A MONK, A SHAMAN, AND A SCIENTIST WALK INTO A BAR AT THE EDGE OF THE APOCALYPSE...Layman sits down with meditation and planetary dharma teacher, John Churchill, to enjoy a Double Venti Alchemist's Elixir and a rich, wide-ranging conversation exploring the shape of emergent integrative spiritualities at the edge of the Apocalypse.Born in London, Dr. Churchill's interest in psycho-spiritual development, Integral theory, Contemplative studies, Western Esotericism, and Mahayana Buddhism began in his adolescence, eventually leading him to spend several years as a Buddhist monk at Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland. During this time, John received the esoteric Planetary Dharma transmissions that would in time unfold as his contribution to a planetary fourth turning teaching. Dr. Churchill spent 15 years training and teaching “Great Seal” meditation in an Indo-Tibetan Mahayana lineage under the mentorship of the late senior Western teacher, translator, respected author, and clinical psychologist Dr. Daniel P. Brown. He is also a founding member of the Integral Institute led by esteemed Transpersonal/Integral philosopher, Ken Wilber.Planetary Dharma websitehttps://www.planetarydharma.com/
In a culture driven by achievement, autonomy, and digital distraction, our sense of identity is often shaped by performance and external validation. Yet beneath this surface, many carry unseen psychological imprints from childhood and culture alike. What happens when we begin to examine these layers and imagine healthier ones? In this week's Frankly, Nate explores the themes of attention, awareness, and the psychological impacts of modern life. Through poetry and reflection, he examines the pull toward validation and control that shapes many of our behaviors. Building on the Ideal Parent Figure Protocol developed by Dr. Daniel P. Brown, he expands the concept to explore what ideal cultural and ecological figures might offer in addressing our deeper collective needs. What are the qualities of a healthy culture -- one rooted in belonging, continuity, and shared purpose? How can we reconnect with ecological kinship and wisdom? And finally, where is your branch of stillness, the one place the pendulum of this world doesn't reach? In this New Year, we offer an episode on healthy, ethical influence. What is Integrative Psychology? What is “organization of mind?” If a person is interested in embodied mind practices, which include concentration meditation training, it takes very specialized training and practice to navigate this terrain effectively. Nigel Denning is a Counselling Psychologist and managing director of Integrative Psychology in Melbourne, Australia. We know each other because we both have received training from the famous forensic psychologist and Tibetan Buddhist teacher Daniel P. Brown. Sadly, Dr. Brown passed away last year, but his work lives on. Hopefully, we hope to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to optimize their minds, create a nurturing environment for growth and healing, and develop awareness of and resilience against the numerous forms of undue influence that permeate our culture. Bill Belanger studied and lived in Buddhist monasteries and developed an understanding of Buddhist contemplative practices in their traditional context. He's been most influenced by the Gelugpa, Kagyu, and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as Zen Buddhism and Bon. More recently he practiced under the psychologist, translator, and meditation teacher Dr. Daniel P. Brown for ten years before his passing in addition to numerous Tibetan lamas and Zen Masters. After he received a master's degree in counseling psychology and was trained as a psychotherapist, Bill found it meaningful to integrate both western and eastern approaches to mental wellbeing. As the founder and CEO of Healbright, an online mental wellness program, Bill works with clinical psychologists to make on-demand mental wellbeing programs for corporate wellness platforms. Bill's meditation retreats, corporate trainings, and coaching programs integrate psychology and Buddhist meditation. https://healbright.com/
Boken The body keeps the score har legat på Amazons toppsäljarlista i många månader. Det är ett av många tecken på att medvetenheten om trauma och dess effekter börjar nå både populärkulturen och människor i allmänhet. Komplex PTSD (posttraumatiskt stressyndrom) håller på att bli en vedertagen diagnos. Terapiformerna Traumafokuserad (TF) kognitiv beteendeterapi, Prolonged exposure och EMDR (eye-movement desentizisation and reprocessing) används flitigt. In this episode, I talk with Daniel Ahearn and am really excited about this interview as Attachment Theory underpins all psychological work, while the mindfulness-based interventions so commonly offered have their home in Buddhist wisdom. Daniel is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), with a counselling degree in addiction (CADAC). He has over 18 years of meditation studies and is currently pursuing a doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica and post-graduate study of IPF (Ideal Parent Figure) under the supervision of Dr Daniel P. Brown. Daniel Ahearn offers a rich introduction to the relationship of Buddhist practices and attachment theory for the purpose of healing attachment strategies that may no longer be working. His compassion and calm are evident in this interview, offering a window into what might be experienced as one explores this path. Shownotes: www.drkaitlin.com

