We get asked for advice by new colorists and those looking to do more color (editors,DPs, etc) all the time.It's easy to get into the technical weeds very quickly. TITLE: Colorists Reveal How to Expertly Color Your Hair at Home STORY: It's always nice to treat yourself at the salon, but trips to see your stylist every few weeks can become expensive and time-consuming. That's why we spoke to several colorists to get the lowdown on how to correctly color your hair at home. We've compiled their tips and tricks into an easy-to-follow format based on your experience level and the type of coloring you desire.

It's Artists Month once again! Today we are stepping back and looking at the four traditional jobs artists have and how a comic artist can use them to do better comic art. This means looking at the penciller (he who does the roughs), the inker (he who takes it the finals), the colorist (master of tones of gray and color), and the letterer (ninja of the comic world), and how they communicate. We welcomed back Alex Parnell, president of Splitting Lanes Entertainment, for episode two of our three-part series of CineCast: A Cinedeck Podcast. On episode one, we got to know Parnell as a creative in the industry of media, film, and television, how he got into the field and what gets him excited for work each morning. On this episode, we explored what a day on the job looks like for Parnell, and listened to personal stories of tricky clients and challenging workflows. “People are definitely more educated on color science," Parnell said, explaining how a more informed client can make his job easier. But it is a double-edged sword. With colorist software like DaVinci Resolve being free and relatively user-friendly, higher-ups think they can do the job of colorist. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth. With different clips and quality, particularly in reality television, a keen eye is needed to blend media. Colorists and editors work with a variety of programs like Premiere, Resolve, Avid, Cinedeck and more. As files get passed between programs, dozens of different files are created, often forcing colorists to manually transcode, creating hours of extra work. But Alex revealed a trade secret. “The file-based delivery...is very efficient if you used something like a Cinedeck or cineX insert," he said.

Greg Gilmore is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He has spent more than 15 years mastering the art of hair. He was featured as a platform artist at the 2011 Spectrum Beauty Expo in Los Angeles. He was also featured as a platform artist at the 2016 Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show and has had work featured on all major news networks such as NBC, FOX, and CBS. Currently, Greg is an Associate Artist/Educator representing one of the world's leading texture brands; Design Essentials. Greg provides product knowledge and speaking engagements all throughout the United States. Greg was also named Design Essentials Artistic Educator of the Year in 2018. He has done work on award shows such as the ESPY Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Bet Awards Red Carpet as well as VH1’s Basketball Wives Reunion Show. Greg's work has been published in magazine's such as Rolling Out, Runway, Upscale magazine and many other publications and television shows that showcase the hair artistry of Greg Gilmore. All three sat down with No Film School at this past Sundance Film Festival where they premiered their color work on some of the edgiest, loveliest, or grittiest films we've seen this year! A friend of the show recently pointed out to Jim that he made a comment in Episode 10 (Iron Fist in Comics) around the 26-minute mark that was really flat-out wrong despite the intent behind it.
