This week, we look at a strange phenomenon happening in Canada. Well-established brands are suddenly leaving the country. Kleenex is leaving after nearly 100 years. Skippy Peanut Butter has skipped the country after nearly 90 years. And KFC actually held a funeral for their terrible-tasting French fries. What's happening up here? Find out. Hosted on Acast. In this episode, we talk to Tania Lacy. The comedy pioneer became one of the biggest stars on Australian television in the 1980s, but at the height of her fame, Lacy seemingly vanished without explanation. In this revealing interview, she opens up about the reasons for her sudden disappearance, including her controversial sacking by the ABC; her addictions to heroin and alcohol; her mental health challenges; the damaging rumours spread by her peers; and a Hollywood dream that turned into a nightmare. Reflecting on what it was like being a young woman in a male-dominated industry, Lacy talks about all this and more in a feature story in the magazine this weekend - Disappearing Act - and hosting this conversation is the journalist behind that profile piece, The Age’s senior culture writer, Michael Lallo. Listeners should be advised that this episode deals with suicide and depression. If you are seeking help, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Diana and Nicole begin the episode by chatting about what they have been working on in their research. Diana then introduces the main topic, the fascinating case of John Royston, an ancestor who ran away as a 19-year-old apprentice in Virginia in 1770. They discuss the detailed advertisement placed in The Virginia Gazette by his master, Samuel Daniel, which provides a physical description, a list of his clothes, and mentions his skills as a chair maker and blacksmith. Diana shares how she uses AI tools to generate images based on the ad's description and, more importantly, to add historical context. The hosts discuss the information Diana gathered from AI regarding the apprentice system in Colonial Virginia and the significance of John's clothing—a working-class frieze coat paired with a "new broadcloath waistcoat and breeches" of "pretty fine cloth." The AI's analysis suggests this attire points to John having a middle-class social status and that he planned his escape carefully to maintain a respectable appearance. Diana highlights how the 1770 advertisement is crucial for connecting John to his father, Richard Wyatt Royston, in the records of a "burned county." Listeners learn how to utilize a single, detailed historical record and modern AI tools to transform a seemingly "disappearing" ancestor into a well-contextualized person with a compelling story. The wellness conversation around menopause has become saturated with quick fixes and expensive products while real food has disappeared from the dialogue. Heather Carey critiques the current landscape where protein shakes, weighted vests, and GLP-1 drugs dominate instead of focusing on nourishing, whole foods.• Menopause has become big business with many "scam artists" selling unnecessary supplements and diets• Popular trends like weighted vests, high protein goals, and GLP-1 drugs are overshadowing food-focused approaches• Food must remain central to midlife health - not just as fuel, but for joy and connection• Plants, proteins from real food sources, healthy fats, and whole grains should form the foundation of midlife nutrition• Women 40-60 face increased risks for heart disease, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes - all heavily influenced by food choices• Cooking for yourself in midlife is an act of self-care and self-respect• No supplement, weighted vest, or trendy diet can replace the fundamental importance of real, nourishing foodFeed yourself like your health matters, because it does.I would love to hear from you! This one's personal. In this heartfelt solo episode, I open up about something I see so many women struggle with—especially those who've spent years giving to everyone else. It's the slow, quiet burnout that creeps in when caretaking becomes your identity… and your needs slowly fade to the background. This episode—From Burnout to Becoming: A Mother's Relaunch—isn't about fixing yourself. It's about finding yourself again. The version of you that once dreamed, created, and felt lit up by life. The one who's still there, waiting underneath the exhaustion, the guilt, and the “shoulds.”Whether you're deep in motherhood, caretaking for a loved one, or just feeling like you've forgotten what you want—this is your permission slip to begin again.Because when you choose yourself, you don't just rise—you raise everyone around you, too.Highlights:00:40 – The Disappearing Act of MotherhoodHow constantly giving to others can quietly erase the parts of us that used to feel alive and inspired.04:25 – Reclaiming Yourself Without GuiltWhy choosing joy and honoring your desires is not selfish—it's essential.08:10 – Three Ways to Begin AgainSimple but powerful shifts—like sacred scheduling and mini