiables with their superstar players. Viv outlines how senior players had a positive impact on his career including Brian Robson We also have a few surprises for Viv, with messages from Stuart Pearce and Marlon Harewood. On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Steve Abel from EPAM, a dedicated, results-oriented executive with a proven hands-on track record and superior ability to build highly effective teams to deliver success within all levels of an organization. EPAM is one of the best-kept secrets, voted one of the leading and fastest-growing information technology companies in the world. EPAM today leads the charge in the field of global digital and physical transformation and digital platform engineering services. The company has over 61,000 employees across 6 continents and 50 countries. In this episode, Sabine and Steve cover three main topics: Changes in the way innovation is delivered today, repairing broken processes with the right engineering mindset, and the requirements for building the business of tomorrow. KEY TAKEAWAYS The way technology solves problems today is from point solutions to point solutions. This is a flawed way to solve the technology problem and build highly effective business models. Imagine if there were tools that had 95% of what a business needs to operate. You would only buy things that are available as part of the packages. As an insurer, you would be able to gain benefits as you would need fewer specialists to determine whether to buy, build, or partner. Pull widgets that could be your integration engine. Could be cheaper than what is available, and you could rebuild in a bespoke way that is unique. I was in a stable job at KPMG. When the pandemic hit, I worked on a project with no real choice but to deliver tech assets quickly. Then I decided to do some investigating and discovered EPAM. They loved my idea and then thought about new technology in new ways to solve the client's problem with purpose in a different way. EPAM is multi-sectors, and I sit within the insurance business unit. How do startups grow? One option is to use cloud-based assets that ease the creation of reusable assets. This is a profound change in how people think about technology and business; cloud-based tooling, data mash-up, etc. We can unlock the power of these tools and bring them together as a unified landscape. Insurance carriers are struggling with geospatial data (for instance) because of their legacy systems and the way each carrier goes about integrating data into systems. Each carrier wants to know if they are getting unique information from you, but they don't need the dashboard or data very often. They want to process an algorithm that gives them an answer. BEST MOMENTS ‘A lot of commercialized software is not fit for purpose. Still, businesses operate thousands of spreadsheets. This is not right for the employees and gives poor customer service.'‘I love to wake up and ensure that customers do every day what they do best with others.'‘If you have not thought on how to do so. Hire an expert to think through the problem in a new way for you. You will get to the optimum outcome faster and likely cheaper too.'‘Get the right tools and get the approach right. I can ensure you, you will be impressed them.' I interviewed Jonathan de Potter. Jonathan is the Founder & CEO of Behold Retreats. This bespoke wellness service facilitates journeys of self-discovery and transformation, supported by the scientifically proven benefits of plant medicine therapy. Jonathan is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of plant medicine therapy and its potential to improve well-being and mental health outcomes. As a result, Jonathan felt compelled to launch Behold Retreats in 2020, providing curated programs incorporating a memorable plant medicine retreat in a safe, legal, and highly supported setting. Jonathan has spent his career working in strategy consulting with clients across Asia-Pacific, defining and delivering digital transformation programs. After several years in New Zealand, Jonathan moved to Hong Kong to work with Accenture and most recently lived in Bangkok as country manager for the boutique consulting firm Capco. Jonathan felt that something intangible was missing despite an objectively great life, good friends, and career success. As a result, Jonathan took a sabbatical year to travel through South America, where he attended his first Ayahuasca plant medicine retreat in Peru. The retreat experience was transformational, and in his expanded state of consciousness, Jonathan was directly shown the mindsets and behaviors that kept him from reaching his potential. Returning to the corporate world, Jonathan was surprised to find he was more patient, empathetic, and productive than ever before and began researching the world of plant medicine and facilitating retreats. Originally from Hawaii, USA, Jonathan is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand, often traveling to continue his research into the best plant medicine retreat centers worldwide. He enjoys yoga, meditation, and surfing and is energized by big, bold ideas. I encourage every listener to follow him and gain insights from his teachings and retreats. Tata Consultancy Services reported the highest incremental revenue in the company's history, for the fiscal year 2022. Revenues for the year ended March 31, 2022, rose $3.53 billion to $25.7 billion, a 15.4 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, in constant currency, TCS said in a statement yesterday after markets. Meanwhile, Wipro is doubling down on its acquisition strategy under CEO Thierry Delaporte. Notes: Tata Consultancy Services reported the highest incremental revenue in the company's history, announcing its latest earnings