I wrote Fast This Way to explain both the spiritual as well as physical side of fasting but what people get wrong is that they will try to use the spiritual practice of fasting in the middle of a work day. There's such a thing as a working fast which you do for more energy, high performance, and anti-aging and then there's something called a spiritual fast which is something that you do for spiritual development and they're just fundamentally different. Until you do a longer fast with rest, relaxation, meditation, and introspection, you're not going to see it. So, I see a lot of people trying fasting and then it doesn't work and they say they couldn't do it right because it sucks. Well, when you do intermittent fasting right it doesn't have to suck. - Dave Asprey Get 15% off your CURED Nutrition order with the code WELLNESSFORCE ---> Get The Morning 21 System: A simple and powerful 21 minute system designed to give you more energy to let go of old weight and live life well. "I know intermittent fasting works but I also see this trap that I've been in several times. There's a fasting trap, a vegan trap, a keto trap, and an exercise trap and they're all from the same basic human behavior which is, 'You know what, if something is good, more is better.' If you go into keto and you stay in keto all the time, you will hate your life eventually. You'll feel great for a while and then when it stops working, you'll think it's because you're not keto enough and you'll go from 15 grams of carbs to 12 and wonder why it's still not working and then you'll be stuck there and fasting is the same way. If you fast heavy every single day, it might not be the best idea. Fasting in moderation and learning how to have less stress and more energy during a fast is sufficient." - Dave Asprey Building A Stronger Mindset "In Fast This Way, I found this study that 15% of the average person's thoughts are about food every single day. So, if you turn off your hunger - Wow! You just got 15% more of your thoughts back. If that's just our thoughts on food, then it's a lot more for our fearful thoughts. Is it half your thoughts? Are two-thirds of your thoughts about the fear-running thoughts, inner critic, and angry voices in your head? If most of your thoughts are hunger and fear, there's just a little bit left for personal development and self-improvement." - Dave Asprey Cravings vs Hunger "From a somatic perspective, understand that there are two different states people have mixed up around hunger. One of them is cravings and the other is actual hunger. Most people only have cravings and they never get to feel hunger. A craving is, 'If I don't eat soon, I'm going to die;' you have to have it and it's an intense feeling. Cravings can be caused biologically when you eat certain foods; in fact many or most cravings are caused by eating the wrong stuff. Then you have hunger which is that mild feeling of, 'Yeah, it's probably about time to eat but it'll be okay if I do or don't." - Dave Asprey Links From Today's Show Belcampo 250 Dave Asprey Fast This Way by Dave Asprey Game Changers by Dave Asprey Bulletproof Radio with Dave Asprey Bulletproof Upgrade Labs Head Strong by Dave Asprey The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey Molecules Of Emotion: Why You Feel The Way You Feel by Candace Pert How Your Attachment Type Defines Your Sense of Self – Daniel P. Enlightenment is a holistic development, where all lines of development have flourished. An explanation of the four clouds of the Heart Sutra. Establishing neurophysiological correlates of enlightenment. What does it mean to see the world as sacred? Development of multiple bodies serving different functions simultaneously (as a result of enlightenment). Has the Dalai Lama done this? A baseball player who trained by having tennis balls fired in a batting cage at 200mph. A discussion of the relative speeds of thinking, attention, and awareness. Is there a personal self or entity which reincarnates? An enlightened person can choose an incarnation rather than being mandated to a particular life by existing “memory traces”. Detailed discussion on the rainbow body and relics found in the cremation ashes of enlightened beings who have mastered rainbow bodies. The potential pitfalls of silent retreats. Not mistaking preliminary stages for more advanced stages. The only true test of realization is conduct, how you live your life, and how you treat other people. Witnessing The difference between ordinary and awakened awareness. Integrating awakened awareness into all other activity. Stages in the development of concentration. The process of releasing memory traces. What practices are good for a beginner? Eligibility requirements for different stages of instruction. Discussion of the Padmasambhava quote, “Although my awareness is as vast as the sky, my attention to karma is as fine as a grain of barley flour.” The importance of continuing vigilance after enlightenment. Do enlightened people all experience a universal, ultimate reality in the same way, or do different spiritual paths and personal tendencies result in enlightenment being different for different people? Can you do anything to get to non-doing? Conspiracies and cult mentality. The importance of cultivating discernment on the spiritual path. The importance of enlightened leaders. Can they be effective without an enlightened populace? Discussion of this interview in the BatGap Community Facebook Group. Interview recorded January 10, 2021 Video and audio below. In this episode of Dignities & Disasters, Robert MacNaughton and Michael Porcelli discuss one of the topics on the tips of the tongues of the United States these days. When it comes to Socialism, the definition itself seems to be loosely adopted by the political agenda it is pushing. We drive to the heart of socialism in many of its forms and unpack the good, the bad, and the confusing. We call this version 0.1 of addressing this topic since we're not political or economic authorities, and we're just scratching the surface of this far-sweeping and divisive area of discussion. Some of the topics we explore: The Basics: - Social ownership of the means of production - Marx defined and popularized “Capitalism” in Das Kapital - Authoritarian socialism (Eastern bloc) vs democratic socialism (Western bloc) - The Nordic model is not socialism, but a social democracy or “cuddly capitalism”; free market capitalist with a more generous welfare state and a high personal tax burden shared by medium and low income households The Dignities: - Humans are inherently