rituals—that help you feel more like you again.13:00 – From Just Liking Your Life to Loving ItHow small moments of presence and pleasure can reconnect you to your dreams and your worth.16:50 – The Ripple Effect of Living FullyChoosing yourself doesn't just change your life—it becomes permission for others to do the same.Hilary's 3HQ™ TakeawayThis is what 3HQ™ is all about:Reclaiming your Head (the thoughts that tell you you're not doing enough), reconnecting with your Heart (the desires you've pushed aside), and letting your Highest Self lead you forward with ease, purpose, and joy.You don't need to become someone new.You just need to come back to the woman you've always been.Connect with Hilary: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/TheReLaunchCoLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/hilarydecesare/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hilarydecesare/ Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@hilarydecesare Interested in being a guest on the ReLaunch Podcast or booking Hilary as a guest? What happens when 15,000 active listings meet only 2,000 quarterly sales? Former Urban Analytics co-owner and current Zonda Urban VP Jon Bennest sits down with Adam & Matt to reveal why half of Metro Vancouver's pre-sale inventory could up and vanish from the market in the next two years. Drawing on exclusive market data and 20 years of industry expertise, Jon explains the dramatic implications of the shift from investor-driven to end-user markets where many projects struggle to reach even 30% sold. From standing inventory opportunities to the challenges facing major developments, this insider conversation reveals exactly where the opportunities and pitfalls lie for buyers navigating today's uncertain market. What exactly defines the "Goldilocks Zone" where certain projects are still selling briskly? How many interest rate cuts will finally "bring the market back"? And what counterintuitive investment strategy does Jon favour that contradicts conventional wisdom about chasing hot neighborhoods? Don't miss this essential market intelligence from one of the industry's most respected data analysts.

Gaela and Nicole – along with special guest, Diego Duran de la Vega of Hughes Hubbard & Reed – interview Mexican Federal Judges Angelica Ortuño Suarez, Hilda Elizabeth Plascencia Carrasco, Marlene Angeles Tovar about the sweeping judicial reform that is planned for the Mexican judiciary over the next years. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the reform is subjecting all of Mexico's Federal Judges to election by popular vote. While there are many unknowns with respect to the exact implementation of the reform, one thing is certain: uncertainty. We dive into the uncertainty, what this means for the current judicial bench, the future of the Mexican courts, and whether this might signify a great shift away from Mexican courts and toward international arbitration. Comparing past elections for several decades, this sudden surge of voters in 2020, and the return to a more “normal” pattern in 2024 is a curiosity that even the mainstream media is somewhat noticing. Where did they go? Bob shares his explanation. Now, do you believe in this ministry? Lynn Casteel Harper explores the myths and metaphors surrounding dementia and aging in her debut book. Discover why this work has been chosen as a New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice. About Lynn Lynn Casteel Harper is an essayist, minister, and chaplain. Her debut book, On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear (Catapult, 2020), was named a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice and a Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle selection for 2021. On Vanishing appeared on the Gold Foundation's 2021 Reading List for Compassionate Clinicians. Lynn's essays and interviews have appeared in Kenyon Review Online, Salon, The Paris Review, North American Review, The Christian Science Monitor, NPR's Think, The Sun Magazine, and elsewhere. She is a Barbara Deming Memorial Fund grant recipient and the winner of the 2017 Orison Anthology Award in Nonfiction. A graduate of Wake Forest University Divinity School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's chaplain residency program, Lynn has served as the Minister of Older Adults at The Riverside Church in the City of New York and as a nursing home chaplain. Lynn lives and writes in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she is the pastor of Olivet Congregational Church UCC. Key Takeaways On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear explores why those of us who don't have dementia are vanishing from those who do, and why dementia brings up so much fear and dread. The larger culture and educational system assume people living with dementia are not only diminished in capacity, but in their essential selves. Their humanity fades away. We internalize the idea that to be loved, we need to approach perfection. Releasing that allows for more fun and creativity.