results, after markets yesterday. Revenues for the year ended March 31, 2022, rose $3.53 billion to $25.7 billion, a 15.4 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, in constant currency. Revenue for the three months ended March 31 rose 14.3 percent in constant currency terms to $6.7 billion, TCS said in a press release. That is a 2.6 percent from $6.5 billion for the December quarter, matching Street expectations. TCS shares were little changed in early Mumbai trading this morning. TCS and other large IT services providers are benefitting from clients prioritising their tech budgets, after the Covid-19 pandemic, CEO Rajesh Gopinathan told reporters in Mumbai, in the company's first in-person earnings press conference in two years. Sales were led by demand in America, the company's biggest market, and a return to business among retailers, one of the most affected segments during the worst of the pandemic. TCS, India's largest software services provider, ended the fiscal year with an order book of almost $35 billion, including the biggest total contract value accumulated in any one quarter, at $11.3 billion in Q4. The company won two very large orders in Q4 that were worth almost a billion dollars each, over the life of the contract, Gopinathan said. At the end of Q4 FY22, amid an intensifying war for talent, TCS saw staff churn increase by about 200 basis points from the previous quarter to 17.4 percent on a leading twelve months basis, and it will get worse in the short term Gopinathan warned. The company ended FY22 with 592,195 employees, with a net addition of 103,546 staff, as against a target of 40,000 recruits at the beginning of the fiscal year. Infosys, India's second-biggest software services provider, is expected to report its Q4 FY22 earnings tomorrow after markets. Meanwhile, Wipro is doubling down on its acquisition strategy, as CEO Thierry Delaporte is attempting to drag the Bengaluru company back to growth that can be compared favourably with larger rivals Infosys and TCS. Wipro yesterday announced that it has acquired Convergence Acceleration Solutions (CAS Group), a US-based consulting and programme management company that specialises in large-scale business and technology transformation for the world's biggest communications service providers. Wipro CEO Delaporte has been acquiring companies to consolidate and deepen Wipro's ability to deliver large scale transformation projects for clients in multiple verticals. A year ago, Wipro acquired Capco, a fintech consultancy for $1.45 billion in its largest acquisition. Wipro didn't provide financial details of the CAS Group purchase, which is smaller, and which brings about 138 consultants into the company's fold. In one form or another, most people have debts. It is, in many ways, an everyday part of life. Yet debt carries a considerable amount of stigma with it, which can have a negative impact on people's willingness to seek out ways to manage it. And it's not that people don't want to pay, in fact, in most cases the opposite is true, but outdated procedures, unfit technological solutions, and seemingly unempathetic customer service representatives create significant barriers - barriers that must be removed in order to modernize and humanize enterprise collections. On today's show, we'll be speaking with Dale Williams, CEO of Telrock Systems; Guy Hammon, general manager of enterprise lending at FIS; and Michael Peretz, housing finance practice lead at Capco. Join us as we explore the modern solutions that are reshaping enterprise collections and improving debt recovery for institutions and customers. We'll discover why poor communication can drastically damage an institution's ability to recover funds, where current enterprise collection solutions currently fall short, and how improved tech solutions can better human interactions and, therefore, debt recovery. We'll also ask: How has COVID impacted the technologies associated with enterprise collections? What, other than technology, is the key to providing a better experience for those in debt? How is the landscape in B2B enterprise collections changing? Why does empathy need to be at the core of debt recovery? What do organizations need to consider when bringing enterprise collections in-house?

You did it. You finally graduated school and are ready to go out into the world and put your expertise to good use. Nevertheless, there is one thing standing in between you and the job of your dreams: the interview. On its face, an interview might seem to be simply a measure of how much you know about a given subject, but in practice, an interview is really more of a measure of how willing you are to learn and how you manage yourself. Allowing yourself to be measured at any capacity requires confidence and courage, but if just thinking about the interview process fills you with anxiety, you're not alone. However, approaching an interview with nervousness is oftentimes what sabotages candidates the most. Luckily, courage is like a muscle, and if it's strengthened properly using the right techniques, you'll end up being not only a stronger interview candidate, but a stronger candidate for whatever you pursue. In today's podcast, we sit down with the confident new product manager, Neha Satya, and discuss topics such as preparing for an introduction, showing up with confidence and nailing round 1, 2 & 3 interviews. Our Speaker: Neha Satya Neha is a product manager at Capco and a project manager mentor at Product Gym. Although she is relatively new to the working world, Neha is no stranger to hard work. Her drive, determination, confidence and communication skills have made her an incredibly sought after candidate in the agile and product space. We are proud to introduce Neha Satya.