equal, and everyone should have an equal opportunity to thrive - We spread the benefits of social membership to those whose own efforts do not suffice to obtain basic welfare - We enjoy the fruits of society only if we are also ready to share them - Nobody suffers from their basic needs not being met due to no fault of their own - Why you should be a socialist: wealth disparity; crony capitalism; obvious distribution problems ; basic social welfare The Disasters: - Creation of a class of dependents - Antagonizes those that live responsibly and separates dependents from a full experience of citizenship - Open ended budgets with ever increasing costs and borrowing from the future - The issue is politicized -- e.g. Marx's war language; an essential antagonism between proletariat and bourgeoisie; class war, only when fomented by political leaders: e.g. Lenin in Russia, Mao in China - Measuring Poverty -- Poverty is defined relatively -- “Relative Deprivation” e.g. the British Labor govt defined poverty as “people with 60% of median income”. Whereas the World Bank defines poverty in absolute terms -- defining extreme poverty as living on less than US$1.90 per day - The “zero sum vision” -- a fallacy that sees life where every success requires someone's failure, i.e. winning requires losing - The over involvement of the state paid by taxes on working classes - Cannot admit that the poor benefit from the wealth of the wealthy - Lenin: October Revolution, Stalin: the kulaks, and Hitler: the Jews - The failed socialist nations, Communism, The totalitarian temptation to remake society - An attempt to realize a heaven that inevitably leads to hell Resources mentioned: - Roger Scruton - How to be a Conservative - Why You Should be a Socialist - Nathan Robinson - Proven Practices for this Pandemic Crisis with Daniel P Brown (re: learned helplessness vs virtuous cycle of self-improvement) from the State of Emergence podcast with Terry Patten - Countries that have tried socialism and failed - Forbes

For the full interview: ⭐ nightclub.andrewholecek.com/interviews/dustin-diperna Join author Dustin DiPerna for a penetrating look at the power of Integral Theory and the path of Waking Up and Growing Up. Dustin unpacks the difference between states and structures of consciousness, as well the importance of understanding vantage points. So many spiritual practitioners limit themselves if they're not aware of these principles. The conversation then shifts to a look at the “conveyor belt,” and some of the main factors that catalyze transformation. How does traveling, virtual reality, lucid dreaming, and psychedelics fit in? Learn how meditation lubricates movement through structures of consciousness, and the importance of relationship on the path. Dustin then discusses the idea of “ladder-climber-view” and how this model works with skillful means and our ability to relate to others. Where does contraction fit into growth, and how important is openness? The discussion then turns to examine “trans-lineage” and “trans-spirituality” before shifting to a look at the role of fear on the path. To complete the picture, the importance of Cleaning Up and Showing Up is discussed. Dustin reveals why he's one of the leading voices in human development, and a razor-sharp integral thinker. Join this remarkable individual for a tour into the center of yourself, and everything that is required to travel the path of growth safely and completely. Meditators of the World Unite! You Have Nothing to Left Lose But the Illusion of Your Separateness! Today's episode explores the thousands of years old practice of meditation. Why do it? What will it allow you to experience? And how does meditation relate both to political activism and psychotherapy? How would more meditation and more meditators assist in bringing us all - all 8 billion of us - closer to the oneness world that would surely emerge on a planet of world citizens? We're pretty confident that the closer we get to a unified world, the more meditators there will be out there. In Episode 32 of Jointly Venturing - Let's Talk World Citizenship we speak with meditation practitioner and teacher Eyal Lang from Melbourne, Australia deep in the second major COVID-19 lockdown since March 2020. Eyal has been a committed meditator since 2014 and now teaches meditation to beginners who are interested in pursuing this ancient practice designed to calm the mind, bring peace to the soul and ever-deeper understanding of the delusions of separateness that are still so common in normal life for most people. Eyal is both a great human being but an excellent teacher as well, and if you'd like to be directly in touch with him to discuss meditation and how to get started, please go to www.eyallang.com and have a look around. Thanks so much Eyal - hope we can do it again soon! Happy listening everyone! *** Eyal Lang has been on a six-year journey where he has been deeply exploring the practices of Western Mindfulness and Eastern Meditation to understand the nature of the mind. He’s immersed himself in several extended trainings, retreats, and workshops. This includes over three years of study and practice with his current teacher, Senior Meditation Master and Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School, Daniel P. Brown PhD. He is currently studying and practicing the ancient wisdom teachings of Mahamudra and Dzogchen from the Kagyu, Nyingma and Bon Tibetan traditions. His passion for meditation has led him to study teaching and become a fully certified member of the Meditation Association of Australia. His professional training includes 100 hours of Professional Instruction with Dr. Dan Brown and a Certificate in Meditation Teacher Training from the Melbourne Meditation Centre. He has also nourished his curiosity for understanding the nature of the mind by studying behavioural sciences and psychology at Monash University. His intention as a meditation teacher is to guide people on their journey to understand and organise their mind to create a more positive way of being.
In this episode we approach purpose from many different angles. We talk about absolute and relative purpose, our unique purpose and the purpose that we all share. We discuss the larger purposes beyond our individual purpose, such as the purpose of our community and the purpose of our planet. On the more practical side, we have a look at the possibility of not only connecting to soul but to actually being soul, and how to deal with the fears that may come up in relation to doing that. Dustin DiPerna is a visionary leader, entrepreneur, and recognized expert in world religions. He has studied closely with Ken Wilber for more than a decade and he has practiced and studied Tibetan Buddhism in the lineages of Mahamudra and Dzogchen with Daniel P. Brown. In this episode of Bulletproof Radio, my guest’s expertise ranges from trauma, attachment theory and hypnosis to ancient traditions of meditation. In fact, he’s a Buddhist Meditation Master. This is the first of a two-part series you don’t want to miss.Dan Brown, Ph.D., is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology at Harvard University Medical School. He also teaches hypnotherapy. He’s been on the faculty for nearly 40 years. We explore how early childhood attachment can define your relationships positively or negatively. As the world-leading expert on attachment theory, Dr. Brown shares share his research findings and give you options.“There are two relational maps,” says Dr. Brown. “The first one forms about 12 to 20 months. That's the attachment map. The second one forms about the third and fourth year of life. That's called CCRT or Core Conflict Relationship Theme map. The difference between those two maps is the second map is much more complicated, and it's much more accessible to memory. The difference, put simply, is that there's a difference between whether you have trouble with relationships or within relationships.”Dr. Brown also expanded his work to study the Buddhist approach.“In the West we study psychopathology and psychiatric conditions,” he says. “In Buddhism, they studied positive states, so that's the other half of the map. Once you've worked through the negative stuff, all that leaves you with is a basic everyday unhappiness. If you work on developing the mind in the positive sense, you will be onto happiness and contentment in life, into awakening.”I asked Dr. Brown how people could fix the broken stuff if they had early childhood trauma and were struggling in their adult relationships. He offers hope, treatments and says no one is left behind if they need help. The other really cool thing we get into is hypnosis, which is actually just a “talent for heightened attentiveness.” Dr. Brown worked for over 100 hours with Sirhan Sirhan, the man accused of assassinating Robert F. Kennedy. You didn’t see that coming, did you? Listen on to learn what he found out! Enjoy the show! System Speak: Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Multiple Personality Disorder )
We speak again with Dr. Peter Barach, who teaches us all about attachment. He tells the story of being in class with Mary Ainsworth, and explains Bowlby’s theory (links in the blog). He explains the different attachment styles, and what that looks like in adults. He shares that disorganized attachment is quite common in DID. He gives the example of the Robertson research film “A Two Year Old Goes to the Hospital”. He then applies all of this to the context of trauma and multiplicity for some discussion - including suggesting that different alters have different attachment styles. There is a trigger warning for when discuss therapy boundaries, and how unresolved attachment issues play a role in unethical behavior of otherwise good therapists (and bad ones) - an example of a therapist diapering her adult clients is given. We also discuss ways to remain connected with your therapist between sessions, in good and safe ways that are healthy and contribute to healing attachment. Then we apply it internally, too, and explain why improving internal communication changes things so much - and how that heals attachment, too. He then ties this full circle to Dr. Daniel P. Brown’s theory of CPTSD, and how it’s caused by disorganized attachment followed by abuse later. He also references “Ghosts in the Nursery”. We apply what we learned our struggle through the last week, weather trauma, and efforts not to re-enact trauma. Charts, pictures, links, and video clips are in the blog!
George delves deeper into The Ideal Parent Figure (IPF) protocol with a discussion about the five stages of developing secure relationships followed by a guided meditation that offers a hands-on way to explore the concept further. Captured on retreat, George Haas discusses the Ideal Parent Figure (IPF) Protocol. Through a guided meditation, this technique, developed by Daniel P. Brown, allows you to imagine the ideal parent to help repair attachment disturbances. Please note this is not a competition or correction for your actual parents, it’s an attempt to create a pristine imagined experience. If you would like to engage in the practice of dāna (generosity), you are invited to help support us by purchasing an item from our shop, where all proceeds go to the Mettagroup Scholarship Fund, or making a direct contribution.Subscribe on iTunes.
